The New Water Cooler

oh no! I’m so sorry you took such a bad fall. Ribs are no joke. Maybe a trip to urgent care to make sure? Take it easy for sure.
Great pictures Ang. Great memories.
My brother in law and nephew just got back from their every other year fishing trip to Canada. So I guess we will be getting together on the weekend to eat some fish.
Can’t believe the weekend slipped by. Had eye appointments Friday afternoon. Caleb came back for his and left immediately after. I was sad. I thought since he didn’t visit for Mother’s Day or my birthday, I thought he might stay for dinner after the appointment. Nope. I just wanted dinner with both boys and to go do an escape room. Whatever, May and June are over.
Dentist was today and I really don’t like the new front desk people. They have been submitting our claims to the wrong place (mine to Bernie’s and his to mine) and we have both called several times. I tried talking to them again today and the one was just really snotty

A couple photos of Ripley's Aquarium
It's Canada Day so I am off today. It was nice to sleep in. I did get a run in today. I used to scaring people that I come up behind (apparently they don't hear my pounding feet and heavy breathing). Today I managed to scare someone I was coming towards - as in we were facing each other. Only she was walking with her head down. I startled as I was past her.
I made some banana chocolate chip muffins. I ate one for my lunch. I need to save room in my calories for BBQ hotdogs and then smores at my brothers later. It will be late as we have to wait for my oldest nephew to get off work. I am looking forward to seeing all 3 of my nephews. Since they started going to a different church I don't see them as much anymore. They are now 13, 15 and 18 and all of them are taller then me.
I am trying to work on using my time for wisely and not spending so much time on my phone (despite deleting Facebook off of it) and my computer. It's hard to break an addiction. (I say this as I am typing on my computer.)

Great photos of ocean life, Angela. Thanks for sharing. Good job getting your run in on your day off. Happy Canada Day!
Marla, customer service isn't what it use to be. I always think people who treat customers poorly don't like their jobs or have become entitled to the job. Their boss probably has no idea and wouldn't be happy.
Is Z liking his job?
My ribs are slowly becoming less painful. I did not go to the ER because I know they do nothing for broken ribs. I'm breathing fine and don't hear any gurgling or feel loss of air when I breathe. I'm getting around better today and can sit and stand without the shooting pain. I went to the grocery with Russ yesterday to buy my items for my July 4th Charcuterie. We will be at my cousin's beach house on the 5th. I won't swim in Lake Michigan because I don't think the movement of the waves or water will feel good on my rib cage. Water is still very cold too.
Today I harvested radishes, 5 strawberries and lettuce from my garden. It's amazing how fast radishes grow from seed!! I plan to roast some with olive oil, salt and pepper. I saw this on a cooking show and it looked tasty.
Angela do you just get today off work? Marla what days do you get off with the 4th being Friday and bordering the weekend?

glad you are feeling better J!
S’mores? Yum
Zach is still enjoying his job. He has a great team and he is challenged and embracing it.
I will have Friday off for a holiday. Very excited for a short week.
Hair tomorrow

I did get Canada Day off as it's stat holiday. Not everyone does. My oldest nephew works at A&W and he had to work (though he got time and a half). Amazon still did deliveries. Next year Canada Day is in the middle of the week which means a day off in the middle of the week, which will be a little better.
When I went to my brothers my 15 year old nephew did the BBQ. So of course I had to have a hotdog, hamburger and smores.

I'm glad you each have a holiday. Beautiful weather here the last two days. I sat on the front porch this morning with my coffee. A lot of bird species at the feeders, rabbits, squirrels enjoying the morning. Then the cherry sprayer arrived to spray the orchard near our home, so I went inside. Now I'm heading out to check the garden and water flowers.
I love food served on holidays and never deprive myself of the celebration. Life is meant to live with joy.
Have a great day!

Last night I got home (later then normal) to discover my dehumidifier didn't stop when it was supposed to and there was water all over my kitchen floor. I unplugged it for the rest of the night. I didn't plug it back in this morning as the thermometer on my fridge was ready a very high humidity level.
I was up late last night (for the 3rd night in a row) watching my Blue Jays sweep the Yankees to take the division lead for the first time since Sept. 2016!!!!!!!!!!!

Any damage to your floor or baseboards, Angela? Not fun to come home to a mess.
Today has been lazy. I checked the garden, watered flowers, took a walk with Russ, and have been reading on the front porch in the shade. Pretty sunny and warm today with no breeze.
We are each having a refreshing gin and tonic and will have Chicago Style Hot Dogs and potato salad for dinner. Tomorrow is a family picnic at the beach.
I'm sure we will hear lots of fireworks and fire crackers from our neighbors tonight.

I loved having Friday off. Getting to do my normal Saturday shopping on Friday is so nice. I then spent some time trying a couple of different recipes. One just a basic three bean salad, but with a different dressing that used monkfruit instead of sugar or honey. I will take that to lunch today at my sisters (and the folks). I also made a pasta salad with that little acini de pepe (the frog eye pasta) and some yellow peppers (not as hard on my stomach for some reason), some little tomatoes, a bit of avocado and a dressing that I made up of mayo, sour cream, some salsa, red wine vinegar, lime juice, salt, pepper, chopped mild pickled jalepenos, and some of that juice from the jar. It's good. I 'discovered' a version of that dressing from a potato salad recipe from my Taste of Home magazine a while back, and I l really liked the dressing. It's good enough I dipped some chips in it and decided so try it on some pasta. I made some brownies because I always make brownies for my niece, but Zach and Bernie got into them because they "didn't realize they were for tomorrow." ???? Sigh.
I am glad fireworks are legally over. I had being 'boomed' out of sleep. I have a super high startle response and then my heart races for what seems like ages and I can't get back to sleep.
My sister texted yesterday to find out if Bernie has some sort of sandal slides that I can bring over today. (He has pretty big feet), because I guess my dad is really swollen and can't get his shoes on well right now. I'm like Bernie has some crocs? I guess I'll bring those. So many questions though. Why don't they go to Walmart or the Dollar Store and just get a cheap pair? If dad likes these, he's going to expect to just keep them (he will especially like them because they are Bernie's and Bernie is his favorite). So maybe I'll just go get some. But geez. Is he letting his diabetes get out of control? Sigh. Their health is so bad. Now I am not looking forward to this lunch day. I just emotionally don't have the bandwith to add any new trauma. Oh well. I know I still have it better than many. Suck it up Marla

Marla, how did lunch go with your parents and sister's family? Your recipes sound good. Did everyone like them?
Very hot here yesterday and today. We went to my cousin's beach house on Lake Michigan and just got home. She doesn't grill at this place so she heated up Stauffer's Lasagna. Heavy meal for such a hot day. My other cousin brought a salad, someone brought garlic bread, cookies and wine. We took a charcuterie tray of meats, cheeses, crackers, olives, cherry tomatoes, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and blue berries. Luckily we had a nice wind on the deck so it countered some of the heat. I didn't swim due to my ribs. It was wavy today with the high wind too. I did not want to get thrown around in the water. I just showered and feel so much better after sweating so much.
It feels so good to be in AC!!

No damage to my floors as far as I can tell, but it started doing it again on Saturday. It's unplugged now and I am looking at getting a new one now Sigh I just don't know how to fix the issue that's causing it to do that. Not an expense I wanted to do. At least they are on sale right now. I have a room thermometer on my fridge that also gives the humidity level, and it's readying at 64% right now. I need to go get new one tonight.
I stayed off her all weekend. I am back into my addiction of social media, YouTube, Facebook, my phone and my computer. When I get on those NOTHING gets done that I need to do. I loose all motivation to make healthy meals, to run, to practice my piano/voice or anything else productive that needs to be done.

Angela, maybe you need a bigger dehumidifier to hold the water/moisture it pulls in from your apartment. Didn't you say you have a ground floor or garden apartment? We run a dehumidifier in our basement bunk room (egress window and only half underground on the back side). We collect a lot of moisture in that one room which is probably 40 x 16 feet. When running, we empty one to two times per day during humid months.
Marla, how did lunch go with the family?
It rained non stop yesterday. Light rain coming straight down. My lettuce in the bowl has grown like crazy. I need to harvest today and deliver some to my sisters.
My ribs still hurt although the pain is not as sharp. I know I'm healing but I am impatient to be feeling normal again. I want to ride my bike but don't want to risk it in case I fall or have difficulty getting on or off. Too early…
I stopped the intermittent fasting and have turned to eating a smoothie, yogurt and fruit or eggs and English muffin for breakfast. If hungry, I will eat half a sandwich and veggies/fruit for lunch, a light snack in the afternoon, and then we eat light for dinner. I don't believe my body responds to intermittent fasting no matter the schedule. I've tried it on three different occasions and none have worked. This time I read a book about it and then put it into action. Due to my Y schedule and other events, I wouldn't be consistent with the 16/8 schedule. I have lost 8 pounds since the end of April so I am encouraged. I am also on 2 miligrams of Ozempic a week for my Type 2 diabetes so that does depress my appetite. I am a slow loser but since I'm not on a paid diet plan and following something strictly, I feel I'm doing ok for now. My goal is 34 more pounds in the next 2 years. A journey and a process…
I had only told my sister Lynn about my fall and ribs. Becky and cousins didn't know and I chose not to share but did not make that clear to Lynn. At the gathering, she asked me how my ribs were feeling and all heads turned to me. I briefly answered but Becky (who broke many ribs last summer from a fall when cleaning her pool), inserted her usual "make it about her" comment. She said, "well now you now how much it hurts" and proceeded to say to others that I told her to "get over her pain and deal with it" when she broke her ribs. I never said that and never would! I have dealt with chronic pain since age 36 due to early onset of osteo arthritis. I would never tell someone in pain to "deal with it". She is impulsive and lives in her own reality. She truly believes what comes out of her mouth so if I challenge her about it, she won't back down. I told Lynn not to tell others what I share with her. That is up to me to do so. She said she was sorry and didn't think about it. Lynn just wanted to know how I was doing. Family!!!!
Have a good Monday. So sad about the floods and deaths in Texas. My heart breaks for all those people and the campers.

The issue is the little sensor that detects when the bucket is full one one side and doesn't hang properly, and as a result, doesn't detect when it's full

We just booked a two week trip to St. Augustine to spend time with the grandkids. We were able to get an apartment in the same building we stayed in last February. It was only two blocks from Jeff and family and the kids rode their bikes over every day after nap for a snack. We got a lot of walking in going back and forth and we will be within walking distance to the historic downtown again.
It sounds like you will be buying a new dehumidifier, Angela.
How are you Marla?

I’m not sure how I lost so many days between my last post. I need to do a better update when I am on a full keyboard, sine I am a slow thumb typer
Hope everyone had a good weekend
Lunch was ok. My dad looks and sounds terrible, still not over his pneumonia (been to the doctor a lot) I asked if they have tested him to make sure they have the right antibiotics. I got a lot of blank looks. When Bernie had his MRSA thing they had to test the infection and get the right drug combination. I believe the insane swelling is in part due to him drinking a container of tomato juice every day. I told both him and mom that has so much sodium. That is a bad idea when he is so swollen. He usually prefers tea and that is much better idea. I need to ask Michele when we are going to confront them about the dangers of them driving. If dad wants all his healthcare in Omaha then he needs to find an assisted living healthcare home there. Or they need to get in home care.
Is your next trip for next year? Or something sooner?

I am working on my motivation to get things done I know I need to do when I get home from work. It's hard as I am not doing much at work and lack motivation here and it carry's home with me.

Marla, have they done a lung x-ray? Russ' mother was diagnosed with pneumonia and given an inhaler and antibiotics. She got worse and they hadn't done an x-ray. Eventually she had one and it was lung cancer. She died one month after diagnosis. I don't say this to scare you, but your parents may need you or Michele to be their health advocate and push for tests, antibiotics, etc. The generation of our parents don't tell a doctor things unless asked and don't question a doctor's treatments or procedures.
Angela, maybe pick one small task at a time? Clean up clutter, clean one closet, clean one cabinet every couple of days? Not so overwhelming and small, forward progress may bring back your motivation.
I finally put the primer coat on my patio table. I ended up rolling it on because my arm and ribs were sore using a brush. Tomorrow I will put on the first coat of paint. This is a wood, long rectangular table we bought a few years ago. It did not stand up to the elements of rain and sun like the company claimed it would. I am painting it a light green from some of the paint samples I have left over from choosing a house color. Then I will stencil wild flowers on the top. Final coat will be heavy duty marine varnish.
We had personal pizzas cooked in our Uni pizza oven tonight. Russ experimented with a new pizza dough recipe and it was good. Tomorrow night we are going to a concert at an outdoor, covered venue we have been to several times. We will be listening to Iron & Wine, and I'm With Her. I've never heard them but we will see what we like.

Cleaning isn't my issue. It's going for a run, doing my piano/voice practice, or working on the wedding gift. I get on my computer and well…………………. And no I can't get rid of my computer. When I was constantly stressed at work I would get home and not want to do anything. Now I am bored at work and have the same issue when I get home!
Last night I ended up going to my brother's church for the mid-week service. My oldest nephew was preaching last night. He's getting better at his preaching.

Angela, maybe give yourself time to rest and rejuvenate? Shake up your activities…go for a walk, shop, call a friend to go out for coffee or dessert?
Russ went to print out the concert tickets and realized he never purchased them. However, he did purchase tickets for Carol King The Musical and Alison Krause & Union Station. We both thought we were attending tonight's concert but not so. I'm fine with it. I just put the first coat of paint on my patio table and my ribs are sore. Relax the rest of the day…

Well they do say you need a vacation after your vacation. 😂 I came back to work the next day.

Vacations can be exhausting rather than rejuvenating. All the packing, unpacking, laundry, activities, late nights… Fun but we always need recovery time.
I got my CPAP machine yesterday and used it last night. Quite the amazing little machine. I'm still sleeping in the recliner so I didn't experience what it is like to sleep on my side with head gear on. The mask is minimal and very light weight. The airflow when I breathe is very manageable. I woke up feeling more rested than I have in a long time. I think I got more hours of deeper sleep. I had to adjust the mask a few times because I wasn't sure it was in the right position, but otherwise I did okay. Very quiet machine. Time will tell…
Poured rain overnight and is raining today. I sure hope it doesn't damage the cherry crop. Farmers are beginning to shake the trees of sweet cherries and tarts will be next. Heavy rain can cause them to split.
I will continue painting my table tomorrow. Too dark and wet today.

I stay motivated last night when I get home from work and got things done! Maybe it was the tacos I had for supper.
I was watching a video where she reviewed products. For the waffle maker they came out to thin and she said you could make breakfast tacos with them. I couldn't stop thinking of tacos. So I took the PJ pants off and jeans back on and went out and got all I needed for tacos for supper. 😋
I ran this morning! The humidity was 95% when I started but the temperatures were perfect for running. Now I am just waiting for the next bus (the bus I need only runs every hour) to go out to do an Amazon return and pick up a couple things I need. Then it's back home to stay motivated and get things done at home
One thing I think will help - I deleted Messenger off my phone. I had deleted Facebook off over a month ago, but discovered you could get on Facebook via the Messenger app, so I was still getting on and doing my doomsday scrolling. I am trying to be on screen time less and less. Especially when I am out and about in public.

I too find I lose motivation when I get home. Honestly, if I sit down I am done.
Honestly, lung cancer would make sense. I would hope they have done x-rays considering how long this has been going on, but I'll see if they feel like sharing. It's weird with them (well, actually all of us) sometimes they don't share all relevant info.
I decided to take yesterday off so Bernie and I could do a Costco run. It was so nice not being at work. It was probably a mistake to be gone as the powers that be started laying off more in the office on Thursday, so I'm sure that didn't look good for me. We'll see what happened. Obviously, non of the "C-suites" or high level directors or sr directors (which is what could save more people), but whatever.

Second coat of paint done. Starting stenciling of wild flower motif this morning. I need to look up how to stencil. I have the materials but want to make sure I do it somewhat right. Beautiful sunny day here. My car is in the shop to hopefully we can pick up this afternoon.
Angela, way to go getting motivated again. You sound energized!
Marla, I'm glad you took some time off. You get PTO don't you? Don't feel guilty using it. It's a benefit you have a right to and have earned. Mental health is very important!
I hope you get answers from your parents and that your Dad gets the right treatment for whatever is going on. Is he a farmer that has been working with pesticides his whole life? A smoker?
0 -
my dad grew up on a farm and farmed even when he left to start his teaching career. So, yes, lots of chemical exposures throughout the years. And as a young person he also smoked. I think he was only a social smoker because he quit it easily years ago, but my mom still smokes (so gross).
Another week started. Sigh
0 -
I hope your Dad feels better soon, Marla. I hope it isn't a serious condition. My sisters both smoke and have since they were young teenagers. Drives me crazy. In this day and age, how does one not want to quit? I'm sure I was exposed to so much second hand smoke as a kid (both parents and 3 of 5 siblings smoked) that I'm at risk for something.
Well we had a whomping bill on the Subaru Outback. New bearings on back wheels for $1200!
89 degrees here today. We are having a hotter than normal summer in our region.

4 nights using my CPAP. I have slept in my bed for two nights now and the pain in my ribs is minimal when I move around. Just a twinge when I get out of bed. I'm not sleeping on my right side (injury side) yet. I am getting good feedback on my CPAP use from data but getting use to wearing a contraption on my head is the challenge. The airflow into my nose is not a factor for me but just having the light weight mask on my head will take getting use to. I got the one that is padded with fabric around my face so silicone does not touch my cheeks. The mask part is a nose pillow that rests under my nose but doesn't cover it. No tubes (cannulas) go into my nose, just air. It seems to be the least invasive mask available so I hope I get use to it.
Our cherry/apple farmer friends, Kathy and Steve, have had a bad first day of cherry harvest. We have had so much rain and some really heavy, fast falling rain in the last week and month. This can cause brown rot on the cherry trees and ruin the crop. That is what is happening to many farmers in the area. Kathy says the spray that is now approved to use to prevent brown rot does not do the job. Whatever was allowed previously and was effective, is no longer approved. They had one of their cherry shakers break down on the first day of shaking yesterday. They had to call a company to come fix it and use the other shaker, only. By the end of the day, 20 boxes of cherries had to be dumped as they found brown rot. Farming and weather, very stressful and expensive for the family farms. Kathy's Mom, in her 90's, and still sharp, has always helped them in the house during harvest making meals, cleaning, laundry, dog care, etc. Well a week ago, just before harvest was set to begin, she fell and broke a vertebrae in her neck. Now she is in a nursing home for rehab and may not be coming home at all. We are going to take a couple of meals over on Friday for the family. They work long days and are very tired so they don't want hot, heavy meals, no heating up, etc.
We may get severe storms tonight, again. Summer weather this year is hot, wet, and changing daily.
Stay cool or warm, whatever your situation. Happy Tuesday!

It's been so dry here this summer that I wonder how the farmers are doing with the crops around here. I keep saying we need a good rain
Yesterday I think I slept wrong, or sneezed wrong, as my lower back was in pain all day. It's better today, it mostly feels stiff. I guess that is all part of getting older. 🤪
After a productive weekend…………….. I have not got anything done I needed to do the last two days when I got home from work. I get on Facebook and………..

I have been eating way too much sugar/carbs and am feeling it. I need to get some control of my cravings this week. I always sabotage myself.
I volunteered today at Power Book Bags. The volunteer coordinator is sick, her husband has lost his job, and they may have to move back where they came from. Power Books needs to reduce their operating hours while she rests and works fewer days.
Tomorrow we will take a couple of meals to our farmer friends. They are having a rough week with the harvest, family, etc.

I hear you on that to much sugar!!! (says the person who went grocery shopping hungry last night and bought a cake and store made cookies last night)
The lawyer I work for has been away this week due a death in his family. I attacked his office and cleaned it. Some files were touched in so long they were dusty. After going through everything I cleaned the now empty desk top/cabinet top and my wipes came back black. 🤢 I am sure he will be surprised when he gets back on Monday! I have a few things to go over with him and will assure him that most other files are now in the cabinet behind me (where they should have been all along)
