Just a query - is it possible to count Spinning classes towards calories burnt? You are riding a bike indoors, and then some...and I reckon I burnt a serious amount of calories in the 45 mins class I tried out last night.
I know if you do allow it as an indoor riding activity then I need to find a way to get it into Strava, which with gym bikes would be tricky - but it is only calories we need to count not miles, so if I can take a photo of my HRM watch after the class with the time and calories burnt - would that suffice as proof?
Or is there an HRM belt anybody knows of which would connect with Strava on my Android phone to count it that way?
If t'is allowed of course....0 -

Awesome! Nicely done, Clive! That's some wicked speed for that amount of climbing.

Yes Fran you can, create a manual entry in Strava and attach proof of cals burnt like a snapshot of your HRM readout.0 -
Cool, so now I've just to get my Polar FT4 HRM watch working....will do that before the next class - cheers0

Pretty much any bluetooth smart HRM belt (or the optical sensors for on your arm/wrist) will work with Android phones...

I think that even the pikey supermarket had one in a while ago...

Cheers, Mark, knew you'd know. I'll have to look into those if I can't get the Polar one working with my watch again - I've not used it for a while. Might be time for an upgrade anyway, would be easier to be a watch but maybe one with more connectivity than I have currently as it doesn't upload anywhere - it was the first one I got a good few years ago and I just wanted to count the calories of indoor workouts.0 -
I might not be doing very well with getting any spinning in but I killed it last night at Crossfit. I got first (by a lot) out of 47 people!

I think the cat league system has shaped up nicely and I think is making this Winter challenge, you can already see rivalries and scrapping for places across the 4 tiers, hopefully it gives something for everyone to fight for no matter what level your ability or fitness level is.
What I'm not happy with though is the original idea of the end of month bonus points awards which was specified as:
Position 1: 10 points
Position 2: 8 points
Position 3: 6 points
Position 4: 4 points
Position 5: 2 points
Position 6: 0 points
Position 7: 0 points
Given this some thought and you could gain promotion and then make a lot less bonus points then if you'd stayed in the same division soooooo I'm going for a trickle down points system:
Cat 1:
Position 1: 11 points
Position 2: 9.5 points
Position 3: 9 points
Position 4: 8.5 points
Position 5: 8 points
Position 6: 7.5 points - Relegation
Position 7: 7 points - Relegation
Cat 2:
Position 1: 8 points - Promotion
Position 2: 6.5 points - Promotion
Position 3: 6 points
Position 4: 5.5 points
Position 5: 5.2 points
Position 6: 5.1 points - Relegation
Position 7: 5 points - Relegation
Cat 3:
Position 1: 5.2 points - Promotion
Position 2: 4.5 points - Promotion
Position 3: 4 points
Position 4: 3.5 points
Position 5: 3.2 points
Position 6: 3.1 points - Relegation
Position 7: 3 points - Relegation
Cat 4:
Position 1: 3.2 points - Promotion
Position 2: 2.5 points - Promotion
Position 3: 2 points
Position 4: 1.5 points
Position 5: 1.2 points
Position 6: 1.1 points
Position 7: 1 points
This way if you gain promotion it makes that promotion more worthwhile and successive promotions even more so.
To clarify these are bonus points awarded at the end of each month.
In detail:
First set of these will be awarded on the 1st Jan for December.
Second set of these will be awarded on the 1st Feb for Jan.
Third set of these will be awarded on the 1st March for Feb.
BTW I'm kind of hoping I can persuade Mark aka TheBigYin to be the MC come close of Winter Challenge business as I'm a bit pants at that part.0 -
gawd, you do like thins complicated, don't you Jas...
You know that you've just talked yourself into running this next year, because even if I'm back "on all cylinders" there's no way I can hope to either follow or even understand the arcane bonus structures you've got in place... I'm sticking with "just keep riding and reporting" for the moment, and letting you take care of any of the bonus points, because, frankly, i'm likely to get a nosebleed if I try and work them out.
I trust you, you'll get it right and make it work, crack on fella...
(oh - as to being the MC and doing the "end of season report" bit, I'm happy to do something - but you might have to PM me an "idiots guide" to the bonus points" at the end of the challenge - don't do it now for christ sake,it'll only confuse me more, at the end will be fine...)

Lol don't worry about the bonus points thing and I'll ensure the summary totals include these, I have it covered, it's just one thing that was niggling away at me.
ok Clive the end of season MC thing is yours, feel free to collaborate with Mark on it, I'm sure you'll do a bang up job.

Reminder that we have a thanksgiving picture bonus on Thursday, November 26, alternatively if you don't want to take a picture I'll hand out a special bonus point to those that do a ride in the shape of a turkey .....
0 -
Would a picture of a bottle of Wild Turkey count?0
-
I was picturing more of a cooked Thanksgiving turkey lmao!0
-
Pictures of cooked turkeys on dinner tables are band for two reasons .... they make me hungry and your not on your bike!0
-
Since it's a picture of something we're thankful for, vs something we find out on a ride, will pics attached to trainer rides count?0
-
No, I meant cycling a route in the shape of a cooked turkey.
But I have no intention of using either for my point claim.

here's a picture of A fat useless Turkey

How's this for a Turkey Ride? Quite realistic to do too, and local to me! Although my art skills are ready to be shamed...

Sad thing is that person was actually me. I did it for the lulz. Also to see if it was possible!0 -
I rode today, used the Strava app to record, at my rest stop I took some photos, at the end of the ride and 'before saving' I attached 2 photos and saved the now completed workout, yet the photos do not show in the map overlay. I didn't see it mentioned anywhere so the map overlay isn't a requirement for points, is it?0

You need an Instagram account linked to your Strava. Take photo's in Instagram out on your ride & upload them before you upload your ride & the images will be GPS located on your map0 -

It is a requirement, see page 1 of the logging thread:
'It's important to not that all future related bonus pics must have GPS encoded in them so they can be shown in the route, see my example:
https://www.strava.com/activities/437243989'
I do sympathise with you but It does look like your missing something in the setup when it comes to adding pics on your Strava, perhaps you have location settings turned off on your phone or when using something like the Android instagram app I believe you have to tick a box that says use the photo map:

I've added them direct using the iPhone Strava app and it's added them on the map ok, I think this is more likely a 'turned off' location setting on the phone or camera device.0
