Stayed up late tonight and read most of all the posts on this thread. It was interesting to look back and see what was written by myself and others and what I was thinking and the things that were tried. It has been an interesting journey so far! I think I need to get back to strict "fast tell five" woe and drop another 10-lbs. That worked well for me a couple of months ago.

I've done that before, it gives some perspective. I think we all have switched gears numerous times. Sometimes things work out, other times they dont.

Here is my year end summary:

    ldhl2d7j8wro.png

Was about 213 this time last year and am 198 this morning so lost 15-lbs total. Not a big loss but I didn't gain and maintained well so I'm real happy with that! I'm within a couple lbs of my lowest after starting 27+ months ago so I am really happy with that. I stayed the same this week despite eating big the day before Christmas. Again one day won't make or break us.

I hope to start a new push to drop 10. It isn't easy for me. Doing a 16:8 and maintaining is easy for me but going out to 20-21 hrs of fasting isn't (probably because of the running I'm doing). I know I can do it though if I just decide and commit to it. I at least can do it for a period of time anyways. Seems something derails me eventually but if I maintain during those times, that is ok. I will pick it up back later and get lower! My plan of attack will be fast tell five and with some ACV before dinner and also hopefully some running. I eventually need to get back into lifting some weights. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and have a Happy New Year!

Fasted tell 6:00 pm today! Starting a new streak hopefully.

Ran at the end of the fast with a little coconut oil and regular cornstarch:

    1-mile warmup (on indoor track)
    1/4-mile walk
5x40-m strides w/40-m walk between efforts
    1/4-mile walk
    1x3/4-mile @ 7:30-min/mile pace (on treadmill)
    1/4-mile walk
4x1/4-mile @ 7:00-min/mile pace, 1/8-mile walk between efforts (on treadmill)
    1/4-mile walk
1.2-mile cool down (on indoor track)

4-miles total running and about 1&1/2-miles of walking. Watch said about 800kcal. This is my planned workout for Fridays. I plan on keeping the same distances but increasing the pace for the intervals as time goes on.

Now enjoying some pizza and stuff! Did take 2-tbs of acv in some grape juice before eating.

15 lbs for the year is awesome! Good luck on starting your streak :)
Your walk looks great. I find I stick to working out better when I do it in the morning, but I am afraid to have my meal in the morning and I feel odd not having some protein post-workout. Not sure what to do!

I don't work out in the morning because it is just about impossible for me to fast the rest of the day. You could change to after the fast and see if you stick with it. That brings other "bonking" challenges but you can get around that.

When summer comes here, I will probably run in the mornings so I don't have heat stroke, but I probably won't fast those days. I will probably eat light then or at least eat some protein. I hope I will be at maintenance then and it won't be a problem. You could try that also and just fast part time.

For trying to still lose weight, I would go after work unless you are running outdoors and it is hot then.

You can experiment and see if you can do it in the mornings but I think that is a hard thing to do and then fast the rest of the day.

2 TBSP of ACV would burn my throat...even diluted! I have to have it in very small doses. I used to take a shot each morning from a master mix: 4 cups water, 2 TBSP local honey (for allergies) 2 TBPS turmeric, 1 tsp cayenne, 1/4 cup ACV with mother and 1 tsp cream of tarter. I took it on an empty stomach and then drank water. I stopped when I started OMAD because it would break my fast. I need to start again and have it before my meal each evening.

Thanks for the info, Bob! Since I am still on break, I am going to work out right before my meal and will just adjust when school starts back up.

    thanks @ katjustkat

Well two-days in a row for fast tell 5:00 pm. My boy and his wife were visiting and we watched a movie and after it was over I was able to sneak in a run just before midnight. Now I'm cooling down and going to get ready for bed. 4.0-miles moderate pace. I really wanted to get that run in!

Hey Bob, speaking of runs I have vowed to do a New Year’s Day early run, just to kick off the new year. It's supposed to be minus 8 in the morning.

That's cold! Just cover up all exposed skin. I've not run in that cold of weather but I've skied that cold and you can really feel it on exposed skin while going fast. Sounds like fun!

I have no idea how you guys can stand the cold weather.

Minus 8 F?!!! Geez, that's -22 Celcius. New York was freezing at a windchill factor of minus 4 F and we just had to stay indoors most of the time. Well done, Jim!

@blambo61, good luck with the new (or back to original) plan. Sounds like you've gotten off on a good start. Congrats on a very successful 2017 and may your 2018 be as equally successful!

The outdoor run was called off due to extreme cold of minus 10 deg.

Cold weather is exhilarating! As long as you dress properly, it isn't a problem (to a limit).

Just ran a hard 6-mile fartlek run. Warmed up about 1.25-miles and then put in 10 x 1/10-mile hard segments with recovery jogs in between them. Have 13-minutes to go before I break my fast for the day. Have a 4-day streak of fast-tell-five going. Did eat 1-tsp of coconut oil before the run so I wouldn't bonk. Technically that is breaking my fast but I'm not counting it as such. 12-minutes tell I break my fast! :)

HaHa you're not counting the minutes are ya? Does your wife do the cooking? For forever we have eaten exactly at 5. Kids and hubby just appear exactly at 5. it would be hard to have one of those schedules that changes everyday. Great job getting back on OMAD and you're so consistent on your running. Great head start to the new year :)

I was counting! I made the mistake of watching some UK greatest baking contest thing and I was really hungry so I went running but still had to wait about 1.5 hours after that. My wife does do most of the cooking but when it is 5, I eat weather dinner is ready or not!

Nice run!!! I really wish I could get into running. It’s such a low maintenance workout! I can’t do the impact, though. Last time I tried to become a runner, I left with plantar fasciitis and metatarsalgia. :s Still recovering to this day.

I have had both of those and actually still have some metatarsalgia. If you want to still try, get some altra wide-toe box shoes. They help a lot. For the plantar fascitis, you can tape your arches to provide support. Even if you don't want to do that, swimming or biking or rowing are also good cardio workouts. HIIT does things to us cellular-wise but I don't believe the effect is the same as cardio. I think they are both important.

I will look into those shoes!
I actually planned to get back into swimming and rowing -- I competed in both in middle and high school and was pretty good. I do want to get a bike at some point just to stop using my car. I can't use the stationary bikes at the gym because my legs are too short even at the lowest setting! :D

I shouldn't laugh at your short legs, but that's fairly amusing! How tall are you? You must have a hard time finding pants that don't need hemming, that would be frustrating...
