I could try the wall plank position! Maybe not so hard on the neck! Would this be used to work yourself up to actual horizontal planking?

I would think you could do that to build up or just keep with the wall ones. I saw them done on the knees too with arms on an exercise ball.

2:00 minutes done. It really is getting easier. I can almost get to one minute without wanting to collapse, the second minute is still pretty rough

Day 1: 30 seconds. Fully extended arms. I can't lean on my left elbow since I had surgery. I'm actually rather shocked it held me up at all.

@AshleyC1023 nice job! Be careful not to do too much with your elbow if it starts hurting. Maybe take rest days in between. I don't want you to get hurt

I did 1:15 of the standing plank. I stopped when I began to feel burning in my lateral rib area. Have felt it a bit this evening, but not terrible. Will watch how I feel tomorrow before doing it again. I do feel like I accomplished something! Baby steps are how we begin, right!?! Thanks for the encouragement in this thread!

@Karlottap Yep baby steps :) don't do you much I don't want you hurting either. I'm just glad so far I can do this and haven't had any problems with my neck other than a little soreness

There's more of that encouragement that I need to persevere if I'm ever going to be able to improve my strength!! Thank you!! I know I have to move forward here! I was carrying garbage bags full of clothes to my car yesterday, and could feel a difference in my muscles and the strength I have from doing nothing. This can only improve with gently pushing myself!

You're so right, and we are all in it together. It may be all in my head but I feel like I'm getting stronger already.

It's been over 2 years since the surgery, it's mostly muscle atrophy at this point. I had an ulnar nerve transposition - so basically my nerve was pinched (so bad I lost use of my left hand, and most unfortunately for that is that I am left handed) so they removed the "funny bone" nerve from it's place between the bones in the elbow and buried it in the muscle of my forearm. I had some issues during surgery since I had scar tissue from a previous injury (fell through a window and sliced from the top of my arm through the bottom of my elbow on glass) and they removed some bone. I had an amazing doctor that did it and the scar is very muted. No stitches on a 6" incision.

I've been doing push ups and planking before - it seems the push ups irritate it a bit more with the constant motion. My lower abdomen complained about it, but not arms. I do appreciate the concern though, I have a tendency to "go big or go home".

I've kinda stalled out at 1:50. My abs hurt! I'm hanging in there doing shorter planks every other day. I did a minute today.

Day 2 - 40 seconds. Nothing hurt this morning from doing 30 seconds for day one. I hit muscle failure a bit earlier today (shaking started at the 25 second mark)

I felt little bit sore today, but not bad. I did another verticals plank for 1:30! Arms felt more fatigue at the stopping point than yesterday, but no burning in my ribs today! I'm encouraged to continue!!

@AshleyC1023 that's good I'm glad no pain. I think your probably right, I have shoulder problems and I tried a push up challenge that would cause it to hurt, holding this pose do far doesn't seem to aggravate it. I noticed the early fatigue too after the first day or two. Now I can feel it getting better and better.

@lithezebra I know what you mean I'm not sure I can push past 2 minutes at this point, we'll see. The shorter planks will help you to build up to it though great idea

I started to notice yesterday that a great deal of it is mental for me, I'm going to experiment with distracting myself with music today and see what happens

@Karlottap Yay! I'm glad your not hurting :)

Finished my experiment. Listened with ear buds to one of my favorite songs with my eyes closed, made it to almost the end of the song before my abs couldn't go any longer. Ended with 2:32 seconds, so while it's not a ton more than yesterday and my goal of 2:10 today, I was limiting myself by the time limit and not by my body saying it was enough. I also found I don't start shaking till 1 minute, when I started last week I could barely make 1 minute. I'm super excited to see where I can go from here. I hope I can start doing other exercise after I build up strength. Love you all for going through this together!

That's awesome!! Strength to move on with some lifting...is my hopes too! So far, so good! Soreness isn't any worse! Baby steps continue, or baby seconds, lol! Hugs!

Lol baby seconds it is! I'll be so happy if I can just do some light weights without getting a spasm.

I'm up to 45 seconds, but I've had to modify the last 2 days due to an injury. I'll keep going with elevating my upper body and increasing the time. We'll see how it translates when I'm ready to be back on the floor.

I'm sorry your dealing with an injury, but wtg keeping at it, that's not easy to do when your hurting

Awesome :) I feel like this is my favorite challenge so far because you can see a difference each day. It's funny to see how exciting 5 or 10 seconds more can be. Keep us updated on your progress

Day 3 - 55 seconds. Hit 50 and figured "well, while I'm here". Counting the fish in my huge aquarium was nice distraction from my lower abs complaining! Still no arm pain and super happy with that one.

That's awesome. I find that being distracted helped me do more too, interesting how the mind works

2:40 done, I don't know how I did it. Something I noticed today, my abs hurt right away like 30 seconds in but I didn't start shaking till two minutes and even then I could control it. My core is getting stronger! I can actually feel it, it's fricking awesome.

    Wonderful! You are ROCKIN it!!

I waited until last night, and was able to do 2:05 (vertical)with music distracting me. I felt a burn begin in my lower abs right before stopping. I haven't felt that in a very long time! I'm barely sore! I'm loving this!

That's awesome @karlottap the music really helps :) I might skip today or do some 1 minute planks with short breaks in between to see if I can get a total of three minutes. the 2:40 was really burning yesterday

Made it to 2:27 this evening! Began to feel burning in my triceps. Weird how it hasn't hurt in the same place yet!

That is weird. Nice job though. I love that burning feeling, makes me feel like I'm doing something good. No planks for me tonight, though I did try the modified one you're doing for a few seconds to see how it felt. My low back hip area is acting up so I figured I'd give it a rest. I'm think this is because I started wearing heels at work again, just short ones, felt great Monday but now I'm really starting to notice the ache. :( back to my flats for a while

I'm moving back toward planking on the floor. I had done a few vertical days to let my injury heal, but today I went to just having my upper body elevated. I played some good music and set a stopwatch that would keep running rather than a timer that would tell me when to stop. I made it 1:30! Feeling great about this!
