I clocked up 27 yesterday so quite pleased but agree with you Cassandra - day 1 is easy! My shock of the day for today has been vegetables - most of our meals (which we homecook) are pretty good for getting a couple of portions in but I took a leftover portion of pie out of the freezer for lunch and coupled with our supper plans the veg content is far too low. Now admittedly, this is a rare day but this is really making me look at things like that - which I guess in an odd way is a good thing! So my task from here on in is to look a bit closer at what we are making and eating and make sure that the veg content stays high.

I agree vegetables are my issue as well. I ended up having to snack on some steamed cauliflower last night at 11pm to get my 3rd serving in. I just didn't pay close enough attention during the day I guess.

Hi Cassandra, wonderful idea. I was able to open the spreadsheet up, but when I tried to enter my numbers it does nothing. Am I suppose to open something up? Techno Dummy.

hey teammates. I learned to make an extra large portion of salad with any kind of meat for the protein at lunch time. Then I don't have to worry about whether I had enough vegetables later on. I made the mistake of thinking I could just each canned green beans (which I love), but found that I was eating a ton of salt. Within a week of stopping this and continuing to drink the water., I was no longer retaining water and my ankles look quite nice now.
Talking about water, is anyone else having trouble chugging down the 64 oz. It's a struggle for me, but I'm committed to do this.

Gloria - that's a good idea. I enjoy my veg and I don't normally have a problem but it just goes to show how some meals just aren't that great in that respect. Doing ok with the fruit though!

I'm doing ok with the water at the moment - when I'm working from home I keep a big bottle on my desk and in the office I've teamed up with a colleague two desks down in a water drinking quest. So we have to encourage and nag each other - and we have a jug on the desk between us which we fill our glasses with. So, for now it's working for me but I know that I will have days where I'm just too busy - particularly when I'm at home with the little one.

Ditto on the salad @FABRICWOMAN except I had mine for dinner. LOL -- I had to do a google search to find out what constituted a "serving" of vegetables and then planned my salad around that. Pre-planning my next day's food in MFP the night before helped me make sure I got my veggie and fruit servings in within my calorie count. My challenge is going to be going to the grocery store often enough to make sure I have enough produce to eat every day -- I hate grocery shopping :s .

For water, I've been using two water bottles to help me drink 64 oz. -- a 40 oz bottle in the office that I drink throughout the day and try to finish before leaving work and a 30 oz bottle at home that I drink throughout the evening and try to finish before going to bed.

    Good morning ladies!

I hope everyone had a good day 2 yesterday! I ended up not exercising at all, it was terrible. I just over scheduled myself at work and am coming down with a cold so I ended up sleeping all day. Feeling a bit better today and have the day off so hoping to get some light exercise in at least.

Hoping for a better day 3 today!

    Good morning all!

Cassandra - hope you are feeling better, don't overdo it today!

Patti - I've found pre-planning meals to be a lifesaver. We plan a week at a time and do one big food shop at the weekend for that plan. We've found that it makes us do better on our food choices as we're not shopping after work when tired and hungry - and it saves us money too as we don't impulse buy - so double benefit there!

I had a reasonable day 2, clocked up 22 points. Want to do better today on the food front - planned lunch is a chicken and vegetable bake so will get a couple of veg portions in there. Plenty of fresh fruit in the house so just need to find a third veg portion somewhere - I think there are some cherry tomatoes in the fridge so that might do the trick!

Hope everyone has a good day 3 :)

Thank you so much for the spreadsheet Cassandra. Is not only helpful, it makes me want more points!

I've had a 25 point day and a 20 point day. Today I'm going to try to hit 30 points. If I get my exercise in, eat my veggies and stay away from the wine, I should be good :)

Good Morning everyone (and afternoon to those across the pond)!

Hope you're feeling better Cassandra -- I hate on-coming colds, it really makes it hard to get through the day. Maybe all those fruit and veggie servings will help get you back up on your feet.

@janetay01 Jane, what goes into making a veggie bake -- I'm always on the lookout for new ways to add veggies to my diet.

Good luck @simbersea in hitting 30 points today. I'm finding it a challenge to get exercise in during the work week -- hard to get up early in the morning, tired when I get home from work.

@FABRICWOMAN Gloria -- how are you doing with that water? I'm finding it a little bit easier each day to get it in.

Good luck team with Day 3. :)

@miztessbert Patti I noticed you were using the spreadsheet to log calories burned (fantastic idea!) so I modified yours slightly so it won't mess up the totals but you can see your total calories along the right side. Hopefully you don't have any issues if you do just let me know :)

Patti - cook some chicken in the oven with red onion and some cornflour and olive oil. When cooked for about 20 minutes, add in about 200g of mixed vegetables (we use broccoli, sweetcorn, red peppers and peas), some chicken stock mixed with creme fraiche and top with some mashed potato. You can also add some red leicester cheese to the potato which gives it a lovely flavour - and stick in teh oven for half an hour. Serves a good 6 portions so not horrendous on the calorie count - although it's a lot for a lunch!

Simbersea - good luck with the 30 point quest. I've not made it there yet but working towards it.

Hope we've all had good days - loving the positve feeling through the group. Good luck for day 4!

confession time - an utterly uninspired evening meal has led me to scoff a chocolate caramel therby busting my sugary treats target for the day. Must do better tomorrow!

and while I'm at it, who would have thought that a handful of cherry tomatoes would be so many calories! Tasty and a portion of vegetables but wow!

I agree chocolate does make your clothes shrink, along with pork, desserts, ice cream. Need I go on. That was really cute! Thanks for the visual.

Good morning yellow team - hope the day treats you all well. Manic morning so far, kicked husband out of bed at 5.30am so that he could get to his early meeting, dragged little one out of bed and got him to nursery then made my way into work for 9.30am - to remember at that point that I hadn't had breakfast! Going to do well today - lunch and fruity snacks packed and will easily get my veg hit given the two meals that I'm having today. Have fun all :)

    Morning ladies!

My little guy is now sick as well as me :( luckily it's a PA day here so he'd have been home anyways. Slept in today since I'm not feeling the best so I'll have to fit in my workout later. I still had a hard time getting all my vegetables in yesterday. Hoping to get them all in today :)

@janetay01 Jane sounds like you will have an amazing day with your points!

Cassandra - sorry to hear you and the little one are sick, look after yourselves and get better soon. How old is he? What's a PA day?

My points will be good for fruit, veg and water but I'm not going to get anywhere enough calories burned in exercise, it just doesn't work for me on the days I'm in the office. Can't win them all though!

Jane he's 5. A PA day is a day the kids get off school so the teachers can do some Professional Activity (hence the name PA day) like going to workshops, grading, working on report cards.

Hi everyone! Day 4, can you believe it? My challenge today is to go grocery shopping after work since I'm near the end of my vegetables. Salad for lunch will finish them off. I'm meeting my Mom for dinner tonight and she wants Chinese -- trying to figure out what I can order that will not blow my calories. Definitely something with vegetables -- LOL.

    Good luck everyone!

Mormon all - happy day 5! I have a day with my boy today. Go back to working 5 days a week from March (boo hiss) but for now I still get my precious Friday's with him. Visiting my parents this morning then taking Alistair swimming. Then out for a cup of tea with a friend this afternoon so a busy day in prospect. Have a great day everyone and speak later!

Hello everyone, just finishing up my meal planning for today. Also have to stop at the grocery store to get veggies. I can certainly say I have not been hungry this week. I actually had to make sure I was not below the daily goals. Tracking is helping me to stay on track. Thanks for all your help and encouragement, and good luck with your tallies on Sunday!

Sorry I've been MIA - I caught a cold and I haven't been on the computer much. Hopefully this will clear out quickly and I can get back to the gym.

Hope everyone is doing well today. Only 2 days left 'til the end of week one. So what do y'all think of the challenge so far? Any positive changes? I've been eating an apple or yogurt after dinner every night instead of a less healthy dessert.

Hi all, sorry I've been absent today. Yesterday's swimming was cancelled so we went today instead and we spent a lot of the rest of the day hunting high and low in the house for my husbands watch! Such stress - thankfully we did find it

For me this challenge is making me far more aware of the quality of my calories rather than just the quantity. Hope you are all having good days and looking forward to getting your numbers tomorrow.
