We stayed up until about 1:30 CST and finally gave up since it didn't look as if there would be a decision anytime soon. I'm really surprised and shocked at the results, too. DH is happy about it, while I am very concerned for the next four years. I would be less worried if both houses of Congress weren't Republican as well.0

I've been depressed today. I went to bed before the results were finalized. After lunch, I went out and got a haircut. I was having a bad hair day. It lifted my spirits a bit. Now I'm just resigned to what will be.0

I think I'm in shock. I'll get busy for awhile and then suddenly it will hit me and the fear will bubble right back up!

For those of us to whom books and literacy are important, DH forwarded me this article by Garrison Keillor: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/trump-voters-will-not-like-what-happens-next/2016/11/09/e346ffc2-a67f-11e6-8fc0-7be8f848c492_story.html
Gave me a little bit of a chuckle this morning, though laced with sad irony.0 -
I must confess I'm like Mary Anne with moments of anxiety bubbling up when I think of the results. I was watching The View this morning and one of the panelists read a tweet from a Trump staffer. It concerned Senator Lindsey Graham's comment that h voted for someone other than Trump for president. It didn't say who but I'm assuming a write in. He made known months ago where he stood so his comment was not surprising. Anyway the tweet said grahan's name was on Trump's list. That's pretty chilling for someone who has just said he's everyone's president whether they voted for him or not. Another panelist said perhaps the staffer hadn't been briefed and spoke out of turn. I hope so but I'm not holding my breath.0

A lot of what they propose to do I will find unutterably sad but won't impact us personally. So many of my concerns are altruistic but I find nothing wrong with that. I was brought up to care about others and I hope I never forget that. The one thing that could hit us hard would be cutbacks in Medicare.
I just read that the KKK is having a rally in North Carolina to celebrate the election results. Just as all the Trump surrogates are on CNN trying to convince us that this really isn't all about race. Uh huh.....

Pam - that's a good one all right
I read jezebel just about every day. Those writers have come up with some great names!
He's already tweeting about "unfair protests". Yeah, right.
Someone on CNN was just talking about how much he'll need to start reading now. Good one! Do people not believe everyone who knows him who say over and over again the man doesn't read? The folks who say he's severely learning disabled are quite possibly onto something.0 -
The Jacquie Lawson advent calendars are out! Finally something to put a smile on my face. It's the neatest thing ever for cat people. It sits on the computer desktop and in addition to the advent calendar has puzzles and Christmas music. I send them to everyone. My vet just loves hers. www.jacquielawson.com0

PBS had a great documentary about Clinton and Trump going back to their families and early upbringing. I had a much better sense of what factors shaped both of them. Trump was sent to military school at an early age and thrived in that culture. He was the second soon but the one hos father saw as the strong one who would succeed him in business. His older brother was a softer, gentler soul. He ended up alcoholic and died at an early age. Hillary was involved in community service from an early age.It was so interesting.
I'm going to a library fund raiser today. Author Geraldine Brooks is the speaker at a luncheon. I've read a couple of her books. I'd highly recommend Caleb's Crossing if you want a good read.0 -
I've been reading Mary Burton. She started in historical romance (not my thing) and then switched to contemporary. The first book of hers I read I was like "where has this women been all my life" but since then, although I have enjoyed the books, none of them have hit me as dramatically out of the ordinary.
I picked up the latest Virgil Flowers, realized tigers get kidnapped in the first few pages, and then had to put it aside for now. I'm such a softy for even literary animals! It's pathetic.
I've got most of the makings now for Thanksgiving. I'm such a chef. Not. I almost panicked when the first store was out of Stove Top.
Haven't bought a turkey yet because I don't have freezer space. Last year I bought one early and put in the frig and then spent a couple weeks fretting over whether it was going to be in the frig too long. It wasn't but still....
I have to have the one that comes with the pop up timer.

I have the Virgil Flowers book on request at the library. Are you going yo finish it in spite of the tigers? Maybe you could skip over any graphic parts.
The luncheon speaker was excellent. I'd read 2 of her books and I want to read the one she spoke about. It's called The Secret Chord and it's based on the life of King David. It sounded really good.0 -
Helene - I don't know if I'll read the Virgil Flowers book or not. I'll be upset if they don't survive even though I know it's fiction. OTOH Virgil is one of my favorite characters.
Leonard Cohen died: One of my all-time favorite songshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrLk4vdY28Q

I'll have to check out Geraldine Brooks. At the rate I'm piling up books around here I'd better have a LONG retirement.0

With all of Trumps money, wouldn't you think he'd have a more professional dye job and spray tan? Both are so orangy! He could use a little make up on the eyelids to match the tan to get rid of the raccoon look. I hope he gets a nice make over before inauguration.0
-
As the saying goes, if Trump really was a friend to gays, they'd have already fixed his hair and tan situation!0

I'm going to make a stab at normal life today. Grocery shopping for Thanksgiving day. Use my grocery store coupon for free turkey or money off other turkeys. I've almost got everything. Still need to get the ingredients for turkey corn soup (have to plan for leftovers from that big turkey!)0

Good morning, everyone! I am back from the trip. Puerto Rico is an amazing place to visit and the people are super friendly....and their food is quite good. They are extremely worried about the outcome of the presidential election as they are afraid they will be kicked to the curb and needs ignored.
We made reservations for the same hotel for the same time next year. This is the first time we have ever done that so far in advance. The place is so beautiful from the beaches to the mountains. I have loads of photos but this is just one sample.
