love the pic Susan - I bought some tulips last week cause they so say spring to me!

No surprise the scales registered the results of my debauchery this morning - while I don't regret the time spent with friends, i obviously still have to work on the partying without going crazy (aka maintenance) aspect. But simply getting right back on track this morning. i start 7 midnights tonite but its the last set i have to do for six months so not gonna let it derail me either! Rock on hatters, rock on!

Snoozie, good for you! Life is about living and grabbing those special moments when you can! It looks like you had a wonderful time.

I, on the other hand, found out that I have some serious work to do on getting back in shape. Our hike with our son was really wonderful but we had to change our plans on distance when I just couldn't do the original hike. It completely wore me out! It was the first time since November that I had strapped on the 35 pound backpack and it showed. We ended up only hiking about six miles (up and down Signal Mountain) and luckily found a perfect campsite right by a creek. Sunday morning we just went to the overlook and called it a day (about two miles). I am certainly paying for it today. My pity party consists of too many cookies and some chips. :s Anyway.....it was great to spend time with my son.

What a wonderful family photo!! Doing what you love to do!! Don't be too hard on yourself. From where I'm standing .....a six mile hike alone is amazing !! You all ROCK!!

A six mile hike up and down steep terrain, with a pack, is hard! I hope you recover well! I love the photo. My son has a beard too - it seems to be very fashionable for young men at the moment.

My son is back visiting too, and although it's lovely to see him, I'm stressing about gaining weight yet again while he's here!

I really struggled at my circuits class yesterday - in fact the instructor was practically following me around giving me lighter weights, and telling me not to push, to take a rest, etc., so I must have looked a bit pathetic! In the end she told me to sit out out the last part of the class. It's frustrating, because I feel I put a load of work in, but don't really get much fitter. I think some of it may be down to my medication (which slows my heart rate), but I'm not sure.

Vail, give yourself credit for going! I think our bodies go through cycles. Some days you're the hare and others you're the tortoise. You may have more energy on the fast days but slow and steady wins the race! Hang in there!

I met with my YMCA coach yesterday. They're finally starting the "weight loss for life" program on May 10. I'm not sure how organized it all is but it will make me accountable to someone (a group actually) which will be good. We'll meet every two weeks and the focus of the program is on eating well within a calorie range and behavior modification. They won't be looking at macronutrients but want the food choices to be healthy. So.....we'll see how it goes. It's a year long program. The group is small so far, only six people. Maybe (hopefully) it will be the push I need.

I hope everyone is having a good week!

Thanks, Suzy! I don't think I'm ever the hare, but I'm trying to convince myself that the effort is good for my health anyway!

Your program sounds interesting. I do like the idea of a group - I have done a group course at the gym a couple of times, didn't exactly follow their plan, but I did like being with a group of people and weighing in together. I do think it helps with motivation. I also gave up smoking in a group many years ago, and found it worked very well. Both of those were six week courses. Being with the same group for a whole year should be really good!

hi ho hatters! woke early off first nites and last nice day so headed to the lake for a quick walk.. hopefully will get another "snooz" in before tonite but wanted to pop in and see how everyone is doing - and wowsa!!

suzy - LOVE the pic!!! and i'm with everyone else - girl just undertaking that hike in my book gives you huge brownie points!! (brownie.. who said brownie lol). honestly i'm so impressed; I get that you weren't thrilled u found it challenging but honestly I couldn't have made it 50 feet I don't think so you ROCK!! and time spent with your son added bonus on top of hitting that trail so well done you!! and love the program.. once these damn nite shifts are over I have to find some kind of weekly physical thing and think the group idea is fab... can't wait to hear how it goes!!

Vail - wow rock and hard place with having your son home for a full week, eh? I know you're thrilled having him but totally get your dilemma with the fasting / eating with him there! Honestly just do whatever feels right for you and enjoy the time with kiddo while you're doing what's right for you :) maybe have a bowl of broth or soup with him? I feel for you with the instructor being a "cling on" but at least she was paying attention to her students and that says a lot!! And you stuck it out so huge kudos!!

Susan - love the easter pics and I actually love seeing all pics of everyone and every place too ... kinda adds a bit to the group of us being able to visualize each other :)

and while I appreciate the lovely comments btw.. part of the problem I had with my weight for a long time was that people would say "oh you don't LOOK like you weight that much, you carry it well" to the point where I started to believe it ... which was part of what kept me from accepting that I was very much overweight.. even when the scale topped 200 and kept going ... anyway its not really about the number as such; I just wanna get back to where I feel very comfortable in my own skin and since the regain I need to drop those extra 25-30 lbs to get there . Still struggling with the logging but sticking with it :)

    have a great week hatters!!

Suzy- holy cow- I recently did 6 miles on my bike, up a lot of inclines, with no back pack and was pooped, so I personally think you did great! Glad you had fun with your son, too, and Love the photo- thanks for sharing! I know just what you mean about having the accountability with the group. I've thought about joining WW or something for that very reason.

Vail- I so hear you about both loving and stressing about spending time with your son! It is sooo hard for me to stay on track when I am around my son. I am working on strategies to allow myself to stay true to my goals and still enjoy being with him, and wish you luck with the same. As far as the fitness, I was also on heart meds for awhile, and yes indeed, I found the slowing of my heart rate definitely influenced my ability to increase "fitness". I'm not on meds anymore, and still feel rather wimpy, but I think what is important is to listen to our bodies and do what we can for overall wellness and fitness that works for us as individuals (if that makes sense).

Gail- You are always so kind and supportive to all :) And how are you doing?

Snooozie- Sorry about the midnight shifts, but great it is the last for 6 months- yay! I know what you mean about wanting to get back to where you feel comfortable in your own skin. I am aiming for the same. I am also back on track today and continuing with the logging- no matter what I eat, good or bad, or how much I eat, a lot or just right, I am logging, logging, logging. I not only want to gt back in the habit, but I really want to see just how many calories I am consuming overall each week.

I really am feeling more motivation than I have in a long while, and while it can be a slippery slope with all the things that can sidetrack me, I am determined to keep redirecting me back on track each time I slip up. Two steps forward one step back, or one step forward and two back, it doesn't matter- I AM going to do this!!!!

Susan as u know I kept my diary private for a few weeks after I got back to logging so I could feel free to log absolutely everything I was eating so I totally get u doing the same ! I still log everything the good the bad the ugly lol but I totally found seeing the amount I was actually eating very helpful. Darn cut my post off Agsin on the phone. I'm thrilled you're feeling pumped and motivated and working towards your goal !!!

    Hi Ladies...

Well, the good news is that all of my tests (EKG, CT Scan and EEG + memory test) all came back normal.

I've got the triple threat... over 50, brain bleed and menopause... lol...

My neurologist is sending me for a neurocognitive test...it's scheduled for 5 July 2017. The doctor only sees 1 patient per day.. hence the wait time.

I'm doing better than before... feeling ok... just waiting....and as Heinz would say "the waiting is the hardest part"

    I'll talk to you later.

very glad to hear the tests all came back normal carole... sorry you have to wait so long for the cognitive one tho but glad to hear you're doing better and feeling ok!!

Susan - have a fab time at the wedding - just make sure you dance a lot to burn off any vino and/or treats LOL!!

I am COUNTING the friggin nites left... only 3 to go but they feel like a million right now hahaha. I've been doing well (knock wood) with portion stuff and logging... my diary looks weird tho because with working nights some of the food was added to the next day blah blah.. I noticed one I forgot to complete it and just kept adding.. I log whatever I eat when im awake .. but it came out at something like 2500 LOL.. and got that lovely message saying in 5 weeks I would weigh over 200 again if "every day was the same" giggle snort!! been raining the past few days and I simply don't have the energy on nites to go walking .. I do walk around a lot at work tho ... laps around the building to keep from sitting so long..

ohhhhhhh and I heard a thing on the radio today about the artificial sweeteners - they followed a bunch of people for 10 years using them (all of em didn't matter what kind) and found they were 3 x more susceptible to strokes and heart attacks directly related to that crap.. soooo tossed mine and bought a thing of sugar today .... will have to start weaning myself down on the sugar in my coffee which is really only when I use it but still.. I downloaded the blood sugar book from the libarary by whats his name.. lehman? leymn? whatever... haven't started it yet but the plan is to put the nite shift to good use and get through it lol

heading back to bed but wanted to pop in and say hi to all and wish everyone a good weekend!!

    Thanks, Susan.....
Right now I am trying to get down off my sugar high ....animal crackers!!! The Barnum and Baily in a box kind......
I got a good report from my A1C test from 6.3 to 6 ....but I need to control my sugar cravings better. I use the excuse of having company and buying sweeties and then I am the one who eats them mostly..
Hoping to get back to ticker weight soon....kinda' went off on the Crazy TRain since Vacation...but it's getting there, SLOWLY.
I took some weeks off from Bootcamp and I am trying to get into it. Along with eating only until satisfied and not overly full. This is so hard. I am using Snoozies' ..."a half of a sandwich" and then later after lunch I can have the other half...It works pretty good .

I have been trying to get over this sinus drainage and coughing up SN@##. It has taken two trips to the doctor , a shot and antibiotics.....but I am finally feeling a bit better after a month or more of this.. UGH!!

We still have enough year left to get all we want to do! Lets do it!!

Good luck with the test, Carol. I suppose if the doctor only sees one patient a day you should get a very full assessment. I'm glad there's nothing sinister on your other results.

Interesting news about the artificial sweeteners, Snoozie. I don't tend to use them myself. I try to avoid sugar too, but I'm not always successful - ha ha! I did wean myself off sugar in tea and coffee many, many years ago - having 3/4 of a teaspoon instead of a full teaspoon and cutting it down bit by bit - it was pretty painless. Is Lustig the sugar guy you're thinking of? I do think sugar is probably pretty bad for us and should be avoided ... but then I get confronted by things like home-made cake, which I feel should be part of life. And there's a baker near me who does gorgeous, chewy macarons. I suppose at least with fasting there are some days when I'm having no sugar whatsoever!

the name of the guy is actualy mark hyman and the book is the blood sugar s olution -its really nothing we don't ALL already know at this stage with everything we've learned LOL... I honestly don't know why I downloaded it from the library cept I remembered my doc suggesting I read it when I was first diagnosed with diabetes.. but I stil haven't even cracked it open.. my attention span is about that of a gnat at the best of time let alone at 3am !!

anyway I agree wholeheartedly on the coffee/tea adjustment.. I used to take mine with 2 cream and 3 sugars (which looking back now makes me gag) and while i first thought no way am i ever gonna give up that. i gradualy worked it down a bit at a time to1 and 1.. so I wil just do the same agaln - i'm fine with even a tsp of sugar in a coffee and so are the diabetes people.. but when ya drink 8-10 coffees a day... it adds up so i'll work on that...

I've nevr been a candy person, my kryptonite is dark chocolate and chips (im kinda picky about my chocolate i like it just plain however i've been known to down a peanut butter cup or a kit kat when all else fails...lol) otherwise the only actual sugar I eat is in baked goods as you say; and I won't be giving them up I just have to remember its not about deprivation its smply about moderation - and especially with the chips of course that's my struggle the moderation part!! It has helped recently to remind myself that simple carbs turn into sugar in a diabetic - so when I look at the carbs in a serving now I read it as sugar instead.. and that has helped a wee bit when I wanna go refill the bowl a 2nd or 3rd time lol!!

tonight is the last freaken night shift I have to work til October or November.. somewhere around there and everyones wondering why i'm in such a good mood this week knowing I hate em lol. I told em just knowing and counting down the days was keeping me in my happy place so it's actually been a pretty good week :) but I can see my eating habits going downhill too - haven't seen a vegie in a few days but that will improve after tonite as well!!

so allin all doing ok.. and hope everyone else is too!!

Keep up the good work Vail it is always good to try things that is in your favor.

Snoozie, I agree that we should eat in moderation of whatever we want to eat. It makes me happier. And keep up the good works also

Hope it's better today Carol and the dr. visit goes well... sending {{{Hugs}}} and prayers.

    Slow day here.....

I am finding it tough to get back up in the wagon after falling off....but there is light at the end of the tunnel...Monday, I ate no sweets and yesterday, I only ate a 1/4 of a ice cream bar...instead of the whole one plus one more.... so I can see improvement. I am going back and reading my low carb and Keto books for inspiration. It seems to help me.

Boot camp is on hold for a bit....yesterday I made myself ride the bike for 5 minutes...
Trying to get my steps in....
    It's BORING!!

But I'm not Giving up...these little tweaks here and there will come together to help gets this extra weight off, that I put back over the past 4 months. I just know it!!

Milove, Good to see you, that pic of you is sooo cute with the blond, longer hair. I know I saw it when you first put it up...

Snoozie, I watched a PBS show Mark Hyman had on and it was very informative. I learned a lot from it...I can't remember what it was LOL , but at the time I thought about buying it. Lots of good info ion Blood Sugar handling.
No more NIGHTS until end of year! that is something to be ecstatic about!!
I too, find myself noticing that simple carbs turn into sugar more since becoming Diabetic...unless it's wrapped in a Ice cream sandwich....but they are no more...all gone...yes!!

Vail, I am soooo glad I know no one who makes homemade macaroons...I can't even imagine the sinful goodness of a hot, fresh macaroon...

Seehe, I know you had a blast at the wedding! Hope all is well with you.

Suzy, the YMCA coach sounds like a great thing to be able to use. I know it will be awesome.

Hello to anyone I may have missed.

    Enjoy yourselves, you deserve it!!

Gail, getting back on that wagon is incredibly hard. Good for you for coming back! I know you can do it...you've done it before and you have the knowledge and drive to get it done. Don't expect perfection; just keep trying and soon you'll have the weight off and be back in boot camp!

Gail - I fell off the wagon so hard yesterday I got bruises on me *kitten* the size of ..... well let's just say sitting down could be a problem for a while!! And getting back up on it is a step by step trip - and sounds like you've already made it back up a few steps so keep going!! the 5 min bike and the 1/4 bar both are the perfect steps to get you back up.. one at a time to keep on going.... and i'll be right behind ya climbing back onto it too!

im miffed at myself for going nutso but that was yesterday and today is a new day and one I can choose to make a better one.. so i'm off to the lake to get my walkies in - and will try to speed up my pace as well..

we're all still here hatters which means none of us have given up - so kudos to us!! we CAN get what we want!!!

Hello everyone, Gail when I am not here chatting I am falling off the wagon. You guys are encouraging. I am slowly taking pounds off but I gain enough that it will not show unless I reset my ticker but I am going to try not to.

I hear ya on the up and down milove - I lose and gain the same 3 lbs every week it seems I need to break thru this set point my body is at and get into a new set of numbers ... I've dropped my cals down a bit to about 1400 for this week and pushing the veg and water to see if I can make some progress

Hahaha....I thought I saw a couple of familiar faces when I was falling off. It's nice to be in such good company...even if it is for something neither one of us wants to do....but it is life...there will be ups and downs.. We all want more downs than ups ,though...lol We just get up, dust off our "kitten" (: ) thought I would do it for them) and keep on keeping on.... We are doing it!

Gwen - cut a small piece then cut that in half - Shoukd leave u about 3 bites worth and sit and savour each one. You may find by the time you're finished you don't want the rest of it right now and save it for tomorrow remember it's moderation not ideprivation. But it depends on your weakness I couldn't do it with chips in the house no way could I restrict me so I just can't have them but I could probably do it with cheesecake. But if you don't think you can stick it in the freezer
