Vail - totally agree with you about changing things up... the "bad" news I realized its been 2 yrs since I regained this weight and ignored it... the good news is that CICO will now be new to my body as such hahahahaha.
Milove pls keep us updated on your sons progresss too... also hoping to hear from carol soon ....

Good morning
I'm going to neurology today at 3.
Looking for good results, if not at least a plan.
And I know it's more than just stress.
Thanks for listening.
Carol

Good luck, Carol. Thinking of you. I hope you get good results and also that you get answers.2

Keep us updated Carol.
My son did well his cath came out clean no blockage or calcification. They now saying it was some kind of inflammation causing cardiac enzymes to elevate.
Nice cartoon Snoozie2 -
And praying for you Carol0
-
carol - am keeping good thoughts your neuro apt went well and they were able to get some relief and answers for you!
Milove - so happy to hear your son is doing well ... any idea what caused the inflammation?? im reading more and more about how they are finding inflammation in your body in any way plays a pretty nasty number on all the parts.. let alone in the heart area... so very glad he is doing well and no damage!
My sister texted me while I was at the lake this morning that she hopped on the scale, and weighed in at 199.1 !! She hasn't seen under 200 in probably 20 yrs so she was over the moon!! I did a little dance of joy with the ducks and sent her my celebration picture lol - so happy for her and that she is working hard after her recent medical scare to take care of herself...
and I told her welcome to "Onederland".. but SIri spelled it wonderland so I had to re type it and splain what "onederland" is in MFP speak hahahaha.
I'm going well with my logging... every time I feel like sloughing it off I slap myself and say seriously girl its about STAYING WITH THE program not doing good a day or two then whammo... I haven't perfected it yet.. realized at end of day oh yea I forgot I put butter on my toast or whatever... but.... im pretty darn close and has opened my eyes again to just how much I was eating amount wise .. so.. one day at a time will keep on fighting the good fight!!
Rock on hatters!1 -
Carol: Sending positive thoughts your way for good results or at least a good plan
Milove: How scary about your son and so glad it wasn't a heart attack. Even so, sounds like the inflammation still is nothing to sneeze at. Do they have any idea what caused the inflammation or plan to reduce the inflammation?
Vail: I've heard the exact same thing about the need to change things up from a reliable source. My only problem is the changes I made were not healthy ones !
Snooozie-Love love love the fitting room picture
And a huge CONGRATS to your sister for hitting onederland
That is inspirational, so thanks for sharing! Good for you on the logging progress. I was desperate the other day and went through the Culvers drive through where they listed the calories which was an eye opener for sure. My Culver burger was 810 calories, so I didn't order any sides or a drink and had to eat a light dinner later. I also have been waiting too long to eat and then I'm starving and pig out. Next time you give yourself a slap, will you slap in my direction, too?
I've had a lot of stress lately with my family of origin and then a husband health scare which at first appeared to be cirrhosis or cancer of the liver but lab results were OK for that - Thank God!-so looks more like a kidney infection or some other kidney issue. He had a sonogram of his kidneys on Thursday, and we are just waiting on results. Interestingly and thankfully, his symptoms have gone away by now without any intervention, so crossing my fingers and toes it was a fluke incident. We decided to take advantage of him feeling better and the beautiful day (heat wave coming tomorrow), so we explored the new bike trail extension by our house which is part of something called The Loop, a network of interconnecting bike trail looping around the city. It's a total of 55 miles currently with an eventual projected plan of 115 miles. Now that I've said that, we are going to sound like wimps when I say we rode a little over 6 miles, but understand that the terrain is full of hills, not to mention wildlife like the bobcat that crossed our path or the rattlesnake that my husband almost ran over! It was a bad allergy day, too, so my asthma was kicking in, so we took some breaks and really enjoyed the ride and the day.

Carol, sending you many hugs and prayers!!1

Just getting back from vacation... so much to read and catch up on... I really hate SNAKES and it was hard to look up at that thing and type.....felt like he was gonna STRIKE!! lol Susan, I hope he wasn't too close..1
-
I hope everything's OK with your hubby, Susan. It seems to be a time for family health problems at the moment. Your bike trail looks ... interesting. Actually, I imagine it's lovely to be so close to local wildlife. I live just next to a bike path too, but haven't used it for a long time - I really need to get my bike revamped. However, it's flat where I live and cycling on hills is a completely different story! Back when I was around 30 I lived on the side of a mountain, and I used to more or less freewheel down into town but coming back was a killer! I always kind of wished it was the other way round so I could get the hard part over with, and freewheel home! So I do appreciate that six miles of hills can be plenty!1
-
Susan - omg LOL... I am TOTALLY impressed.... and had to laugh at the hills part.. there are some smaller "rises" (can't even be called a hill) on my lakefront path and any time i'm heading UP I think I should fix up my bike... now i'm rethinking that LOL! total kudos to both of you...and 6 miles?? are you kidding me?? that's excellent!
im with gail on the snakes.. NOT my fav altho I would have loved to have seen the bobcat (as long as he kept going that is!) Very sorry to hear about hubby's recent health scare; very glad to hear what it WASN'T ... and hoping that with the symptoms gone, whatever it was fixed itself and/or the test results show something easily corrected...
yes am thrilled for sista hitting onederland:):):)
those calorie postings you mentioned susan - I find they DO make a difference for me as well... I would occasionally have a whopper junior here and there... til I saw even THAT had something like a 400 calorie count.. so I switched to a junior hamburger or something LOL.. and looking at the numbers for any of the "regular" things like whoppers or the one you mentioned where it's somewhere around 800-1000 cals each just on their own?? YIKES... there will be days i'm sure when I still indulge, but definitely seeing the cals will change what I order no matter what..
I also read somewhere that I think its MacDonalds? some of their SALADS have more calories AND fat than a big mac!
The scale is starting to move a wee bit after a week of relatively good logging... Mondays are going to be my weigh in day til I get back to GW - I wasn't going to log the little loss I had as of this morning but figured I needed to see it for motivation to continue LOL.
we've had a few nice days so taking advantage of being able to walk at the lake... yesterday one of the swans was happy to pose for a few pics showing off.. but the other guy??? well i'll try to post the pics without them being huge... but let's just say the other guy made it perfectly clear he was NOT impressed with me intruding on his "me time"... ha!! Rock on hatters!
and "MR. NOT SO IMPRESSED GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME"

p.s. GAIL hope you had a wonderful vacay!!1

I am happy so far all test are good for your husband Susan. Love the pics except for the snake. lol
Still keeping you in my prayers Carol.
How was your vacation, Gail?
Good for you Snoozie with your logging in!
My son is still trying to follow up with, he went back to work no complaints at this time. I will be spending a week with him the end of May, his wife is having her second son and asked me to come to help out. I am off this week for spring break, feels good to relax at home.1 -
Hello Hatters! I'm back from the beach and unfortunately I did not do as well as Susan! I swear, I have absolutely no self control. Making another fresh start today!
Carol, we are all hoping for good news! Keep us posted!
Milove and Susan, I hope your loved ones are okay. So many scary health posts lately! Nothing makes you feel more helpless than when a loved one is sick with unknown causes.
Snoozie, good for you for getting back to logging and making such great progress! I'm going to follow your lead.
I would definitely freak about that snake but seeing a bobcat would be cool! It sounds like a great biking trail though. Six miles was a good start!
My son actually called yesterday and he has an entire month at home in Nashville!!! He's been doing some hiking lately and said he'd like to go on an overnight. So we're meeting him near Chattanooga next weekend to do just that! I can't wait! We so rarely get to see him anymore so this will be awesome! I just hope I'm ready for it!
Have a great week everyone!1 -
Hi ladies
Good news...EKG, CT scan, EEG and memory tests all came back positive. (Nothing wrong).
My neurologist said that because I'm recognizing that I'm making mistakes shows that I'm normal...(whatever that is).
She's sending me for neurocognitive testing.
I saw the other medical notes.. Glad that everyone is on the mend.
Talk to you soon.
Carol

I'm so glad, Carol! It must have been such a worrying time. And I suppose you still don't have clear answers, but at least able to rule out some of the more sinister causes. Good luck with the neurocognitive testing (I have no idea what they do for that!).
Have a lovely time with your son, SuzyQ! And you too, Milove! My son is over for a couple of days next week - will have to be careful with eating!
Well done on the logging and losing, Snoozie! I so rarely go to MacDonalds now ... but in the past I've bought one of their Happy Meals (kids meals) - at least it's a smaller controlled amount. And a hangover from my Atkins days - I've sometimes bought the burger I wanted and just removed the bun - who needs an extra 200 calories of substandard bread? But of course it makes it difficult to eat in public. I've also bought tortilla wraps and thrown away most of the tortilla.
My fast food weakness at the moment: a local place that makes its own pulled pork and pastrami (the pastrami is amazing), with rye and sourdough rolls from a local baker. I tried to post a picture of their sandwiches, but they're amazing. All that Waygu beef and homemade this and that makes you forget that they're probably twice the calories of a MacDonald's, if not more!1 -
Thank goodness Carol, so happy everything came back good. lol
Way to go, Vail with the ideas of eating fewer calories. I use to buy the 40 cal slice of bread, and deleted rice from my diet, it worked but couldn't keep it up lately. I guess when I went through that dizzy spell, I put everything back in my diet with some moderation. And, I am still doing the gymnastics once to twice a week. I am going to see how this goes for a while since I feel pretty good.
Suzy I am so glad you are going to spend time with your son that is so wonderful.2 -
Morning Hatters!
Funny about the bread talk recently - I have certainly cut down on the amount of bread I used to eat, but I still have it mostly for work lunches.. and for a while I was spending almost $4 a loaf on the weight watchers ones simply because they had far less carbs in em... (Im cheap so I had a hard time with paying that much plus it went bad very quickly)
anyway I finally figured out that the WW had much less carbs cause they were simply very thin slices.. lol so I did a lot of label reading and now I buy a 2.89 loaf of wonder thin slice LOL.. it has the same # of carbs and since white bread is just white bread no matter how hard they try to pretend its anything close to healthy, for the times I use bread that's what I useI do find a regular slice of bread now kinda creeps me out at how thick it is.. lol im so used to eating the thin stuff now I guess - which just goes to show me I CAN make changes I never thot I could
Carol - excellent news on the test results; very happy for you!
Milove - I read an interesting article (depressing but interesting since I flunked maintenance once I hit my goal weight) and it does kinda suggest dropping "dieting" and stop cutting out any foods is the answer to llong term success.. reminding us there is no "bad" food but that we have to remain vigilant about the overall intake forever to avoid regaining (now they tell me hahaha) so I haven't ditched anything as completely verboten either - except quinoa .. and kale. but I ditched em long before the weight loss journey simply because I hate em HAHAHA.
bET YOURE gonna have a blast with the new baby and so nice of you to go help out (god bless grandmas) but gad you get to enjoy this week of break just chillaxing too!
welcome back suzy! I hope you had a blast on vacay with your daughter!! you must be over the moon at the chance to go hiking with your son this weekend... awesome news!! enjoy the unexpected gift!
Vail - I love pastrami, pulled pork and sourdough.. so I beg of you pls don't post that PICTURE lololol
funny tho.. I stopped for a coffee after my dentist apt this morning, and noticed our local coffee chain (Tim Hortons) now has the calories posted on all its donuts .. holy crap... even my little timbits - the choc ones are 90 EACH ... so yep I traded down for 2 old fashioned plain ringing in at 50 apiece LOL...

I've been fooled by "diet" bread in the past too, until I worked out that it was just less bread per slice! I don't eat it often, but when I do I tend to eat really nice bread so that it feels like it's worth the calories. I've grown up with bread being something cheap to fill you up, but I think it's better for me to think of it as a luxury food and eat it less! I could easily put away a fair quantity of buttered toast, given half a chance. Anyway, my technique now is to buy a really good loaf, slice it up and freeze it, so it's not so instantly available. Now you can actually toast bread straight out of the freezer, but at least it's out of sight, out of mind, and I'm not having to think I should eat it up before it goes off!0

This was the article I mentioned in the MFP healthy blog thingie... its an interesting read about why its so hard to lose weight AND keep it off.. and yes I know we've all read hundreds of em lol this one talks about the body's "set point" prob tho.. where your body gets comfy with a certain weight and why its so hard to break out of it.. and a few suggestions on how to do so - including carb cycling (or intermittent fasting) and upping protein etc.. seems to cover a few things we've all been working on so anyway here's the link to the short article just in case anyone is bored sometime lol

Since vacation , I have been swamped and haven't taken time to read up yet, too tired. I will try to get it all in this weekend.
Vacation was wonderful, excellent weather, too much food, and no "beached whale" sightings!! a win -win for me....except for the too much food part, but I am working on getting that back under control.
Love you girls!!2 -
yay so glad your vacay was fab too Gail!1
-
Suzy- glad you had fun at the beach and happy to hear you get to spend some time with your son!
Milove- hope any follow up results for your son are encouraging ones. Also, a new grandchild on the way-very exciting! Hope you are enjoying your week off :-)
Vail- that pulled pork sandwich sounds absolutely delicious!
Gail- welcome back!! So glad you enjoyed your vacation.
Snooozie- oh my gosh those swans are beautiful;much prettier than rattlesnakes! LOL about the one dodging your cameraAlthough I love the mountains and have been a Desert Rat now for 39 years, I do miss the water, any water, lake, river, ocean, and it's wildlife. Closest I can get to hanging out around water here is to go to the swimming pool.
Speaking of bread, I have read that for blood sugar purposes, sourdough bread is the best, something to do with how it is processed, which works out well for me 'cause I love sourdough.
I have finally reached a point where I am truly and seriously FED UP with the 20 to 23 pounds (depending on the day ) of weight I regained from the original 40 lost. So, yesterday I did some meal planning, went to the grocery store, and started logging my food again, aiming to stick to my designated calorie and macro unit goals. Well, holy cow, by mid day I had far less calories left than anticipated, and that is with my calorie goal set at 1600, 150 higher than my original when I started this journey. I highly suspect I have been eating way too many calories for quite some time, so I am going to stick with this logging. It is going to be a challenge as I have a hefty appetite, and I really don't like feeling hungry, but the way my metabolism works is any time I start to lose even a tiny bit of weight I get super hungry, like my system is trying to keep me from starving, even though I'm not. Its always been like that. So I can't go by the common sense rule of eating when you are hungry, and have to get used to overriding or trying to ignore the hungry signal, which is not exactly easy. What I have to do when I know I am eating the appropriate amount of calories, but I get really hungry, like right now, is psych myself into accepting it as a sign that I am about to,or have, lost some weight. I know I can do this, I HAVE done this, and I can DO IT AGAIN!

Quick pop in from work Susan read that article I posted the link to above it talks about the very tho g u mentioned about feeling hungry - we actually DO feel it our bodies use it to keep us in that "set point" mode so it's Yee body somalljbg hunger even tho your not hungry - maybe that will help u when the hunger pangs hit to know it's just your body trying to fight u0
-
sorry wrote that quick at work last nite - and this morning I can see how badly it came out LOL.. meant the article talks about how our bodys make us feel hunger even when we're not (when we're trying to lose weight) cause it wants us to stay at the "Set point" its comfy at lol..
and LOVE the cartoons omg.. lol specially the mirror one!!1 -
Oh my gosh Snooozie, that article is spot on! Silly me for not reading it first. It makes me feel better, too, knowing that it is not just my brain that plays The Hunger Games me with (yes pun intended lol). Thanks much for sharing the article and your encouragementto read it1

It seems strange, but I'm finding that fasting is really helping with the hunger thing. It's bizarre - I'd hardly believe it if I hadn't experienced it myself, but it actually seems to suppress hunger as time goes on. I haven't eaten anything today - the hungriest I felt was in the morning before going to the gym. I was around people who were eating at teatime, and I although I was thinking "I wouldn't mind a bite of that", I wasn't actually hungry. I wasn't thinking "OMG, I'm going to faint if I don't eat something in the next ten minutes!" like I used to! I'm hoping this lasts!4
-
im glad to hear you are finding the fasting so helpful Vail!
I did an impromptu visit to a friends cottage; its only an hour away and it was a gorgeous day yesterday so we decided early on to drive up just for the day.. went up early and met up with a couple more people up there; cleared the yard of fallen branches and got a fabulous bonfire out of it... then ended up on the dock in the beautiful sunshine and warm temps to finish off the evening.. it was an awesome day and great getting together with everyone, but needless to say between noshing all day and free flowing wine, i'm simply hoping NOT to have a gain Monday - not a chance of any loss but life's about seizing the moment right
Pics aren't great because well there was a lot of wine consumed at that point LOL.. but that's me in the hat !it was so gorgeous we ended up staying down at the dock til sunset - with a few trips up the stairs to get another refill or two LOL
3 -
That looks like a lovely evening, Snoozie - the kind that's worth a small gain on the scales! And you are looking great, you slim thing, you! It's hard to believe you have any more left to lose! The logging must be paying off.2
