I read somewhere that it's just the first two or three bites that really quench your desire for the food. After that your taste buds become overwhelmed and it won't taste as sharply delicious as the first few bites. I'm working on that but haven't conquered it...obviously. It's a good approach when you're faced with cheesecake that's calling your name though.

The first meeting is May 10 and I have to take in two weeks of my food diary with me. I also have to record my weight for three Wednesdays and take that. It's funny...I've already found myself saying, "do I really want to have to record eating that and have my coach see it?" Maybe being accountable to someone else really will give me that extra incentive. I sure hope so. Unfortunately my nephew and his wife and friends are visiting this weekend and I already had to record two gin & tonics plus we're going out to dinner tonight. Then next weekend I'm going to Dallas for my other nephew's son's first birthday. I've really got to figure out how to handle special occasions or anything out of my usual routine.

Wow that sounds like it might be a great tool if it already has you thinking about recording lol. And I agree I am I te same boat trying to figure out how to simply incorporate the occasional social aspect without going nuts - but life is gonna happen and we need to be able to not fear it and just know it's an occasional day and that the next will just go back to our "normal" healthy

sorry every time I use the phone app it cuts off my replies! but I think it's great you have to bring a 3 week record - that will average out and be a realistic record! I have days in my diary since I started re logging again that make me cringe lol... but it does actually help if I log as I go to keep me from straying sometimes when I see I only have so many calories left.. looking forward to hearing how everything goes and have a great time with the visits!

Susan - how was the wedding celebration ??

Gail - when I saw your walking log the other day "without dog" I thought no dog cause she was walking ME lol.... looks like we were at it together!

Hahaha....I would love too walk with you, it always looks so lovely there.

Taking today to move some crap outta the way to put in a second fridge that someone was going to toss cause the ice maker is broken.....I have always need more room. there is never any room in my fridge for leftovers due to too many condiments.....all kinds of pickles, mustard mayo, chili sauce, baslamic dressings ....etc... My brother says that is a sign of someone who doesn't cook too much! BUSTED!! t1903.gif.... not much going on here if I can help it!! lol

That's funny about the fridge - I have too many condiments too, for my tiny fridge. I stick them all in the door. It would be a terrible thing if I ran out of pickles - lol!

Suzy, the food diary does sound like a great idea, to get an idea of your "normal" eating before starting and see what you want to change. I actually lost some weight a while ago recording what I ate in a diary - actually writing it down seemed to make me eat less! Or at least be more mindful.

Morning Dear Hatters. Sedona was lovely. No chance to dance things off at the wedding as it was a very strict southern Baptist affair where dancing is not allowed ! But Bob and I were able to really enjoy a few times (on our own ) this restaurant called The Hideaway where we sat outside with lovely weather and an incredible view, relaxed , sipped on yummy cocktails , and chatted with peeps from around the country at neighboring tables. I discovered a new martini there that admittedly is like a dessert, and is my new Achilles heel lol. Of course this tipped the scale the wrong way upon my return, but I was able to get back on track and take it back off. The unusually encouraging thing is I even lost a little more. Now I am off to a Michigan for a long weekend for a going away party for my favorite niece who is moving to France with her hubby and new baby. Going to do my best to enjoy all the festivities without going too crazy ( these events are the opposite of a southern Baptist wedding lol) and do damage control when I return. Even with all the ups and downs - I feel like a yo-yo- I have managed to have an overall loss of 8.8 pounds since mid February. I am stoked to keep it going and continuing to work on portion control which is my biggest challenge.
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy rest of their week!

So true about the process! Glad you had a good time. I'm intrigued by the new kind of martini, but probably best that I don't know or I'd want one! And overall loss of 8.8lb in a few weeks is amazing! Enjoy the weekend!

Love the chart pic....so true!!! I'm off to Dallas for my great-nephew's first birthday. I'm just now getting back on track from having company last week. I wish I could figure out how to enjoy myself one night or one meal and then get right back on it. I've gone up and down the same darn ten pounds for (it seems like) the last three years!!!!

Well, since you two are curious lol, the secret ingredients to the most wickedly delicious martini that taste like a dessert are vanilla vodka, Chambord liqueur which has a raspberry flavor , and Godiva Chocolate Liqueur :)

Oh my goodness, that sounds like something delicious! Love Chambord and I have a bottle of it sitting just a few feet away from me as I type! I wish I hadn't thought about it now - lol!

Suzy, I wish I knew that secret too (how to jump back on the wagon after just one meal or night). I think when I overeat I open the floodgates. Seriously, I've even been out for a big meal with friends and come back and home and have a snack - what's that all about? I don't normally snack, so how can I crave it after eating?

Susan that is too wicked but sounds so delicious.

Snoozie and Suzy it worked I took one bite and I forgot about it and I had to toss it in the trash a few days later.

Suzy what is this meeting about on May 10 and bringing your diary for a couple of weeks?

Ahhh.... Godiva chocolate liqueur w raspberry flavored Chambord sounds tempting! I will have to try it sometime when I get out somewhere....thanks!!

Off next week for a home stay-cation to de -clutter a bit before Young Son's little family moves in with us. You know I must have jinxed myself when I was so oooooooo sure that she would never let them move into my small cluttered beginning hoarders home. WRONG!!!
Her Mom's home is bigger and much cleaner.....I just knew it wouldn't happen..... : (
But My house is where Jamie is and that's where she wants to be as they plan their future, so I will have to get used to it for a year or so.... I love them, just HOUSE TOO SMALL!! LOL On the plus side the 4 year old G-Baby is a wonderful addition to my day... I can't even explain how much of a wise cracker she is... She keeps me on my toes.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Ps. I hope all the rain and levees break( hmmmm just got a Led Zeppelin rush) haven't caused any drama to any of you.

Sending a shout-out to Snoozie and Carol!! Hope all is well with you!

Maybe they just enjoy your house and company more...you make them feel more comfortable. Enjoy the time together and try not to stress.

Today was my first day in Dallas and I actually did great! My nephew got Whataburger so I got a junior burger (no cheese or mayo) and only ate half of the bun. Then he ate two chocolate candy bars and I got veggies with light ranch. I had street tacos for dinner and limited it to two. I'm very proud of myself! Yay! Now to just make it through until Monday afternoon!

    Have a great weekend Hatters!

Your house sounds like mine - small and cluttered! I would struggle to let a family move in, and I think it's really kind of you to offer. Maybe they just feel more at home with you. It might be difficult having a small child in a "perfect" house! Or maybe they just prefer your company. Either way, I would take it as a compliment ...and at least it's temporary and you get time with your grandchild. I'm just envious because my son has no intention of providing me with grandchildren yet, despite my hints! Good luck with the bathroom queues, laundry, etc. on the horizon!

Well done on the eating, SuzyQ! That's one of my tricks with burgers, to not eat the bun, because I don't enjoy it nearly as much as the patty. I feel a bit silly doing that, though!

You sound busy, Snoozie! I hope you enjoyed the volunteering.

I'm doing fine. Fasting is working well for me, although it amazes me how slowly I lose weight considering how much I don't eat - lol! I did a five day fast last week and ended up a pound lighter than the week before. Not that I want to lose super-fast, but anyway ... it's working, if slowly. The big challenge is that my son is coming home for a year! I'm delighted, but have enjoyed having full control of the kitchen - lol!

I've really missed my adult ballet classes, but I've found one near me at a more suitable time, so I'm going to try that out tomorrow! I feel I need to work on my posture and hope this will help.

We had our first meeting today for the weight loss for life program. I reset my ticker and am ready to make this commitment. The session went well. It's a new program so I think we're kind of feeling our way through it. We meet every two weeks. The next session will be preceded by a body composition clinic. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will be the motivation I need to get and stay serious.

I'm glad it went well! I like the idea of a group of people all starting at the same time, so you're all going through it together. The body composition clinic could be interesting! Let us know how it goes!

    Hello everyone,

Gail, I am glad you are enjoying your family children are so special.
Good for you for volunteering Snoozie, like to hear all about it.
Vail how are you doing the fasting? Curious ready to try other things. Feeling very stressful lately.
Nice that you are enjoying Dallas Suzy!

The fasting ... well, I've been roughly following The Complete Guide to Fasting. I've found shorter fasts (24 hours or less) don't seem to work for me, so have been going for longer. The longest was five days, but I wonder if that's a bit too long for me. I currently haven't eaten for over 48 hours. It does seem to be shifting the weight, and supposedly has health benefits. I'll see how it works out in the long term! I "cheat" by having a bit of milk in my tea, and occasional chia seeds, bone broth, extra salt, magnesium supplements. I'm finding it suprisingly easy to do and kind of calming at times! I also enjoy not having too worry too much about what I'm eating when I'm having eating days!

Oh, Snoozie, I'm sorry about the other shoulder - you do seem to have had a lot of physical problems recently. It must make things so difficult. No wonder your eating hasn't been perfect! I hope it's all sorted soon. Yes, you're right that we're all still hanging in there - we may falter, but we don't give up! Thanks for that!

So sorry to hear about your shoulder, Snoozie. How disappointing to deal with this when you've made such great efforts at getting back on track. Hang in there! I know you'll overcome this and be back with bells on!

Vail, I tried the fasting approach for a while and just couldn't stick with it. I would end up so hungry that I would go way off the rails. Good for you for having the commitment to do it!

Gail, how are the new living arrangements going?

Milove, how's the stress level? I find that I stress eat. They say to exercise instead but unfortunately the food sounds more comforting to me. Probably why I'm in this predicament! Hahaha!

I'm not off to an auspicious start on this program. Things keep coming up to wreck my plans. Now I've got to go to Nashville tomorrow (on Mothers Day!) to help my son move into a new place. I'll probably be there for two or three days. He and his girlfriend (of five years) have split up and he's moving out. I really really don't do well when I'm thrown off my routine. Also, my daughter is coming over tonight for a BBQ for an early Mothers Day celebration. I need strategies to help me stay on track when faced with special occasions or unexpected events. I'm logging my awful choices and dreading showing them to the group. On a positive note, I did go back to the gym yesterday and my abs are so sore today!

Happy Mother's Day ladies! I hope you're all pampered and lucky enough to spend some time with your kids tomorrow!
