Thank you Snoozie for your spread of cheer with encouraging words and for sharing your feelings. I do feel better and I have a year to improve. Snoozie no loss but no gain is not so bad.

Happy Birthday again Carol!! Hope your special day was enjoyable.

Chuckling to myself about 10 years ago I went hiking in some woods in North Carolina and got Chiggers all over my body just everywhere and I mean everywhere. I had to pluck them off. First and last time that I went hiking. And bad muscle cramps in both thighs during the night. Anyway good you did not take the overgrown trail Suzy take it from my experience.

IPOM I have been logging and I loss yayyy.

Just had an IPOM moment. I make my hubby's lunch every night before I go to bed. He has pretty much the same thing every day. I was packing up his four cookies and there was one left in the package and it was broken! Now, we all know that eating a broken cookie is a no brainer! But I didn't do it!!!! I put that broken chocolate chip cookie in his bag with the others. I know...small thing to most people...but y'all understand, right? IPOM! :D

    hi hatters!
carol happy belated birthday hope you enjoyed the day!

Suzy - total IPOM.. absolutely!! and yes you're right broken is a no brainer lol.. so double kudos !! Milove so glad to hear you're feeling better!

I had massage therapy yesterday and she worked on my legs.. holy cow It hurt big time.. I squealed like a pig a few times lol. but hopefuly by tomorrow they will feel the good result! Funny tho she mentioned that they could be sore because they are weak.. I was like hey I walk everyday but she said those only use the same muscle every day and tht I should add some squats and a few other things a little at a time to start strengthening other muscles n the legs. which I kinda already knew.. anyway gonna continue with it 2x a month or until my benefits run out !! ha...

will check in later... doing ok with the portion and choices but will need to do some groceries on the way home today to keep it up...hoping to see a wee loss next week

Well done, Suzy!! I know exactly what you mean...for me ,If it's in the hand It's in the mouth .....

All the massage therapy sounds lovely and painful.... The two times I got one , I was sore for days after....I didn't know if that was normal or not...My idea was a soft ,soothing ,relaxing massage.....not the deep Swedish massage type with the large blond woman named Helga in the comedy sketches you see on tv.

Portion control is still an issue, but no bread w dinner....that's a win.

Sweets were down on the lower scale, made cheesecake mini's w chocolate fudge in bottom of crust and didn't like it....so that is also going to be a win for me...I won't be tempted.

    Bye for now.

lol Gail @ Helga... I've had MT before so I knew it wasn't gonna be that lovely soft soothing one... or the one with the hot stones all over ya... sigh.. but I may treat myself to one of those some time lol... but I just didn't realize how stiff everything was - like suzy said "concrete" and I had to restrain myself a few times from yelling hell NO.. ha.

great job on skipping the bread AND total score with making something you didn't like LOL.. perfect way to decide its SO not calorie worthy eating something you didn't like!!

Weeeeeeelllllllll....did I just come right out and say I didn't like the cheesecake w/fudgec hocolate bottoms and it wouldn't tempt me...??? ......seems like with time in the fridge, they taste pretty good, or so it seems with me eating TWO of them..

It's ok ,I burned off that and more trying to bush-hog my lawn with a small push mower....It has been raining every day for over a week and the grass has been soaking it up and growing! If it doesn't rain this evening, then I will be getting some more exercise. And there isn't anymore of the cheesecake mini's to tempt me....seems 12 of them can be eaten pretty quickly with a family of 5.

At least they're gone!!! Good for you for working off those calories!

I went for a massage today. She concentrated on my upper back/neck. It wasn't the ultra deep tissue type that y'all were referring to though. It felt soooooo good while I was getting the massage but it's still a bit stiff and sore now. I guess it just takes time. I'm going once a week for four weeks....got an online deal. I wish I could afford it more often but no such luck.

We may go overnight backpacking/camping this weekend. It's gonna be hot!!! Maybe I'll sweat off some of this weight!

Gail agree with Suzy you worked those suckers off with all that lawn mowing!!

Suzy im glad you were able to get an online deal; and 4 weeks should be enough to fully work on the upper back/neck.... hopefully you can score another one down the road too! I am gonna try to go once a month after these sessions are done but will depend on the $ too here!

If you went backpacking I hope the weather is good and that you remembered to bring extra hydration along this time!! I saw an article somewhere that talked about the best fruit to bring along on hikes cause its full of water.. I know watermelon was one lol...

after a week of dayshifts I finally got to the lake this morning and it was a lovely sunrise.. but then I found a leaf that looks like its already starting to turn .. it's WAY too soon for the leaves to start changing so I've decided its just naturally colored that way and it is not a sign summer is almost over LOL. stopped at the farmers market and loaded up on veg and 2 ears of corn as a treat - its in season such a short time gotta indulge while its here!

    Good Morning Ladies,

Great going with the massage therapy Suzy and Snoozie!

Also great job with the lawn mowing calorie burning Gail.

That lake is so relaxing just looking at the picture Snoozie. And looks like fall is nearby in your area.

I was a little worried that I was going to go over in calories yesterday because I wanted to eat out. So I reduced my calories for morning and noon. And I just finished calculating my dinner and looks like I didn't do so bad. IPOM

    Enjoy your weekend ladies.

Great thinking Milove! It sounds like you're really figuring out how to adapt your lifestyle to meet your goals. You're rockin it!!!

Didn't get to go overnight backpacking but we're going on our day hike tomorrow. I've been doing really well in my eating and we walked every night this week. It's so disappointing when you stick to it and don't see much progress. It's about this time that I usually get frustrated and order a pizza. I have six weeks from today before we leave for Virginia and start our hike on the following Monday. I'm determined to stay the course until then and just see what happens. I always give up on myself too soon but not this time.

Snoozie...your lake is beautiful! After hiking in this heat all summer I am more than ready for Fall!!! Of course our Fall in Georgia is probably much different than yours.

I am frustrated too Suzy - but I just keep telling self it's long term consistency and if I stick with it and keep enjoying healthy food I like in normal size portions or less (rather than snoozie size !) that I will see results. And so will you !! Enjoy tomorrow !

Good afternoon Hatters! It's been awhile since I've been on the site, but I did catch up with everyone's posts. Happy to see all the ipom moments :)
Life has been a bit crazy here with Bob's kidney and my sinuses, but I am happy to report that Bob got over his kidney infection so was able to have his lithrotripsy outpatient surgery to blast his 9mm kidney stone into smithereens so he can pass the resulting tiny stones which he has been doing without pain. I have been on a week of antibiotics for my sinuses and doing somewhat better but still coughing, so going to try using my inhaler in case it's asthma.
As far as weight is concerned , it's been as crazy as my life has been lol. I dropped something like 5 pounds in a nano second when bob was in the hospital, but then gained like 7 back, and now lost two so I'm back to where I started lol. The important thing, though, is that Bob is healthy now and past the kidney issues, and I am doing better as well, and now that all of that is behind us, I can focus more on my healthy habits and weight goals. I started walking again indoors at Udall Park, and cooking healthy meals at home again. To add to that, my additional goal this week is going to be no eating/snacking in front of the TV at night.
I do wish to thank you Snooozie for the important reminder about how valuable we all are, just as we are.
Wishing all you valuable , awesome Hatters a wonderful weekend! Don't forget to be kind to yourselves <3

    Happy Monday hatters!

I know.. happy and Monday rarely go together LOL....

But on the other hand, it signal the beginning of a new week, which also means we get to let go of any less than perfect choices from the weekend that might be taking up room in our heads, and free ourselves up to the opportunity of making better ones and taking better care of ourselves this week!! heck lets just start with TODAY. and maybe look at today as a reward day for ourselves?? Not the old kind of reward day (you know what I mean - those days we used to see as "cheat days" ?) Today how about we change the meaning of a reward day and instead make it a day where we reward ourselves with things that are GOOD for us! Take a walk, do some stretches, take a yoga class, do a few extra stairs, meditate, whatever you can do that is GOOD for us!

And lets look at our food choices and decide to REWARD ourselves with better choices for today!! Treat ourselves more today to some of the foods we ENJOY and that are also good for us - REWARD OURSELVES! sink your teeth into a juicy peach, a crisp apple or a nummy banana - have some lovely chicken chopped in a crisp salad or throw some nuts in it instead - cook up a bunch of veggies in one pot (less cleanup!!) I often throw carrot and turnip in together, then toss in fresh green beans for the last few minutes!! a tiny bit of butter and salt and a pepper and its a feast meant for a Queen - well this Queen anyway! I know a batch of butter beans are scrumptious for some (hahaha!)

So Im making this the official MMH REWARD day - (Vail you may get to have Reward Tuesday as you're several hours ahead of us time wise lo) and I wanna hear any and all of the rewards everyone gives to themselves later on!! i'm off for a walk at the lake as my first reward - and one of my favorites a toasted tomato and lettuce sandwich on thin bread for breakfast after as my second! Then off to physio and MT today..

    Happy reward day hatters!

Great idea Snoozie! I'm thinking a veggie stir fry with chicken and maybe even a few shrimp? It's a lot of chopping but I haven't made that in ages and I love it. Served over either some cauliflower "rice" or zuchini "noodles?" Yum!

    Have a great eclipse day!

Suzy that sounds AMAZING!! and such a fabulous reward - tons of veg, great proteins and best of all, good for ya and totally scrumptious!!! worth the chopping girl!!

I picked up a clamshell of strawberries as they were on sale for $1.48 (yup i'm cheap LOL).. AND I'm having leftovers from dinner last night tonite - I made the Skinnytaste chicken with mushrooms in a light balsamic cream sauce and it was yummers - I had it on an few No yolk egg noodles with a side of fresh green beans - I had to restrain myself from going back for seconds even though I wasn't hungry it was just so good (and more important super easy lol).

I am also going to make a quesadilla for lunch - but a veggie one made with about 1/4 cup of kidney beans mashed with a fork and spread on the tortilla, then topped with a low sodium salsa and a bit of low fat cheese and green onions, and a tbsp. of sour cream to top it off! Well within my lunch calories and the extra fiber from the kidney beans will kick up another veg in. i'm loving REWARD day so far ... although im thinking I might go to Suzy's house for dinner instead LOL...

Yum Snooozie and Suzy! Since I am not known for my cooking, I went to one of my favorite markets yesterday and picked up a yummy spinach and feta cheese stuffed croissant for dinner last night and some delicious lobster salad which I enjoyed for lunch today, as well as a yummy california chicken salad for tomorrow's lunch. My additional rewards were meeting my friend at Udall Center for a walk indoors and a session with my neuromuscular physicist which helped my neck and my knee which acted up today.

I might be struggling with a reward day today (yes, it's Tuesday!), as I'm fasting and I'm having problems with my knee, so any exercise is difficult. I will resist rewarding myself with a healthy glass of red wine! Normally, I'm pretty good at rewarding myself with healthy food, to be honest - I love the junk stuff too, but I'm quite a good cook if I say so myself and make some pretty good meals out of nutritious food. All your meals sound delicious!

The reward can be anything, not just healthy food Vail!! Curl up with a good book, call an old friend, the idea is spending a few minutes rewarding yourself with anything that nourishes your body mind or soul :):)

Susan- as you know I feel the same way about cooking so SCORE on the nummyness of your choices, AND ON the walk with a friend, and taking care of yourself with the NP !!! triple threat win! and I think we should both head to either Suzy's or Vails for dinner. well maybe not Vails today as its a fasting day.. but they are both good cooks soooooooo road trip??

its rainy and calling for t/storms here but I'm gonna head out to the lake and hope I can get in at least a quick stroll before it hits full on! I've decided to try to incorporate a reward of some kind every day; at least one good for me food, one physical good for me and one good for my soul reward! I am treating myself to some luscious strawberries and plums today, meeting an old friend for a coffee and catch up yap around noon, and I did a short healing yoga video this morning when I got up.. hope everyone has a good day being good to themselves!

All these rewards sound amazing, especially the ones requiring to be eaten. I can't think of a reward as of yet. We had a death in the family. My Hubby lost his last sibling this week . His brother had some heart issues and it just wore out. It was mostly self inflicted....a life of fooling around with things he shouldn't have, if you know what I mean.

My reward could be that I did get in a good nap today...I lay down around 8:00 am and hubby woke me up at 3:30pm!! I must have been worn out. It did keep me from eating, and I am showing a little over 2 lbs loss, but I am going to wait until Monday and see if it hangs on. I have been trying to get back into intermittent fasting. Seems to be working.

Making Turkey feta spinach burgers for dinner tomorrow. Yummm...
Snoozie, you are making great strides in your cooking. I am envious of your menu most times. The Skinnytast chicken w mushrooms and sauce.....Yummm...

    Nice rewards! Keep 'em coming!!

Gail - my deepest sympathy to you and your husband and all your family; I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your husband's last sibling; whatever struggles he may have had in life when we lose anyone in the family, the heart grieves.. sending hugs and sincere condolences..

and naps absolutely count as a reward; altho it sounds like yours was actually more a "need" than a reward. But.. your turkey feta spinach burgers sound amazingly yummy and totally healthy and good for you, so those are gonna be a lovely reward tonite!! I did have a laugh at you envying my menus occasionally - sorry its just too funny as I rarely cook and when I do its usually a disaster! But im trying to expand my horizons a wee bit and in fact, i'm going to try another stir fry tomorrow .. after suzy's post..most of the time I make them they turn out just plain.. mediocre... and its frustrating to do all that work with the chopping and only have it end up.. edible, not delish lol. But i'll roll up my sleeves and try it again!

Tonight the living arts centre is putting on a cocktails/dinner for the volunteers! They are extremely generous in how they treat their volunteers, I've only been doing it for about 3 months and this is the 2nd night out they've given us.. its a retrospective of the past 20 yrs as its the 20th anniversary of the LAC this year apparently.. anyway we get to bring a friend.. so I called a friend who used to be my manager at the bookstore; she has had a pretty hard life and has her daughter and grandkids living with her now; I know she loves em all but being thrown into the role of automatic babysitter when you're retired.. not to mention having everyone back living with her i'm sure can have its moments. So I invited her to come along; at the very least its a lovely free dinner from the fancy restaurant in the LAC, and a glass of vino hahaha. and a night out and away! Plus it will give us a chance to catch up a bit. I plan to indulge food wise, but will pig out on lots of veggies and if there is prime rib, yup i'll perhaps have a wee bit haha. But I am NOT going to do mindless eating just cause its there.. that's something I know I struggle with sometimes especially at a buffet; but there are only about 16 weeks left of this year, and I am bound and determined to be in better health this year than I was last year. I am planning to eat light during the day today to prep for the extra calories tonite tho!

I burned off a few extra calories last night cleaning the tile grout in my bathroom floor... I am somewhat mortified to say it was disgusting; its at least 25 years old and while I've cleaned it before, the grout has sunk below the tiles and.. well.. ick. I tried a couple of things from the internet; hydrogen peroxide and baking soda on one section (it did ok...but not great) and then pouring the baking soda down the lines and adding vinegar on top.. holy cow that one worked great... but now I have to do the rest of the floor in bits and pieces til its all done LOL. I can't do it for long periods as it hurts my shoulder after a bit, but the bathroom ain't that big so a few days should do it. then i'm gonna have to tackle the kitchen floor grout.. gak.. oh well at least its burning off cals haha. heading to the lake shortly, hope everyone has a good day!

My rewards for today was already spending 45 min in bed reading a few chapters with my coffee in hand (favourite way to wake up lol); and I may pick up a few peaches and some blueberries and make myself a mug crumble with steel cut oats and some nuts.. all healthy and good for me and just as important - DELISH!

i'm back.. I dunno if this link will work, but TOO funny and highly appropriate for us LOL

ended up walking 1.5 hrs at the lake as I ran into 1/2 the couple I walk with and went back for a second round with Don... not gonna lie by the time I made it back to the car I was wiped as he hoofs it faster than I do lol. I gotta say Suzy I thought of you - you must be pretty darn fit already to do those hikes of yours cause they involve so much more than the flat path I walk... so I was channelling you to get me thru this morning :)

Good Morning ladies, My condolence to you and your husband Gail, very sorry to hear of your loss.
Hi Susan, glad to see you and glad that your husband kidney is doing better.
You nailed it with that hiking Suzy.
That lake is awesome Snoozie to be able to get your exercise and intake the beauty.
I am in Atlanta, Ga on sort of a working retreat, so difficult with the careful eating I am finding myself eating food I need to stay away from and just eating half of it. That is so difficult because I was taught not to waste food. I 100 percent went over yesterday, I recorded it anyway just to stay honest with myself. I am getting alot of enjoyable reading done thanks for making us think of relaxing Snoozie that is always good.

Time spent nourishing the mind body and/or soul is just as important to our overall health Milove, so I'm glad you are making time for something that is a REWARD for you with the enjoyable reading!

I can totally feel for you being in an environment surrounded by food and eating more just because it's there.. I went over last night at the dinner too.. I ate a little bit of everything lol.. cause it was yummy and while there was lots that was good and healthy (the salmon, greens, etc) I also had a spoonful of the pasta and the roast potatoes and i'm fine with it - I ended up doing a double walk at the lake again today running into that couple I walk with sometimes.. so I figure i'm good lol. But I find it very hard when surrounded by food NOT to eat just cause its there Milove.. so I feel for you. And the "children are starving in Africa" was drilled into me about not wasting food either.. so I can relate to the feeling. But it's okay to think about whats best for YOU right now too... don't stress too much over it while you are on the retreat; maybe just decide you will pick only one or two things a day that are perhaps slightly less healthy or good for you and focus the rest of the meals loading up with things you LIKE and know are you good for you.. a middle ground so to speak so you can enjoy and still feel good about what you're putting into you!

I have found a yummy 3 minute healthy brekkie that is fast, yummy and filling.. I sautéed onions, mushrooms and peppers in some veg broth yesterday (cause that's all I had lol), and grated a wee bit of light old cheddar into a baggie (about half full) and froze it..

this morning after my walk I tossed some of the OM&P into a wee frying pan on high for 1 minute to warm it up, then broke an egg over it with a few drops of hot sauce, flipped it over and sprinkled a few strands of cheese to melt, then nuked a smart sense tortilla for 10 seconds, threw it all in and chowed down. Very filling and got 3 veggies in and so yummers and FAST lol. And I made enough for brekkie for at least 3 days (after which I will need a change lol) but def having everything already ready made having a warm filling brekkie in less than 3 min a total score!

Rewarded myself with some lovely peaches for today's lunch at work, and picked up the stuff for tomorrow's stir fry... gonna have a few challenging days where I will have to buy my lunch so will leave a bit early and stop at the grocery for a pre made salad rather than ordering in with the boys!

Rock on hatters! Keep up those daily rewards of food that you love and is good for you, as well as some kind of reward for the mind or soul!!

Many Thanks to you all for you well wishes. It is always tough, but when you throw dysfunctional family members in his immediate family that don't get along( ex wives, so called fiancé, children from different marriages....ugh!) it is catastrophic! So it is a relief to have it finally over.

I have slept more than ever, so that is my reward again...got up at 11:30 today . It also rewards me in that I am not mindlessly snacking, so I claimed the weight I have been seeing on the scale lately......I just have to make sure I keep up with the healthy , smaller portions to keep it so and keep it lowering. I just may be able to see One-derland this year! What a reward that will be!!!

Milove ,the retreat sounds like a bit of a relaxing time for you ,glad you're finding time to read. Awesome!! The extra food can be worked off...

Snoozie, the brekki burrito does sound yummy. I adore OM&P mixed into ground sausage (the patty type) and put into a burrito or on a tortilla as a pizza w/ a bit of mozz. cheese to hold it on..
huge kudo's on getting in the extra time walking and sounds like the walking couple is good company. That makes the walking so much better and not a chore to have to get done.

Speaking of chores, I have to get started ...I had taken 2 days off to do a bit since everyone would be at school or working and then that happened. I get 3 days off for bereavement, so I need to get it done now.....fingers crossed, you know how much I hate trying to figure out where to put things , being a beginning hoarder. ugh!!
