Morning, Snoozie!! I feel 'ya on the scale. I haven't weighed, but I can tell by my jeans that I am up about 10-12 lbs by now. I can't get my head in the game. I try to eat everything that is cooked at Dinner....all the processed carbs . We cook more with 5 of us around the house. And I am back to my overeating ....

I feel your frustration Snoozie! I'm still trying to get to my last logged weight, too. I'm usually up a pound or two the day after our long weekend hikes (I have no idea HOW that is possible) but today I as actually down about half a pound. So that was encouraging but I've still got four pounds until I'm at my logged weight. Ugh! Hang in there and keep on keeping on! I'm going to the gym today so that I'm moving my "kitten?" more. Hahaha!

    Have a great week Hatters!

Gail, that has got to be so hard!!! I have a terrible time sticking to my plan when I'm thrown off my routine or if I'm in a big group where everyone else is eating whatever they want. All I can suggest is to make sure you have plenty of healthy options on the table and don't let yourself get too hungry before you sit down to a table full of food that you find hard to resist. Easier said than done...I know. Good luck girl...you can do this!!!

Thanks, Suzy......it just comes down to my doing it... I'm trying to remember how I was able to do it in the beginning.... and it was because it was just me and Hubby...I wasn't cooking regular meals.... I find it hard to turn down home made buttermilk corn bread w lima beans ..... Gotta' do sumpin' though. : )

I've gone the other way - I was losing, and now I've crept back up to my previous maintenance weight. Well, one of the points of losing extra was to allow me some leeway so that a gain didn't matter so much, but I didn't expect to regain so quickly. I need to get back on track. Tomorrow - lol!

Hi Milove lovely to see you - hope all is well in your world!

Gail - I had to laugh at the lima beans because that's the ONLY vegetable I absolutely hate.. I cant even eat one the texture just makes me crazy let alone the taste... so I was thinking hey I should move in with you - but then I saw the cornbread which is a big love of mine so any calories i'd save NOT eating the lima beans would be doubled by scarfing down the cornbread :(

and I have to agree with Suzy having any number of people whether visiting or living with you makes eating well or eating less insanely hard - so I totally feel for you!!! The only thing I can think of that might help you find your mojo is to remember how hard you have worked and how far you have come - all the wonderful strides you have made in making changes from old habits to new - I know any regain sucks; having flunked maintenance and regained so much weight myself I can totally relate. I'm using the memory of how great I felt at the lower weight to motivate me right now - that's what I want back its not the # of pounds its getting back to where I feel comfortable in my body. There are good days and not so good days for sure - and i'll keep my paws crossed you can find what ya need to get you back on track my friend..

Vail you hit the nail on the head with the SPEED in which those friggin pounds come back.. omg seriously it is so unfair!! Thankful you lost that extra for the leeway now but totally agree it takes nothing more than looking at chocolate to load up the scale :(

Suzy - thrilled the post hike scale finally took a turn to the left!!! and yep i'm right with ya.. i'm still about 4.5 lbs away from my current logged weight but I absolutely refuse to move that ticker up.. that sucker is gonna stay where it is until I get to it... the only way its gonna go is down from here on in!!

Susan - hope all is well in your world; miss seeing your face (as such!)

Did my walk at the lake this morning and plan to enjoy my 2 days off - altho I can't avoid the chores forever.. hmmmm if only I could relate laundry and scrubbing toilets to food..... maybe that would keep me out of the feedbag??

then again I am going to put this on my cupboard after I print it out at work on Thursday - an excellent reminder to me personally!

Hahaaha....... Snoozie, I even fry okra and eat with my lima beans...... Are we talking about the same lima beans(aka. butter beans ,here in the south).... small ,petite ,baby green lima beans...not those big frickin' honkers some people like......ugh! those are horrible!

I did better last night I got small amounts of everything and ate slowly.......except I had to go back for another homemade Salisbury steak.....in my defense ,she made them very small...
and I usually do very good at work keeping my carbs low......So IAPOT( I am proud of that) : )

I need to print it out also to put along side this one I have up:
Type 2 is a lifestyle disease so change your lifestyle for the better or diabetes will change it for the worse.

Vailara, I can relate to how slow the weight leaves and how fast it comes back and usually brings friends along with it! ...and they come prepared to stay !!

Hi, milove! Hot an muggy with a side of hot, down your way?
Hello ,Susan! I know it's HOT up and over there!!

Hi there Hatters! Sorry I've been so MIA. Enjoyed catching up with the posts and all the IPOM moments.
Gail- I definitely need to move in with you along with Snoozie because I can't stand lima beans or cornbread! I didn't know there were different kinds of lime beans, but you wont catch me near any of them lol. I do completely sympathize with you about trying to keep on track while cooking for and eating with 4 other peeps. That is a tough one, for sure. Sounds like you are getting a handle on it, though so good for you!
Snooozie- Love the poster. I find that kind of thinking extremely helpful. I remember in the beginning of this journey whenever I would see a candy bar, like every time I check out at a counter, I would lust after it, but then I would tell myself that I would rather keep my eyesight, or my feet, or my organs than have a candy bar. Sounds kind of gross and drastic, but it worked! I am grateful that so many of my former unhealthy habits don't tempt me as much as they used to, and I actually feel kind of sick if I eat unhealthy foods, which is good motivation to stay away. But I still have my temptations, like ice cream during this hot season, which I have given in to. Interestingly, I was craving some the other night, but noticed when I drank some really cold water it took the craving away, so I think I'm really just craving the coldness of it. I feel ya about the trying to get back to your last logged in weight.
Vail- I so so agree with you at how frustrating it is to regain so quickly those pounds that took so long to come off! Argh! It seems so unfair! I keep having to remind myself that this is a lifestyle change , not just a diet, which means I need to ALWAYS monitor what I consume. I do resist that idea sometimes, though. It's a bit of a process I guess.
Suzy Q- hope you worked out your calorie thing and have more stamina. I definitely get weak., low on energy, and dizzy if I don't eat enough calories. Your hikes sound amazing, and so do you! I can only hike about 3 miles round trip at a time, especially in the mountains with the elevation, so I go out for a short 2- 3 mile hike a few times a day when we go up to a cabin on Mount Lemmon.
Hi Milove- hope all is well with you.

Well, going to get going and head off the Udall Rec Center where the indoor tread mill is. Tuesday is usually my yoga day, but I'm waiting for some sinus issues I've been experiencing to clear up for that. It's funny how when I walk with other people the walk goes so fast, but, when I am by myself, it's boring walking around in circles indoors, and it goes so much slower. Today I am on my own, so I guess my IPOM is that I am going to go anyway and do the full 18 laps even though I get bored doing it alone.

Hope everyone is having a terrific Tuesday!

PS. The Monsoons have finally arrived, bringing some awesome storms and lots of rain which helped tremendously in putting out a nearby fire in the mountain that had been raging for a week. Now we just cross our fingers that the lightening doesn't start any new fires! But you gotta just LOVE the rain and cooler temps!!!

Those are some awesome pictures, Seehe. Did you take them? WE were worried about being in the wrong place at the wrong time when we were out there a couple of years ago , because of the flash floods and how quickly they can come....

Hahaha... I really think you girls have eaten the wrong beans!! ....I know I could cook the type I am talking about and convert you all .......lol You come to visit when I retire along with Snoozie and you will leave a lima bean lover m1244.gif.....lol

Glad you enjoyed the pics Gail. I didn't take those , although I enjoy photography and have always been interested in taking shots of our monsoon storms with their lightening shows. And you are absolutely correct- those flash floods are dangerous. A friend told me just yesterday that an entire family was swept away in their car by one the other day and they all died. You really do need to take the long summers (Mid May through mid October) seriously here and respect the weather!

Ditto on the yukkiness (I know that's not really a word but it's accurate) of lima beans. :s My mom grew up in small town south Alabama and would make turnip greens, beans, black eye peas and cornbread. Me, being the bread lover that I am, only ate the cornbread. I still can't stand beans of any kind except green beans.

I heard about a family being swept away in a flash flood on the national news. So incredibly sad. Be careful out there!

The scale has been moving just a bit and I'm feeling in control so it makes sense that I'm going to the beach next week so that I can blow it. It's a girl's trip and I can't wait! I just need to come up with some strategies to not completely blow it.

    Snooozie Posts: 3,470 Member
Well, I could eat an entire bowl of turnip greens all by myself Suzy LOL.... my mom was from Nfld and it was a staple growing up.... and I still love them although you can't buy them here anymore :( and I wouldn't turn down the side of cornbread!

YAY on the scale moving - woo to the hoo!! Just do a lot of beach walks and paddling or swimming while you're on the girls retreat - and remember that R&R and connecting with our friends is a hugely important part of our overall wellbeing too!

My IPOM today is that I stepped up my pace at the lake this morning, and watched my posture; gut sucked in, back and shoulders straight. I'm back to work tomorrow and have a doc apt in the morning so I am going to have to buy my lunch and dinner tomorrow as no way will anything keep in the heat even in a cooler in the car - so i'm thinking a quick stop for a pre made salad with chicken might have to do.. I can bring an orange and a banana in the car and a protein bar but I want to stay on track to get that scale moving even just a bit by Sunday!

Susan - lovely to see you and gorgeous pics!! holy cow...

Gail - I know I PM'd you but im confessing to the whole group that I am totally gonna steal that line you used for my other cupboard... having those up worked before and the one you quoted really struck home - and I have a lot of cupboards so lots of room LOL..

I put off most of my chores this week to be out playing in the sunshine but today is my last day off so I can't avoid them any longer.. its supposed to rain this aft and clear tonite so I may try to get in another trot down at the lake after supper to keep my face outta the feedbag!

    Have a good day hatters!!

Snooozie- what lovely photos and how serene. Thanks for sharing. Nice job on watching your posture while walking. Hope all goes well at your doc appointment.

Suzy and Gail - I misspoke- the family that was recently swept away had been hiking at Tonto National Park and were in a well known swimming hole when they were suddenly swept away by an unexpected flash flood. Truly a tragedy. The car incident was something else . Gail- I'm not sure when you were out here , but the flash floods are generally during the monsoon season, so no worries the rest of the time.

Well I didn't make it to Udall to walk yesterday , but I will today. I also need to run to the store and pick up something for a couple of healthy dinners. I've had popcorn for dinner the last couple of nights which has been fun but not the healthiest lol. So back to protein and veggies.

Wishing all Hatters a thrilling Thursday !

What a beautiful lake to have at your disposal for walking! I wish I could force myself to get up early enough for a walk. I'm going to really try to do that at the beach next week. Good for you for being conscious of your posture, Snoozie! I find myself doing that and then forgetting and then straightening up and then forgetting again. If anyone is walking behind me they must be thinking that I have issues! Ha!

Susan, I saw that story about the family....so tragic! I can't imagine. We're planning a hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, stay a couple nights and then back up for my husband's 60th next year. They say not to go in July/August because of the heat and the monsoon type storms. They had me at heat...but monsoon??? No thank you!

I can't take credit for getting up early to walk suzy - since I don't sleep much im usually up very early anyway and since there are very few people out on the path then it's a lovely quiet and peaceful time to get it done lol.

The scale is moving a wee bit closer to my logged weight this morning; but knowing the fluctuation that happens naturally im not doing the happy feet dance yet - maybe just wiggling my toes a bit in hope LOL..

suzy wowsa awesome trip plan for hubbys birthday!! woo to the hoo!! LOL @ the image of the straightening.. i'm kinda the same so imagine I get a few weird looks along the way too! great idea about trying to get in some beach walks next week, walking in sand is harder than on gravel or paths too so extra bonus points!!! and walking on the beach is a little more enjoyable - specially with a Spanish coffee in hand early in the morning lol!

    have a good day hatters!

I just don't get it. I've stayed at my calorie goal all week, walked my three miles every night, and I'm up a pound and a half this morning. It's times like these where I just want to throw in the towel and eat whatever I want....but I know that won't solve anything. If I do that then I'll just gain and have to lose the same weight all over again. That's how I got into this mess to start with. I'm so frustrated though!!!! Ugh!!! I'm going to up my water intake and stay the course. The scale has to go down eventually.

Suzy PM sent.. we all feel for ya, the frustration level can be insane but you are doing everything right and the woosh factor will happen because you are being consistent - as soon as your body figures out you're serious it will start showing the results you have worked so hard at... which doesn't help right now I know but YOU WILL see the results... hang in !!!!!

tried to come back and continue my post but passed the allowable edit time so will just continue here!

had a lovely walk at the lake.. my IPOM today is I ran into 2 tourists on the path right by where those beautiful tree carvings are.. and I stopped and said good morning... have you seen the carvings up there on the hill? they kinda looked at me weird lol but I said if you have time and haven't seen them its worth the little 30 second walk up the rise ...and to go look at the back of the trees.. and then I just carried on... I looked back and saw them heading up there.. and ran into them on the way back and they called to me and said omg thank you so much we took so many pictures yada yada lol... so I was happy I added to their day!

then I stopped at the farmers market and loaded up on veggies and fruit... and there is NO truth to the rumour that a cinnamon scone ended up in my bags.. ok there was but I still allow myself occasional treats and I made sure to wait long enough to scramble an egg with it to lessen the carb load from it.. and I only ate the top half LOL.. oh wait no there is no truth to that rumour... so disregard lol

I did score at the market.. I found these tiny "one bite" sweet peppers!! I saw them and assumed they were hot peppers due to the size but the sign said sweet peppers.. I didn't believe him so the guy gave me one to try.. and they are indeed sweet red, yellow an orange peppers.. but tiny ones like one bite brownies!! I ate 3 on the way home... and for one person they are just perfect cause I can use one of each and just enough for a stir fry or to add to my scrambled eggs or with onions.. an no waste like from a big one... so I was super excited - hmmm seems kinda weird I get excited about a pepper... I may need help LOL

the scale is slowly nudging back towards my logged weight.. and by slowly I mean an ounce at a time but its still moving so i'll take it... i have no pride.. ill take an ounce LOLOL.

need to get off my butt and prep some of those veg for my work lunch tonite... im gonna take a bit of ranch dip to dip the peppers in for snackage too! have a good weekend Hatters!

here are my peppers - aren't they cute??
that's a little soup bowl they are in to get an idea of the size.. altho relating them to a one bite brownie also works hahahah

Suzy -boy oh boy can I relate to your scale frustrations. Good for you for still staying the course! One thing that seems to help me in breaking a plateau is upping my protein percentage in case you are interested.

Snooozie - how kind of you to add pleasure to someone else's day. What a great IPOM moment. As far as the peppers go, I have to admit I can't imagine snacking on peppers lol, but they do look cute :) Good for you for stocking up on fruits and veggies and adding a protein to your not true rumored treat. Happy for you that your scale is moving in the right direction and heck ya ounces count !

Hi Ho Hi Ho it's off to Hacienda Del Sol I go for a little staycation weekend with my hubby.. My goal is to thoroughly enjoy their delicious food and beverage BUT practice portion control. I was worried about the monsoons ruining my pool time , but Mother Nature has been kind and there are no storms predicted for today at least, giving the first break in storms in the last two weeks. Here are some photos of where I will be lounging about for your viewing pleasure :)

Oh. My. Gosh, Susan! That is gorgeous!!! I'm completely jealous and I hope the weather cooperates for you. Have a wonderful time!

Snoozie, I've had those peppers and they are indeed delicious! Just FYI, I don't know if you can get this where you live but I'm hooked on Bolthouse salad dressing. They're made with Greek yogurt and are in the refrigerated section at the store.

I went over my calories by 60 today so we're heading out for our three mile nightly walk. We usually take Saturday off because we hike on Sunday but I'm feeling energized so we're going for it. I'll probably regret it in about 30 minutes when the heat and humidity has me melting into my shoes!

    Btw, I absolutely LOVE scones!

    Morning Hatters!

just a quick note forgot a lot of events and road closures today so have to leave way early for work, but I was channeling you this morning Suzy - thinking of your post about your walk after dinner when its normally a skip it night for you... I was NOT feeling it this morning, tired and it was cloudy .. I eventually dragged myself down there but on the way decided I would just do the 15 min around the park.. then when I got there I thot ok i'll go to the next garbage can to dump my coffee cup.. then I got there and thot ok ill just go to the first bench and chill for a while. which I did.. gorgeous breeze I had my eyes closed and thot oh oh im gonna fall asleep lol... so then I thot ok i'll just go across the path as well and then turn around... and then I ran into a couple I walk with occasionally - lovely people.. and they were like oh join us we haven't seen you in ages.. omg... so I did the whole damn route and back again with them.... LOL.. i'm not sure I ever made it to "energized" like you were feeling, but I did think of you and kept on hoofing!

Gail im gonna print those posters today for my cupboards!

Susan - I am picturing you in the Adirondack chair with a glass in hand.. and 99% of me is very happy.. the other 1% is pure jealous side LOL

Vail and Milove hope all is well in yur world... gotta get my butt in gear cause I still gotta cook up chicken and veg to take in.. have a good day Hatters !!

    Morning!
Snoozie, Very good to go to walk for at least a short walk. I know from experience that it is so easy to just say....."uh no, not gonna do it"....Totally awesome on making the whole trip 2 times!! It shows it really helps to have someone to walk and talk with.

Susan, Awesome!!! ....... that is my dream vacation to stay at a place that lovely. I know you both will have a wonderful time!!

Suzy, you and your husband are my heroes. You may not be dropping any lbs like you would want , but I know you must have the healthiest muscles, lungs ,heart .... and the weight will start to fall off.

Snoozie, I love those sweet peppers. We split them open and stuff a mixture of cream cheese, green onions, and bacon into it and wrap it in bacon and grill or bake.. Yum!

Heading out for an outing with my little g-baby . She is so excited about going somewhere to eat. We are no relation by blood, but I swear she is just like me... She worries about not having enough to eat if it doesn't look like a lot, I was always that way. I am trying to show her that she will be full....

Hope you all have a great week.

Gail you're absolutely killing me oh my God I never would've thought of that now it's all I can think about!!' Ha ha the only thing saving me is that I don't have a barbeque and at the moment I don't have cream cheese or bacon or green onion either but it's all I'm gonna think about at work

Way to go on the completed walk, Snoozie! Feeling energized doesn't matter when you complete it anyway!

OMG!!! You're killing us with the cream cheese and bacon, Gail!! I think I gained a pound just now salivating and thinking about how yummy that would be!

Today's long hike almost did me in. It was supposed to be a moderate few miles and ended up being the hike from hell! Seriously! It was 94 degrees but the heat index put it at 104!!!!! The inclines were brutal and it just completely drained me of all my energy. I really thought I was gonna have to head back down the other side and have my husband figure out how to get to that parking area to pick me up after he completed the hike. I was struggling....bad!!! IPOM for finally finishing but I had a terrible headache and know that I was on the verge of heat exhaustion. Scary! My husband kept saying that I needed to weigh when we got home because he was positive that I had lost at least a couple pounds. Hahaha! Foolish man!!! I gained a pound from my pre-breakfast weight. Whatever. I'm having pizza for dinner. I'm too exhausted to cook. So there.
