Happy belated Canada Day!! Sorry for being MIA...we're on our way back home from the family reunion in Kansas City. We had a wonderful time and I overindulged but I'm ready to get back home and back on track. I feel motivated and want to capitalize on that!

I'll check back in when I'm back and settled! Happy 4th of July Hatters!

    (Stay cool Seehe!)

Morning Hatters - and happy 4th of July to my lovely friends down the road! (I prefer that to across the border lol). Hope you all have a wonderful day celebrating your great country's birthday!

Susan - huge IPOM on continuing the walking in spite of the heat and the physical probs - am glad the treatments are working and also well done on the better eating; I can relate on the portion sizes, I've been doing better with choices but alas, struggling with the portion and some mindless eating that has worked its way in, like Gail i'm finding occasional boredom is one of the most difficult times not to head for something to stuff in my face..

Suzy! So happy to hear the reunion was fabulous and you had a wonderful time!! I think it would be unrealistic for any of us not to over indulge during special occasions, and the fact you're pumped and motivated to get back to your plan shows us how it realy should be IMO.. the ability to have a few days of indulgence, and then just get right back into our preferred healthy eating ... I didn't drink a lot at our celebrations (only because I had to drive home!) but I did eat my way through all the offerings... i'm working away at getting it off but waiting til my weight gets back to my last logged numbers before i will get to see any new loss - but i know it won't be long before i can finally see that sucker move lol!

I tried a new class at the rec centre; my joints were hurting yesterday so i didn't feel up to bouncing around at a Zumba class, so i took a therapeutic water class called "oh my aching body" LOL.. it was a one hour class in warm water and it was quite good; i didn't think i would need to use my shoulder a lot just to keep myself afloat - or from floating into someone else while doing the exercises but so far, so good! i scaled back on some of the arm moves here and there, but it was a great leg workout under the water so my IPOM is i made my goal of moving my parts in some way yesterday! An I've been getting my walks in every day as I'm still on vacation... speaking of which i better get my butt in gear and head down there today!

oh and i'm trying to go meatless at dinner at least 2x a week; last night i just sautéed a bunch of veggies in water, (6 veg - yay) then broke up about 8 strands of spaghetti into 3 pieces and cooked that, then tossed it all together... it was darn good and reminded me i do love veggies and didn't miss the meat at all. I think i'm gonna have to google some vegetarian meals for some ideas.

righto.. i'm off to the lake... look forward to the updates after the holiday!

Great job Snoozie, I love that IPOM, and I will echo Suzy, Happy Belated Canada Day, Enjoy the lake!

    And Happy July 4th,

My IPOM today is that I gave up breakfast and coffee (However, it's the same it's not breakfast if I don't have my coffee lol) so that I could overindulge lunch/dinner made it into one meal.

:s I got on the scale this morning....it's sooooooo not good. I'm angry at myself for letting it get this far out of control. Okay. New start, renewed commitment, focus on the positives!!! I have three weeks before my beach trip and twelve weeks before my Appalachian Trail hike and Maine trip. I'm more worried about the hike. I've got to focus!!!! IPOM for just stepping on that scale!

I know it sounds lame but IPOM for sticking with it for the past two days and absolutely rockin' it! I even walked both evenings and completed my three miles when it started raining halfway through.

How did your appointment go, Carol?

I hope everyone is doing well!

Suzy - if I was allowed to edit posts I would have removed that "L" word you used (5 words in!) Sticking with and rocking it PLUS walking is an awesome IPOM... !!!!!! remember how important it is to not only be kind to ourselves but to focus on and recognize the GOOD things we do for ourselves, so I say huge congrats and I will just pretend not to see that four letter word you obviously inadvertently used, right?? LOLOL

My IPOM's for this week include taking my senior friend on a day trip out for her 89th birthday on Wed; stopped at a lot of fruit/veg stands and flower stands then lunch out - she was a happy camper and we both had a very nice time as there were no chores just fun.

Thursday's IPOM I did another water class, this one called posture/core/and something else lol. a LOT of core work and loved the posture focus which is something I really need as a lot of my shoulder/neck pain outside the tear is apparently from bad posture. I am considering a 3 month membership to the rec centre; if I can do 2 classes a week it would be cheaper to get a membership than pay as you go, but I wanted to try a few classes first to make sure I can both do them, and that the availability works with my shifts.

Friday's IPOM.. well I've only been up for 30 minutes... nothing yet!

I have been doing my walks every day at the lake but I start dayshift tomorrow for a week so am gonna miss those early morning strolls for a bit...

The scale is still not moving but I am definitely eating better- more veggies and fruit and trying to eat more at lunch an less at dinner time - still fighting the evening boredom eating; some days I win, others not lol.

Off to the lake before the rain comes today..... will check in later!

Excellent IP moment, Suzy!! ...it could have been so easy to quit when it rained.

IPOU Snoozie ,every time I read about your trips with your friend. You make me wish I could go along with you both sometime. So many people never give an elderly person a second thought. They must not realize they are heading there 60 seconds a minute.........and Karma is a Bi#@#!!

IPOM for bypassing a second breakfast here at work and going into the gym and getting in my bike HIIT session...

You're absolutely correct Snoozie! I shouldn't have used that word. I should be proud without qualification. We are always so much harder on ourselves than we are on others. I love that you spend time with your senior friend. It sounds like you both get a lot out of your friendship.

I've had a good deal of pain in my neck/upper back for years now. I talked with a physical therapist friend last week and she was shocked at how tight all those muscles are. She told me that I've got to concentrate on my posture! I thought it was from an old whiplash injury but she said that I need to be aware of and correct my posture. She also recommended tying two tennis balls in a sock and laying on my back with it at the top of my neck. This is a self traction type thing. Hopefully it will help.

Way to go Gail on passing up 2nd breakfast and going to the gym! You're doing great!

Have a great weekend everyone! We're planning to hit the farmer's market on Saturday and go hiking in the mountains on Sunday....assuming we actually get some dryer weather!

lmao @ your pic Suzy - me too!!

Gail- spectacular IPOM'S both!!! woo to the hoo .. WELL DONE!!!!!!

Suzy - my PT said exactly the same thing; that outside of the tear in my shoulder, much of my neck/shoulder pain all the time is from posture related problems.. my neck "turtles" forward as do most who sit at a puter all day for decades, and the muscles have lengthened and shortened in the wrong places. and my shoulders hunch forward and as she explained, when your shoulders are not in its proper position because of poor posture, the muscles ligaments and tendons all have to work overtime to hold em up there in the wrong spot lol.. anyway, I have 1/2 a dozen neck exercises and posture exercises I have to do at home every day; my particular fav is called sniffing your pits - yu turn your head to the right, then try to put your nose in your pit and hold it for 20 seconds.. then repeat on the other side.. there is a marked difference in both sides one can go much further than the other.. LOL..

I wont go into the posture ones, BUT I will say one thing that has made a big diff at work and at home, is a small soft foam roller type things.. its about a foot long.. and it technically supposed to be one of those things you put at your lower back to keep you sitting straight, but that doesn't work for me.. way too uncomfortable.. so my PT has me put it vertically behind me instead, with the top arund the shoulder blade and the bottom near the waist.. so it runs up and down behind me. whether I am on the couch at home, or the chair at work, its great because as soon as I lean forward, it falls down LOL... so it really helps you stay seated straight and isn't uncomfortable at all. I can't use it for a whole shift which she said is perfectly normal, its gonna take time to retrain everything back to the right way... but the last 3 PT sessions she has worked strictly on my neck, not my shouder an it hurts like a son of a *kitten*.. I had no idea how tight everything was either so I really hope you get some relief from the PT and the tennis balls lol...

Thanks Snoozie. When you have some time I'd love a private message with the posture exercises. I'm tired of living with this pain.

I have a question for you, Hatters. Today I went hiking, as usual, but I found that a trail I've hiked twice before with the usual struggle really did me in! It was a challenging uphill for about 3/4 of a mile and I'm usually out of breath but can make it with a couple catch my breath stops. I was having to stop a lot and sweating more than usual and was even a bit shaky and dizzy. I ate a jerky stick the a few minutes later I stopped and ate a nut Kind bar for the protein and sugar. I was drinking plenty of water, too. Anyway...I pushed on and reached the summit (stunning view!) and decided to go further. The plan all along was to hike about three more miles in that direction. The trail kind of leveled off and then had a slight decline so I decided to press on. We had stopped for lunch and I was feeling better. On the way back (I didn't push for three miles..just went about two) I felt like my usual self.

So, here's the question: I've been sticking to about 1200 calories a day since Wednesday when we got back from Kansas City. Is it possible that eating that little had a long term effect on me? Have you had this happen? I wanted to jumpstart my weight loss by eating less calories for a couple weeks but I've never felt so weak and shaky because of it. I find it hard to believe that just four days of 1200 calories would have that drastic effect. I did feel better after lunch and ate some of my hiking calories back at dinner.

I'm just curious if any of you have experienced this?

I honestly don't know, Suzy! I've sometimes had times when things aren't "right", and as you say, getting out of breath, sweating, dizzy. In fact I had a spell like that yesterday, even though I wasn't doing anything more than I would normally do. There's so many things it could be, like low iron, etc. I don't know about the calories. I've been dong fasting for a while now, and I feel fine on days when I'm not eating, so temporarily cutting calories doesn't affect me, personally. But I suppose cutting back a lot every day could build up over the days, and your body could be protesting? I wish I knew! I hope it doesn't happen for you again.

    HI GUYS!

sorry been MIA.. would you freaken believe I got hit with GOUT on Saturday ..... happened SO fast and so painful.. by sunday had to leave work to go to a walk in clinic to find out what was going on... and when they said gout I was like umm excuse me isn't that the old man disease? or the disease of kings as it used to be known as its usually considered a result of indulgent lifestyle - wine, red meat, sweets only kings could afford to it....

I said i'm not a little old man! omggggggggg but apparently now, post menopausal women are getting it because your body stop producing estrogen which can increase the uric acid in your body causing the joint to calcify... I was like omg you have to be kidding me.....

anyway gave me pills which thankfully worked within 2 days and I am mobile without agony again lol.. but starvinggggggg just home from work so promise will pop in after dinner and catch up!!

I saw a quick IPOM above from suzy.. TOTAL ipom for the no bingeing!

Oh no, Snoozie!!! That sounds awful! Something else to look forward to I guess. Menopause...the gift that keeps giving!

I've been sticking to my calorie goal and walking every night and in the last five days the scale has not moved one ounce. I went tubing on the river with my daughter today, ate a bit more dinner than I should and even had a small piece of fudge. I'll probably be up two pounds tomorrow. My husband just says that I need to exercise more and that will solve everything. Aaaaaarrrrggghhh!!!!!!! I'm so freaking frustrated!!! I refuse to give up though.

suzy - remember we are supposed to be able to lose weight without any exercise (technically) the 80% food, 20% exercise theory being what maeks it happen.. but I can TOTALLY relate with wht you're saying as i'm trying to do the same.. stick to the 1200 and move more and NOTHING is happening... frustrated is the word all right!! right now I am praying that as long as I KEEP doing it at some point it has to start happning ... so fingers crossed for you too and yes hang in there girl!!

also sent a PM re the hike symptoms ...!!

now that dayhift is finally over i'm hoping to get back to some of the water classes; had a nice walk at the lake last night to de stress.. a meander really.. and this morning had a lovely walk too.. tonite am working at dance competition at the living arts centre which should not only be fun but lots of walkies there too.. but today also taking some R&R time to just chill with a book for an hour.. me time just as important to my overall health!!

A dance competition sounds like fun to watch!

Keep in mind Pizza still has some benefits as well the tomato sauce has lipoteon or something that's good for us and I'm pretty sure there's probably a veggie in there and cheese is a protein so mixed in with the carbohydrate crust I say it can be not a bad choice on occasion my friend and does not qualify as NPOM lol.

Suzy, I agree with Snoozie, it shouldn't be a NPOM .....for me I know pizza is gonna always be a part of my life. but I don't eat it but 1 or 2 times a month, if that much....so it's not bad...I could eat it every day!! I love it!

Snoozie, sounds like fun , the dance competition. Enjoy your me time Reading!

My only IPOM post is that I got the kitchen floor mopped this morning around 1:00 am while I was watching a movie on lifetime that had 45 minutes of commercials and 15 minutes of movie every hour!! lol

Hope you all have a great weekend!

lol thanks for the commiserations on the gout.... thankfully the meds kicked in fast but NOT something I enjoyed-an I've decided I will be one of those it only ever happens to once !! haaaaaaaaa

My IPOM this morning was when I stopped at our local donut shop to get my usual coffee after the lake.. those calorie counts showing on everything now are actually becoming a bonus.. I was hungry and knew I didn't have much at home grocery wise... but I started looking for the smallest thing on there... there was NOTHING below 600 cals.. and that was the supposed "healthy choice" of a wrap with the egg and tomato and bacon .. not to mention how much sodium is in there.. so I just got my coffee an came home and made a toasted ham and cheese sammich for brekkie..yes it probably had as many calories, but I used home made bread, free from nitrates ham and low fat cheese... plus it was free lol.. so that's my IPOM!

IPOM for drinking the nasty electrolyte stuff for my hike today and being able to do the six mile (3 miles straight up/3miles straight down) hike without wimping out.

Way to go, turning down those donuts Snoozie! I, too, love all the restaurants displaying the calories nowadays. It really makes you think twice and make better choices.

yayyyyyyyyyyy suzy!! I saw your hike on the main forum logged and wondered how it went!! and on getting the nasty down lol. I think there are some good tasting drinks out there I think - like maybe Gatorade for electroytes? I remember my mom pushing apple juice on me when I was sick to keep my electrolytes in balance .. I think lol... but hopefully you can find something a little better tasting that will help keep ya going - super job!!
