Proud of me moment- increasing my activity in spite of our RIDICULOUS temps. Went to yoga Tuesday and walked in circles at the air conditioned indoor track at Udall Park with a friend (who is also my yoga instructor) Wednesday Thursday and Friday and have plans to do it with her tomorrow as well .i normally get so bored walking inside in circles, but it's fun with a friend and makes me accountable. Also down one pound this week . Admittedly, it would likely have been 2 pounds if I hadn't enjoyed happy hour yesterday , but what the heck, a girls gotta have fun , too, right ?

Susan - SO exciting to see an "IPOM" post again!!! and what a great IPOM - WELL DONE you!! very impressed u rocked the walking inside and had fun too - and on the LOSS!! woo hoo - congrats my friend and think it would be great if we made this next week a week of IPOMs for everyone!! YAY YOU!3
-
Thanks Snooozie I think it would be great to make the upcoming week an IPOM week as well - go hatters!1

Good for you Susan, I heard on the news that they are canceling some flights to Arizona because of the extreme heat. What did our parents do back in the day when there was no air condition? I remember being very young and we had one fan in the kitchen and at night we use to open the kitchen window and sit out on the fire escape.
I am a little concern we have a tropical storm heading our way waiting to hear if it is upgrading. Also going for my blood work this morning.0 -
Milove - as kids my parents had one fan and it was in their bedroom as they both worked shifts... we were allowed to go to bed in there at night and then get moved to our own beds at some point LOL... and now that I think about it, on extremely hot nights my mom would sprinkle a little corn starch on our sheets... i'm not sure why I think it help absorb sweat and make us feel cooler? I never remember waking up feeling like gravy (which is the only thing I use cornstarch for now!) so I guess it did something lol
good luck with the blood tests and the doc visit... and that the storm takes a downgrade before it gets to you! hoping all turns out well!0 -
Keep us posted Milove. I'm sending good thoughts your way! It's one of those situations where you want an answer but you want it to be something easily fixable. Good luck!1
-
You Almost had me ROFL at the gravy, Snoozie!
Best wishes Milove for the test and especially the tropical storm..... Y'all need no more water!
Susan....sending cool thoughts your way......I am burning up over here and we just started getting higher temps 80 -90's ..... just the humidity is our problem.
IPOM moment for me is that I am holding steady at the weight I am now( which is 21 lbs away from my 1st goal....) With the way I like to eat ......It could have jumped back to my starting weight for this year soooooo quickly....now to get into losing mode again...
Suzy!!! A 250 mile hike!!! Is that your longest or is that baby steps for a seasoned hiker? Much admiration for you.
Bye now.
Happy day to you all!!

250 mile HIKE???
DID I read that right???
I actualy scrolled back thru the posts cause I culdnt believe I had missed THAT... ?
I know you're doing the Appalachian hike in a about 3 months.. but it's 250 miles?
I think im gonna faint...
Gail HUGE IPOM indeed that's fabulous girl !!!!!! well done on maintaining!! my scale aint moving but im still working hard on eating better and eating less! Flying off to work; only 2 shifts left and 10 days vacation... and yes i'm counting the hours LOL2 -
I'm sorry, I have been MIA and just catching up - just a mixture of being busy and distracted, and not realising that there were updates here!
Best of luck with your appointment tomorrow, Milove.

Susan - your weather actually made our news this morning..... I DID cringe however when our silly weather woman said "but in Arizona at least its a dry heat which I suppose is the upside as they don't have to deal with the humidity as well"...
nice to see ya Vail!

Wow good for you Suzy my goodness that is bravery.
That is too funny Snoozie, corn starch to gravy lol We have come long ways with technology. I remember also when I was young maybe 7 or 8, and we had a party line. You pick up the telephone but someone might already be talking. You have to wait until they got off than you could make your call. I don't know what made me think of that.
Thanks, Snoozie and Vail, I was able to get my blood drawn yesterday, but now I have to see if I still am going to be able to make it to my appointment. Thank goodness it is so far only a tropical storm but we are still having bouts of heavy rain. So I am not sure what roads are open just waiting to call the office.

Ditto on the party line, Milove... I was 12 yrs old...
those were the good days...you could catch up on all the gossip , listening in on the right people without ever leaving the house....so I've heard! lol0 -
lol @ the party line.. we didn't have that, but when visiting my grandparents down east it was always fun to um.... attempt a call and immediately hang up of course...didn't ever listen in.. nope not us !
funny tho.. my grandmother would NEVER discuss anything on their phone up to the day she died; anything personal or whatever would always go in a letter to my mom and aunt... used to drive them crazy when she would say i have something to tell you but i'll drop it in the post tomorrow... never thot about it but I bet that history with the party line was why!
milove fingers crossed yu make the doc appt.. don't even wanna think about not being able to get there after all the time yu've had to wait!! hugs

Gail, you're giving me way too much credit! 250 miles? That would take me six months to complete! Hahahaha I'm not sure where you got that...maybe I made a typo somewhere. I think we're hiking something like 35 or 40 in four days in October.
Sadly I don't have any proud moments lately. I've been completely off the rails. My life is running me instead of the other way around. I seriously feel like a huge boulder racing downhill. I've got to get my act together. We're going to a family reunion in 11 days and I may have to go buy a bigger swimsuit. I'm thoroughly disgusted with myself. Ugh!0 -
Hahaha....Suzy, there is no telling...I may have not had my glasses on and saw something looking like 250 miles hiked....lol0
-
.....ta da!! found it...It was your post of 250 minutes hiking....I still am impressed. : )1
-
Gail - yay you for holding steady!!!! That is no easy accomplishment!
Milove- hope you are staying dry and safe and that all goes well with your blood test. Funny remembering the party line on the phone- hadn't thought about that for a lone time. like Snooozie, my grandmother had a party line, and I do remember listening in with my sisters when we were young :-)
Snooozie- I'm impressed our weather made it on your news, and how typical for the dry heat comment lol. Funny about your grandmother never discussing anything personal on the phone..I bet your hunch is correct about it stemming from the party line. Corn starch in the sheets? How funny. Happy to hear you have some well deserved time off
Suzy- sorry you are struggling lately.
Thanks ladies for your empathy about this simply ridiculous heat wave. 116 yesterday in Tucson and 120 in Phoenix where they did have to cancel many flights. 113 today here in Tucson and no end in sight for this week at least. It truly feels like you are walking inside an oven the moment you step outside. My son had car trouble from the heat yesterday where his antifreeze literally boiled over. It's crazy. Usually during a significant heat wave my home air conditioner breaks down ( a common occurrence here), but so far so good. I had it worked on the last two summers, so hopefully it lasts!
My proud of me moment for this week is that I am continuing to walk at the inside track and am doing 2 miles instead of one.
2 -
That heat sounds unbearable! I was hoping you had air conditioning, but if it breaks down - not so good. Well done on the walking.
Suzy, 35-40 miles sounds a lot to me, particularly if it's difficult terrain! I'm with you on losing the plot at the moment - I've been telling myself I need to get my act together. I hope you have a lovely time at the family reunion, whatever size of swimsuit you wear (it's not as if anybody else bothers! I'm sure we're harder on ourselves than other people are!).1 -
Amen to that vail - I've often said to my friends don't say anything to yourself you wouldn't say to me... like would you EVER say to me "really omg I can't believe you ate all that AND had dessert too??" "or really you wonder why you're not losing weight when you sit on the couch and veg and stuff your face" ?? They say OF COURSE i'd never say that to you.. so I ask them why they think its ok they say it to themselves... we are ABSOLUTELY horrible to ourselves; we say and think things about ourselves we would never say to those we love - so why do we think it's ok to bash ourselves when we aren't perhaps at our best in food choices or whatever it may be..
its just NOT ok.... and I think we all need to start with those IPOM moments... they don't have to be big things..and they don't have to be anything to do with our weight loss journey...
and they DO exist in spite of what most of us think might be a "bad day" as such... I had a slice of cheesecake today... but ya know what?? I have drank (drunk?) almost 6 glasses of water so far too!! and will get at least another one in before bedtime... so YAY ME!! and I got my roots done this morning, and I tipped my hairdresser a really big tip because it dawned on me he always trims my bangs for free every single time I go in.... so I thought it would be nice to show him I appreciate him doing that with an extra big tip..... so IPOM again for thanking him that way!
and just in case there's anyone who doesn't know or doesn't remember what IPOM's are?? It's an acronym for an "I'm Proud Of Me" moment !!! So ladies... let's bring em on, k? I think it would do all of us who are struggling some good to realize just how many IPOM moments we actually can be proud of!!
Milove - I keep scooting in to see if you made it to the doc.. pls let us know when you can if you made it! hugs1 -
WOW ...Thanks, Snoozie...I never looked at it like that...We do treat ourselves like $hi# most of the time. I know I do. If I think back to how I talk to myself... that does need to change right now.
I know it made him feel good when you gave him a nice tip.
I can't imagine life without cheesecake and kudo's to the water!!
Hope you all have an awesome weekend!!

Happy VACATION , SNOOZIE!!!0
-
Thanks Gail - ummm did you forget your IPOM girl??? lol c'mon.. I wanna see one!0
-
Hmmmm....todays not the best day...especially after that PayDay bar I just finished...but let's see....if I had eaten a payday bar in the past after trying to do better , I would have just cussed myself out, and given up AGAIN!!!....but not now...So.......IPOM for not doing that, I just accepted that I wanted it, I ate it and I will trudge on to a better day tomorrow!!!
Yea!!! IPOM!! and IPO all of you girls, too!!
)2 -
that's a fabulous IPOM gail - that's exactly the right mindset we need in realizing its fine to have an indulgence without falling into that old trap of thinking it could somehow affect our overall goals and just give up... I am SO impressed well done !1
-
and my favorite :-)

Okay, my IPOM: I spent the day finishing painting my parent's bathroom for them, I ate a very healthy breakfast and lunch, I didn't eat the powdered sugar donuts that my mom offered. There. I found a few. Have a great vacation Snoozie! Stay cool Seehe!2
-
way to go suzy!!!!!!!!!!!! seeeeeeeeeee we just gotta remember all the positive stuff we do rather than focusing on things we think we haven't done!
I spent a lovely ME day yesterday indulging in a new book and turning off most of the electonrics and phone for a few hours then met a friend for lunch - today did my lovely lake walk and found a new garden (it's our 150th birthday for Canada on july 1st) and the garden is our flag. darn it cut the rest of my post when I tried to include the picture o the garden ... oh well i'm off to do some housework to burn a few calories! have a lovely day Hatters!2 -
