Congratulations on the scale moving in the right direction!!! I totally understand you wanting to update more frequently. We need those positive vibes!!
I did some reading last night about RMR and TDEE and did some real soul searching. In looking back at my diary and being totally honest with myself, I am eating way too many carbs and just not moving enough. Yes, I do my big hikes every Sunday and walk three miles most nights but other than that I really am a couch potato. I'm making some questionable choices in my eating, like eating Halo ice cream every night and munching pretzels during the day. I also eat cereal every morning. Can you say, "carb city?" My calories are within range but my macros are way off. So...I went grocery shopping today and got some low carb foods. I doubt I'll hit the 40/40/20 macros right away but will try to do better. Once I get back from our hike and vacay then I'll get more serious about hitting those macros and trying to eat several smaller meals each day instead of what I've been doing. I think I'll try the make ahead and freeze approach that you've been doing, Snoozie.
On another note, my knee has been hurting since I started training for this hike. So I'm taking it a bit easy until we go. I need to give it a rest. I'm doing the strength training but won't be doing any long hikes. It's hell to get old!!!0 -
ya suzy. its been so long since the scale moved downwards I find the visual of it moving even a few ounces helpful right now - cause I know it won't last at this rate forever; there will come the plateau and the ARGHHH weeks!!
Good on ya for the re evaluation; I remember TDEE and what it is.. I don't remember a RMR; I think its resting metabolic rate or something similar? I can totally relate to what you're saying about not moving enuf.. yes I do my daily walk every day but other than that potato I am.. but you DO have those weekly hikes my friend!! I understand what you're saying tho.. and i'm trying to find something to do over the fall and winter that will keep me moving but not break the bank.. i'm even thinking about a bowling league maybe .. I don't know if I even like bowling.. lol
Re your carb re evaluation.. yes I can say carb city cause I iv there .. nice little place I have, small but works for me . ha. I don't know what the 40/40/20 macro is.. is that carb/protein/fat? I know what marcros are I just don't know what the numbers indicate?
I am not tracking calories or tracking carbs.. or tracking anything at all right now lol.. im just trying to get most of my carbs from veggies and fruits; I haven't restricted anything tho I still have my wee brownie or my 2 timbits every day.. and last night I actually had a little bit of mashed potato cause I made myself a steak.. but I ate a lot less of the taties than I normally would.. And I still have a few slices of bread most days; sandwiches are jut easier to bring to work but I now use the Wonder thin bread = cause I'm cheap.. I was paying almost $5 for a loaf of weight watchers or the equivalent cause they have much less carbs in em... then I saw a loaf of white wonder THIN SLICE .. and I think it has 2 more carbs than the WW.. at 1/2 the price.. so I was like screw that... I don't eat a lot of sandwiches or toast so I might as well save the money ha.
The naked shepherd worked well me for me simply because I loaded the hamburger meat with a can of mushroom soup and a TON o veggies.. I used a few frozen green beans to throw in too.. put it in the oven for 1/2 hr then separated it into tubs to freeze... when I was starving threw it in the nuker and saved me from pigging out on something evil . same with the taco mix; I heated up small containers of it and tossed some into a taco salad, and some I just ate right out of the tub as a snack lol. And one night I threw a few nacho chips on a plate (I think 6 big ones - tossed the taco meat mix on top, added salsa and a little shredded cheese, into the nuker for 30 seconds and a blob of sour cream on top... was a total "treat" but well within my day as the rest of it had only carbs from veg and fruit. I also try to eat an orange or an apple (they are in season here now and ccheap) for my snacks.. both take me a while to eat - oh and I had a nice plate of some cubed cheese and grapes for snack one day..
I brot a few crackers to have my tuna on one day... 6 crackers had 20 crabs or something and was a nice change from bread..... so that sort of thing is what I am trying to do carb wise.... and avoiding oatmeal and cereal for now.. being lazy I have made 2 omelletes sometimes at night.. one for dinner and while i'm eating it with a slice or 2 or bacon, i'm cooking the second one to take for brekkie in the morning... right now it seems to be working good for me and its varied enough to keep me from feeling denied...
I always like hearing what others are eating it gives me ideas too lol.... thankfully tomorrow is my last shift then i'm off for a few.. dinner tonite is a toasted tomato sammich with lettuce - there would be bacon but again im lazy lol. I had a greek salad for lunch at work but left half as it was big for tomorrows lunch, so i'll just have to toss in a tub of naked shepherd to add with it and im good to go but my freezer will be empty by then so i'll have to look up some more recipe ideas - hello chicken LOL
AND for sure lay off the training til your knee is better; you do not want it messed up for when you go !! my left foot is acting up; swollen and sore I have NO idea why.. but putting my boot on this morning was like ow ow ow.. I have a meeting at the LAC tonite for a few hours; mandatory safety meeting once a year I gather so im hoping most of it will be sitting on my butt listening cause I aint up for 3 flights o stairs multiple time tonite!

The 40/40/20 is percentage of calories from protein/carbs/fat. I made up my daily menu and was able to hit those percentages but then real life happened and I went over on carbs...but not by as much as I usually do. I had an omelette for breakfast which is huge for me because I hate to cook first thing in the morning. Lunch was a pack of sweet and spicy tuna mixed with a 100 calorie single serve of wholly guacamole and eaten on celery. I had a snack of a Gouda cheese stick. Dinner was salmon, yellow squash and brussel sprouts. I totally caved and ate my Halo ice cream. I had other low carb/high protein snacks planned but ended up being away from home and didn't eat them....hence the ice cream. I don't think I can consistently hit the 40/40/20 thing but it gives me something to shoot for. Mainly to just be more aware of how much of each I'm eating.
I could only walk 45 minutes tonight because my knee was hurting. I'm worried about it and am wondering if I should try to get a cortisone shot next week. I'd rather not but...I just don't know. I hate getting old. Remember when we were young and nothing hurt? Ah, those were the days!!

Hi all! I'm sorry, I have been MIA, long story as usual. I have been reading here, but not commenting. I don't know if I should list all my woes as it would be a huge post! Ha ha! Anyway, it's good to come here and see you talking about the basics of eating. I have not being doing low carb recently. Hoping that fasting will work on its own. Of course, for it to work, I need to do it more! And the reality is that I still need to be carefuly on eating days, as I have a very "healthy" appetite.
I'm laughing at the "naked shepherd" - sounds much more exciting than what it actually is! (Although I'm sure it's delicious in its own way!). I don't tend to make anything like that as I'm usually quite happy with it being cooked on the stovetop and served immediately: my son didn't used to like things like crispy bits, burnt bits, etc. when he was young, so preferred things that weren't cooked in the oven. But I have cooked something similar and added veggies in the past. When I was low carbing, I just wouldn't have the potatoes/pasta/rice/etc that went with things, so would eat the spaghetti bolognese without the spaghetti, for instance.
I'm sorry about your knee, Suzy. I'm having knee problems too, and of course exercise and sleep and everything ends up being affected. Yes, it's a pain getting old (although better than the alternative, as my mother used to say). I'm really noticing how difficult it is to recover from things.
TDEE was a revelation to me a few years back! I had no idea I need so much less calories than the average person! Mine is about 1500. Which feels to me like a dieting amount of calories, not a maintenance amount! And of course, the lower your BMR/RMR, the less calories you burn through exercise too. But I agree, Suzy, that it also needs some honesty with yourself about what you're eating. Snacking is my downfall, and I know that the best way for me to lose weight is not to snack. Hence the fasting. The trouble is that on my non-fasting days, I have been snacking, and I need to stop that! Even if it's healthy food, it's calories!2 -
Welcome back Vailara! I'm so sorry for your recent woes...whatever they are. When times are hard it's even more difficult to stick to eating healthy. That's why they call all that yummy goodness "comfort food!"
Hahahaha! I never even thought of the other "naked shepherd!" Now that's funny!
I'm not sure I completely understand the whole RMR and TDEE and BMR concept but it opened my eyes to how much I'm NOT moving and how carb dependent I've become. I'm trying to concentrate on making my carb choices more complex carbs instead of the cereal, pretzels, popcorn, and such. I tried the fasting approach and I just couldn't stick with it. We all have to find what works for us.1 -
Welcome back Vail - lovely to see you again!! Like suzy am sorry to hear you've been going thru a rough patch and hope things turn around soon!
Suzy - good job on the carb change - as in going for more complex carbs rather than the simple ones; i'v seen a wee loss as you know from doing the same and frankly its good to see the scale moving right now and i'm not craving anything .. yet lol. I did have a few little chocolates today at work; a few more than would have made me happy to be honest the rest were just cause they were there.. a dangerous thing for me so I gave away a couple - and not out of being sweet and sharing, just to keep em out of my mouth lol.
and as you all know by now, I am completely in agreement that whatever each of us decides is right for us, i'm 100 percent supportive of whatever that decision is.. we are all grown up and can decide what's right for us and I think at this stage of the game, its good for us to explore new ideas and new concepts that we are interested in and see if they work or not... I know for me true "low carb" like 20 net carbs a day or whatever it is.. doesn't work; for me I get sluggish and cranky and just feel tired all the time - so simply trying to eat most of my carbs from veg and fruit and allowing some bread and crackers or what not in there too seems to be good right now and im losing a bit of weight and I feel good.. but whatever we all try to get to where we wanna be, im all there.. unless one of you decides at some point to try a straight diet of nothing but liver and lima beans forever.. and.... ever... in which case we can no longer be friends lol.
1 -
Oh, definitely agree it's about what works for us individually. We are a long way down the line with sorting out our diets! I would not try to "sell" fasting, as I know some people just don't get on with it. And of course, it's not actually working for me in the sense of losing weight at the moment, because I'm not doing it often enough/long enough, and I'm eating too much in between. So it's no magic answer. In the end, I think it's sometimes a matter of what suits you, what you can stick with, etc., and changing it up now and then when it's not working. I also realise it's different for me because I don't (at the moment, touch wood!) have issues with diabetes/insulin resistance. I have done just low carb in the past and it did work very well for me.
Have to admit that I have been tempted by a really restrictive diet, though ... something like that potato one that Penn Jillette did, just for the simplicity of it. I don't think it's a good idea, BUT I like the idea of taking away all the issues surrounding food and just eating that one thing for a while. Have any of you tried it? I don't think I'm going to go for it, but just you talking about liver and lima beans made me think of it, Snoozie! I think it's a step too far at the moment, though!
I do need to take my eating in hand in some way on the non-fasting days. It seems that there's not a day in which I don't add a "little" treat, which is often high-carb and not the complex type either! I'm talking cake, bread, etc. So that does need looking at - I'm very much for having occasional treats, but not on every non-fasting day!2 -
Vail - I've never even heard of the potato thing.... and nope not a chance in hell i'd ever try it.. I like food too much LOL.. I remember a long time ago a nutritionist put me on a one week "diet" to kick start some weight loss.. I could eat anything I wanted protein wise, but veggie wise I could only eat anything green... and there are actually a lot of green vegetables so you would think hmm ya I can do that lol 2 days in I was jonesing for a carrot LOLOL.. and at this age i would never do that kind of thing again fo myself; i am pretty sure a red pepper never did me any harm HAHAHA.. but i just mean i don't think these days i could ever restrict any food from my daily diet as such.. well i should clarify any healthy foods!! i understand what you mean too about the non fasting days for you becoming frequent treat days ... i tend to go overboard when i'm doing well and think ok i can have a cookie or whatever today... then that becomes another cookie.. or a slice of cake or whatever.. like the chocolates for me yesterday. they were one of those boxes of individual wrapped chocs for charity sale... i think there are 16 little chocs in the box for $3.. and even after giving away a couple i totally ate al the rest of them.. and then a few more of someone elses!! and honest to god if i had had anything at all in the house last nite i would have eaten that too... (fortunately lazy won out even when i considered getting out of my jammies and maybe popping round to the store!) i want to be able to incorporate less than healthy options now and then without worrying about them.. but i know its gonna be a while before i can get comfortable with that - too dangerous for me now to think i can do it LOL ... i'm glad you are finding the fasting working well - is your son still doing it along with??? i know it was going to make things a little easier for you when he decided to join in ..0

After a full 7 days of dayshift and not being able to get in my early morning walks at the lake, i couldn't wait to get down there this morning - we've had 2 weeks of incredible weather for late September, high 80's and sunny and it was soooo lovely to be down there today - a friend of mine who is a runner and runs off road trail runs for MEC went for a walk on a secluded trail the other day and emailed me that she had seen a deer and 2 babies which she wouldn't have seen if she was running as she has to watch the trail for hazards (somewhat like your hike trails Susie LOL) Anyway, she has now decided to add walking to her day to let her enjoy the mental health benefits and get a glimpse of the beauty of nature too! i snapped a few pics of my trail this morning.. from the lone fisherman to the wildflowers still bursting with color while the leaves are already starting to turn on the trees.. and the bushes were filled with butterflies .. and my bench was just waiting for my butt to plop down ......so be warned pics coming lol... just a gorgeous start to my first day off!!0

Absolutely gorgeous Snoozie! That setting would do wonders for anyone's mental health! I'm still so impressed that you get out there so early!!!
I see the appeal of food limiting....not having to think about what to eat because you only have a couple (or one?!?!?!) choice but there's no way I could do it. My brother lost a bunch of weight by eating just chicken and broccoli for dinner every night but you can't sustain that and he's gained some back as soon as he stopped. I know in my case when I deny myself then I end up going off the deep end.
I finally...FINALLY...showed a loss today. Hallelujah! I miss my easy peasy cold cereal in the morning and my munchies but I guess they were part of the problem. I've got one week before we leave for Virginia (hike) and Maine (vacation). I'm facing that defeatist attitude of, "I'm just going to gain it back on vacation." I'm determined to stick with this until we go though.
And btw Snoozie....I would have eaten all the chocolates. I am such a sweetaholic!2 -
Suzyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy WOO HOO on finally seeing your hard work start to pay off!! And I know you miss your cereal - so maybe let yourself have it one or two mornings or now and then so you don't feel like youre missing out? I am SO glad you finally saw a loss...and even though you have your lovely plans to vacay coming up, maybe try to think of that time as your "off" days.. and that now every day before you go is just a "normal" day of eating well and cutting back some of the simple ccarbs... don't worry about what you might gain while you are away now - put that thought right out of your head cause it has nothing to do with what you're doing NOW.. you're simply working on eating well and losing some weight now, and when the lovely hike and vacay come, you can deal with what you feel like eating and doing then... you may find yourself making different choices here and there while you are away without even thinking about it... and that includes choosing a naked burrito bowl instead of a wrap, or choosing to have that frozen lime margarita on the patio !! But those thoughts are for while you are away; right now just remind yourself you're seeing the results of your hard work RIGHT NOW.. and just focus on keeping up the changes you're making to things every day ... that week will fly past and I bet you'll see another pound or 2 gone before you are ready to enjoy your time away!!
Congrats on the loss and keep the faith!1 -
P.S. I am totally claiming an IPOM moment yesterday - I was stupid enough not to eat before doing a show at the LAC; by 530 on the way home I was starving and there is a burger king a few blocks away so I thought screw it im starved I don't wanna cook i'll just get a small burger.. so I started driving and having this conversation in my head with myself saying don't do that go home and make something... I don't wanna im wiped and I have nothing that doesn't require cooking... one little burger wont hurt and i'm starving.... but you've worked so hard this week.. blah blah blah.. that convo took about 2 blocks and just before I got to my own street, I thought NO.. and crossed 3 lanes of traffic to make a left turn onto my street instead of continuing another block to the BK.. as soon as I made the turn I was so mad at myself.. I even contemplated a U-turn LOL.. and I stomped upstairs all mad and hungry.. I opened the freezer and discovered gold.. one last tub of frozen beef stew hahah.. so I jammed that into the nuker while I changed and had a few crackers with cheez whiz on the side and it was soooooooooo good.. I realize food tastes better comparative to how hungry we are LOL. but honestly it was like ambrosia LOL. So i'm actually gonna claim 2 IPOMS.. one for freezing some healthy stuff in the first place and 1 for making the choice to stick with my goal!1
-
Totally moments to be proud of! You rock!!

lol suzy.. yup im taking them.. I realized this morning tomorrow is my weekly weigh in day, so i'm wondering if that little thot nudged its way into my subconscious while I was having the debate with myself.. ? hahaha i know there will be days when i won't win the arguement with myself tho.. so whatever it was that steered me away yesterday i'm good with it!1
-
Congratulations on the loss, Suzy! It's so good to see results when you've been working at it! Well done on your IPOMs, Snoozie! I went to McDonald's a good while ago when I wanted a quick lunch before doing something else - anyway, it just wasn't good at all. Not nearly as nice as something I could have made at home. Of course, that isn't necessarily a good thing, because there are lots of places in town that do very good "fast" food. I think I've mentioned the shop with home-made pastrami, or there's a vegan place that does delicious fritters with hummus and so on, or artisan bakers, butchers (pork pies! Scotch eggs! etc.). So now I'm tempted by things that are much more calories than a simple McDonald's hamburger - lol! But my point was I can well believe that your own food was much nicer than the burger you could have had. I love your pictures from your walk, and I agree about the mental health benefits.
There's a food festival in town at the moment, so have been going to demonstrations, having free samples, etc. - not the best time to be dieting as all those little bits add up! But I'm back at work today, so that should keep things in check.
Suzy, I miss cold cereal too! I didn't even have it often, but for years I've had something "healthy" for breakfast, or not at all. I have cravings for bran flakes, or toast and marmalade! And grapefruit: I can't have it because of my medication, but I really miss it! It reminds me of the 80s, when half a grapefruit and a bowl of bran flakes or fruit'n'fibre was considered a healthy breakfast!1 -
Vail - I grew up in Montreal where pastrami is a religion LOL.. so reading your post set off cravings galore HA.. those fritters sound amazing too.... actually it all does.. look away Snoozie look away... we have a waterfront festival in the summer where guest chefs put on food demos mainly with lobster and seafood and give out samples... so I feel for ya as I could eat a few days worth of calories in samples alone...
I had to laugh at your comment "i have cravings for bran flakes"... I get the cereal thing even tho I've never been a cereal person - but craving bran flakes had me laughing I admit.. but whatever turns our crank, right??
My neck is so stiff today I can barely move it an inch either way; so I booked a session with my massage therapist for 11am.. but I don't know how much she can do cause I don't think im gonna let her touch it LOLOL... so sore and im pretty sure its cause I fell asleep on the lovesseat which I don't fit into... sigh.. oh well.... this too shall pass and since it's literally just a pain in the neck (hahahaha) it aint up there on the big problem wall...
I didn't lose any weight today on my official weigh in day but I cheated and weighed in mid week so im not worried - will just keep aiming for most of my carbs from fruits and veg this week
ohhhhhhhh and be warned.. a few more pics below BECAUSE I couldn't believe at the lake this morning..i passed a lady who had stopped with her bike.. she had one of those tiny dogs in her basket and I guess she was letting him out to pee or whatever.... so normally we just say morning or hi to people on the path.... so I say good morning... and HER REPLY??
"omg I cant believe this smog you can't see anything at all how horrible is this?" I was so floored I stopped dead... I said pardon?? she repeated it and I just said.. umm sorry I totally disagree its a gorgeous day...... !!! and just kept walking... talk about a negative person omgggg so right after I snapped a few pics just to show you what kind of day it was at the time I met her... I can't imagine what life is like for her with that attiutide !!
0 -
Is that your lake? All I can see is a foggy smoggy pic. Hahahaha! I'd much rather walk through life seeing the positive rather than complaining about perceived negatives! Life is way too short for that nonsense!
I had cereal this morning! It was yummy! I'm taking your advice Snoozie and allowing it a couple times a week....when I just don't want to cook breakfast! Pretty much all my other carbs come from fruits and veg, so it shouldn't be that big a deal.
Oh Vailara!! Pork pies!!! I miss those! I have no control with yummy samples! Be careful girl!!! Lol!1 -
Yay Suzy ! I think that's grea re the cereal - it is likely to be a long time staple for you so going without it at all probably wouldn't be sustainable so it's a perfect solution.1
-
It looks like a beautiful day in those pictures, Snooozie. How strange that that woman thought it was smoggy.
Suzy, the pork pies at the particular butcher I'm thinking of are amazing! And their sausage rolls, Cornish pasties, steak pies, etc., all with amazing pastry!2 -
Howdy Hatters. apologize for the hiatus- needed a break I guess. Haven't been abandoning all things healthy- I'm glad to see that some of my lifestyle changes have stuck and I'm comfortable with them. But, interestingly, slacking somewhat just doesn't seem to work for me in the long run. This is nothing new for me, but seems a lesson I need to relearn every so often. The newer healthy habits seem to slip more and more while the less or un healthy ones creep back more and more. And I started rebelling about taking my vitamins and supplements ( have trouble swallowing pills, but still....stupid) Well, I'm currently paying the consequences with some added weight and slighty elevated A1C for the first time in a long time (interestingly I had stopped taking my Alpha Lipoic acid for a few months, which is what I think is responsible for that).
On the positive side, I am happy to say i am feel fresh motivation after this last weekend. I was up at Sedona for my husband's high school reunion, and drank too much and ate poorly. I ended up feeling so crummy the next day I had to pass on a hike that i had previously really looked forward to. It really bothered me to feel so crummy and to have to miss out on that hike opportunity, and then when I got on the scale this morning....well it wasn't pretty. All of this has caused me to seriously reflect on what it is I REALLY want...to slack off and end up more overweight and unhealthy, or to be more disciplined about what the heck I put in my mouth and feel healthier and happier about my health and weight. Which takes me back to that saying :
I also have extra motivation 'cause I'm going to Michigan in 2 months for my niece's wedding, and I want to fit in my clothes, so it is back to the drawing board for me!
0 -
So happy to see you back Susan! I think we all go through our acts of rebellion towards our healthy eating. The important thing is that you're back to it now and motivated. I'm sorry you missed out on the hike but maybe that can be a goal/reward you set for yourself. Don't look back and feel guilty, look forward and feel determined!!!
I totally blew my low carb goals today but stayed around my calorie goal. I started cleaning out my closet this morning and it turned into an all day and night project!!! I got rid of four big black trash bags of clothes!!! I also had to repair the closet system (which I wasn't expecting)! So...I caved and we ordered a thin crust pizza. I hadn't eaten much all day (after my cereal) because time got away from me, so I did okay for the day. And I have a clean organized closet! Win!1 -
Morning Hatters!
Susan - welcome back; as Suzy said we totally get everyone needing a break now and then, and i'm glad for you it was also a time of reflection and decision making. I particularly liked your one comment "and feel healthier and happier about my health and weight" because that pretty much sums up where we all want to be, and MFP and our friends here are one of the tools that will help us all get there. Good to have you back
Suzy - I too did a carb blow out day; but did NOT stay within any calorie goal known to man LOL.. so kudos to you for staying within cals !! And I am not freaking over it today ... but I know for me it's a slippery slope after a day like that - so today will be focusing on staying with only fruit/veg carbs to make sure I can handle a one off day. As we've talked about, I am not doing "low carb" in its true sense, just less of the simple and more of the compex. And I plan to make up a few more freezer dinners over the next few days before evening shift. There's a really good chicken with mushrooms in a creamy balsamic sauce on skinnytaste that freezes well, so I may make a batch of that along with another naked shepherd haaaaaaaaa.
Rock on ladies... and keep in mind these are rewards we are striving for - and we don't need to be deprived while we get there; and on that note, what's everyone's healthy " I love" meal or veg or dish?? Right now for me i'd have to say fresh green beans are doing it for me!0 -
PS vail I just saw a 3 lb loss for you !! Awesome !!!!!! Yayyyy you !!0
-
Thanks Suzy and Snoozie for your kind words and encouragement
Vail- fantastic job!!!! you inspire me
Snoozie- as far as healthy yummy food goes, I just picked up some delicious crab salad at the market as well as a couple of spinach feta croissants1 -
One of my favorite recipes right now is also from skinnytaste....chicken francese lightened up. I add asparagus, capers and halved grape tomatoes. Then I eat it with zuchini "noodles". I tried modifying the recipe with a nice cod filet tonight and it was delish! What is the name of the creamy balsamic recipe Snoozie? Here's a link to the chicken francese:
http://www.skinnytaste.com/lighter-chicken-francese-83-pts/0 -
Ohhh thanks Susie have you ever tried freezing it just out curiosity? It sounds yummy thanks I will post the link for the chicken it uses chicken broth instead of cream and actually I think it was originally posted with porkchops but I do both pork and chicken. I'm so excited my grocery store now has a section with spiralized everything from zucchini to beat to squash I can't wait to try them!1
-
No, I've never frozen it. I usually just cook enough for one night. I need to start making double everything and freezing half. Why don't I do that already?!?!!!!1
-
Thank you for the congratulation on the 3lb loss, but I have to come clean and say that it was following a gain. Honestly, every time I take my eye of the ball, my weight starts creeping up (I say this as if it's something I have no control over, but you know what I mean!). I'm pleased with the loss, but still have about 7lb to get back to my lowest and I know I'm going to have to work for it, especially as ideally I'd like to lose even more.
That chicken recipe looks lovely!
I hardly ever freeze either, but I have small freezer which is mainly full of the cat's raw food. And also, I prefer to cook from scratch. I'm not even sure why, but I do find defrosting quite a hassle. Nothing seems to completely defrost in the fridge, and using the microwave defrost facility partially cooks it and is uneven, leaving it out takes too long in the evening, and yes, if I need to, I'll defrost in cold water, or even warm water in a hurry, but by the time I've done that I feel I might as well have cooked from the beginning! Some things do freeze and reheat very well though (stews, etc.) so maybe I should try to make some more space in the freezer.0 -
Morning Hatters!!
Well I did a scale hop this morning and saw enough of a wee loss to kick me into a new set of numbers - only by 2 ounces mind you - but just seeing a new set is giving me a little bit of encouragement. But I'm going to wait til my usual Monday to weigh in - even knowing fluctuation is perfectly normal I don't wanna see it happen!
Vail - I know what you mean about the gain/loss thing.. I have been "stuck" if you will at my weight since I settled at it after flunking maintenance.. I've gone up and down a few pounds each way but can't seem to "break" the weight my body has settled at... so i'm hoping this new focus of mostly complex carbs will crack that settled weight for me... I know I will have o see 10lbs gone before im sure it has tho... so patience is a virtue im gonna have to learn!
I only have a fridge freezer too... doesn't make sense to get a stand alone for just me, and I agree with you on most stuff not being so great re heated from frozen, but I have found as you said certain things like stews, soups, chili, and that balasamic chicken sauce do - and on work days i'm hoping having some of them available will keep me from the "im too wiped i'l just order a damn pizza" mode LOL.. FINGERS CROSSED !!
Seehee: hope you enjoyed the seafood salad and the croissants! Its funny, I'm considered a "coaster" here as I was born in the Maritimes and every Maritimer is supposed to love lobster, crab, scallops, shrimp, etc... I love FISH.. all fish.. but I don't like any shellfish which equates to me being excommunicated from being a coaster LOL.. i'd eat it if it was served to me at someone's house, but i'd be piling up other foods on top to hide the taste (a trick I learned as a kid - did we all learn that?)
We've been having a crazy fall here - sunny with temps into the 80's which is GREAT but I still get up every morning thinking I have to start digging out the fall/winter clothes... but its hard when you're sporting shorts and tank tops at the end of September! I ain't complaining tho.. that four letter "s" word will be rearing its ugly head at some point so i'll take this lovely weather as long as I can get it!
have a great day Hatters - and take a minute today to remember what you want for yourself; what kind of reward are you after - and spend today going after it.. don't worry about next week or tomorrow just think today i'm gonna be really good to myself cause I deserve it!! And that's all around rewards.. nourishment/emotional/physical - take a walk, read a book, get in the car and go for a drive somewhere you've never been - or put your feet up for 10 min after work and tell the world to keep away LOL.. be good to yourself today!
Suzy I just checked out that recipe at Skinnyaste - sounds yummy and simple enough I shouldn't be able to screw it up!! I may pick up some of those spiralized squash noodles to have along side it for dinner tonite! Thanks!
