Hi, Girls! You have been having such great conversations that I hate to break in. Yes, I have been reading and lurking....lol
I'm not going to try and break these into who said what:
WOOhoo!!! on all the losses
The chicken francese recipe sounds awesome!!.....gotta try it soon.
Not a big fan of freezing food, myself...it never tastes good to me...
I love most ALL seafood!
Spinach feta croissants !!! Sounds YUMMY!
PICs are awesome!! What I could see through the FOG( or was it Smog, can't go that far back to look, in case I lose this post)!! ....... seriously though, they are beautiful. Maybe the woman has bad glasses. I couldn't help but see her as the wicked witch with the dog in the basket. Striped socks and all.

Hello, Ladies,
I have been staying up with the reading and you guys are doing well. Up a few pounds and down a few pounds but I am still ahead by 0.5 pounds. Suzy your walking is so relaxing, but be careful, probably need to have a big stick with you. Snoozie, I read somewhere I am pretty sure that your doctor's visit had good results.
Yes, getting older is scary. My eye doctor appointment went well. I do not have pressure in my eyes, thank God.

Awesome news, Gwen!!0

lovely to hear from you Milove!! and even better with awesome news about your eyes !!
Getting older aint for wimps that's for sure. every day it seems another part starts hurting or acting up - but then I see someone like my 93 year old at the lake with her walker, and a very young 82 yr old volunteer at the LAC that can outpace me and I think yup that's what I wanna be!! so let's keep on keepin' on getting what we want for ourselves ladies!!2 -
Yep....the gift of getting older and being able to experience all the wonders of life, brings some added aches and pains along with it. I had my doctor appointment today for my neck pain. Turns out that it's trauma induced arthritis. Go figure! Arthritis and old age go hand in hand. I had whiplash about ten years ago and now the injury site has built up calcium deposits and is full blown arthritis. Oh well. I'll be doing some physical therapy to strengthen neck muscles and stretching and perhaps a trip or two to the chiropractor. At least she didn't mention bulging discs, compression or degenerated discs. I don't want to be on daily medication so we're not going that way. If nothing is helping then they can do a nerve ablation and basically decommission the nerve that is telegraphing the pain. That's only temporary though. Yep! I just love getting older! Hahaha! Seriously though...I want to be that 93 year old at the lake! I saw a video of a 105 year old woman who still does yoga! Unbelievable!
Make healthy choices, keep moving, keep laughing and think positive!!!1 -
What can I say
What can I do
It never falls off
Like I’m needing it to.
Reading posts on the page
Day after day
Never quite gets
Other’s results that I see
Oh why, Oh why
Can’t that be me!!

Wow, I am approaching sixty, the end of October. Most of the time I don't feel it. Then I get the pain in the hip or the swollen Left knee when I exercise too much. I can live with that, but the scare with the pressure in the eyes, thinking of blindness. This week I was feeling woozy most of the week then of the course I thought the worse! My mom had Alzheimer's Disease. Today, I feel fairly better so I am thankful. I want to be that 93-year-old being a beach bum, my goal in life. So we have to think positive and don't stop doing what we are doing.
Poetry my friend is beautiful!!1 -
Someone asked me today how old I would say I was if I didn't know how old I actually was. I've been giving it some serious thought and I think I would say mid forties. Yes, I have aches and pains but I feel like I'm still young at heart and adventurous. I'm open to trying new things and listening to new music. I try to find the positives in life and don't focus on the negatives. So I also intend on being that 93 year old beach bum, Gwen! Rock on, ladies!!
I probably won't have service for the next week. There goes my 275 day streak!! Oh well. I'm going to do my best to log everything even if I can't upload it. We start our hike on Monday in Virginia! Wish me luck. I'm feeling pretty good about it right now but will be freaking out Sunday night. We're heading to Virginia tomorrow morning.
Have a great week Hatters and send me some positive thoughts, if you think of it.1 -
I'm glad your eyes are OK, Milove. That's another thing about getting older, so many new symptoms and things to worry about!
Good luck on your hike, Suzy! I think even contemplating something like that puts you at a younger age - lol! I hope you get good weather conditions for it.
My doctor has talked me into Prozac - supposed to be good in menopause for the hot flushes and the mood swings, and I can't have HRT. It's not what I wanted, but I'm going to give it a go as I'm struggling at the moment and maybe it will help me deal with stress. I've been recovering from an injury and now back at the gym ... I'd mentioned a while ago about trying to decide between the gym classes (which are cheap) and my other exercise classes (which I enjoy more but more expensive). I had been doing both, but I think I can only afford one. I think I'm going to try for a while doing just the gym as it is much more flexible with classes, as long as I'm not bothered which class I do.0 -
Morning Hatters!
Was a beautiful morning at the lake; fall has finally hit and it was pretty windy, but I spent about 20 minutes just watching the waves form out in the lake and crash into the rocks.. I was kinda mesmerized watching them form way out.. it was like some huge sea creature was underneath heading for shore... like a big hump in the water coming in til it formed the crest.. i'm considering it a form of meditation rather than weirdly being mesmerized by them hahaha..
Suzy - I actually cringed reading your neck post.. omg... im so sorry about the traumatic arthritis; but i'm very glad to hear not bulging or deteriorating discs.. I have had such a bad week with my neck and its all new probs and was thinking maybe disc related whih just freaks me out.. fortunately for the moment it's finally gone .. but scares the crap outta me just thinking about it!! i'm hoping the PT will help for sure; bet we end up doing some of the same neck stretches.. speaking of which i need to get back to mine now that i'm better!
and i totally agree with you and milove about the mindset of keeping "young at heart" i find myself sometimes falling into the wrong mindset sometimes especially at work as ther are so many young'uns lol.. but i think it's important to keep learning new things and keeping abreast of whats going on wih the younger ones to keep that feeling. i actually thought of that the other day when i was out shopping; as you all know i'd rather have root canal than shop but i need some fall stuff.. and i was flummoxed trying to find a shop that had stuff for my "age". everything was either "Forever 21" or ... what i call the 80 yr old shops.. its like wheres all the stuff for the active and vibrant boomers??? where????
I think we have to find that balance somehow of remember we are vibrant and active women, and still accept that there will be days that we may have to scale back now and then if our bodies start yelling at us!
Vail - self care is one of the most important things we can do at any age, but especially now i think when we have a bit more time to focus on ourselves rather than the rest of the world as most women do throughout their years with kids, work etc. so if the meds your doc gave you help with the menopause symptoms and the stress, then i think its absolutely worth a try! so fingers crossed for you and please keep us updated on how you're doing!
Gail - i loved your poem, but it made me feel sad.... is there anything we can do to help you? Do you remember TArnold from our group way back?? When i was struggling with no loss and ready to give up, she offered to look over my diary and see if she could offer any suggestions.. she pointed out a few areas i hadn't even considered; the sodium levels i was at (which is when i discovered al the canned veg i was eating and white bread was loaded with sodium... as well as a few other things. That got me through and i changed up a few things and eventually saw a bit of loss.. so if there is anything we can do for you to get ya thru this moment just let us know, k ?? for the moment will just send a virtual hug!
Seehe - how goes the battle? hope all is well in your world ..
1 -
Suzy - i wanted to do a separate post about your upcoming hike...
So..
I know this is a huge goal you have set for yourself - and i want you to know that i am totally in awe of you doing this - and while i completely and absolutely believe we WILL see a picture of you at the summit (or the end of the hike.. im not sure if it's a mountain youre climbing?)
just the fact that you have set yourself such a goal and are giving it 100% effort - is absolutely commendable and inspiring!! I hope while you are on the climb you a) carry a big stick for those snakes!! and b) remind yourself with every step that you have already succeeded just by setting the goal and taking those first steps on the hike!!! But I beg you to please get a pic when you reach your goal - and that you have all of us Hatters cheering you on with every step!!! have a wonderful time !!!!!!!!1 -
Sorry, It was mostly "tongue in cheek" as they say. Hahahaha... I know exactly why I can't lose or keep it off..... I CAn NOt follow any type of set- in- stone way of eating....so I take it all with a grain of salt and don't really worry about it toooooo much.
Sending out good vibes for you to get to the top and down in great shape , Suzy!!1 -
Phew Gail !! I wasn sure if it was tongue in cheek or not so I thought I would reach out in case lol1
-
I'm the same, Gail. I'm finding it hard to lose the weight, but I know that it's because I'm eating too much - lol!
I'm a bit envious of your lake, Snoozie. I would have loved watching the waves. There's something calming about being near big bodies of water, I think. I once lived at the sea (as in a few yards away - it was quite noisy, what with the waves and the sound of the boats!). Now I'm inland, but I do have a river close by to walk or cycle next to.1 -
I feel the same way about being near water Vail - I was never lucky enough to live a few yards away lol.. but having the lake just a few minutes drive away is one of the reasons im torn about moving before I retire; I don't want to stay in my building here cause I cant have a dog and that's my retirement present to myself lol. .and I don't have a balcony and I need even a tiny bit of outside access whether a small backyard or a balcony...but I also want to stay near water but I also don't wanna go into huge debt in retirement which buying anything else with my "wants" would do to me LOL... so I've just kinda been putting off doing anything one way or the other.. but im gonna have to start giving it some serious thought because doing nothing.. ain't gonna get me where I wanna be!
Suzy - Im picturing you heading up on that hike this morning - can you see all of us on your path cheering you on??? hope you remembered the big stick for the snakes!!!
It's a new week hatters.... I had a wee bit of loss which was nice since its been 2 weeks without any; I know the reason was some poor choices I made over that time so not unexpected.
I was watching the closing ceremonies of the Invictus Games here in Toronto on Saturday night; I have a soft spot for all veterans so I have to admit I think Prince harry has done an incredible thing creating these games for the wounded vets... and anytime I start to feel sorry for myself i'm gonna watch a few of those videos! But during his speech, PH challenged the current participants to carry on after the games and keep making new challenges, in their own lives, their families lives, their own communities, or elsewhere in the world... and he said "it doesn't matter whether you take a big step, or a little step.... you just have to take that step...
and while I certainly don't mean to compare losing weight to anything even remotely close to what those amazing men and women who have lost so much serving their counties, have accomplished... I did think that line was so true for everything we do... and that for the weight loss and healthier all around aspect, it is all about just taking that step.. be it big or little.. doesn't matter.. but actually consciously taking "A" step every day towards accomplishing what we want, whatever that step may be for each of us.. whether it be a step forward to improving our physical or emotional selves, without taking those steps nothing will change, so this week my own goal will be to remember that every morning and try to take a step every day towards accomplishing what I want for myself. Be it big or little, I just want to take that step every day!
have a great week Hatters and be good to yourselves!

Best of luck, Suzy! I hope you have good weather.
Snooozie, yes, it's a trade-off when it comes to where to live. I live in a not so good part of town, simply because it was all I could afford. But it's next to the river and there are river paths leading into and out of town, so I can walk or cycle straight into the centre, or out into the countryside, hardly going on the roads.
I like the advice about taking a step, whether big or small. So true - it's easy just to do nothing, or postpone things. I don't know if any of you use Flylady? I've dipped in and out over the years. I'm not a huge fan of all of it, but one bit that stuck with me was "you can do anything for 15 minutes". So rather than putting off starting something because there's so much to do, just set a timer for 15 minutes and do as much as you can (or 10 minutes or 5 minutes if you don't feel up to 15). It has sometimes helped me to get through pieces of work that I kept putting off. I know it's not really relevant to dieting! But I've used it for exercise. And also, if I'm getting cravings, setting a time and trying to hold out that long can help - sometimes the craving goes away!2 -
Awesome inspirational read , Snoozie. WE have so much going for us and don't even realize it.
I have been fighting the "ALLERGY CRUD " again. I even started taking Zertec beforehand and I still got it..
Only good thing about is it keeps me from eating. I can tell I lost some lbs...will wait until it's over to post it though...incase it is just fluid and it comes back...
Hope all is well with Suzy. and the hike is going great!
Hello to everyone!!0 -
Hello, Mad Hatters,
Snoozie, I love the water too, it is so serene.
That sounds really wonderful Vail, that is a trade-off. Prozac is known as a miracle drug it is supposed to make you feel evenly.
I hope you feel better Gail! Having allergies is so miserable, loosing the pounds is a plus however.

Apparently, I was too under calories so it would not show in the newsfeed. Me with anorexia not even close. If they could have seen me looking long and hard for something to snack on. All the cookies and chips were gone. The cupboards were bare. I chose to eat half of carbs yesterday. I ate one slice of bread instead of two and a half of cup of rice instead of a cup and a two oz of wine instead of four.2

Hello Hatters!!! I survived!!!! I'll have to catch up reading posts later, I just wanted to let you know that I conquered the mountain....actually several!!! I'm heading to the hotel for a hot shower then a big juicy cheeseburger! Here's a photo of us at one of the summits. We look awful but triumphant!
1 -
Awesome news, Suzy!! You always take such great photos .... They almost make me wish I had been on the hike with you guys...lol Enjoy that burger, girl!

Suzyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy !!
I actually did a fist pump when I read your post and saw the pic!! I KNEW YOU WOULD DO IT - holy cow what an accomplishment an SEVERAL mountains?? you're gonna have to splain that later lucy LOL..
SO proud of you - and I can only imagine how YOU felt at the MOMENT you hit the top - huge congrats suzy.... and as gail said that's an AWESOME pic!!!
I hope that cheeseburger tasted like ambrosia - I imagine it would be hard to decide which was the most bestest - the shower or the burger LOL!!
You are truly an inspiration to me so thank you for taking the time to pop in and let us know; I was chomping at the bit thinking i'd have to wait til you got home ha...
Way to set a challenge and not only hit it, but push through it and do more... well done Suzy... well done!!1 -
I think you guys look great!!1
-
Wow, Suzy, congratulations! You look great, and I am in awe!2
-
A BIG congrats to you Suzy!!!! That’s absolutely awesome!!!
Vail- I have been on Prozac before and I must say it really did make a difference in lifting my spirits and helping me stay feeling positive during a very difficult time. My only problem with it, or any SSI type meds, is that they exasperate my restless leg and periodic limb movement disorder, so I had to discontinue taking it. To be perfectly honest, I really wish I could continue taking it, or St. John’s wort, or something like that as I truly find it beneficial, and I hope you find it beneficial as well.
Milove- I scrolled back and tried to find more info about the pressure in your eyes, but think I missed something. Am I correct that you got it checked and everything is ok ? I sure hope so. I have always had vision problems - since infancy- and this aging is not helping at all. To be honest, one of the reasons I haven’t been posting as much is that I have been having trouble seeing the posts and what I type on my iPad which is what I usually have handy. I do have an eye doc appointment on Wednesday and am hoping and keeping my fingers crossed that maybe a script change will help.
Suzy and Snooozie- ouch on the neck issues! I can totally relate as I also have arthritis in my neck as well as bulging discs, stenosis, and degenerated discs from a very serious car accident back in the day. I don’t know if either of you have ever tried a tens unit, but when my nerve pain was really bad that was the only thing that helped. I left it on all day , and it allowed me to continue my job, now I have a neuromuscular therapist who comes to my house once a week which really helps.
Gail- hope your allergies are getting better !
Snooozie- thanks for the inspiration! I truly appreciate how you are always so encouraging I also have been reflecting about what steps to take and focus to improve my journey (in addition to food choices and portion size.) I’ve decided on three daily steps actually: 1.Get enough sleep 2. Meditate each morning to start the day 3. Get in some type of physical movement each day and at least 30 minutes of dedicated movement at least every other day. While they sound very basic , I have been very negligent in steps 1 and 2 and slacking off in 3. I am happy to say so far so good these last few days in taking these steps.
I am happy to report that I took off the added staycation weight- yay. Now need to keep it going ...I can do this , WE can do this - Go Hatters Go !!!1 -
Hi, Susan, I know it is so scary going for these check-ups. I went to a visit to Costco for an eye check from an optometrist (have not had one for 3 years) and my pressure was high (alarming to me) why did I wait so long. So I made an appointment with an ophthalmologist and although my pressure was high he said I had thick corneas (which means that my pressure is not as high) and my field test was negative. So I am scheduled to go back in 3 months to retest me.
I can also relate Snoozie and Suzy. I sleep with the same neck pillows we use on the airplane. It keeps my head and neck align and I have reduced pain and tension in my neck during the day.0 -
Milove- so glad the high reading pressure turned out not to be an issue ! I see my optometrist at least once a year at this stage of my life. No pressure problems at this point thank goodness, but small cataracts keep causing prescription changes in addition to monitoring a new issue with what is referred to as mascular cellophane, which is unfortunately in my “good “ eye. Add that to prism adjustments to assist with my history of double vision, and amblyopia, strabismus, astigmatism and goodness knows what else that interferes with decent vision. It gets so incredibly expensive to change out prescriptions annually in my regular glasses, computer/ reading glasses and prescription Maui Jim sunglasses, which I really need with the brilliant sunlight in the desert and their precision lenses help with acuity. And quite frankly I could probably use a change about every 6 months- but I hold out until I have at least payed off all my current glasses. I am grateful, bough, that at least they have been able to correct my vision to a decent level with glasses thus far, even if I require frequent prescription changes. And the macular cellophane appears to have slid off to the side for now helping with my acuity in my better eye,. Right now I am primarily having difficulty with my weaker right eye out of which I can’t see well enough to read print anymore ( with glasses ) and am needing to turn my head slightly to only look through my left eye, but sometimes I still can’t see well enough even then, so I am hoping a prescription change will fix that. I guess I worry that my weaker right eye’ s vision, which is already 20/200 without glasses, and 20/50 with glasses, will deteriorate to the point that glasses won’t be able to correct it very well at all. But I guess it is what it is, and worrying isn’t going to change anything, so I may as well try to stay optimistic . I’ll know more Wednesday and will keep you posted0

Good morning Hatters!
It's our Canadian Thanksgiving weekend here; it was a lovely sat/sun but today it's pouring rain but supposed to clear this afternoon so i'm taking my senior friend out for a drive to see the changing leaves and then to a TG turkey dinner at a diner near me for both of us.. and there will be pumpkin pie in my future!!
Spent TG Sunday puppy sitting for a friend; her adult son moved back home along with 2 chocolate lab puppies, then decided to take a trip leaving sunday morning but my friends were all going to the cottage for TG so she said you better find someone to look after em cause we wont be here and we are NOT changing our plans so you can go on vacay last minute lol.. well being a boy.... needless to say she put out a plea and I had nothing on so got to play with 2 puppies for 12 hrs; I forgot just how much work puppies are tho so I burned a few extra calories for sure.. nuff for my pumpkin pie anyway!!
Today is my weekly weigh day being Monday and I/ managed to lose a wee bit more this week so perhaps i'll skip the pie.. no.. no I wont lol
Milove - glad to hear you're going back in 3 months.. but as I already said earlier, even gladder your pressures came out ok!
Susan - you have a lot to deal with physically - here's hoping wed visit will bring good news!
I think your goals are not at all basic; I think they are perfect - and its 3 steps towards getting what you want for yourself so kudos on taking those steps!!
The skies look like they are clearing a bit so I think im gonna skip my chores yet again and head to the lake and try and get a walk in.....
these are pics of the puppies to whom I owe the calorie burn yesterday - the little buggers eat everything from rocks to bugs and dirt... nd just chasing them to get em out burned off enough to justify my pie today lol
1 -
OMG Snooozie- those puppies are soooo adorable!!! Thanks for sharing the photos- really brought a smile to my face I raised three puppies in two years. First got Jake, then Lucy , but Lucy turned out to have a very bad temperament ( we started calling her Lucifer instead of Lucy lol) , so I had to give her back to the breeder when she was 9 months. We then got first pick of the next litter ,so raised the third puppy Sophie a few months later. I think that’s great that your retirement gift to yourself is a dog. I forgot - How soon are you going to retire ? Good luck on finding the perfect new home situation when the time comes.
Here are two pics to add to the fun puppy vibes
Jake
Sophie
