Like Dave said, when you live in climates that make riding difficult during parts of the year, you can use one of these "Hamster Wheels" to get in saddle time. They come from very simple versions to really complex. Simple versions only provide resistance via fluid, magnets or fans. They look like the one Dave posted. Really complex versions are computerized, don't use your back tire, and can be hooked to programs to have variable resistance that sync with riding programs like Zwift. TacX Neo and Elite Drivo are examples of smart trainers.

@FANNCY0626 Hello, here is what my hamster wheel looks like. I use this for saddle time. i got the nickname from @sufferlandrian as I pedal had and go nowhere. But I am tracking speed and cadence so I know how many miles I put in. We have had 6 months of rain so far, my my hamster wheel has been a life saver.

@sufferlandrian & @anaconda469 thanks for the pictures and information! I didn't even know they made anything like that. That would be great to have for winter time.0

3.1 miles. I did the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure in my area. I ended up going too fast in the beginning and having to walk some of it. Last year I did so much better, got my fastest 5K time, so I"m a little disappointed with it. My last few races have involved some walking, which is not what I want to do.

Yucky day of cold, windy and wet conditions for the Steel Challenge and Pittsburgh Kids Marathon. I had 150 kids running the 5k or 1 mile run in lousy conditions. Walked to and from the Expo in my garbage bag. Debate on running my half tomorrow. Heel feels good, knee not bad with KT taping but do I really want to do 13.1 in another day of yuck. Will wait till. 3am to decide. Interestingly, I had my feet scanned for the first time. I wear size 6 1/2 wide width in every day shoes but have been wearing 7 wide Brooke Ghosts for running. I measured 7.5 in left foot and 7 in right with lower arch in left and slightly higher arch in right which might account for tighter right foot. Left foot was where I got a black toe nail in my flat half marathon which might explain a too small shoe. Slightly wider foot than normal so good on width but the recommendation is that I go up to a size 8. That was so shocking but such a eye opening analysis.

Sorry for the late update. I'm in California visiting my mother. Between the time zone and difficulty with the internet had a hard time getting to this. Will comment more tomorrow (I hope).2 -

Fabulous day here in the NW of the UK, warm and sunny (wind was bitterly cold when it was noticeable.) Lovely walk round the park with DH, with coffee, scone AND ice cream (sugar cone, triple chocolate scoop and a caramel scoop). A lovely day.1 -
@k80flec Thanks :-) It was more about me still starting out too fast and losing steam too early. My trainer just pointed out that I was in the top ten for women my age, so that's helping my mood.
2 miles of walking and running in today's HIIT class. We do the class outdoors on the Astroturf in good weather and at one point there were buzzards circling overhead. I knew I was tired, I didn't think I looked like roadkill just yet.

Kar328: Every run is a learning experience.
@Janet: Enjoy your time in CA with your mother.
May 7: Well the weather was in the 30's and it was raining this morning. Got up and went outside and it was downright nasty out. My corral did not get off for almost an hour after the wheelchairs and elites went out. I would have been standing in my corral for an hour and half freezing and wet. I made a wise choice and stayed home to run another day. It most definitely was the coldest Pittsburgh Marathon on record.
Adding 15.03 miles today of walking 5 miles and cycling 10 miles
TTD: 97.44 miles
