My kids eat what they like, but they also eat good things too... Just saying, and neither of my kids have weight issues... yet.

I think it's all about moderation and balance, which is what you're doing! I think that is responsible. I was overweight as a child, but it wasn't because I ate crappy food. My mom cooked pretty much everything I ate, but I just ate WAY too much. It is very possible to not eat "what you like" as a kid and still be overweight (ie. me!), so I know the reverse can be possible, too. I just want there to be more balance for my niece and nephew -- not just chicken nuggets, hot dogs, and fries at every meal.

ETA: Sorry for hijacking your thread, Brenda!

Mine did, too. It's only those who let things go and their children suffer because people are too lazy to intervene. Know what I mean? This crisis with overweight and obese children hardly existed prior to the 90s. :(

I do understand that, My mother couldn't have cared less about my diet growing up. I was an obese child. Although I don't blame her, we usually didn't have food in the house, and when we did, I would eat as much as I could. I have binged on food ever since then, out of fear we wouldn't have it anymore. After that, it was just what I knew.

    I am a classic 90's kid.

Someone on another thread said that what I'm doing is not healthy :/ I'm not on here to fight and argue with people so I politely told this person that I was getting plenty of nutrients and by my great bloodwork results, my doctors agree :)

Britt, if you do have children, they may not suffer weight problems because their momma would lead by example. Nothing irritates me more than seeing overweight and obese children. No one to blame but the parents at first, then parents plus the schools, plus sue happy adults who made recess a thing of the past . But when I see little one, ugh, I have low tolerance for the excuse, "They won't eat x, y, z good foods, they only like hot dogs, cheetohs or fish crackers." Omg, how would they even know about that crap if you didn't start them on it in the first place? Lolol grrrr

Totally one of my pet peeves too... "They won't eat..." Or "They will only eat..." Whatever - you're feeding them. Such a cop-out. I don't have kids myself, but I have a 16 year old stepdaughter and my partner has 3 grandkids. The 16 year old complains about there being no "convenience" food in the house, but let me tell you, when she gets hungry, she eats those veggies or that fruit, or she actually makes herself some real food!

The grandkids are quite young (3 and 9), but if we are eating food they ALWAYS want to try what we are eating and they don't very often say they don't like something (usually they are not too happy if things are very spicy). The 9 year old LOVES my salads...

And don't even get me started on the school food - they just brought out a "traffic-light" system with the food at the "tuck shop" (aka cafeteria) and the stuff they have as green light food (eat as much as you want) would boggle your mind... At least they have taken the really bad stuff that is pure sugar off the menu, but honestly, the stuff they have left is still pretty bad.

What is wrong with people? When will they learn to leave people be about how they choose to get healthier? Glad you stepped away instead of letting them get to you. That's our sweet Brenda!!:)

That is why I like this group so much. So supportive sans judgement. Very thoughtful responses and people being very careful to respect each other. So nice.

Fried dough? Is that something sweet? I'm imagining bread dough dumped in a deep fryer and thinking it doesn't sound very appetising... hoping it's actually some delicious sweet treat? :)

Think of it like a pastry, with powdered sugar, or dipped in honey. It is very rich. I personally love it!

And wouldya look at that - it's real because it's on the internet - Fried Scones - apparently an American classic that is "popular among Utah Mormons".

I've never heard fried dough called scones. Maybe it's a regional thing? Lol

I've only ever heard it called fried dough, I didn't even know what a scone was until you posted a picture. I've heard of scones before though. Lol
