amskinner87 wrote: »Really nice to learn more about the people behind the numbers. Here's some info about me:
1. Alice or Al to my close friends
2. 31
3. Born in Bristol (UK) but brought up in Whitley Bay just north of Newcastle on the coast (or Monkseaton for @tinkerbellang83 who might actually know the area). Went to Uni in York and then moved back to Bristol straight after. I've been here ever since.
4. Sadly retired from work due to chronic health problems. When I first got sick in 2011 I was super fit and super lean but years and years of being ill have taken their toll. Now that I'm not killing myself trying to stay in work it's a good time to lose the weight.
5. I was a climate change research scientist for the Environment Agency. I worked there for nearly 10 years before I left and I honestly believe they are the best employers ever.
6. I live with my husband, our cat, occasional lodgers and sometimes foster dogs.
7. Husband and I are enthusiastic diyers. We have decorated our bedrooms and are currently designing and building all the furniture to go in them from scratch.
8. We have fostered rescue dogs including a beautiful great dane. We are having a break while we do the diy and then will either go back to that or apply to do dog boarding from home.
9. I went to my first live concert at the age of 11...my Dad took me to the Ozzfest at the Milton Keynes bowl. Sadly this was before Black Sabbath had become cool again (probably when I was 13/14) and so I got no kudos for it.
10. I used to have dreadlocks.
I do indeed know it, not that well but I know of it, I was living in Heaton and working in North Shields just before I moved to Ireland. Sorry to hear about your health problems1 -
living the lean dream
by the "deficit mindset" are you just (I say just as it is not that easy to do) not using your calories allowed for that day ? If so why don't you just (again just!) alter the weight loss regime - I have the1 lb a week setting so a massive 1800 cals. for me a day..... if it were more (1.5 lb pw) I think I get 1500, which I think at present is a tad ambitious for me as I wean myself off endless carbs and sweets but then again 1500 is more than enough for a large bag of peanut M and M's - I am sure if I divided the bag into 3 then that is the days food sorted...perhaps with a balancing glass of red to wash them down........
Am I missing something obvious here about the deficit ?

@wobblemcwobbleface Ruth was maintaining, so it's just getting back in to the losing phase for while that she's talking about.1 -
Yes Ang, you have described it perfectly For me I need to eat no more than 1600 calories to have an approx deficit of 350-400 cals ie my TDEE/maintenance cals are 1950-2000). (only do that Mon-Fri as the weekends I just NEED and WANT 2000 cals)0

@amskinner87 pleased to 'meet' you DIY jumps out at me cos I also am known to get stuck into that as well, in January we re-decorated both the kitchen and the living room - its very satisfying. Our biggest project was when our eldest moved out, we knocked the wall down between his room and ours and made one impressive master bedroom it was really hard work but it was totally worth it
Dreadlocks any photos of that style ? I think some people really rock them1 -
tinkerbellang83 wrote: »LivingtheLeanDream wrote: »I got sorted with the account, now just to add friends who are like minded...
there are several I would add to this new account, is there an easy way to add them?
You could add your other account as a friend if it's not public and then just go into the profile of your other one and do it from the Following list.
good idea thanks1 -
@tinkerbellang83 – awesome idea to ‘meet’ people more Your number 10 =ditto haha. Actually got called blunt this morning.
1. Known as Vic mainly, although I still have a friend or 2 that call me Tori
2. 32….nearly all the 3’s 33
3. Born in Coventry and lived there the vast % of my life but have also lived in York and Scarborough. Currently in Bedworth but I still count that as Cov lol
4. Love drawing and making random things (an icing stethescope for the gfs physiotherapy cake being the latest)
5. I am proud of my office monkey administrator status and my lack of desire for a career. I can make excel dance, that is enough.
6. I studied archaeology for 2 years at York Uni but the 3rd year scared me so I left and started the whole work/life thing
7. I can still name every Buffy episode and quote the majority of them word for word. I can also do this with Blackadder 2, 3 and 4
8. I have an official replica of Xena’s chakram and yes it is on display with the certificate.
9. I have worn makeup once in my life – for about 30 seconds before I made my mate ‘get it off, get it off’
10. I really don’t like children! This is controversial especially at work, when people bring kids /babies in I hide!amskinner87 wrote: »3. … Went to Uni in York and then moved back to Bristol straight after. I've been here ever since.

Oh my, I feel your pain on this one, although I don't mind a couple of my close friend's kids, I really am not at all broody. If I have to explain myself one more time in Ireland that I have never wanted kids and it won't just change when "I meet the right man" *eyeroll* you think I'd get credit for knowing my own mind by now. Never really had this issue at home, but here it's like "What?! what other purpose in life could you have other than becoming a wife and mother?" (PS. Fair play to those who do want those things, but it's not for everyone)2 -
Nice idea here, getting to know each other more..
1. My name is Bernadette, but legally that is my middle name; don't use my first name because my parents named my other 2 sisters and I with the same first name
2. 43, heading into 44 in less than a month
3. Mother of 4, two adult sons and 2 teenage daughters
4. I live in Arizona and love it - the more the sun shines and the heat is present, the happier I am
5. I have never left the country but would love to do more traveling, sooner than later
6. Married for just over 23 years
7. I enjoy being outdoors as much as possible. My favorite past-time is horseback riding, so many beautiful trails around the state
8. I come from a big family; 3 brothers and 2 sisters and we group text everyday, we're very close and I love it
9. Currently we have 4 dogs and 2 lambs at home. My daughters are raising the lambs for a project and will be selling them soon
10. Friends would call me sensible - I hated that at first, but now I find it endearing. My friends come to me for my honest opinion and what I think2 -

@4bugsmama
I am very jealous of the heat!
Where do you fancy travelling to?0 -
@tinkerbellang83 I would like to go to Hawaii, England, Canada, anywhere! I want to see what all this beautiful world has. There is so much to see and experience, I want to do it before I am too old and lose my sense of adventure, if that is even a thing3

4. Love drawing and making random things (an icing stethescope for the gfs physiotherapy cake being the latest)
"physiotherapy cake" 😂😂😂 sounds awesome
@beerfoamy sounds like we were probably at York at roughly the same time. I did Environmental Science...it was a dreadful degree but never mind. I lived in Halifax (the accommodation, not the town) for my first year and then on Hull Road. Seems a very very long time ago now. The best thing about York that I remember is the salsa scene there - I've never found anything like it since moving away and gave up eventually.

yeah lol she is in her uni 'bake off' but it has to be a physiotherapy themed cake lol
Think I was there 2004-2006. Ah Halifax! Remember watching a comedy song player there - Jay Foreman and eating nachos lol. I was in James, but our lecture halls for Archaeology were in town, so bus/walk at 8:30 3 times a week! Then I lived near Bishopthorpe Road to be bit nearer to town. I do miss York!!0 -

Losing weight is a challenge for everyone but you'll be glad you stuck with it.
yep Edinburgh is cold anytime of year, its just one of those cities, its northerly position and on the coast doesn't help but its just so beautiful. Its one of those places you can walk everywhere to.
Where are you from ?
I’m from Aberdeenshire so thankfully (or unfortunately haha)very used to the cold. I love living here really but sometimes wish I lived somewhere like Edinburgh as it’s gorgeous and travelling anywhere is so much easier from there.

Ten Facts about me:
1- My name is Lucy (likely mentioned it before but thought I should again)
2- I’m 38
3- I’m from Aberdeenshire in NE Scotland but am half Irish as mother is from County Antrim. My dream is to live in the states though!
4-I adore animals and am desperate to get a horse...or several horses. In fact, my dream is to own land and have a farm where I can have lots of animals and grow food.
5-I am very into music and am a trained singer. I sing many genres and have attended music school in London (Point Blank music school) and also the Scottish Conservatoire of Scotland as well as more local Aberdeenshire music schools.
6-I’m an historian, and specialise in Celtic history and am currently working on building a website dedicated to this.
7- I’m very interested in film and TV, especially fantasy, horror and superhero genres — I’m going to Walker Stalker convention in London at the end of this month actually
8- I am also trained in psychology. I studied post grad psychology and worked in a psychiatric hospital for a couple of years. I decided clinical psychology was too stressful a field for me so now I study psychology as an interest only.
9- I love travel but my weight has prevented me from enjoying or doing any for a long time. That’s another goal of mine — to do more travelling.
10- I recently returned to college and am studying computing. I love working with computers and am loving the course. My goal last summer was to end the year (the year would be ending in June) weighing a lot less and having several new qualifications — I’m so close to the end of that year and am on track I’m very happy to report.

Ps Co Antrim is next door to us
I'm going to have problems keeping up with all this info on everyone.

Me too but I’ve enjoyed learning a bit more about everyone.2

Morning everyone!
I didn't get a chance to check in here yesterday, how is everyone today? almost the weekend yeehaaa!
And finally my scale spike after 9 or 10 days has gone, phew! I blame hormones even though its still 2 weeks til TOM is due, with getting older these fluctuations are wilder, unexplainable and highly annoying! Anyway, so I'm back of my mid maintenance range today (I have a +/-5lbs range in maintenance).
Strength training this morning again plus a short burst of cardio - I like to get my exercise out of the way first thing.
I had one of those wanting all the foods days yesterday - succumbed to not one packet of McCoys Thai chicken crisps but TWO! but made up for it by reducing my dinner calories to 400.
I'm finishing at 2 today so I will enjoy having the afternoon off but its also a time for me to catch up on chores which today will be washing the car/vacuum it/ housework/prep casserole for tea...yeah, not much free time there but its good to be productive and busy
Have a great day everyone

I often get a spike around ovulation too which is about 2 weeks prior to TOM.
I didn't get much of a chance to check in here, was too busy battling woo on the main forum there was some rubbish being spouted on there.
The countdown to Denmark is on (travel permitting (it is Ryanair after all) leaving very early tomorrow morning.
1 -
@tinkerbellang83 hehe I see the Danish flag... and the trip is happening tomorrow yeehaa the winds are calming down so hope all will be ok for your flights - safe journey.
The forum woo I have had enough of and rarely participate these days, now I've got this thread and one in the Petites in Maintenance that's all the chit chat I need Plus I'm finding since I've gotten more vocal again on my newsfeed that I'm enjoying the interaction there too.2 -
Sorry to ask what may be a rather dull question but.......
I was playing around with the settings - really just to see if I could set at 1.5lbs a week and what that meant for the daily calories, after a split nano second, I thought much better of it (well perhaps more "sod that") and reset back to 1lb a week.
Now here's the rub - the amount of calories allowed has gone down, ok only by 30cal which is not much I know, but, I feel robbed. Do the calories allowed reset to the current weight? does this programme automatically do this? As (if....no as!) I loose weight am I allowed less and less? If so says this dullard, this is going to get harder to follow, at some point it will dust on cardboard for me....
W1 -
@wobblemcwobbleface yes as your weight reduces the calories will reflect that and will reduce from memory I think it automatically reduces it when you change your weight, but I'm sure someone else will confirm that - I've been in maintenance so long I kinda forget the gist of it. It will never reduce to less than 1200 though because that is the least recommended amount of cals. But as you get nearer to goal weight, i.e within 20lbs then you can change it to 0.5lb a week and you'll feel not so bad cos automatically you will get some extra cals that way - plus it gets you in the mindset for maintaining.0
-
@wobblemcwobbleface
I used a TDEE calculator to decide how many calories I should be eating and then changed my MFP settings to reflect it. That way you don't have to rely on MFPs dodgy exercise calorie calculations and I generally think it's a bit more acurate. MFP had me doing a very low calorie count of 1260 originally when even my BMR was around 1700 - no wonder I was super hungry and headachy.
That won't be the way that works for everyone, but just letting you know that it is an option.
I use https://tdeecalculator.net1
