@elise4270 - resisting sugar is a good thing! I'm trying my best to do the same!
@quilteryoyo - I was observed on Friday in my AP Comp Sci class. It went fine and the kids were really good (they are always good I guess). For me, since no one understand programming who does observations I no longer stress about it. But for many years I would get really nervous whenever someone came in the room. Now, I don't care! I know I'm doing what's best for the kids.
    @shanaber -Sorry about car!

The chili was good last night. DH said it gets better every time. I never added up the calories for it because it changes every time I make it. And, how many servings is it? who knows! Depends upon how hungry I am. I'm not going to divide that pot into equal servings. When I first started with MFP I probably would have but now I'm fine with estimating. I have been really hungry today and yesterday. Been good with sticking to my usual snacks of fruit and one Cliff Kidz Z bar. But I may have to eat two bars today. It's only 9 and I'm hungry after just eating one.

Can't remember if I mentioned that my mom is doing Weight Watchers (again). She is the queen of yoyo-ing. (And a quilter also) . Anyway, she can have unlimited fruit on WW. I find that very odd. I mean, come one, fruit has calories! But I have been using it as an excuse to eat more fruit when I'm hungry. I'm obsessed with watermelon (and it's hard to find a good one this late in year), bananas, blueberries (frozen) and apples. I should mix it up, but those are my go-to fruits! It seems to be working and I feel happy that I'm getting my potential required # of servings of fruit. I do have a few grapes in my salad.

I'm so tired. I think I'm still surgery "drunk". Gah, gimme some pie and let me nap. I still have a headache, it could be just allergies though.

Had coffee, McDonald's quarter pounder for lunch... Dinner should be pie. Half frozen pecan pie or lemon meringue... probably will be peach marmalade and almond butter on bread though. Close enough.

    What's for dinner?

Pie! I remember you love pie! I’m a chocolate person and there are not great chocolate pies IMHO. So brownies and cookies are my downfall and straight up chocolate! I do like pecan during Thanksgiving!

Same as yesterday. My summer chili. I definitely get in a rut with meals! But I’m okay with it.

@ddmom0811 I hope your mom can find something that works for her that she can stick with. I have found over the years that no "diet" will work for me. I just won't stick to cutting out foods that I like. I'm not sure I have found something that I can stick with, but I now know what works for me. It's just restricting portion sizes, eating a wider variety of foods (include more veggies and fruit), and running. No other form of exercise seems to work for me. I have gone up and down with this plan, but only because I quit running, for whatever reason. Then, when I quit running, I seem to quit watching what I eat too. So, it's a double whammy. I'm determined to stick with it this time, at least enough to stay within my healthy BMI range.

I'm glad your observation went well! Sounds like you have the right attitude. This is only the second time I've had to do anything like that. For daycare, they really do listen to everything and watch everything, and look at everything in the room. Did we use positive language? Did we ask leading questions to the older children? Did we give them choices? How did we handle disruptive behaviors and arguments between the children? Did they wash their hands at the times they were supposed to? Did we have them wash their hands if they picked their nose? Did we see them pick their nose? The list goes on and on. I just tried to pretend they weren't there and do things, mostly, as I do every day. But, it is stressful.

@Elise4270 I do hope you get to feeling better. It's been ages since I have gone to McDonald's for anything. I just don't really like their food. When it comes to burgers, I prefer Wendy's. As you may recall, my fast food restaurant of choice is Taco Bell.

The daycare bought all of the teachers lunch today, for surviving yesterday's assessment without any violations. I had half of a subway ham sandwich, Dorito's, and a couple of Nabisco chocolate chip cookies. Turned out to be not horrible in calories - at least not per the estimations that I did. Tonight, after I ran, I had a piece of cheese toast and some leftover homemade strawberry cobbler that my mom had for lunch on Sunday. I'm under my calorie goal, so I'm good.

@quilteryoyo Your not alone on the taco Bell. My DD loves it. I use to tease her it was cat food. I like taco casa. But if I'm out, (class) I go to McDonald's, cheap quick and seems clean enough. I just save the fries for the cat, well dogs really. But the fat cat gets a few.

Dinner was pie. Pizza pie. No idea tomorrow's lunch. There are cuties and cheese sticks which may suffice.

We are home finally! Got into Reno late yesterday after the late start. I took Hobbes the Vizsla to the park and discovered a dog park we didn't know about. He had an absolute blast running around like a crazy boy and even went into the water with a bunch of other pups (there is a creek off the river that goes around 3 sides of the dog park). I have not seen him run and zoom like that in a while with a look of pure joy on his face. It was great.

If you zoom in on the next 2 pictures, Hobbes is out in front of the pack running as fast as he can!

Car fix was ok - it was a light issue in the back of the car that drained the battery and everything else checked out fine. This morning we just walked a bit and headed off for the long drive home - about 10 hours with a couple of stops.
I need to shop as we have little food in the fridge. Had cheese and salami and a glass of wine for dinner. We leave a week from tomorrow for a trip to the east coast with friends. Not looking forward to traveling again but excited to see our friends and have some fun exploring NJ and NYC. I may cook some chicken and/or a pork tenderloin in the IP for the next few days. I don't want to do/have too much that won't get eaten before we leave.

I don't eat fast food I guess unless you consider Panera which we do have pretty often. Subway would be ok - I had a salad from there when we were in Boise because it was the only option at the time. I haven't had McD's in years, don't care for Wendy's or Taco Bell... maybe Del Taco or In&Out once in a very great while. I think dh finds it very frustrating that I won't eat at these places like he does.

@shanaber Glad the car fix was something simple. Also glad you found that dog park. Hobbes seems so happy running around!

@shanaber - love those dog park pics! Beautiful! I have a lot of Panera. The calories are quite helpful. I know you aren't a vegetarian, but even before I was one I never cared for the chicken on their salads. At some Paneras you can get a "quinoa/tomato mix" in place of the chicken. It's a little more expensive but I think it's great.

@Elise4270 - you tricked me with the pizza pie! I never call a pizza a pie like New Yorkers do. ;)

@quilteryoyo - Agree with you on dieting - they just don't work! The whole reason I went on MFP was that I was doing some diet (forgot which one) and you weren't allowed to have watermelon for some "scientific reason". I was losing but one day I thought - F THIS! Watermelon is one of the healthiest foods, I'm going to just eat whatever I want and only count calories! I have since made healthier choices but at first, that's the route I took!

Since getting rid of the temporary wedding feast weight gain I've made no progress. I can't remember to log after I get home, I can't shake this craving for sweets (I've cracked the seal on the Halloween candy already... The big Costco deluxe chocolate one) and there are two many mindless snacks around the house! Time for some day-by-day self discipline.

@ddmom0811 that chili looks FAB! We like edamame at our house but only eat it plain, with salt. I'll have to try it in chili like that.

When I make a big pot of something like that I use the MFP recipe calculator thing to enter all the ingredients with calories (skipping seasonings, spices, water, etc), weigh the entire batch, then however many ounces of food there is, that's the number of servings I enter. This makes it easy to log later. Let's say I come up with a total of 3000 calories and it weighs 100 ounces. I enter the number of servings in this case as 100 since there are 100 ounces. In this case a one ounce serving = 30 calories. When I eat it, I weigh my portion and the number of ounces = the number of services, so an 8 ounce bowl would equal 8 servings x 30 calories/serving = 240 calories. The trick is to remember to weight it after I cook it, and before anyone eats any.

    Ella is such a cutie!!

@Elise4270 thankfully there's no pie around here! For dinner tonight it's whatever the soccer team leaves behind. I volunteered to host the team dinner tonight (at the school, thankfully) and we're doing build-your-own subs along with potato salad, cesear salad, cookies, milk, chocolate milk, and Arnie Palmers. For the subs I bought high quality sliced meat from Costco...the kind they cut from actual roasts and not chopped and formed into uniform shapes and prepped a ton of veggies for it. Hopefully there's a lot of that meat left over I can take home, it would make fantastic paninis. I was going to go the easy route and just order Jimmy John's but my son is super picky and hates any veggies on his sandwiches and I figured there are probably more like him.

@shanaber welcome home! Glad the car fix was simple. What a great time for Hobbes! Those dogs look like they're running full speed!

I have two venison roasts thawed out. I'm going to try to make venison carnitas sometime this week. And I need to get veggies back into my life!

Had a stressful day at work today, so stress eating tonight. I know I shouldn't, but, hey, it is what it is. At least it is just a bag of cheddar popcorn - a big bag.

@7lenny7 - now how did I never think of just weighing the whole thing?! I have entered all the ingredients before and then just estimated the servings! Now I shall be obsessed with that! Put away that candy! I never buy Halloween candy that early for that reason!

I avoided the candy last night! And though I didn't log my evening I'm fairly certain I didn't go over given my run last night. Today should be good to. No running but I'll go straight from work to soccer and won't get home until after 10pm so there will just be a 1 hour window of temptation.

Yesterday after my run I stopped at a service station which we pass on the way home, which also claims to be an Indian buffet and grocery. I’ve been meaning to stop there for years and never gotten around to it - never know what you’ll find at a gas station around here, Cousin’s in Piperton legit has the best fried chicken in the metro area, and the station at the corner of Poplar and Ridgeway has better sushi than many high end restaurants. There’s a station in midtown which is famous for its soul food, and one out in Eads which is famous for ham sandwiches. They smoke their own ham. So anyway I stuck my nose in the door and the owner/cook was obviously delighted to see a potental customer and insisted I take some of everything and packed it nicely in a selection of little cups and boxes. Beautiful basmati rice which he insisted on getting fresh from the back, although I apologized and explained I can’t eat much rice because of being diabetic. Saved a few carbs for the naan, which was clearly freshly made - gave most of it to my husband but ate about a quarter piece - not a huge selection of food but what there was, was good - some sort of butter chicken-like curry dish, with both chicken and vegetarian paneer versions, a fish and peppers dish, really spicy goat stew, aloo gobi, lentil soup, sambar, sweet carrot-based dessert. More or less like eating at someone’s house in terms of attention to detail and spice level, nicely authentic, I get the idea not too many Anglos go in there.

It was a very nice supper, will have to do that again! And my blood glucose stayed low, despite my concerns about having eaten too much rice.

@7lenny7 Venison carnitas! Now I have venison envy. You always eat the best sounding food.

Oh @rheddmobile, now I am hungry for Indian food! We have lots of Indian restaurants but most are not great. The best I have had is a tiny place in downtown LA but it isn't worth the trip to drive there. They have wonderful butter chicken and naan and so many other things!

@Elise4270 - the best falafel I ever had was at a booth on the local college campus here many years ago (I was just out of HS that is how long it has been). I don't think most people had any idea what it was but they sold a ton of it, freshly cooked, to the students who were daring enough to try something different

@ddmom0811 - @7lenny7's method is how I get the calories for my homemade granola too. I weigh the bowl ahead of time and put all the granola in it after it has cooled a bit, weigh it and then packaged it for storage. I also don't buy halloween candy until the week we need it although dh bugs me to buy it every time we walk into Costco. If I did I would just have to buy more and he definitely doesn't need it.

Weighed myself this morning and I was down a pound from where I was before the trip. I was pretty excited because I ate things I normally wouldn't have with driving and eating out and then pre and post race eating. I am back now to eating my usual and logging again. Hope I do as well on our next trip, next week.

@7lenny7 - venison carnitas does sound wonderful. Wish my mom would have made something interesting like that for us with some of the venison we had.

@rheddmobile - I want Indian food now too! Yum!
I think I will have to make my Vegetarian Korma this weekend! https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/60598/vegetarian-korma/ Of course I make a lot of changes. I understand Korma is not supposed to be spicy but I add extra peppers and tons of curry. Then I don't use the heavy cream this recipe says, I use coconut milk (low fat usually).

Naan is my favorite with Indian.
    @shanaber - yay down a pound!
@7lenny7 - what does shoot the girls game mean?
@elise4270 - LOL you get as excited for food as me!

Oh! Somehow after all these years (5?) I never knew you did photography!

@RunsOnEspresso - yep, we get it!

Had an awesome bike ride today - 45 miles and we had a lot of tailwind which is unusual for this ride. I want to lift now, but going to hold off since I did arms yesterday and legs need to be fresh for tomorrow's ride!

I got stung by a bee in my finger. And it still hurts. I never actually saw the bee. I had just gone to the front and was pulling (there are about 24 of us in a double pace line and everyone takes turns being in the lead, or pulling) and all of a sudden I felt this sharp pain in my finger. AHHHH I scream - the guy next to me panics! After a couple miles when I went to the back of the line, I looked and saw a big swelling on finger. It hurt the whole way and still does. When I got home I took benadryl and now took advil. I wonder if it was something in my glove ... but this was about 10 miles in, so if so, it wouldn't have waited that long. So it had to be something flew into me I guess. I feel like such a wimp, people get stung all the time and carry on. But my finger is swollen. I shall survive!

I bought a smoothie on the way home - Island Green w/pea protein. It was a 900 calorie burn. But even so, you can't really eat it all back. Well you CAN, and I COULD easily! But I won't.

I find I'm getting bad about hydration. I wonder if it's age, the thirst response diminishes. I had DH buy G2 so id drink more. He also busy fizzy water, which is nice to make a G2 cocktail with (no EtOH).

I have a favorite insulated bottle I dedicate to water and no calorie drinks. it helps encourage me to drink more, as long as I fill it. I've even dropped frozen blueberries and strawberries in it.

    Food...

Sunday so I want fried chicken, then I remember all the healthy food @7lenny7 @ddmom0811 are having... So... Maybe I'll put a soup on. We bought now pots and pans yesterday. The last set was fairly new, but we're the wrong choice for our habits and the glass top cook surface.

I'm looking forward to cooking a bit. Maybe curry or korma! Mmm! Definitely korma I'd we have everything. Mine will be served with chicken on the side though and yellow rice.

@quilteryoyo - I do drink a lot of water. I got in the habit years ago when I would keep a large (36oz) container on my desk at work and challenge myself to drink 2 of them each day (fill it in the morning and again at lunch). Now I only drink water (and coffee in the morning and well wine...) no sodas or juices. I also get the Kirkland sparkling water at Costco and occasionally La Croix but it is just so expensive. I have gotten to where I pretty much don't go anywhere without a bottle of water because I get thirsty - guess I have trained my body into wanting it. I have insulated bottles too that will keep ice water with ice in it for a couple of days that we use especially when we travel. I like to put lemon or orange slices in it and sometimes even cucumber.

I made tuna salad yesterday for lunch. We had a couple of wraps left but no lettuce, pickles or anything else. There were cheese crunchies from TJs left (like crumbs mostly) because dh had eaten them all. What was left were stale and inedible so I had to throw them out. I literally had the tuna salad on the wrap and that was it, blah! I stopped at the grocery and got lettuce and pickles and other veggies. Didn't want to get too much because we leave again Wednesday morning. Dinner was TJs Chinese with plain asian veggies. The entrees were small portions because I had split the bags the first time we made it so we could get 2 meals out of them, but I made up for it with tons of veggies. Tonight is bbq - my bil is coming over and dh wanted to smoke ribs but there would be too much leftover so we are going to our favorite bbq place and getting it instead.

I lost 2 more pounds and am now down 10 from the beginning of the year and at my lowest weight since July 2017! I am beginning to think that 135 is possible again...
