@ddmom0811 Thanks. Sounds like you had a great ride! Happy Birthday, again! I'm pretty sure birthday cake has zero calories.

@ddmom0811 - I agree with @quilteryoyo! Birthday cake has no calories!!

Also we are triplets - I hit 2000 in 9 days!!

We went to my favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner tonight and I had a beer and carnitas. Not sure if it was the beer or what but I just wasn't hungry. I ate a bit of the carnitas and brought the rest home. It will be good for a dinner or lunch next week.

HaHa! That's right @shanaber! we're like the Golden Girls of MFP! @quilteryoyo , where are you? I guess you can be the youngest... ;)

@ddmom0811 I am working on the prerequisites for three programs, only one is an advanced degree, PA. That's my long shot. I am not even going to work myself up over that one because the odds are so slim. But now compared to the one with 6-9 spots, its actually statistically plausible. It's kinda funny, DH waffles just as much as i do hoping for one one week another the next. An email went out to all the declared 6-9 majors, and there were 12 recipients plus myself, who isn't declared. SO, DH is actually pulling for another program for me now, thinks this 6-9 one, i might as well hang up. *shrugs* There are still interviews. They all may fall through. I'm just trying to stay calm. My doc told me about how he struggled in college, then failed his boards the first try. The conversation was centered around DD, but i find it enough reason to pull myself up by my bootstraps now and again. He said " its not the failure that defines you, its what you do with it".

    @shanaber I want carnitias!

Ugh I'm still trying to get caught behind on my calories. I ate so much the last few day my body decided to use it for a period. yay.

We made more korma yesterday and had it today too. There is also bread left, so that's been an indulgence.

I ordered shoes last week. Then ordered another pair after talking to my runner violin instructor and loving her shoes. hehe. Ya'll ever wear these allbirds? they look nice and comfy. I'm interested in the wool shoes they sell too.

ETA omg, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sharon! Birthday cake, pie, cookies, brownies, m&m's... are all calorie free! oh birthday wine is too.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you my good news. I was below 150 pounds this morning, 149.4. It's been 6 years since I've been at this point. I'm excited. Even though I'm not logging everything I eat, just be more aware of it and exercising more seems to be working. I have been between 150 and 155 for the last 6 months. Glad to finally break that barrier. I'd love to lose another 10 - 15 pounds and keep it off.

Congratulations! Keep the momentum! I saw your food/exercise related post in the running thread. I don't know where you can cut processed foods... erm *whispers* taco bell... HAHAHAHA! no I'm just teasing you! Eat taco bell if you want! I think you'll get where you want if you just plan your meals and stay active. You've already made that happen! Just keep it going. I'm so bad at seeing the scale drop and immediately go buy ice cream or pie or taco casa or mcdonalds... beer, BBQ...

@elise4270 - I hope you get the one you want the most!
@shanaber - wow triplets we are! LOL

Had a nice time at son's and with granddaughter. She's almost walking! Any day now I would think.

Yesterday I put together my new weight rack (well, DH did most of it). I could have, but why should I? Rearranged the room and then did lifting and then went on treadmill for just about 30 mins of intervals.

We went to The Garlic last night (New Smyrna Beach restaurant). You sort of go there more for the atmosphere than the food but it was really good last night. I could tell it was salty and I figured I'd be up today -- but I was up 3 pounds! I was already up 2 pounds from all the birthday activities. Well, it's okay, I know it will go down this week. Except I leave Thursday for Portland... so not sure what disasters will ensue on the scale upon my return home the following Wednesday! I know I can run in the nice temps out there and will take a break from lifting.

Back to the normal routine the next 3 1/2 days!
Yogurt or Oatmeal / Salad / healthy dinner!

If you are talking about the number of days you've signed into MFP in a row, I'm at 1028, so I could be the daughter. LOL

Thanks for the weight loss support too. I know me and I know I no longer want to go on any kind of diet, per se. Trying to not overeat and exercising are where I am. At age 60, I refuse to cut out any given food group that I love. I'm a carbaholic and I like it.

@quilteryoyo - totally agree with that mentality. Yes that’s what we meant - # days.

I had to stay late at school today for something and so on the way home I decided to go to Panera. I only wanted the autumn squash soup. I love it and it just came back apparently. I got a bowl and jeez— 17 g fat! I only look at calories usually but when I logged it Mfp warned me. Funny didn’t warn me about the chocolate chipper I got! They are making it smaller and it went down from 440 to 380. Not sure I believe it. Or maybe I just got a really chocolately one. Still under my goal but feeling quite decadent.

Hit my calorie goal head on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and then didn't log a BITE on Sunday. Race days are like birthdays, right - calories don't count? Hah. Trying to decide about taking myself out to dinner tonight or not, which will probably determine whether I meet my goal. I'll log it either way!

Trying to catch up! Happy belated birthday @ddmom0811 , congrats @quilteryoyo for breaking your plateau @Elise4270 hoping for the best for Alex, I have a whole side of my family with addiction problems and it’s hard watching them and knowing they have to help themselves, beyond a certain point there’s nothing you can do.

Did someone mention carnitas? Because I ate all the carnitas. All. The. Carnitas. Saturday was the catfish festival, ate brisket tacos plus tasted lots of catfish at the catfish judging, plus some catfish adjacent foods such as fried okra and breaded fried alligator. Despite stuffing myself all day Saturday, Sunday I woke up with something like a 2000 calorie surplus from all the trotting around we did at the festival, so we had carnitas chile verde delivered. Then my husband decided to eat leftover pizza so I ate all of them. I was so stuffed and woke up a pound heavier. But theoretically I was still under calories, so it should pass.

Today I’m trying to eat within respectable limits again. Did some lifting, had a modest portion of leftover spaghetti and meatballs with a big salad and lots of spinach. Dinner is going to be something light like Greek yogurt with fruit.

In other news, someone flipped a switch and suddenly it’s autumn here! It’s about time! Two signs of autumn - my husband and I were awakened last night by the screams of a tiny creature being brutally murdered by our cats. We have lovely wild mice which live in the field out back and don’t usually come inside except in autumn when the weather changes. Then they quickly figure out they have made an error. The other sign, I saw a titmouse at my feeder today! I’m so delighted, I was friends with a titmouse all last spring and then the weather turned hot and they all moved on. The one we used to see kept me company when I was injured and unable to run, it was a great comfort. I don’t know that this is the same titmouse, but he flew up and looked closely at me before visiting the feeder, so he’ll do!

@ddmom0811 Being under goal after being decadent is a win, for sure!

@MegaMooseEsq You are correct. Race day calories don't count.

And, @Elise4270 guess what I had for dinner tonight. A Taco Bell Chicken Burrito. You just had to bring it up, didn't you? LOL I took dad to the Veteran's hospital for a follow up today and we stopped on the way back. We wanted something quick and weren't in the mood for chicken or close to a burger place. It was the best choice for me.

I will be way under on my calories today as I did a 4 mile run this morning along with a mile walk and expended 505 calories! Ate basically like normal. I'll bank those calories for when I overeat some day.

@shanaber Best of luck to Hobbes and you and his vet.

    Food complaints.
I’m up 4+ pounds this week. Sure it’s Tom, but the horrible food I eat doesn’t help. No plans today past coffee. Maybe I’ll just have a tuna sandwich. Tomorrow is Yom Kippur, a fast day. I may embrace it. Of course, I won’t be spending the day in prayer so it feels a little blasphemous to “observe” it at all. But, hey, why not.

@ddmom0811 I watched “Inside Bills Brain”. I think I love bill gates and wanna be him. He should be our president,

@shanaber - well, those days happen. Sounds awkward for sure. I hope Hobbes is okay. Sounds like a nice little trip though!
@elise4270 - I was done with TOM when I finally got healthy and fit, so no experience with it. Had an endometrial ablation and then I never had to deal with it again. Although I definitely had the mood swings for a while!
But I now from my weekends of cycling so much that up four pounds isn't awful. Do they really fast the whole day or is it like the Catholic fasting? (no snacks and minimal food at meals?)

Looks like the temps are going to be nice and cool in Portland when I get there tomorrow night!

    Elise4270 Posts: 8,375 Member
I didn’t fast. I’m too stressed not to eat. I did pass on the burger and had a subway tuna, my classmate still had 2 burgers and fries today. This kid. She’s like 5 ft tall and weighs a popcorn fart. I feel like Paul Bunyan next to her. Haha!

No idea what’s for dinner. There maybe a frozen pizza and I know there’s beer. I had a good day, figured out some of my biochemistry, had a good violin lesson, micro? Uhhhh today’s long, I went to class.... uhhhh well, it wasn’t bad. 🤔. What did we do?

@ddmom0811 yes the fast is sundown to sundown, nada.

@elise4270 - Paul Bunyan! Popcorn Far! LOL

I'm back to my pre-birthday weight and now I leave this afternoon to see daughter and there will be plenty of eating and wine! But there will be running as well!

@elise4270 - Love your descriptions! I suspect Ms. Popcorn Fart may burn off a lot but isn't really healthy. What did they use to call that, skinny fat or something like that?

@ddmom0811 - have a great visit with your daughter and some awesome cool weather running! Hopefully it isn't too wet while you are there. Portland is such a foodie city and has so many great places to eat so enjoy!

Today was a great day in all aspects. The hotel has an awesome buffet breakfast so I had a great breakfast. Then I went for a walk/hike in the preserve with Hobbes. Dh didn't want to go but dropped us off at the entrance to the bluff trail. I thought I could do that trail, circle around and then go up the hill to some of the other trails and into the forest. Unfortunately I couldn't find the other trails to go up so we just made a loop around and then went back a little ways along the bluff when Dh came to pick us up. It was gorgeous (pictures below the cut)!!
The restaurant was closed for lunch when we got back so we went to a little store and got cheese, salami, crackers and trail mix and sat out on the patio from our room with a glass of wine. Dinner will be in the hotel restaurant which is reasonably priced, grow their own organic herbs and veggies and has a great menu.

Ya @shanaber this lucky girl is not skinny fat. She has a 9-10 month old.. ya no baby weight. Ugh. I still have baby weight 24 years later. Dd and I chalked it up to lucky genetics, and that super microbiome gut! I didn’t ask her if she exercised. She may.

I’m testing my mortal limits today. I had pizza, burger and fries... my mantra should be “I am not a teenager”. Ok. Tomorrow I will make up for it. I will. I will.

    Today is the day.

As I lay in bed last night, I could just feel those fat cells swelling up like a happy tick that found a tasty dog.

I have some undoing to do, so I'm going to restrict my calories, a novel idea, by adding dummy filler calories in my diary. So just for waking up, I get 500 calories. Call it carry over, or what have ya, but I'm going to do a few days of this and see if I can't get back in track.

I ate that pizza last night only because it was there. I wasn't hungry. I need to get on this. DH said he's gained 10-15 pounds in the last year. Meh, quit buying pizza. Even if I ask for it.

Let's get too it. Or not.. let's pass over it! Haha! Happy Friday.

@elise4270 - lol I had the pregyweighr for that long as well! I lost it a few times and gained it back over and over. This last six years has been the successful one and it was all because I decided to stop crazy fad diets and eat what I want and count the calories! I hope you have a good day today! Just look at it as one day at a time!

@shanaber. Thanks. Having fun! It is a foodie city! I didn’t realize it. She lives in Slabtown and my hotel is in Pearl district. I love it here! Had a great run and tomorrow we will run the river I think. I love the picture. Especially you and Hobbes! His face and expression is always adorable.

Tonight is a birthday dinner. A week later. Lol.

    Day 1 of starting anew.

Nope. I just over ate by 500 calories today. Maybe I’ll gain momentum. We need to go buy a new food scale, dh just microwaved the old one. Now my house smells like someone (dh) microwaved a plastic swimming pool. I’ll die of microwaved cancer now. Maybe the new scale will entice me to use it and make needed adjustments.

Dd just told me that a new trail system was opened or will be opened this Tuesday, it links to the old one, she says it’s 10 miles. Idk if that’s 10 new miles, or 10 total. Anyway, when I can run/bike... it’ll be there. Yay!

...and I got my new allbirds shoes. I’m liking them about a 7/10.. I think they bump to a 9 or 10 when I get the lacing dialed in.

I am sitting on the deck of our hotel room having finished a delicious salad with grilled chicken (and a few onion rings) while dh had pizza. He is now taking a nap and I am sitting here with my Hobbes, enjoying the view and sounds of the forest and watching the hawks. A red tail landed in a tree right in front of us but I didn't't have my phone in time to get a picture other than in my mind... he was beautiful! I just can't describe how lovely and relaxing it is and I think I never want to leave...
We have a big (prime rib) dinner tonight with the Navy crowd. Not my favorite group... primarily old and if they aren't they think and act like they are. Dh is having a good time with his old buddies though and that is what counts.
Before that though we are going to the Red Moose Cookie Company. Feels kind of weird that I am excited to go there 😁
Once they all get loaded onto my PC I will post some pictures from my run this morning - part trail, part ocean boardwalk. So fun and the views were magnificent! Wish I could run here all the time!

@Elise4270 - when do you see the doctor again? Will he clear you to be more active then? I think once you can be more active it won't be such a struggle with calories or eating better foods.
I need to look at the Allbirds and see what they are - I am not familiar with them.

    @ddmom0811 - enjoy that birthday (month)! 🥳

I see the doc again in November. I don't know about upping any activity then. I expect I'll be ready for PT. I am having pain on the opposite side, which may keep me from doing much. I find short strides keep it at bay.

I want prime rib and birthday food. Mmm. Y'all lucky. I had ramen and not so great banana bread DH bought at a bake sale.

I gained a few tenths of a pound this week, so am at 150.0, exactly. Really? Was hoping to stay below that number, once I got there last week...I'm just going to pretend it was 149.96, so MFP rounded up. LOL

@quilteryoyo Hang in there . The scale could be down a pound tomorrow!

    Today’s plans.
    Coffee
    Study
Dh has family in from Washington, so he wants to visit. I’m near panic mode because I planned study time already.
I should put I a nice chicken mulligatawny soup again.
I added the 500 calories again today, this is gonna be the day. Although my scale is still up.

Thanks @Elise4270 . I'm not really worried about it. I'm pretty sure I didn't have a BM yesterday, so that could be part of it. LOL I'm just sticking to my plan. Would love to have the bouncing around start being between 145 and 150 though. (Instead of between 150 and 155.)

We are back and getting ready to start a really busy week. My running days are all messed up because of travel and now all the appointments and things for the next few days. I also need to go grocery shopping and to Costco. Being gone so much the last few weeks and not shopping at all in between means our cupboards are bare and the fridge and freezer are pretty much empty. I want to make spaghetti sauce and chicken and pork chops and mashed potatoes... hmm I do have some frozen chicken breasts so maybe I will do something in the IP for dinner tonight. Need to get planning again.

@Elise4270 - hope it all worked out with the family visit and your studying so you won't be too stressed out this next week!
@quilteryoyo - I hate that same bouncing around too! I have not weighed myself yet so no idea what damage the travel has done this go round. Hopefully my hiking and long run helped offset it a bit.

We did go to the Red Moose Cookie company on Friday and they were Sold.Out!! so we went back first thing Saturday morning before the drive home and they still had a few left. The guy helping us in the store literally had to keep running into the bakery part to check on the cookies in the oven. They smelled fantastic and we bought pretty much some of every kind. Damn cookie baking wonderful smells!

@shanaber Glad you made it home and had a great trip. I'm sure the hiking and long run will put a big dent in the extra cookie calories. I think I'm gaining weight from just reading about them.

Still in Portland and loving it here. It is usually around 48-49 in the morning and gets up to 60 in the day. We went to two wineries yesterday which was a lot of fun. I'm certainly no expert - but it was fun enjoying all the fall trees and scenery with the wine!
The hotel I am at has a buffet breakfast and I've been doing that. I'm pretty good at those type of breakfasts - I mean good at avoiding the junk. I usually go straight for hard boiled eggs, fruit, toast, sometimes oatmeal. Lunch has been relatively healthy most days. Dinner and dessert have been whatever I feel like/wherever we go - so not so good.
But, I have been running each day. Going out for one soon. My daughter is not running as much as she used to so she's only been with me once so far and will probably go tomorrow. We walk a ton each day too!

This hotel has a scale in the gym (I lifted once so far) and it shows all kinds of stats with one's weight. I tried it and was happy to see it shows 23% fat. My home scale, which only shows weight and fat always says I am at 33-35% so I enjoyed seeing that lower fat number. I never believed that home fat number so I didn't really worry about it. This hotel scale showed water percentage and a few other numbers - but there was no explanation of what the other numbers were. Funny thing is before I left I ordered a new scale for home which should be there when I get back. It was under $25 and has those readings and has good reviews (although who can believe the reviews) so I shall see how it compares. I saw an article about home scales which prompted me to order the new one.

@7lenny7 - I saw your 46 mile run on Strava - time to eat!

    shanaber Posts: 6,423 Member
Well I was supposed to get up and run early to start my day and nope, didn't happen... turned off the alarm and slept another hour (almost 9 hours!) Guess I was tired. I have a dermatologist appointment this morning and DH is taking our friend to her appointment at the same time then he wants to go see Downton Abbey. We have never watched the TV program so I am not sure we will understand the movie but maybe... I am just going to avoid the popcorn. Then we need to do some shopping and hopefully I will get a short run in.

I took chicken out for dinner with some extra to grill for lunches. I saw some great recipes for lunches with chicken and it inspired me.
My weight is up a little, about 2 lbs over the last 2 trips but I know some if not all of that is the normal travel bloat and will be gone within a day or two as I get back to my schedule and eating normal foods again.

@quilteryoyo - so far I have been good with the cookies. I have only had a small piece of one since we have been home and I am going to freeze the rest.

@ddmom0811 - I haven't tried the scales at the gym but my nutritionist had an In-Body scale that was the equivalent of the Dexa scans. It was pretty fascinating all the information it even showed how much extra and intra cellular water you had, essentially how dehydrated you were. On my scale at home I ignore the body fat % but take note of the amount of change. I know the percentages are way off but I care about the relative change up or down.
Also I think the most important thing to be a 'wine expert' is knowing what you like. If you like it, it's good, if you don't, it isn't. Doesn't matter what anyone else says or thinks about it.

    @7lenny7 - I agree with @ddmom0811! Time to eat!!

I posted my Cambria pictures in the challenge thread if you all want to see them. There are some on Strava too...
