@elise4270 - one day at a time girl. Stress is probably the main enemy for overeating. And celebrations. And boredom!

@shanaber - interesting on the gym. I love my home gym so much! For my birthday I am getting a stand to hold the dumbells and the plates. I think if I didn't use different apps and books to lift, I wouldn't like it so much because I wouldn't know what I was doing. BTW, you know how I had my trainer for 2.5 years? We stayed in contact the last 3 years since I stopped using him. Would only text maybe once every 6 months just to say hi, and that was it. All of a sudden he started hitting on me! Said he always had a crush, etc. I had to block him on my phone due to a pic he sent that was nothing I wanted to see... think Anthony Weiner. WTH! He's only a couple years older than my son which I told him and said "I'VE BEEN MARRIED ALMOST 34 YEARS!" It's been almost 2 months since I blocked him and nothing has happened so I guess he got the hint.

Yesterday I had all repeat meals. Yogurt / Salad / Summer Chili. Did okay on snacking too. Banana, Kidz Clif Bar, and nuts.

Had a protein shake after I ran this morning with a frozen banana and just a teaspoon of PB. 1 teaspoon isn't enough to flavor it, FYI. I usually had 2 TB but I thought I'd test out less.

Had oatmeal for breakfast and not sure what will happen for lunch because I have a meeting from 9:30-12:30 and then a class to teach at 12:40. I will have to snack a lot or I'll be starving.

DH is tired of the chili and said let's go out tonight. OK, but has to be somewhere healthy because tomorrow we eat at The Columbia for my birthday and I will probably bring in cookies or something for my students so I don't want to eat a lot today!

I updated my MFP profile with weights and goal and it says I should eat 2050 calories a day. Wow. I probably accidentally each that much anyway with the little things I don't add in.

@ddmom0811 He should be careful with those photos. More cities/states are making it a crime to send unsolicited photos.

I have heard the thing about the gym before but I think it can apply to any location you frequent, not just home. I used to belong to a gym that was just down the road from my park n ride. It was so easy to go after work. When it closed they transferred our memberships to another gym and I promptly cancelled because I knew that location was not convenient. I also worked out at a gym for a while that was a block from work. It was small and I quit when I started not being able to get machines/weights I wanted because too many people were going after work.

@elise4270 - is there something you can do for the stress? I know running, biking, etc. are the 1st things that come to mind and those are out for now. But maybe some meditation, deep breathing, etc. where you just let everything go and your mind goes to Hawaii or somewhere peaceful and calm without all the things you are worrying about?

@ddmom0811 - OMG! well I guess it is kind of a compliment, maybe, sort of... but a gross one at that!
Also I use 1TB of peanut butter in my smoothies any less than that and I can't tell it is there.

@RunsOnEspresso - I agree on the gym locations and the equipment. I kept my Planet Fitness membership because it was so close and when they closed and transferred us I also knew it was too far and I wouldn't drive there. They are opening a Gold's gym in the old PF location and I think I will join it because it is close and they have lots of classes. I drive about 12 miles to my strength training gym but that is only because my trainer is there. I don't pay for the gym (well I do and he takes it out of my monthly session cost) because he knows I won't go there to just work out, it is too far and I usually have another membership.

We are home now for about a week until our next and final trip for a while. I am not sure why they all ended up so close in September/October but I will be glad to just be home. We had a blast in NJ and as expected it was a total wine and food fest... I did try to eat somewhat healthy but sometimes it was just impossible.

I am heading out for a short run, then I have to drive to San Diego to pick up Hobbes. Miss my running buddy!

I'm still hovering around 214, still sneaking halloween candy, still not properly logging after I get home at night, and still not making progress.

And my venison carnitas was terrible.

@ddmom0811 your MIL's BF...wow! My issue is with my FIL. The guy is salt of the earth, most selfless guy I know, but good lord, man, stop telling strangers about your health issues and how you're an old single guy and don't eat much so you can get 3 or 4 full meals out of one take out order. My wife, bless her soul, talks to him 2 or 3 times per week, at a minimum of an hour each time, hardly getting in a word edgewise, listening to the same stories repeatedly, but does it faithfully because she knows he gets lonely by himself and just wants to talk. It does make me feel good that she'll take good care of me when if I need it, but it also makes me feel like a *kitten* for knowing I'm not as compassionate as she is. FIL and MIL, when she was alive, were both dysfunctional and rather than be understanding and compassionate I just tried to avoid the situation and let my wife deal with it. Which makes me more of an *kitten*. I regret not being a better person back in the day and I'm trying to make up for it. Well there's some rambling for you...

@ddmom0811 sorry about the creepy trainer. How odd that it happened so long after 3 years. Maybe he was drunk? Why the hell would he think you'd want to see a pic like that? Did he really think that would get you to change your mind? Stupid. Guys can be so pathetic.

Have you tried PB powder in your shake? I'm not sure how the protein content changes but the fat and calorie count goes way down.

@shanaber how fun for Hobbes!! All of your trips sound wonderful!

My wife is starting to use the IP! Split pea soup tonight!

This weekend I may make some venison chili. It's getting cold enough for that.

I baked two old butternut squash last night and they tasted past their prime. Kind of tasteless. I guess I'll butter them up tonight and see if they taste better.

I'm on a mission to use up old food in the freezer. I found some old venison roasts from two years ago and want to use up all of our pheasant before we go hunting next month. Also bags of Costco fruit from my smoothie binging a few months ago. So I guess smoothies for supper tonight.

Costco sells a big bag of power greens (baby kale, swiss chard, and spinach) which I've been going through. It's quite feat to go through it before half the bag gets soggy and nasty. I've been trying to eat it as a snack to fulfill my munching urge but it's not the same as eating a KitKat. The greens are great in scrambled eggs though, and I can put them in smoothies.

@Elise4270 you don't have Runza (calzones) in your area? I know they're around Nebraska. Schlotzky's...I LOVE their sandwiches! Haven't been there in years and they're just a quarter mile from work.

Maybe if I duct tape the Halloween candy bag closed I'll leave it alone?

We have a very small gym here at work. I tried the elliptical when recovering from surgery earlier this year but it was a crap machine that didn't fit well to my 6'5" frame. I also don't care to arrive early or stick around after work, so I doubt I'll use it again. I think once my youngest son leaves for college next fall I'll try a gym membership again for weights and maybe for fitness classes.

@ddmom0811 Shoot as in photograph. I shoot all the games for the boys varsity team and wanted to shoot the girls game last night as well, but ended up getting my packet for tomorrow's race instead

Oh! Somehow after all these years (5?) I never knew you did photography!

It's not much more than a hobby. At various times I've shot landscapes, nature photography, concert photography, graduation portraits, family portraits and even three weddings (never will do that again. too much STRESS!). The only thing that ever paid was the concert photography (magazine cover, hired by a couple of bands for promo shots, several published shots to go with concert reviews). It was also the most fun as I'd get VIP and photo passes and get to shoot from the space between the stage and the crowd barrier. Here is some of that, though most of my best stuff was shot on film and hasn't been digitized yet. Bands like the Allman Brothers, Dickey Betts, O.A.R, Phil Lesh and others.

I know I asked Pastor V this but I don't think I asked you... what camera(s) do you use? I'm nosy. I have canon, fuji, and minolta. I've got 2 35mm and 2 digital. Plus a gopro and instax. I have a problem.

    Oh dear!

Any idea what went wrong? It sounded so good in theory.

I believe I’ve mentioned before, the owner of my gyro shop is a friend. Once he gave me a cookie that he doesn’t sell but had made a batch of at the request of his daughters. I mentioned the cookies the other day and said he should make them again, and when we went by today after running look what he handed me!

    zvwt242bccem.jpeg

The long ones are almond cookies, sort of like biscotti, for dipping in tea or coffee. The round ones are filled with dates. He wouldn’t let me pay for these...

@RunsOnEspresso I currently shoot a Canon 7D. My favorite lens is the 70-200/f2.0 "L" with image stabilization, which I bought used and it still cost twice as much as the body. It's my only L lens and I really need to get a wide angle zoom L lens. I do have a Canon 17-85mm with variable aperture but really high quality for being an non-L. I love my 50/1.8 but it's an OLD version and is not quick to focus, and I have a 100/2.0 I love but with the 7D being a crop frame, I don't use it as much as I did when I had a full frame film camera. A full frame Canon with better low light performance is on my wish list.

I used to shoot a Canon 30D until I dropped it on some rocks shooting scenes around Lake Superior.
The Canon film SLR I had was the Elan IIe. That took most of those above above.
The photo of Sam Bush was taken with a Nikon Coolpix 995, my first digital camera. I loved that thing. I've yet to have another compact digital camera which takes photos as clear as it does. I think it still works too. It has a macro function and I was able to successfully use it to digitize my slides (damn I miss slides...)
But what started it all was my Minolta X370 manual camera I got as a high school graduation present.

@rheddmobile the recipe said I could go stovetop or instant pot and I used instant pot. I had the meat covered in beef broth and still it kind of has a dry texture, so I think the IP may have been a mistake. It also lacks flavor so I need to check the recipe and see what I missed. No way it could be this bland unless I screwed up. THose cookies look tasty, what an awesome thing for him to do!

@7lenny7 OMG, I'm drooling over the 70-200 lens! It's on my amazon wish list LOL All my cameras are crop. I meant to upgrade the Canon 60D to FF but bought a Fuji mirrorless for personal use and fell in love.

My minolta is the xg1. It was my dad's and I used to take horrible photos with it as a small child.

Ya know, I don't like Italian food, but I may have to investigate. Maybe there's a calzone or runza around... Sounds like you gotta run za calories off. But no one here does ricotta on pizza or anything.

Stress. Ya it's got me. DH just laughed at me when I told him about my day, how I can not even try to play the violin cuz I'm so tense. My teacher said it just means I'm about to make progress. Bless her. Then I found out that one of the programs I'm applying too takes 4-6 people here or 2-3 there. OMG. 6 to 9 total? *Sigh*.

My destressing plan is to practice one simple fun song so much I'm "good" at it. Then let it be my baseline. I adulterated my violin so that caused some stress too. It's fine, I didn't mess it up, I thought I might have though. (I added fine tuners).

I just need to let life be life right now.

Eta 20 days post op #4 is a little stressful too. More pains, less pains, are the pains gonna get better or worse? Blah blah blah

@shanaber aww poor Hobbes. I’m so happy for him that he gets to see his “family”. Shame on google for not updating you on the road conditions. If I had a destination in my calendar, it use to tell me even if I didn’t use gps. Now it won’t, but I have my phone set to “mind your own business” now. I didn’t like how it uses my phone to store junk files. It felt cluttered. Anyway, sorry about the traffic situation.

    Food today.
Hehe. Maybe I should back up a day. I ate so much yesterday. Wednesday is my long day so I did get a McDonald’s burger, fries and a Diet Coke. One of my female class mates, and applicant to the same program with 6-9 accepted, (she’s brilliant, wish her the best), had 3 burgers and a large fry from McDonald’s! Haha! She’s tiny ya know. Then I came home and made a steak in our new pans and had a beer. It was the best.

So food today needs to balance all I had yesterday. I have a roast I might drop in the ip before I head out. We’ll see. Dh inadvertently put DEF in the diesel in his truck. It’s some emission additive that has its separate hole. So today, his truck stalled and threw a light that water was in the fuel tank... ya, there is... so I need to keep the day loose to fetch him if he needs me. And that’s why my car has 1 hole.

    Stress.
I feel better. Hip hurts but I’m just gonna take a Tylenol and not let it slow me down. I don’t have an exam for 13 days so I have a breather, but then all the classes test in the same week. It’s maddening. And the nursing program sends the acceptance letters out the 17ish. I’m hopeful, but really want the other program and I don’t know how many applicants there are in any given year. My burger classmate said last year everyone that she knew of, that applied, got in. I only know if 3 of us so far. Wish me us smarts.

@RunsOnEspresso the XG1!!! My friend in high school had one and seeing his photos is what gave me the photobug. I miss film. The mystery and anticipation to see if you got the shot! I don't miss spending $200 to $300 per family vacation on processing though.

@7lenny7 I shot film (im addition to digital) on my last vacation through the southwest. I was planning to shoot it in Yosemite too but plans changed 🤣 I think I spent about that much to develop several rolls (some that were old and I had no idea what was on them). I spent more because I got prints and scans. I think just scans are cheaper.

I've got rolls of film I want to shoot now since Yosemite fell through.

@7lenny7 - I had to look at that pic of Kody! They looked liked stuffed animals to me, lol. Great shots!
Too funny about your FIL! I think my former trainer was drunk when we sent that one but he sent many other messages and called me prior to that over about a month period and I kept telling him no or ignoring.
I have not tried PB powder - been curious to so maybe I will!

@elise4270 - 3 burgers!? How can anyone eat that much and be tiny?! I need a refresher of what school you are doing now? Getting PhD? Sorry - I think I remember you thinking about it and then I wasn't participating in any groups for a while. Hope your pain ends!!!

@rheddmobile - wow, those cookies! Extra runs for you, lol!

I got my 5.8 mile run in this morning in honor of turning 58! I got up earlier than usual to get it in and then had to go to the bathroom twice! GRRR. Probably from the massive angel hair pasta meal I had the night before from an Italian restaurant. Plus wine. I plan on riding 58 on Saturday if I can (I know I can do it, but I mean weather and timing). One of my student's birthday is today also and he had new glasses for his color blindness and I have color blindness also! Not as bad as him, but we both thought it odd! Tonight is Cuban food at The Columbia! Mojitos there are amazing too!

    Back to work!

Hello again, fellow runners that need some nutritional accountability! I've been neglecting my weight goals in favor of other goals the last several months, primarily the struggles with various aches and pains limiting my running since spring, and a moderate flare-up of anxiety mid-summer. I've largely managed to maintain my weight over that time, though I'm up a few pounds - 171.5 as of this morning, the heaviest I've been since January 2018 and 20 pounds over my lowest weight since I started losing back in the summer of 2017. So it goes. I've decided to go back to what worked and have fired up my premium membership again, set a goal to lose a pound a week, and am hoping for the best. I've had trouble keeping up with this thread and the main one at the same time, but will do my best, because a little support never hurt anyone.

I like that, “A little support never hurt anyone”. Make a hell of a campaign slogan, moral mantra... @MegaMooseEsq = brilliant.

    Food
    Again?
    Coffee
    Burger
    Cat nap

How about you? I really want a dang pie. Or apple bread.... Alex’ girlfriend text me today, they got him checked in to a 10 day drug and alcohol facility. Hoping he’ll learn a bit and it’ll improve his life. Prayers and thought welcome.

It’s been so long since I’ve run, I think I might have to go find a non running group, I feel like a poser here! Haha!

I'm making bread. Did you know that on the bag it says not to eat raw flour because it can or does contain bacteria? I did not curb my dough eating. Now I'm going to have to google the bacteria in flour. its a conspiracy, no one shall ever eat cookie dough again. it may in fact, become a crime.

ETA. well. I should have googled before i ate the dough. I thought "bacteria", its not all bad.

"Raw Dough Can Contain Bacteria That Cause Disease. Flour doesn't look like a raw food, but typically it is. This means it hasn't been treated to kill germs like Escherichia coli (E. coli). Harmful germs can contaminate grain while it's still in the field or at other steps during flour production.
Say No to Raw Dough! | Features | CDC"
Does this mean animal poo is harvested? or workers just don't wash after a toilet visit? I may die now.

eta.a Oh look, there's a recall on flour with poo in it.

ETA - @elise4270 - I hope Alex finds his way! I know he has been struggling for a while. I will be thinking about him and hoping this rehab helps him!

You are still a runner, too! You have the heart of a runner and I know you will be back out there running again. Even if you never ran again you would still be welcome here!

I had no idea flour had bacteria... I do know sometimes it has bugs and eggs for the bugs. I chose not to think about that though. I always thought the issue with cookie dough was the eggs and salmonella. For me, for most cookies, I like the dough better than the baked cookies - oops I guess that will save me some calories now!

Food... I had my physical appointment this morning so I got out and ran early (fasted run). I needed to be fasted for the blood work I knew she would want, so no pre/post run snack and no breakfast. By the time I saw her and waited 40 minutes for the lab tech it was noon. Fortunately I did bring a protein bar with me. to stave off the hunger until I could get home and eat a proper meal. I get a headache and feel weird now when I don't eat so I figured it would be good to have something before I drove too. Had my usual yogurt and granola when I got home and feel better but my stomach is still whining. She did tell me I was very healthy, noted that my weight was down and big shocker, told me not to worry about losing more ( I want to lose 15lbs to get back to where I was before all the injury rehab, etc of the last 3 years). Basically said you are in great shape, very fit and if you don't lose any more you are still fine. Most doctors just look at my BMI and tell me I need to lose, lose, lose. She does know that I am a running and also commented on my muscle tone!

Tonight is chicken in the IP and I am going to make spaghetti sauce, probably tomorrow to have next week and in the freezer for quick dinners.

Also - trainer gave me an REI Friends and Family coupon last night. I am going to go over to REI and try on running shoes... umm maybe try on and buy... hmmm maybe socks too, I know I need some more socks...

@ddmom0811 Happy Birthday!!! Love the things you are doing to celebrate.

@Elise4270 Prayers that this will help Alex overcome his issues.

As for the flour issue, when I was little, I used to eat spoonfuls of raw flour when I was cooking. I didn't die. But, then again, I ate red clay dirt when I was little too. (BTW, I remember what it tastes like, and it was good. Wonder if that's why I like mushrooms so much?) And again, I didn't die. Sometimes I think we are so germ phobic these days that we don't let our kids build up their immune system. I could be wrong.

One of the children at daycare brought donut holes for all the kids and gave the teachers the left overs. The other teacher didn't eat any, so it was up to me to not let them go to waste.

On the one hand, I definitely think there's a contingent of people (in the US at least) who are waaaaaaay too worried about food being "clean", whether that means dirt or chemicals or whatever. On the other hand, there seems to be some real trends in the last few years towards more food-borne illnesses, although it doesn't seem entirely clear why. I know I've gotten much more diligent about washing produce, especially pre-cut veggies.

True. Maybe food was "better" many moons ago. I usually don't washing my pre-cut veggies. Maybe I should start.

@Elise4270 - prayers for Alex. It is such a battle. One day at a time. That is the only way to face it I think.
I love cookie dough and cookies!

@quilteryoyo - awesome on the new low!

@shanaber - wow you are a bad@ss running and not eating until noon! I could not do that! Awesome on getting meals together!

@RunsOnEspresso - sorry you had a rough day and good news on the loss!

I got my 58 mile ride in! I did the 44 with the group and then an extra 14 on my own on a trail. Get great! Headed to my son’s now for dinner and cake! This birthday celebration is quite spread out. The family all know I love chocolate cake so we will have that tonight and my daughter in Portland just texted me she found the local chocolate cake my her apt. I fly out Thursday next week!
Tomorrow we are not riding because we need to get some things done around the house. Put together my new weight shelf to hold dumbbells!

I’ve already had 1700 calories and still dinner, cake and wine to go! But I burned 1500 on the ride today!
