I started the day off right with an Egg McMuffin! It was a BOGO deal so I saved the second one for lunch, along with a protein bar and two hard boiled eggs.

Congratulations @Elise4270!! I know/think you applied to more than one program, is this the one where they only take a few people?

I am doing better this week on the food front. I finally got to the grocery and Costco so we have veggies and fruit and meat to cook. I have all the fixins for spaghetti sauce but haven't actually made it yet. We grilled a bunch of chicken with the intent of having it for dinner and lunches but we got a couple of dinners from it and no lunches. We also grilled sausages for our friends homecoming and have enough for another dinner of that too.

Today I didn't get my usual yogurt breakfast as I had to help Hilde so I grabbed a piece of toast with some PB to eat on the drive to the gym. Just had some turkey, cheese and crackers for lunch and now we are heading to the movies where it is nice and cool as it is nearly 100 today and though the rest of the week. Not sure how I am going to get in 10 miles tomorrow with this heat but will go early and just do as much as I can.
There may be popcorn at the movie too... I have been craving it and should probably just wait and make my own healthier version. Not sure that will happen.

@shanaber I can't resist good movie popcorn. It's probably a good thing that I rarely go to the theater.

I don't know if any of you ever read the blog from The Movie Chair lady. I always enjoy it.
The one I saw today mentions this quote she can't get out of her mind:

If you aren't hungry enough to eat an apple, you aren't hungry.
Wow, that is pretty powerful IMO! It's so true, isn't it?! I love apples but I just tend to gravitate toward another snack that's not so healthy. Here is her blog about it:

    https://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/The_Movie_Chair/view/an-apple-a-day-974898

This morning it was so nice out - the humidity was only in the 70% range! That's so unusual for October in Orlando! It felt great! So I went for five miles.

The same old breakfast and lunch for me today. Then for dinner we are going out with cycling friends for someone's birthday. It's a restaurant that has one vegetarian choice, but that's fine (at least last time I was there). On Wednesday they have half off bottles of wine. I think there are 7 of us, so I'm thinking we will have several bottles. They will wrap it and let you take the rest home if you have an unfinished bottle.

Weight is creeping back down - back to acceptable range. Taking longer than I thought after the trip to Portland, but I think part of it is the 66 mile bike ride on Sunday - that meant I was super hungry on Monday/Tuesday. I had about 2000 calories both days. Today will probably be the same.

@shanaber & @7lenny7 - I like movie popcorn too (but hardly ever go to theaters anymore except when visiting my mom) - but I have never liked the butter on it. I try to just get a small and that's it (even though the pricing is ridiculous on the small!)

Just finished a really great book -- Code Girls by Liza Mundy. It's not about programming ... it is about women who broke the codes to figure out messages from the Japanese during WWII. (This is not the same at all as the Hidden Figures book/movie - which was excellent also).

In laws in town. Managing to stay under calories but two meals in a row of crap restaurant food already has my skin freaking out. I used to have terrible skin before I started eating to keep my blood sugar under control. I am just gonna have to do the thing of not eating at the restaurant then eating at home later, which is ridiculous but Memphis food culture really is that bad.

You sure it's not the in-laws causing the skin to freak out?

Dinner out last night was fun and calories are completely unknown. There was a quinoa/veggies mix that was really good. I forgot that this restaurant puts bread on the table and within the bread basket are these AMAZING pretzel sticks -- think a delicious warm pretzel. I ate 3 I think. It may have been 2.5, but pretty sure it was 3. Weight was down 0.4 so I guess it was not too bad!

Feels like the start of a cold so I bought Zicam on the way to school. This happened to me two weeks ago and the Zicam fought off the cold. Hopefully I can beat it this time. I haven't noticed any of my students with colds (I always know because I keep tissues on my desk so I am aware when they are constantly getting tissues). BTW, why would a kid stand right in front of me and blow his nose!? I find it so odd. I was so shy in school I wouldn't even blow my nose in the classroom! Some kids just stand there and blow away!

Here's to a day of keeping the calories low!

@ddmom0811 you hand them the hand sanitizer after they blow? Germs everywhere! I’d think they’d walk to the trash can and blow, it’s not at your desk is it?

    Food food food
I feel pms creeping and I ate so much yesterday, time to avoid the scale. Actually since the lasagne indulgence I’ve been hungry. I really need to put on a nice soup. McDonald’s is so convenient, I’m going to change that habit. I have only had it twice this week and I pass on fries, well.... yesterday they were inadvertently added to my bag, so.... who passes on free fries?

@elise4270 - it is on my desk! Good idea - I move it somewhere else!!!
I have a HUGE hand sanitizer on my desk that I use a many times a day!

@ddmom0811 - do you wipe down or have the kids wipe down the keyboards, mice, etc.? Or maybe they bring their own PCs? When I was teaching that is something I had all the kids do but they were elementary age. it used to gross me out to see them doing what kids do... hands in mouth, rubbing, wiping, picking their noses and then putting those same hands all over the mouse or keyboard 🥴
Also enjoyed the blog but that saying reminds me of my mom when I would ask for a snack. She always had me on some kind of diet and would offer me something I wouldn't want to eat.
I am doing well on my food and calories. Was starving late yesterday after my run, but not hungry at all for several hours afterwards. Made myself eat some yogurt and granola and then nothing until dinner. I did get the spaghetti sauce made so that will be dinner tonight with a big salad.
I have my strength training session in a bit and will be taking an apple and some pb for a snack before.

    Okay... let’s try this again...

I think I’m going to tweak my diet, again. I’m going to give up animal products. This really shouldn’t be so hard. I ate little animal products for sometime... I’ve just been so indulgent lately.

    @ddmom0811 what are you eating?

    @elise4270 - What am I eating?
Well, breakfast is always one of 3:
2 days - Oatmeal - RX AM brand
3 days - Fage yogurt with blueberries and some local honey
1-2 days - Killer Dave's bread (2 slices) with either PB or hard boiled eggs
Sunday - if I ride the bread breakfast, if I don't - something different!

Lunch - almost every school day is a salad I make at home - it has all kinds of veggies and also a few grapes and usually 1 hard boiled egg. I add hemp seeds at school.
Today I walked across the street and had pizza!

    Dinner -
Friday - almost always spaghetti made at home - I had edamame as my meatballs!
Sat/Sun - almost always eat out
Mon-Thurs - usually one of those recipes I've mentioned - I make it Sunday and we eat it - MTWTh - except one night we may eat out. Last night we had Panera for dinner

I have had no trouble giving up animal products (except eggs and dairy) I need those. I never liked beef/pork very much to begin with. I have missed salmon in restaurants. Chicken I had all the time and I probably got sick of it!

Tomorrow is a 44 mile ride, although I may add a few miles on to the end if time. We go to Tampa Sat afternoon and spend the night to see friends. So no ride on Sunday and we will be eating out.

Thanks @ddmom0811 ! I am going to try to cut out or eliminate dairy and eggs. But that maybe a tad stringent with breads and pizza. I grabbed that last piece of pizza, yay no meat... And realized it has cheese. Haha!

I'm going to dig around and see if we have any lentils for a barley, sweet potato soup. We have chickpeas, which I love, but tend to give me a migraine.

I should start a grocery list and see what I can find in my cookbooks before DH puts on chili since it got cool. Maybe I can get him to do a veggie one, meat substitute. Bean chili. Mmm!

DH brought home fried fish at lunch. I better get that soup started before I get too hungry.

    I did pretty good today.

V8 energy instead of coffee and cream
    Large avocado
And homemade veggie soup, korma style, no rice. I added barley.

My youngest female cat brought me a mouse. I passed.

Apparently she thought you needed more protein @elise4270!

I had dinner planned and Dh decided he wanted Chipolte. It was so hot I didn't care so Chipolte it was! I ate every bit of my bowl and all the guacamole. I should have weighed it because it came in a smaller container but I just logged it as if it were the bigger one...

Doing a little better food wise, got my in laws to visit places where I know how to order low calorie options. Grilled catfish, spinach, roasted zucchini for dinner, half a shawarma wrap for lunch, skipped breakfast. Got in some stationary bike and half a weightlifting set late at night. I don’t know how I used to stand it being sedentary all the time, after sitting around just one day my arms and legs feel so bad.

My stepmother in law is in the early stages of possibly Alzheimer’s, possibly some other kind of dementia. Basically she has very little short term memory and gets easily obsessed and emotional. She used to be a very difficult person, and oddly enough is easier to get along with now because she is trying hard to follow cues. It’s sad to see her like this, even a difficult personality is better than having your personality taken away by illness.

@rheddmobile - glad you are were able to work out places to eat that give you better choices. That is so sad about your stepmother in law. I agree about not understanding how I use to be so sedentary! Now I panic if I haven't exercised in some form.

I did the usual Sat bike ride -45 miles. Usually I burn over 1000 calories but today it was <900. What?! It wasn't that easy! Maybe I am getting more fit.

However, someone in the group posted some pics on Strava of us when we were waiting for someone to go to the bathroom and I look awful! Makes me want to lose more weight. I looked at the people beside me and they look normal so I don't think the photo was stretched!
I will post two of them here. I'm in the light blue. The first one is okay but the second looks like I'm 30 pounds overweight, I guess I need to be more aware of how I am standing/waiting! Hold in belly and butt!

@ddmom0811 I think i look fine, then catch that same glimpse of "whoa!", like finding the "fat woman" oh DH's phone... twas me.*erp*.

    ______________________________________________________________________
I find that I'm fighting this "carbs make you fat" mentality. I keep trying to remind myself that its not "unhealthy" to eat carbs that are veggies... I did eat a ton of special K last night... so if i can remember that there is no magic macro breakdown that's gong to make me look 20 yo and 105 lbs, I can make improvements. I have to keep those calories in check, no matter the macros. New mantra "there are no magic macros". If i can eat only veggies, then I suppose I can eat ALL i want and not count calories. Until then, I need to implement some discipline.

I put cream in my coffee. I figured, "move away slowly, and don't be unrealistic". Do better, not everything all at once.

    Today's food?
    no clue.

My poor little poo bear is sick. He came down with a cold yesterday. poor guy, was sneezing and coughing so much that he couldn't sleep last night. I tried to give him some Afrin, might have helped. With his snake bit eye, I really hate him coughing and sneezing. It still has a glint of red in the iris. He has an appointment Monday, if hes not better.

my baby cat brought me a tiny mole. We have had so much rain, I guess they are moving to hire ground. Free rodent buffet for her.

@ddmom0811 Hope the Zicam worked. Maybe your students are being efficient as I would guess the trashcan to throw the tissue into is near your desk. Maybe if you move it, they'll go to the trashcan before blowing. (Great minds...read on and saw that @Elise4270 had the same idea.)
Also, I don't think you look fat at all in those pictures. I see how you could think so in the second picture, but it's just that your arm is in the way. If you look closely, you can see that little waist. Don't be too hard on yourself. (Honestly, I have a hard time with this myself. I think we are all harder on ourselves than anyone else is.)

I took my mom and dad on our annual leaf viewing morning trip today. We drove about 1.5 hours over the mountain to Sneadville, TN where we had breakfast at Hardee's. I had a loaded omelet biscuit. Pretty high in calories and really high in sodium. But, I don't do it every day, so I'm okay with that. Then, we drove back through Morristown, so we could stop at the Bean Station Scenic view overlook. It was cloudy and the leaves were not as pretty as they are some years. We just haven't had enough rain lately and a lot of them just dried up and fell off. Still, it was a wonderful morning and some of the trees were spectacular. I am blessed to get to be able to see the beauty of our area and to spend some quality time with my parents who are 87 and 84. Hope you all had a great Saturday!

@quilteryoyo - I think we all are too hard on ourselves! That's so cool that you got take your parents on a trip to look at the beautiful leaves!
@elise4270 - LOL - I remember when you said that about "who is that fat lady in the picture?" I guess we all are shocked to see our pics sometimes.

And why are iPhone pictures so bad of ourselves!? I asked my daughter and she said to use portrait mode and that they come out better.

Today (Sunday) has been an eating disaster, but oh well. Not going to beat myself up over it.
We went to Tampa last night to see this crazy Halloween parade/party on the streets of Ybor City (a little section of Tampa). So Saturday was okay except for too much partying.

Then today we woke up and went to breakfast. OK, that was actually not too bad - Vegetarian Omelet and it was very healthy aka not that good, no cheese and just kind of plain. Added on a biscuit.
Then we decided to go to Hard Rock Casino on the way home just to check it out - never been. OK, maybe that wasn't that bad either. Ate a salad for lunch which had way too much dressing. I saw they had these really good looking Peanut Butter cookies with Reeces. Ate almost the whole thing (it was huge). And it was really good!

Got home and had to do all the usual work at home - and ate a ton of wheat thins and 2 glasses of wine while cooking. Didn't feel like what I cooked (Veg chili - DH ate it though). I ate a PBJ and then just had ice cream. I'm so stuffed!

It was a rest day and maybe I needed a weird/crappy eating day! Tomorrow I'll be back in my routine! I should have plenty of "carbs/not the good kind" for my run in the morning!

@elise4270 - yum, those look good! I will try them! But I fear I could eat the whole batch!

Had a good 2 days of eating spot on, other than a few small peppermint patties. Bought a ton of Halloween candy and it didn't call my name last night! We shall see if it will be quiet tonight!

I bought 2 sweaters and an ugly button up with four patterns on it, a cute coat and I found a cute pair of little boots in an 8.5 narrow.

The ugly shirt is too big. I swear it was a size smaller or maybe just didn't look like a large. I think I can wear it under a sweater.

It's funny how I pick out all these things and think the should look a certain way and get home and find they don't. Well, all's good but the large ugly shirt. So I think, perhaps I'm not dressing for my body type. Google and I'm an apple... Google more and I'm a carrot. Google more and I'm obese. Haha! Well that calculator
was not a how to dress body type but a health calculator. Ohh my clothes suck because I'm a fat fruit or vegetable.

Nah I really did ok I think. I'm really stoked about the shoes. I haven't had girl boots/shoes in ages... Ever. But the calculator said for my body type, I shouldn't wear little boots. Just wish I looked like I thought I should look. I really hate that mirror shock when it's "ugh".

    Food today
Banana oatmeal cookies made it til AM, ate the last 3
    No lunch
And apple, cheese whisps and a cup of spaghetti squash with salt.

It's supposed to be 25f here tonight. Not happy about that. The boots. Yay! https://www.rockport.com/rockport/womens-cobb-hill-gratasha-2-panel-boot/ml03328.html?dwvar_ml03328_color=ml03328_taupe

Ate more cuz the above list seems slight.

    Roast
    Avocado
And a bowl of special k

How’d you guys do today? I’m already fighting the pie urges. Dang cold weather. Any tomorrow plans?

@elise4270 - those boots are super cute!
I have decided I don't care who or what anyone or anything says I should wear or not. If I try it on and I like it that is good enough, well good enough until my daughter sees it and says 'mooom, you aren't going to wear that are you???' Ha! She doesn't see me enough to really say that much but it does make me self conscious when she does. I just don't want to be dressing like an old grandma. Speaking of which dh asked me why I don't just let my hair be grey., seriously? I don't feel old enough to be grey so nope!

Food was a mess today. It seems to be that way a lot on days I don't run. Carbs, carbs and more carbs and not even good ones. Junk carbs. I need to be doing better! Breakfast I was in a hurry and grabbed toast and PB; lunch I was hungry but nothing we had sounded like anything I wanted to eat. I had some cottage cheese and tortilla chips. I made microwave popcorn for a snack with a few dry roasted peanuts while watching the World Series game before dinner. Dinner I made some yummy chicken and brown rice in the IP. You cook them together and then add a little butter and parmesan cheese to the rice at the end and it turns out creamy and like a brown rice risotto. I even made my own Montreal chicken seasoning mix. Added some mixed veggies to round it out. None of that was too terrible but then I had some of the Haagen-Dazs Bourbon vanilla ice cream and it is all @7lenny7's fault. I had to try it and see if it was good, it was 😋 I wasn't over calories but I feel like I just ate junk.
