    Wow busy in here!
Had fun at granddaughter’s little birthday party. Just grandparents and one great-grandma or Omi as we call her, she’s German. Are a HUGE piece of cake and ice cream. It was sort of a brunch menu. Son made frittatas and Creme brûlée French Toast. All delicious. Not worried about over eating at all since I ate healthy most of the week. Had a little four mile run this am and not sure what I will do in the morning. It’s open house at school so I have to be ther 12-3:30. We teachers all hate it. But it’s part of a private school job. At least we only have one a year.

Debating dinner for tonight. We may go out. Not at all hungry but it’s only 5:30.

@rheddmobile - that is really interesting. I will mention it to my husband. He had his wallet stolen in Brazil many years ago and they used the CC to charge around $25k within 15mins. Fortunately he called me immediately and I contacted BoA so they were already aware of the issue. These guys had a 'medical' business set up with different types of medical services charged. I think they figured the victim would be too stunned to do anything about it very quickly and they could get the money before it was stopped. I was really amazed at how fast they were able to charge it. I am sure they had done it before and knew just what they needed to do.

@rheddmobile WOW! Glad they were able to figure out the theft ring. If they were charging $40 on all of the cards that came through, that's a heck of a lot of money.

I've never had my credit card stolen, but back in the day before cell phones I traveled a lot and had a card to use for phone calls when I was away. Twice, when I traveled to Washington DC and called my husband from the airport payphones, someone stole the number and immediately made a lot of calls to foreign countries. It wasn't caught by the company the first time and I got a phone bill for something like $500! I called and they took care of it. The next time, they caught it right away and when I tried to call my husband when I was delayed at another airport the card had been deactivated. I called and they reactivated it. They finally figured out that someone had put a skimmer on a couple of phones at that airport.

Breakfast -- I don't recommend this: Kodiak Cakes Oatmeal Unleashed (PB & Chocolate chip). It sounded good but I'm not enjoying it too much. Getting ready to lift, and wanted something with protein - but something different. Bought this a few weeks ago and saw it in pantry and thought "oh yeah, yum!" No. Maybe it's just my taste buds this morning, but I don't really taste PB or Chocolate. More of a weird flavor. But it does have 14g protein!

@rheddmobile - wow that is crazy about the theft ring.
My cc has been stolen/compromised many times and I never found out how they got it. Luckily the company noticed it right away each time.

Ugh Dh ordered pizza. Of course.

I ate too much yesterday. DH brought home burgers from Red Robin.
So today I'm going to try to make up for it.

I'm having less pain finally. I slept comfortably most of the night. I even didn't want to get up because I was rather comfortable. Usually I have to get up to stop the pain . I had a dream I walked down 3-4 steps and was quick about it. Haha! Onward!

Any Thanksgiving plans? We haven't made any plans yet, not even a turkey. I suppose this week will be turkey/stuffing shopping. We don't have, I don't have family. DH has a bit and may go visit. DD has her dad's fam. I got the cats...and homework and house cleaning. 😑

@Elise4270 - so glad the pain is getting better finally!

We don't really have plans for Thanksgiving either. It is just us and I will take a plate over to Hilde. Likely we will have turkey but since dh doesn't eat/like stuffing I don't think I will make any this year. In the past I have made it because I really like it but you can't really make just a little and then I end up throwing it out. I do make fresh cranberry relish though. We both love it and will eat it even if the turkey is all gone. I will make a pie too if we can decide what we want. Probably pumpkin.

Yesterday I ran in the morning then we met a friend for lunch and then we all went to a movie. I haven't eaten at Lazy Dog Cafe in a long time and I got a Thai salad that was delicious and not bad calorie or macro wise. Of course we were all full from lunch so no popcorn was purchased even though dh kept trying to convince me. Hobbes and I had agility early evening so I had dinner (reheated veggie pizza) afterwards. I was so exhausted after the 3 runs in agility class - kind of like three sets of sprints with some twists and turns and re-dos. Hobbes was on fire, running so fast - I think he has missed having class. At one point he was going so fast over a jump then to the teeter and didn't decelerate and literally slid/flew off the end of it!

@Elise4270 Glad your pain is subsiding. Like the dream. It's a sign of things to come.

As for Thanksgiving, my parents and I are going to go to my neighbor's on Thanksgiving day. They are more like family. I grew up playing with their youngest son, who loves to cook and have people over. I'm in charge of making deviled eggs for 14 people. There is always way too much food when we eat over there, so I'm sure overeating will happen.

Then, the day after, we are going to my nephew's for a meal with the rest of my family. Again, I'm in charge of deviled eggs and this time buffalo chicken dip also. So, there will be two straight days of overeating. Hopefully I can make up for it by getting in some exercise somewhere.

Oh, and my step-daughter and her family are coming to visit the Saturday before Thanksgiving and will stay until Tuesday when they will go to her mom's side of the family for Thanksgiving day. I'm sure that will also involve eating more than I usually do and exercising less. The more I look at it, the end of the month is going to be a challenge to semi stay on track and not undo all that I have worked to get done this year.

    Thanks, @shanaber, and @quilteryoyo!

I did better today. I am trying to stick to intermittent fasting and didn't eat until after 4 pm. So, with few hours left in the day, there's only so much to eat. I had 2 black bean and 2 spinach tamales then as a treat, dried figs. I found a package that is just sun-dried, with no preservatives. so SCORE! My calories are about half of what I have been eating, so I think tomorrow might be hard. I came across some blood work and noted my cholesterol is 179. yikes! Perhaps today I put a "nudge" in it downwards.

Now I have to rethink that turkey. or is turkey okay? oh, it's thanksgiving! Eat turkey! We (I) make stuffing (not in the bird), with cornbread, bacon, cranberries, jalapenos, and pecans. Those of you that do stuffing, do you do cornbread or that weird white bread snotty stuff? haha! My ex-husbands family makes it that-a-way. It was so gross. Crazy northerners. Dh will probably insist on green bean casserole too. We possibly could do something with sweet potatoes, like a casserole with black beans (I have a recipe somewhere).

    @elise4270 - glad you had a pain-free sleepless night!

For Thanksgiving I am pretty sure we are going to my son's house. He has been cooking that along with Christmas dinners for several years now. Even last year when their baby was just a couple weeks old! I offered to cook it but they seem to want to do it. I will bring something - not sure what yet.
I only like chocolate desserts except on Thanksgiving I do like pecan pie.
He makes very fancy stuffing. Maybe that's why he wants to cook instead of me, I make the kind with the Pepperidge Farms bread cubes.
My daughter is staying in Portland for Thanksgiving but she suggested this: https://www.purplecarrot.com/thanksgiving
which looks really good to me! I may order some and bring it along as my sides. ;)

My husband went to cardiologist yesterday for followup and he is out of AFib! There was a sign in the lobby that said something like "if you can yes to one or more of these you may be at risk for AFib". He had 3 of them -- high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and athlete.
Athlete? Why would an athlete be susceptible to AFib? I don't know, but I was shocked. That was the only one that I have. The others were:
advanced age, binge drinker, underlying heart issue.

We don't know if we are advanced age or not! And actually the Saturday before he went into AFib we had gone to a Halloween party and had drank way too much. Not sure that it would be defined as binge drinking. But it was too much. (Don't worry we used Lyft and we didn't black out or anything!)
Note it didn't say anything about caffeine which is what the ER doctor had mentioned.

I'm on antibiotics for a UTI and these pills are the type that say take on an empty stomach (one hour before a meal or two hours after). I find this so difficult because I snack a lot. My stomach is never empty! I have to really think about each meal and pill time and keep a detailed list! It's only 5 days and this is day 3, so I will make it!

@ddmom0811 Glad your DH had a follow-up. AFib in athletes? Hmm, interesting.

    Food
My stomach hates me. I maybe trying to get a bug. Or it's the longer hours without food, increased fluids and no gallbladder. I made a plan last night for today's lunch, subway not McDonald's. It's ok. Cost more but my arteries are probably happier.

    ETA AFib Google
"Pushing your body to the max day after day can stress your heart and raise your risk for a type of abnormal heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation, or A-fib, which ultimately can lead to heart failure or a stroke, according to the review, which analyzed 12 studies on A-fib in athletes and endurance runners.Mar 7, 2016"
Just another reason to respect the rest days.

@elise4270 - thanks for sharing that. I hadn't looked it up yet. And I just told my friend I am going to do the running streak! But I will do a very slow mile on the rest days. You know I am terrible about rest days so you have inspired me- thank you!

@ddmom0811 Glad your DH is out of A-fib. I hate UTI's. Hope your's clears up quickly. I have most of those things on the list. I do take rest days - some planned, some not. So, at least I'm doing good there. My blood pressure is getting better and I'd love to get off of my meds, but the doctor's are hesitant since I have the Aortic Aneurysm. And I have sleep apnea.

    ddmom0811 Posts: 1,881 Member
@quilteryoyo - thanks! I'm still in shock that athletes are prone to AFib. You definitely don't want to fool around with high blood pressure or the aneurysm! He's been using a CPAP for so many years when I'm away I have trouble not hearing the sound of the blowing air next to me.

I had Frosted Mini Wheats for dinner. I had them two mornings when DH was in hospital and remembered how much I loved them. So bought them for home and enjoyed them with Silk Almond Milk - the 30 calorie one.

@shanaber Thank you for sharing your experience; it brought me some peace of mind... I'm so glad for you, your family, that they caught it before it grew or spread. My maternal aunt also had breast cancer, so scary.

I hope all of you ladies and other fellow runners are doing well. Staying sane/calm as possible and hanging in there right now... Next week is my physical and then the week following, I have my repeat in depth mammogram.

Today is day 3 of really trying to stick to my calorie goal. I guess I hadn’t realized how lazy I’d gotten. It 330pm and I’ve eaten all I’m “allowed”. Yesterday the scale was down 4 pounds, today it’s up 2 (down 2 from the oh kitten weight). Of course. No way that 4 pounds was real. I’ve vowed to record daily weights even if I don’t like them. Maybe it’ll offer motivation.

I’m half hoping dh brings home something I can binge on and watch Netflix. I’m not hungry. I think it’s just familiar evening comfort.

I'm on day #4 of sticking to my calorie goal. It is hard....I know. I've had loads of days where I consumed daily calories before even lunch, sadly. What is oh kitten weight? I do not record daily weights but I have kept track of every calorie consumed for a month now. A nice surprise when the weight is not real, just water.

I'm so tired today. I had a hard time staying awake driving home from work this afternoon. Not sure why. I slept okay last night. I'm trying to decide whether to exercise or make it a rest day. Maybe I'll try to go for a walk on the treadmill and try for a run tomorrow night.

@LoveyChar oh kitten weight is the weight that I hit where I need to get serious. We all have some fluctuations and this weight is undoubtedly due to lazy eating.

If you say oh *kitten*! Mfp censors it. So, I just save the trouble and kitten myself

    ETA
@quilteryoyo definitely take the time to rest. It could be a cold or just a nudge that your system is needing a rest. Dh mentioned today he thought he was already getting sick, I talked to a nurse today and she though she might be coming down with something and I woke with a headache and i have a bit of ache in my shoulders a telltale sign of a cold or perhaps flu. Awful. It’s Chicken soup and naps season!

@quilteryoyo - hope you are okay. That doesn't sound good to be that tired. I've had that feeling of extreme sleepiness driving to work where I think "this is not safe - I need to pull over and close my eyes". Coming home, I'm more awake!
@LoveyChar - hope you get good news on the second mammo. I've had several scares, that luckily all turned out to be nothing. One time I had a chest xray for something and they saw something on my lung! They sent me for a more intense test and there was nothing there.

Back to biking in the morning! It's been two weeks off the bike due to DH's heart issue.
Calories have been pretty good this week except for Mexican on Tuesday night when we celebrated the no-more-AFib. Weight is in the good range. But after the weekend it will go up. I am focusing on trying to eat less processed foods per @shanaber 's discussion of it last week or whenever it was! Although chocolate is still being consumed.

@ddmom0811 Thanks. I got a good nights sleep and feel better this morning. I don't have to be at work until 11, so got up early and already got my 3 mile run in. That doesn't happen often. I knew if I didn't do it now, I wouldn't do it after work.

@LoveyChar Hoping for good news on your mammogram.

I do not know what is wrong with me. I am so hungry. DH is fixing chili with lts of veggies, so hopefully that'll fill me up.

I'm glad I didn't try to walk yesterday. When I came home I realized the floors needed cleaned. I think I over did it swiffering, and vacuuming. My hip is rather angry. We bought turkey day fixin's. I'm excited for the stuffing/dressing.

    Hope everyone is well.

I thought this was funny! Ordered Mexican Grubhub from the place just down the street. I have a cold and nothing I normally eat sounded good so I got a shrimp taco salad. I can’t eat the tortilla bowl but I figured I could just eat the stuff that comes in it - a salad topped with beans, shrimp, cheese, sour cream and guacamole, right?

    Here’s the menu:
    zxufeli7wlg5.jpeg
Note that there is no explicit description of the shrimp taco salad, but it’s on the menu right after the regular taco salad and costs slightly more, so you would figure it’s like the regular one, but with shrimp.

    This is what was delivered:
    nl01zm6ph7yn.jpeg

It’s a generous portion of shrimp, I’ll give them that, but where’s the salad? A bit of poking around revealed that this is in fact what it looks like: a tortilla shell bowl full of shrimp, with a garnish of guacamole, cheese, sour cream, and tomatoes. No beans, and more importantly no salad! There’s no scale here but the shrimp looked a little lonely at the bottom of their big bowl with nothing else in it!

I called down to determine that there was in fact supposed to be salad in the salad, and the cashier was confused. Yes, it’s normally an overflowing bowl of lettuce and beans with stuff on the top. My guess is that a new worker who had never encountered a taco salad asked what went in it and they told her the toppings, assuming she knew what to put them on top of, and she just put the toppings in it.

I had some box lettuce in the fridge and just flipped this out onto it. But... very weird!

@rheddmobile That's hilarious. Glad you had your own lettuce to add to the salad. On the bright side, you probably got a very generous portion of shrimp. Hope you feel better today.

@rheddmobile - lol that is hilarious!

Last night we met some friends from out of town in the tourist district and they suggested AppleBees. I haven't been to one in years, didn't like it back then particularly. But whatever, I can find vegetarian wherever. Well, not there! They said I can order anything and just leave off the meat. Okay. I just looked online for the name of what I ordered but it doesn't seem to be there. It was called Chicken and something, said quinoa with apples slides and raisins.
They brought out a regular full size plate and one third of it was the quinoa mix and absolutely nothing on the other 2/3! What?!?! We all cracked up. I ordered a baked potato to go with it. The quinoa mix was really good as was the baked potato. But it was just so odd. And it was $11.99 for that little "side" of quinoa!!! Plus whatever the potato was as a side. I had biked 45 miles in the morning and needed some food! I had not eaten a lot for lunch knowing we were going out!
We hung out with them for a few hours at their condo - btw remind me to tell you about the great deals they get! Then on the way home I felt so hungry! We stopped at 7-11 and I bought Doritos and a chocolate chip cookie!

Lifted this morning and now need to go shopping for the week. Couldn't come up with anything to make so decided I'm going to make the black bean soup recipe from The Columbia (excellent restaurant I've mentioned). I love that and also the 1905 salad - amazing - but not very low cal. https://www.columbiarestaurant.com/The-Columbia-Experience/Recipes . And also buying veggie burgers. We eat out on Thursday with some friends this week so it's really just 3 nights to deal with. Then I'm off all the week after!!!

@elise4270 - LOL yuck!!! Hope he gets better soon and isn't a big baby the whole time.

Made the black beans last night but having them tonight. Didn't try them while cooking.

We ended up having the veggie burgers, baked potatoes, broccoli, corn on cob ... I think that's it.
Weather is so nice here this week. Around 55 in the morning for run, then getting up to about 71!
AHHH - please stay like this all winter!
