@ddmom0811 LOL Dh isn't ill, just gross. I should have chosen a better word, darn english language (no you DON'T deserve to be capitalized). He YouTubed a video of a recipe, said it actually sounded fine. Then I suggested eating canned dog food and he looked that up as well, I laughed so hard I was crying and couldn't breathe. People. :s

    Food
I have been eating too much. I suspect PMS or finals stress, although I'm expecting all A's and don't feel stressed. But it could be. I found, well let me preface by saying it is just an OTC suppliment and if you chose to take it, remember I am not a doctor or your PCP. I found a supplement NADH (active vitamin B3) and after 3 days I undoubtedly noticed that I was extra alert and had to google it, sure enough, it is a thing. I shared my findings with DH and he's taken one today. He's a bit ADD, so I wonder if it could help him. I hope it's not why I wanna eat everything though. A few days ago I had a slight headache and noticed after taking it my headache went away. Could be a coincidence.

    Today's food
    Coffee
Sushi roll (DD surprised me. but I can eat 10 and got just 1. It had soy sauce on it, so I could regret it. She didn't know)
ready bake brownie dough. 4*160 cals
I still want to eat. I hope its just wicked PMS

@elise4270 - LOL - okay. Dog food!!! What?!?!? I did try a dog biscuit when I was a kid. It wasn't good. It looks like a cookie. I was about 5 but remember it clearly.

I just started taking B12 about a month ago. DD has been veg for about 6 years and discovered she was low in B12 and D. I had my D tested in May and it was fine. I should probably get my B12 tested before just starting it but I'll give it a short try and see if I notice anything.

Hope the PMS gets better. I don't miss that! I would eat everything in sight for a couple days and then not be hungry for days.

Same repeat meals for me except yesterday in the morning I really screwed up. I thought I was buying oatmeal - but it was really this: https://shop.kodiakcakes.com/collections/kodiak-cups/products/kodiak-cakes-buttermilk-maple-power-flapjack-cup
So I poured boiling water in it at school and was going to eat it during homeroom (I don't have a homeroom) and realized -- wait -- this is just pancake dough. So I ate an RX Bar (Pumpkin Spice). I'm not all that crazy about pumpkin but the chocolate mint flavor I tried was not very good so bought a couple on a whim. It was good.

We have a turkey and all the stuff for stuffing. I'd really like to eat it. Especially the stuffing. I might can wait since the bird is still frozen. DH bought tickets to Willie Nelson, I was hoping for TSO again this year. Oh well. I told him it was going to cost him dinner and a few beers.

    Todays Food?

    Coffee.
It's my late start of a long day, so I probably won't find anything to eat until after or 3or 4 PM. It is possible I'll give in to a tuna and swiss sandwich before I head out so my classmates don't have to listen to my stomach gurgle loudly.

    What are you eating today?

We had our Thanksgiving meal at the daycare today, so had turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, gravy, and pumpkin pie. I was really bad and had 2 pieces of pie and some extra potatoes and dressing. It's a good thing Thanksgiving only comes around once....well, in my case, 3 times this year. LOL

Thank you, ladies. I'm not in the best mind frame these days but I'm still hanging.

@ddmom0811 I cannot imagine how scared you must have been, or at least anxious, to hear something like that. I still have a week and a half (Black Friday) before I have my more in depth mammogram appointment. Everyone will be home, kids out of school and husband off of work and I'm going to dip out around 7:20 in the morning before anyone wakes up. I didn't tell the kids, don't want to worry anyone.

As far as the vitamins go...well...I have my first ever physical tomorrow. I've been feeling very "off" since July. I truly hope whatever is ailing me is a simple fix. I tinkered arounded with and gave up on so many things. First I started taking the B12, then the iron, and then I upped my protein. Then I didn't notice results so I stopped (I may have given up too soon). Then I started paying attention to my potassium for the first time ever. I truly believe that low potassium levels are my problem. But tomorrow is my appointment and hopefully, I'll get some answers soon.

I did start taking B12 and iron again last week plus calcium and vitamin D. I don't know what I'm doing...But... thank you ladies for encouraging me to get this physical...I'm so anxious... I watched this lady on Dr. Phil who had not seen a doctor in 22 years!!! This could easily be me, seriously. She had an anxiety inducing result and did not follow up, ever again, for 22 years. I hope Dr. Phil got through to her.

    Uuuuuuuggggggghhhhh...😒

I hope you all have a nice day and I'll talk to y'all soon 💖.

@LoveyChar - I'm sure the doctor will do a full blood check and you will see it's good to know these things! Let us know!

Yesterday was a total repeat of Monday. DH and I certainly get in a rut on dinners (and I like the same things for breakfast and lunch all the time during the school year!) I was really hungry for some reason and kept snacking on little things here and there once I got home. Note to self, have a snack right before leaving school so I'm not famished upon arrival home!

Tonight we are going out to dinner with some friends (my son's in-laws) at an Italian place that we like. Not sure what I will get. Can't ride with my cycling group on Saturday due to programming competition early at a local university, so trying to figure out what I will be doing. Usually I run early on these days of programming competitions but I may lift instead and run tomorrow.
Today was a nice 4.5 mile run, other than having two bathroom stops. I did start taking Creatine - to help with my lifting - and it doesn't seem to agree with my stomach (when running and even when not running). I take it after exercise. I'm going to give it a couple weeks. Although... I go to the convention center Dec 1-6 (kids present their simulation project) and I don't think I want to be away with stomach issues. So, now that I think of it, I may stop it that week.

I am still starving all the time. I was fine not eating til 1 or 2pm everyday, but now I'm waking up hungry. If I try to ignore it, my stomach just makes those embarrassing loud noises.

I have no idea why I'm so hungry now. The scale is up 3-4 pounds, so it's obviously an unwarranted response. I'm hoping it's just PMS.

@shanaber I haven't seen you in a bit, hope all is well.

Hey @Elise4270 - I am doing ok. Just being in a bit of a funk, worrying about my race this weekend and then dh informed he invited his brother and SIL over for Thanksgiving. I know I am being a bit petty but I am not happy about having them over. They have been back living here in the US now for about 10 months and we have had them over almost every weekend. We have never been invited to their house. Their mail still comes to our house and dh takes it on himself to drive all the way to their house to drop it off. It will end up being fine but it just bugs me.

I decided last week to stop eating any protein supplements (no powders no bars) at least until after my race to see if my GI issues would subside. Nope doesn't seem to have had any impact and as a result I have not been getting nearly enough protein which means I am hungry all the time too.
Yesterday we went to Disneyland (in the rain) thinking it wouldn't be too busy. It was crazy how many people were there with tiny children in the cold rain. We had a late lunch there at one of the bakeries and had tomato basil soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. It was delicious and we enjoyed watching everyone in the rain. I wasn't hungry for dinner so just had a couple of crackers and some almonds. We walked a ton and checked out the new Star Wars land which was pretty cool. DH is a huge Star Wars fan and he was super excited to see it.

Tonight I am making Chinese from Trader Joes and tomorrow we head out to Palm Desert for the race.

Do you all make anything 'different' for Thanksgiving? I am going to make all the usual things but I think I may try a recipe I saw for mashed sweet potatoes with maple syrup and bacon. Sounded interesting and my bacon loving husband thought it sounded amazing even if he isn't much of a sweet potato fan. 😁

@shanaber Ya know you can go online usps.com and fill out a change of address for them? I'd do that in a sec! But maybe your DH likes hanging with his brother? I get it though. Visitors every weekend? and thanksgiving after a race? Nah, you're not going to want to entertain.

We just do the mastermind stuffing. No one ate it before I decided to add pecans, jalapenos, cranberries (they don't like them, but a bit of festive color and vitamin C) and a load of bacon. It'll just be something pathetic here, me and DH and DD in her room all day. Which is better than visitors! HAHA HA!

@shanaber Do you still have your gallbladder? ... You got a PCP visit scheduled?
  • shanaber
    shanaber Posts: 6,423 Member
Hmmm... @Elise4270 I do still have my gallbladder. No PCP visit schedule at this point I just had my physical about a month ago. I have had 'issues' for a while but they have gotten worse lately. The internist I saw previously thought IBS but didn't feel anything needed to be done at the time. Maybe that is the real problem and now it is getting to the point that a change needs to be made. I know there are some IBS recommended diets and I may take a look and see what they include/don't include to see if anything might be on the 'don't include' list. Otherwise I will bring it up again when I see my PCP after the 1st of the year. I see her quarterly for my thyroid so already have that scheduled.

Interesting on the stuffing. I may throw some cranberries in mine this year. I typically make it what I like because dh doesn't eat it. I put nuts (walnuts or pecans depending on what I have) and water chestnuts for a little added crunch.
I also make a cranberry, orange relish that we all love from my mother-in-law's recipe. Until I had hers I never knew you could eat cranberries raw. It is pretty tart but you can add as much sugar as you like. Fortunately we like it tart so not much sugar added especially if the oranges are really sweet.

@shanaber the cranberry orange relish sounds good! I'mgoing to check that out!

    Food plans for the day?
    Red Bull?
There are frozen tamales I may indulge in later.

I realized my increases appetite has followed an increase of pain an with pms, I may have found the culprit. So, Tylenol today and we’ll see if that somehow helps my runaway hunger.

I'm still having this thing where when I get home I just want to snack! Got home and ate 3-4 pieces of Dove chocolate. That's obviously not snacking - that's just junk!
@shanaber - good luck this weekend. Yeah, that would make me annoyed too about the mail and Thanksgiving!
@elise4270 - hope the pain goes away!

@ddmom0811 Are you under stress? I have found myself stress eating today. My step-daughter and family are coming for a pre-Thanksgiving weekend tomorrow. I love them and everything always turns out great, but I still stress over it. They like to go-go-go, which I do too, but there just isn't a lot of things in my little hometown for the 9 and 12 year old to do that they enjoy. I know the youngest would just as soon stay here and play with my dog - she loves dogs and doesn't have one. I've been cleaning house all week because, well, it doesn't have to be clean when it's just me here. LOL Fortunately, my mom came and helped me finish up today. But, now I just want to eat everything in the house.

@ddmom0811 3-4? wow, that's restraint in my book. I'd eat all of it or at least 8-10, several handfuls.

    Today's food?
well I have managed only coffee and an egg white grill from chick-fil-a this morning. AF is still playing hide and seek, but least my appetite is back to normal. No idea whats for dinner. DH just left to go run a 5k evening race under the christmas lights. He picked me up a nice shirt from last year for 5$. Swag! I'd almost bet he offers to bring home dinner after his race so I think I'll wait to eat until he's done.

@quilteryoyo Hope the kids find something to keep themselves occupied.

I thought I'd be helpful and got DD an ipad. She decided she didn't want it. Luckily she never opened it and it was a no hassle return. Kids these days. I swear. So DH agreed just to give her 200$ to get whatever she wanted and saved us about that in difference. I want cool stuff. Oh i did get a computer, its still cool and has a Hawaii themed background. There's a Honu that looks like @HonuNui could have taken the photo. I think I'm going to see if i can get dh to put off hawaii til late summer maybe july (anniversary), and i just dont wanna go or travel being so gimpy. I'm rambling... I'm tired of studying. I think its Netflix time.

What bits of materialism are you anticipating this holiday ? yes, We've made some donations too and will continue to do so as the need presents.

@quilteryoyo- probably am stressed with trying to get everything ready to be out the week after next. I ate way too much Saturday. Today was better. I’m off this week, but busy with dentist, doctor, etc. The week after next is the convention where my kids show their project This year it is a “test anxiety management” app. Pretty cool but they have to work on their presentation!

Well, so that motivation lasted all but a week  My weight really isn't up that much, couple pounds this year, but it really adds up.

I signed up for Freshly to have lunches delivered, I really struggle there. We also get Home Chef for dinner 3x a week so that limits my left-over options. Although you have to be careful b/c some of their meals are in the 1K calorie range! I have no idea what I want to keep my calories at, figure I will just try not to eat the candy and junk.

I am hitting the 3 week prior to marathon slump when I am d.o.n.e! I did a 17 mile trail run this weekend which took off some of the stress, and worked some stabilizer muscles the road running made me forget. I didn't run for 2 days after that...It is starting to get cold and that makes 5am runs less appealing. I am just a zombie after work though and it is dark by 5:30...oof.

I am looking forward to a nice holiday break of free running and then Jan I pick right back up to demystify the 50 mile road/trail run. I have till April...Oh boy. I dont know where I am going to find the time/motivation to run that kind of mileage.

On a more annoying note, I think I brought some sort of invisible biter from my trail run into the house. I already lost my recliner to them despite shampooing, vacuuming, spraying...the bites where horrible and lasted weeks! Now they seem to be in my couch. So pissed...I found a few options I hadn't before so hopefully hope is not lost.

Hi ladies and gentlemen (if there are any here)! I had my physical on Thursday. Stumped because my results were good. They tested everything and everything was in the normal range, except for MCHC which was only .2 off (standard range is 32- I forget and I was 31.8) but doctor said everything looks great. I really don't know. In all honesty, so many, but not all, of my problems are psychosomatic. I play it over in my head and make it real. In actuality, I feel better after the physical just to know something or at least more.

What I'm really nervous about is the mammogram on Friday. I will let you know the results. Where they are talking about, I experience occasional inflammation which is never good.

On an upbeat note, I went on a ten mile run on Saturday. I really didn't want to go but funny how you can start out with lead feet and leave behind a trail of problems. Thank you, God.

You ladies are making me hungry with all the Thanksgiving talk. The sweet potatoes with bacon and maple syrup sounds delicious. My favorite side dish is Jiffy corn casserole (I add half a cup of sugar).

@shanaber Kudos to you for keeping your mouth shut (my downfall) towards your sister and brother in law. We visited my sister in law over the summer (our vacation) and she was getting married for the second time and making everyone work all week to have her second dream wedding, when she has plenty of money to hire people. Some vacation and I *kitten* all week to him. Now she's building a house and sent a card, said "hopefully you'll be up after the house is finished next summer." My thoughts were "hopefully long after its finished because we're not going to be your movers." I'm willing to help but irritated when it's our vacation, supposed to be our rest and relaxation.

Anyway, I hope you all have a great day...

The visit from family went good. The girls played on their IPads some - it's hard with my limited internet connection. The youngest wore my dog out. She freely admits that she comes to see Tippy first and me second. We did go on a hike on Monday. It was a little bit more challenging than I had been led to believe, but we all made it and were glad that we did. We had to take our shoes off and wade across the very cold mountain stream to get to the waterfall. It was in all of it's glory since we had rain over the weekend. (Hope you can see the picture. It "inserted" it at the bottom of this post in a little window you have to click to open. It wouldn't insert like a normal picture, for some reason.)

I way overate while they were here too...and snacked on Doritos at 10:30 at night. I'm not going to feel guilty about that, or the next few days. I just know I'll need to work hard next week to get going back in the right direction.

@LoveyChar that’s good about the blood work! Hope the mammogram results are great too. And awesome on the long run!
@quilteryoyo — sounds like a fun visit! Tippy! Cute name!

I had my second shingles shot yesterday and started feeling awful today. Almost like a virus with headache, achy and so tired. Took ibuprofen a couple hours ago and feeling better. I have a lot of plans the next few days so need to get better.

@quilteryoyo Wow! Amazing waterfall! The girls look happy!

My run away eating with no running is way up past the alarm weight mark. It’s like I’ve preemptively eaten thanksgiving and Christmas for 6 families. I kinda don’t care any more. Dh calls me fat and i just shrug. So what. The surgeon visit is getting closer and that has been slightly consuming.

Wishing all a safe happy and healthy week.

@quilteryoyo - that waterfall is gorgeous. I would definitely wade across a cold stream to see it!
@LoveyChar - glad the physical went well. Now you just need to get out of your head and be positive with yourself! Hope all is well with mammogram too!
@ddmom0811 - I am still surprised that you are getting the shingles vaccination already. My doctor wants me to wait until I am in my late 60's or 70 even. I have had shingles (when I was 14) and they are no fun! Unfortunately having had them gives me no immunity.
@elise4270 - how did finals go? Are you feeling less stressed now? Maybe that will help calm the run away eating? Regardless try to enjoy your Thanksgiving and not worry too much about it. Hoping the surgeon visit goes well. Weren't they think a spring race for your comeback?

Today is 'women owned Wednesday' Who knew right? I am waiting for the rain to pause so I can get out for a short run and what better to do than shop! I found an athletic wear company that looks really good and not horrendously expensive. I am ordering a couple of pairs of running pants (with pockets!) to try them out. @Elise4270 I hope after your surgery, you will be able to get back into running and feel better. Sometimes you get in the habit of run away eating and it's hard to break. I know. That's why I have the yoyo part of my "name." My weight has gone up and down too many times to count. I am determined to make this the last time. But injuries make it hard. Really hard. BTW, I'm sorry your DH calls you fat. That's uncalled for and not helpful at all!

@shanaber Thanks for the referral. I looked at the site and will go back later. We get $10 off from your referral in addition to the discount.

    Thanksgiving pre-game goals:

    1. pick up race packet, check. Stuck in traffic 2 hrs because packet pickup is in the biggest shopping area of town.
    2. Make a pecan pie with less than 30g carbs per serving. Check.
    3. Make something low carb to eat when everyone else is eating the advertised donuts after the race. Check, made pumpkin cranberry oatmeal muffins.
    4. Get to bed in time to get 8 hrs sleep before race time. FAIL.

I realize this is going to sound a bit histrionic to anyone who is planning to feed 15 people, but Thanksgiving is still a major source of stress for me because of all the carbs!

    @Elise4270 Hang in there, buddy.
@LoveyChar It’s such a mix of relief and disappointment when they find nothing! On the one hand, yay, but on the other, whatever the problem was doesn’t go away! Keeping fingers crossed for the mammogram appointment.

    Thanks all.

@rheddmobile how do you make pecan pie with less than 30 grams of sugar? I haven’t made one in ages but remember it being all sugar. It’s on my banned-foods list because I’ll eat the whole pie and go buy more.

    Food
I cooked yesterday because dh couldn’t make any plans about what we’re doing today. I just make dressing/stuffing, cranberry relish and the turkey. I have a headache today and will have to review the foods I et yesterday. Oh easy, bacon in the stuffing. Oh well. And i put bacon under the skin of the turkey. Dh said it’d be weird. It in fact was awesome. He retracted and said it was the best bird ever, very juicy. It was my way of basting, or avoiding basting.

I trotted around the kitchen wall, living room to kitchen, kitchen to living room, pretending to cook eggs. I was a bit surprised. The leg/rod aches and the hip is okay clockwise, but counter causes pain or vice versa. And I can only land fully on my toes.

@shanaber I have finals in a few weeks. Monday starts dead week. I think my eating was horrible pms set off by the calorie deficit I was in. So, guess I’ll try to stagger my deficit so that doesn’t happen again, I consistently was eating to profound discomfort nightly.

I weighed this morning and wasn't overly surprised that I'm up 5 pounds from last week. We had Thanksgiving at my nephew's yesterday, after having Thanksgiving at my neighbor's on Thursday. A lot of sweets, a lot of salty food, and bodily functions are out of whack. So, I'm not stressing and fully expect a lot of this to be gone by next week. We shall see.

I feel like I have been away forever! All the Thanksgiving prep and stress and then being at the agility trial wore me out. I have been coming home and just crashing. We had a good Thanksgiving. The maple bacon sweet potatoes were a big hit although I found them very rich even though I made them with 1% milk and not the heavy cream called for in the recipe. My bil even ate some of my dressing. I was a bit shocked because both he and dh never eat it. Dh didn't try it but tried to remember back what it was he didn't like about it and couldn't remember. I made pumpkin pie and and apple galette for my bil who loves apple pie. He didn't even try it and went directly for the pumpkin pie. Oh well. Both were good, even though I messed up the crust on the pumpkin pie.

@rheddmobile - I can only imagine how hard Thanksgiving, and Christmas are for you! I would also like to know how you make a 'lower' carb pecan pie! We have a family recipe for a Jack Daniels, chocolate chip pecan pie that I am sure would not meet that requirement. I only make it to take to have with a group of friends or we will eat too much of it like @Elise4270. My dd makes it for her group Thanksgiving dinner with friends. They request it every year now.

@elise4270 - I hope the surgeon has some answers for you that don't involve more surgery!
@LoveyChar - I hope the mammogram results were good news!

Re: pecan pie. Karo pecan pie uses a whole cup of corn syrup plus a cup of brown sugar, so it’s right out for me even though I love it. And substituting sweetener won’t work with that texture. My compromise comes out somewhere halfway between a pecan pie and a pumpkin bread - basically I use the maximum number of pecans, add an extra egg and substitute mashed banana and canned pumpkin for some of the sugar and corn syrup. That plus a low carb crust gets it down to where I can enjoy a slice of pie even after eating stuffing with gravy.
