@elise4270 oh I'm so sorry they did that! Ugh, they should always ask if you want to be there at the end.

We took our old man to this emergency vet and they asked if we wanted to be in the room with him. They seem to be letting some people in so I assume its based on severity (one dog had already passed and the owner went in).

Big hugs @runs_on_espresso

Scale up this morning. But had fish and chips for dinner - salt galore, and over ate a little. 10k run planned this morning and am working tonight so not worried about the water weight. Trend is still down.

Pupdate: her vitals are all good. Her abdomen is a little tender but he said that could be from vomiting and anxiety. She's going to get some anti nausea meds and fluid.

Been waiting in my truck for 2.5 hours now. Hungry. Need water. I would have went to get lunch but I didn't know when they would need to talk to me and they have my license 🤣

Oh I'd have snapped a photo of it and sent it to them and gone to lunch.

Keep us updated.

I'm glad Shadow's vitals are good @RunsOnEspresso . Hopefully the anti nausea meds will help and the fluids will make him feel better. Positive vibes coming your way!

@Elise4270 That's awful that they took you're cat away from you. Sorry you had to go through that.

@RunsOnEspresso - glad he is doing okay! Scary!
@Elise4270 - make sure you watch a video on how to apply it. You only need a tiny amt and you shouldn’t touch it except with the little stick thing. (So says my sales lady). It’s just at Sephora. If you can get it in a local dept store they will give you lots of samples too.

Thanks @ddmom0811 I have another cream that has the spoon thing and knew. The box had instructions and I think you mentioned the video before. I offered the samples to DD. She was so happy.

Pupdate #2: she slept a bit this afternoon. The fluid humpback has gone down. She stared me down as I shredded her boiled chicken. Whined a bit. Ate it all (.25 cup of rice & .25 cup chicken sprinkled with probiotic). She went back to lick her bowl. Seems to be feeling better.

I called her vet to schedule a follow up in 2-3 days, as instructed and they were like we don't have any openings until July 11th. Really? You don't leave a few openings for instances like this?

I called another vet and they got her in on Thursday.

I wasn't happy with the first vet anyway so that was the nail in the coffin. We took her there in January for her annual and all they did was give her shots. They made a feeble attempt to look at her teeth but she didn't like them much. The room we were in was 2 folding chairs and a computer. It was bizarre and I didn't really like the feeling it gave.

Oh and our January appointment was only like a week or so out from when I called and now it's 2 months? Seems weird. And they had no real options or anything for me. Like really? I tell you she was at an emergency vet & needs a follow up and your just like 2 months. Ugh sorry rambling.

I'm in a weird limbo right now. I have calorie allowance, and am peckish though not hungry. But am not craving anything in particular. I have my dinner already sorted and will be going to work soon. Hmmm maybe save them for a late snack when I get home at 11pm. I'm usually hungry around then...

@RunsOnEspresso Yay! For changing vets. I'm all about the vibe. And if they didn't address your concerns and you are the one paying? They shouldn't expect to keep clientle.

@RunsOnEspresso - I just saw all the posts about your baby. I am so glad she is feeling better. I would change vets too. Any chance that she could have pancreatitis?

We have had the same vet pretty much since we moved here and before dd was born (well initial vet sold the practice and we stayed with the vet who bought it). She actually came to our house for one of our dogs so we didn't have to take her into the office. We have been with all of our pups when they have had to be put down and held them in our arms. I couldn't imagine not being with a pup or cat to love and comfort them.

Our vet, and I think most here right now because of Covid, don't allow you to bring your pet in. You have to wait in the car and they come and take your pet in (with their leashes) and then bring them back with the details. Last time Hobbes had to be seen for his test results and checking his lump she came out to the car just to chat with me and see how we were all doing.

@RunsOnEspresso I also thought the article was very interesting and then had to read some of the studies cited. @ddmom0811, I think the thyroid could be impacted by how your eating impacts all of the endocrine system. I have to say that I was very interested in the tests my nutritionist had me do that should all of the different endocrine levels interact and impact cortisol and how stress impacts all of it too (stress can include the stress on your body from not eating enough too). I would love to have it done again now that I have been retired for a while and most of the external stress is gone and I am eating better. It runs about $300 and I can't justify it just because I am curious.

@bearly63 - the surgery isn't really invasive. They make a small incision near the collar bone to insert the pacemaker and thread the wires into the vein (artery?) and into place in the heart. He said it takes only about 30mins but I have to stay the afternoon if it is done in the morning or overnight if it is done in the afternoon.

@ddmom0811 - I am hoping with the pacemaker I will be able to get my HR back up to 120-130 at least when I run. He said I should really be able to drive it at least to 150-160 which I have never hit.
The project for your kids sounds great. There are so many interesting things they could do and you are correct, they come up with the best ideas. Any chance your student is working for Google or Apple now?
The massive data analysis is exactly what big data and use neural networks for analysis is all about. I have read some about how they use 100' maybe 1000's of servers all networked together to actually run it all.

@Elise4270 - Love the idea of a girls vacation visiting @HonuNui!

I am still sort of running doing my mostly walk/run intervals until I have the surgery. Then I have a sling for my left arm and limited mobility for 2 weeks and then 4 weeks of limited activity (no running). I can go for walks though throughout. I realized after talking to dd yesterday that I should have talked to her before I saw the doctor. She brought up so many good questions I never thought to ask. I am going to try sending them through the patient portal and see if I get a response.

Food was good today. I actually had a bacon and egg sandwich for breakfast 😳 and Panera salad for dinner. I didn't fix a lunch per se but I had an apple and pb and a protein drink. I am determined to do better, not just overall now but throughout the day based on that article. Even if I am not an elite athlete or within the age range studied. I figure it still has to be a good thing.

@shanaber They didn't say anything about pancreatitis. It is something I was wondering about. I'll try to remember to ask at the follow up. Emergency vet didn't let me in but new place said I need to wear a mask to come in.

@shanaber - That student did work for Google last summer. I don't know if he got anything for this summer. Originally he was going to Moscow for the International Programming collegiate competition, with 2 of his other MIT teammates - so they were going to be practicing and doing research at MIT this summer. But that was pushed back a year. Luckily he's just finishing 2nd year so can still go next year. Yes, the data analysis is mind boggling to me with all the servers required to run it all. And in 20 years, all that will be able to run in the palm of our hand!

@RunsOnEspresso - adorable picture and hope he's feeling good today!

Weight down back to under 150. Yay, only took 4 days to get back to where I was before the one night away, lol.

Rest day today, w/exception of one mile run. I'm sore from strength training yesterday. A variation of my smoothie -- added an Acai packet. I do love the Vitamix!
Lunch -same salad
Dinner - we usually have pasta on Friday nights because of our long bike ride. But I still have a Hello Fresh meal left, due to the later delivery this week, so it will be that. Some type of chickpea Mediterranean mix I think.

@RunsOnEspresso So glad your pup is on the mend. It brought back memories of us having to put down one our little gals last fall. She just kept losing weight....kidney issues. Low protein diet etc. She was in good spirits but I was so stressed that she was suffering. Finally was able to convince my husband that it was time - she was down to 5 lbs and having trouble walking far. Still wagging her tail. When we did it, they let us hold her and it was so fast. No pain...but man, did we ugly cry in the vet office. I'm choking up as I write this. Now my other one, 15, is really starting to age....confused, losing her hearing, cataracts. Some days she is perky others confused and sleeps a lot. I will be a mess when its her time. She nursed me back to health when I had thryoiditis and my husband was travelling full time. I love that our vet loves my dogs. They sent us the sweetest condolence card after Hershey was gone.

@elise4270 Thanks for the tip...searching now.

@ddmom0811 Sorry...I wasn't paying attention. Which La Mer do you use....the creme?, Soft Creme? Concentrate? Tell me all of your beauty secrets (Jk...lol) Smart kid there....my friend's whose kids did Comp Sci at UT are all making bank. My kids, so damn smart, are working or will work (if she chooses to pursue medicine) twice as hard and make half. I just keep telling them that the world needs a few people that aren't coders.

@avidkeo I know that feeling. I try to drink something and see how I feel after. This is usually when I get into trouble and start eating mindlessly....chips, crackers, nuts - OMG the calories....

@shanaber Glad that the surgery sounds less invasive. That time will hopefully fly and you can get back to your running schedule.

I weighed in today down 2 lbs from yesterday, after that big burn but eating back most of the calories. I am a 1-2 day lagger when it comes to weight loss, which is why I don't believe the scale half the time. And I know part of my issue is a seemingly slow digestive system....not nearly as "efficient" as I used to be. WTH!

Exercise:
Going to jog/ walk today and do some core/upper body. Not to sore from yesterday and I think I am doing another long ride tomorrow. I have an addictive personality....not gonna lie.

Food:
cooked my stirfry last night and cooked up the 2 extra chicken breasts to make a salad with for dinner. Think Ill make pizza dough for tomorrow night.

Could be a stressful weekend. DD needs to get her TMDSAS Texas med school app in this weekend. I have been editing along the way - so hard to be so deep and introspective, write like a professional, not make a single grammar mistake (they will toss it in the garbage for one misstep) and try to stand out amongst a sea of kids who knew they wanted medicine when they were 3. We don't have high hopes but its all you can do. She needs to rock the MCAT.

The good news - she got a Lab Tech job at the same pediatric office where we went when they were little. She will be doing the blood draws, swabs, swipes, etc I think. I have memory etched in my brain of taking her for pre-K checkup and having to get shots. They had to chase her down, hold her down, all while she screamed at the pediatrician (great man) "I hate You". He is still there. Can you say "payback is hell" Lol. Full circle.

@RunsOnEspresso - I hope Shadow is still doing well this morning! Give her some love from Hobbes and me.
@ddmom0811 - it is so great that your student is at MIT and working summers at Google and doing all that great research! It is minds like that will keep us flying forward with technology!
@bearly63 - my dd exclaimed when she was small that she would never, ever study or work with computers! She had heard all of our discussions around the dinner table since we both worked in IT and vowed to stay away from it. She is very at ease though dealing with different systems and working through their issues, especially the medical records systems, most of which she hates.
So great that your dd got a tech position, especially in an environment and with people that she is familiar with. Would they allow her to do blood draws? My dd had an entire year of training and had to pass a state exam to be able to do draws. Mostly the students practiced on each other once they got to that point but they also roped in family to come in and be their test patients. Yes, I was a guinea pig, err, pin cushion at least once when up visiting her.

I'm supposed to be running this morning per my regular schedule but not really feeling. May go just for a walk. It is cool for once. Getting into what we call June Gloom with lots of marine layer (cool clouds off the ocean). I really should get out and enjoy it. Hobbes is wiped out from doggy daycare so may leave him home though.
Food - no idea (and this is my problem!). Will have my usual breakfast of yogurt and granola but after that I just don't know yet.

@shanaber Phlebotomy here is just a "let me show you, now you go do it". I know the blood bank will take on workers with no training and teach them. There are certificate programs that take a month (or more) then I think they pass a national exam. I bet it's similar in Texas- @bearly63 ? You have a placement date on the PM? I hear its an uneventful procedure. Hopefully it'll go smoothly and you'll feel 23 again! Be runnin' laps around all of us, (especially me, eh?)

I have no plans today. I have been working through a textbook, doing some light studying. It's fun again without the pressure of OH KITTEN, LEARN THIS (and 57 more things)!

@elise4270 - I can't imagine having an untrained person stick a needle in my arm and especially not my child's! Yikes!
No date yet for the PM. Hoping the scheduler might call today so I can plan for it. I am supposed to go to the dentist on Tuesday for routine cleaning but think I will cancel it until after. I typically have to take antibiotics before I go (rheumatic fever again) and I really don't want to mess up anything by going and then have to put off the PM. Not the end of the world but I would like to just get it done.

Pupdate: She held down her dinner and even went back to lick the bowl. She slept through the night (Wednesday night she was very restless). She got up this morning and had her breakfast. She wanted to go on my run but she didn't do her normal yelling. Vet said no activity until her follow up so she stayed home. She's now sleeping in bed.

I'm trying to keep track of everyone in here but so hard on my phone!

I hope they get the PM appointment set soon @shanaber!

When I was a kid it took my mom and a nurse to hold me down while the doctor did the swab for strep. I still can't deal with it. Sometimes brushing my teeth if I go too far back I gag.

I think I like the blood draw regulations in CA. I hate getting them done and my anxiety goes crazy. If someone doesn't seem to know what they are doing I want to run

@shanaber I didn't draw blood, but I used to give my dad B-12 shots every week. He said he couldn't feel them. So, either he has a high threshold of pain, or my untrained self did a pretty good job. I hope they get the surgery scheduled soon. Waiting is the worst.

@RunsOnEspresso Glad Shadow seems to be doing better. I'm a gagger too. The dentist has that on my chart so they know to be careful.

@RunsOnEspresso - in solidarity Hobbes got sick this morning too! I am so glad Shadow is doing better!

I actually used to give dh his allergy shots but the needle was so short and tiny it was barely a poke. Cate had a number of procedures when she was tiny... having blood drawn was a major issue. They could never find her vein even using the tiny needles. I remember in the hospital a tech trying so many times I finally told him no more. Go find someone who knows what they are doing. She had to have IVPs every 6 months (not sure if they even do them any more) and she would scream the entire time and I could hear her from down the hall. For many years she was terrified of nurses primarily but mostly anyone dressed in white. Interestingly she loved all her doctors as a child. Makes me smile thinking about it now and thinking that she is now that medical person taking care of the tiny humans...

I did get out for a power walk using the Peloton app and it was lovely out! Dh went to Raising Canes so that will be lunch and it was too late for breakfast when I got home.

Hugs @shanaber. Poor Hobbes!

So no run today as you will have all seen. So so so frustrating. Oh well.

But I still stuck to calorie goal today! Yay! I guess since I didn't run, I wasn't as hungry? That makes sense. Lol.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Scale was down to 138 this morning. Yeah! This is my lowest this go around of weight loss. Now that I'm at this point, I'd love to be able to stay below 140. Wasn't it just a few weeks ago I said I'd be happy if I could stay below 145?
