Runners that need some nutritional accountability

@bearly63 - Happy Birthday! Loved that video!
@elise4270 - Stuffed French Toast! Never had it, sounds good!
@RunsOnEspresso - I liked How Bad Do you Want it. Motivating anyway! I am reading Big Lies in a Small Town. Really good so far.
I had one of those wake up at 1am nights and couldn't fall back asleep, so got up and snacked. Could have been hungry from the ride. This AM had a smoothie and will have salad for lunch. Given how I felt so tired at the end of my ride yesterday decided I need to rest the body a little bit so didn't jump up and exercise like I usually do.
So will do core workout (the last one in the 4 week Peloton core workout!) and then a run of some sort for streak.
I decided that the reason I've not been as fast on the bike outside the last two weekends is the lack of ability to eat while riding (Invisalign). Since it's just DH and I for the present time, I could just make us stop at a rest stop, take out aligners, eat, rinse and go on. But what a pain. Plus we are avoiding all public WCs at the moment. So I think I just have to limit the rides to 2 hours which is doable in FL heat with only water. I was in the habit of taking a bite of a kid's Clif bar every 20-30 mins. Would usually eat 1 an hour that way. But to go 3 hours with only water, just isn't feasible (and it wasn't that hot yesterday!) I guess this is actually the perfect time for me to have the Invisalign. We had a 100 mile run (Tour de Cure) in March which was pushed back until July but there's no way I can do that in July with this fuel plan. I researched online and some people said they wore them two hours, took them out to eat. Some said they just leave them out the 3-5 hours they ride. I think my choice is going to be limit to two hours and just Peloton! I don't care about getting in 100 miles right now.
The same would be true with running a HM or M. But I don't have a plan for that - I'm happy with 6 miles max.

I got a notification that my skin pathology report was available, after trying to view it via iPad through trial multifocal contact lenses that I can not see close despite the correction.... I finally was able to email it to myself. I expected nasal, no auto correct BASAL cell carcinoma. The spot was only the size of a pencil tip. It’s not BCC. It’s squamous cell. Now waiting on the call to schedule Mohs surgery for it. Least that is what I anticipate. Guess I’ll go take these contacts out...
July 1st 830 am osteotomy re-do.
Remember your sunblock.6 -
I went over calories last night because I don't do math in my head. At least not "complicated" math.
I had like 310 calories left. I wanted ice cream. A serving of ice cream is 210 calories for 87g. So I weigh it out and go that should be close. I was only over by 95 calories so not bad!
Sometimes I will actually do the math and figure out how many grams I can have. I was like eff it last night.2 -
@ddmom0811 yeah...the Invisalign’s get in the way of certain things. I wonder if you could suck down some applesauce or some other more liquid type sustenance. I could drink white or clear liquids ie white wine with a straw. It’s a pain but worth it.
@shanaber of course when I researched the stress fracture I came across some studies where some people ended up having plates put in. Really hoping to avoid that so taking it easy.
@elise4270 yikes! So glad you got in and got that checked. I have found that the most bland looking spots are sometimes the scariest. For me it’s a matter of when not if. Grew up in SO Cal at the beach. I do wear sunscreen daily on my face and upper body but tend to run without it on my legs. My dermatologist yells at me regularly. I see her running on my trail wearing pants, long sleeve sun shirts and those hats with the back flap. In 95 degrees.1 -

I'm doing well, had another loss again this morning, just water weight again, but back to the weight I was before loading for the long run, yay. And been able to stick to goal, even yesterday woo hoo.
Fasted a bit this morning, saving my calories for the evening when I actually like to snack. That works for me on non exercise days.3 -
@elise4270 - Oh gosh, hope they can get you in quickly! A pencil tip - wow that is amazing they saw it. I used to love the multifocal lenses and then they stopped working. For about 2-3 years I've been wearing one contact for distance in left eye and then nothing in right. But for the last two months at home, I've worn nothing. Only if I drive somewhere do I put them in.
@bearly63 - I am now wearing pants when I ride my bike for the same reason. Derm told me I have to wear pants while cycling (It was on my leg). I don't run much outside in daylight. During a normal school year I run at 4:30am, but now I'm sleeping later and later!
You drank white wine with them in? Wow! I am not into white wine much lately but I could be convinced. I was thinking that seltzer and vodka are certainly clear. But I can deal with it for drinking. I've done it 2 months already!
@avidkeo - yay on weight!
Going to school today 12-3 to pass out cords to the seniors. The kids can't get out of their cars and I guess I am a runner. (appropriate, lol). They drive up and say their name, then I run in to get their cords. There is about 10 of us working it that shift. This goes on for 3 days. We were originally going to hand them the cords but now we put them in their trunk. Poor seniors.3 -
I have been so tired lately. I anticipated that the hormones would give me more of a pick me up. I took benadryl to sleep last night and feel like I actually got some rest.
Food
Eh... I had fried chicken last night. My guts didn't like it at all. I overate yesterday and did nothing but watch netflix. I hope today I am able to get back on track.
I have music homework to do and a meeting at 1pm. So some structure today. Maybe I will get out for a walk afterwards. It funny, I don't think of myself with any artistic talent or interests, but this homework in music theory has me really interested in in it, it's all patterns. I think I could really get into it. Now I want a keyboard so I can "study" it. I may pose it to the instructor and see if I can get some guidance in it.
skin
thanks for the support. I am not concerned about the spot as its easily managed. There is a high chance it will reoccur. I'll just continue to be watchful.
Scale
linear.
Covid
We went from 2 cased to 13 in two weeks. I suppose that is what was anticipated. Just everyone seems to be of the mind set that; we stayed home and the risk is diminished and it's not at all. I think the folks at high risk are still distancing though. DH was asked if he wanted to go back to work and declined. Funny, cuz for a while he hated working from home and now enjoys it.
Choose wisely... Remember what happened in Indiana Jones? 'cept, you'll get heart disease, diabetes, gout, hyperlipidema. vascular inefficiencies, colon cancer, hemorrhoids, chronic fatigue, and faaatttt. haha!2 -
@avidkeo - you are doing so great! Yay!
@ddmom0811 - I feel so bad for the seniors this year. I did watch the specials for them on Saturday night and thought they were pretty neat. I see all the signs in and around my neighborhood and wish there was something I could do to acknowledge them. I hope the pandemic doesn't discourage any of them (high school or college) from their goals.
Invisaligns - I think one of the big concerns (beyond the stains) is that they hold sugars against your teeth that could result in decay so even if you drink white wine or vodka be sure to have some water after.
I wear long sleeves when I run now but when it is hot I do wear shorts (yes with a long sleeve shirt) and cover all exposed parts with sunscreen. I try to have sleeves that come down over my hands too since they seem to get so much sun and the sunscreen doesn't seem as effective there. My arms look SO white now! I am sure the dermatologist will be happy though.
@Elise4270 - I am so glad you had that spot checked! I am sure you know that music and math are closely related and the music patterns can be described by mathematical series. A long while ago I saw an analysis where they took mathematical formulas and used them to derive (compose?) music. It was pretty fantastic.
So I met with the cardiologist this morning. I have been so nervous about it. The good news, my heart is very strong with just some slight valve issues related to RF as a kid and age. The not so good news from the heart monitor study, my heart is lazy (dh's description) and hr drops very low and my heart likes to take breaks for 2-3seconds and is likely the reason I get dizzy. It also is no longer increasing the way it should to support activity like walking or running (the reason my HR hasn't gotten up to even 120 when I run any longer). Next step is a consultation with an electrophysiologist who will be able to tell me more and whether or not it can wait until December when I am on Medicare. Dh is in favor already of not waiting but I want to see what the recommendation is.
Food - had my yogurt breakfast rest of the day is unknown.
I did make the banana bread yesterday but it 'fell'. I have never had that happen before. It tested done but when I cut into it, it doesn't look like it cooked enough. Dh likes it so we (he) will eat it anyway.5 -
@shanaber Hey good news then! Knowing more and having answers is always good, helps to formulate a plan. I knew math and music are related. I think now I am seeing how. The instructor liked the idea of having a keyboard/tiny electronic piano. I'll email her and ask for suggestions or if the one I want is really what I think it is. This whole world of music is pretty cool. I just hate that this shoulder is hindering my physical violin progress. Well, it should be motivation to do my PT. The banana bread is just a little dense then? Bet its still yummy and would make a good french toast if you were inclined.
@ddmom0811 I know the invisaligns are suppost to be worn 24/7, but you could get away with just not wearing them during your ride. I mean, it's not like your 13 and won't put them back in. Could even get your ortho to endorse it, I bet.
Well... now what? Bear's taking a baby nap with a belly full of IP chicken (spoiled), the house is cleaner (than it was 4 hours ago), did music, ate veggies (and last 1/2 piece of a gut terrorizing fried chicken tender), studied music theory... could go walk I guess and listen to music.2 -
Yay for the news @shanaber, it's hard trying to decide what to do though. At the end of the day, do what's best for your health, if you can.
Well I'm on cloud 9. Was on call for work last night. Got the dream call out, nothing until 530am, and worked till just after 7. Because the call was before 6am I have a paid day off! And a dream call for me because I was asleep at around 930 last night, and woke a minute or two before the phone rang, so had a great sleep!
I'm going to the craft store today, it's DD 2s 4th birthday in a couple of weeks, and she's getting a rainbow cake for her birthday, I think lol. So going to go get some supplies. And I'm going to do my run along the foreshore, which I like to do when ever I can!
Just going to relax and enjoy really.3 -
I'm thinking about doing the Memorial Day to July 4th run streak. I can probably do a mile easy on lifting days and my usual runs. If I actually do them 🤣3
-
@shanaber Glad to see you have some anwers. I would also wait for the consultation. 🤞🏻0

@Elise4270 Great news that the spot is squamous cell. So much better than basal. Since many of you are interested in medical items, you may find it interesting that my dad had a squamous cell cancer on the surface of his eyeball a couple of years ago. They were able to remove it with no damage to his vision - it was mostly on the sclera.
@RunsOnEspresso Math will get you every time.
@Avidkeo You are doing great! Looking forward to some more cake porn.
@ddmom0811 and @shanaber The county schools here are scheduling 10 minutes time frames where the seniors and a few (< 10) of their family members can go into the school gymnasiums where the senior will walk across the stage and receive their diploma, I'm assuming from the principle of the school. They are going to have professional photographers take pictures and video and the family can get pictures too. Not sure what precautions they are using in the "transfer" of the diploma. I thought that was a pretty good idea.
@Elise4270 Music is one of the few activities that use both sides of your brain. That's one reason, I believe, that people with Alzheimer's can still sing songs they used to know way after they know nothing else.
@shanaber That sounds like reasonably good news. When is your consult with the electrophysiologist? Hopefully they can get you fixed up soon so you can do all the things you enjoy and want to do. Until then, take it easy. BTW, my banana bread falls all the time. It still tastes good, just looks ugly.

@quilteryoyo I couldn't remember which one was worse, basal or squamous. Pretty amazing what they can do these days! I go next week to have a larger area excised.
I thought I was pretty good with sunblock, but I know I haven't been always, and surely not so as a youth. I admit to only using an 8spf or 4 on my legs in the summer. I may bump it to a 20.
Walk
Made it out for a good walk. Was a car parked in a secluded spot, where the paved path ends and loops back or you can cut off to the gravel trails. Guy was creepy. Tall skinny in jeans with a black mask on. Mind you, no one here is wearing masks out at the park and it's 85-90F. No closer than I got I could tell he smelled stale, roaches, maybe cigarettes or just unwashed. He had a small terrier with him. I got the creaps, stopped pulled out my phone and txt DH, just to send a message, I'm connected buddy- don't even think about it. I walked another 30-40 minutes and he was still there in his car with ac on. I took two pics of the car, gave him a look. Wtf dude? Who could you possibly be waiting on? A 12-20yr old girl to grab? I warned a runner headed his way she was probably 18ish. She looped back early not putting herself near him and thanked me on her way back. I mean, sure could be nothing, but I can't possibly think of a legit reason for him to be there. Creepers gotta be lovin' the masks. So the rest of y'all be safe with the dudes hangin' out in the park with masks on and little dogs for the kiddies to pet. Man I wanted to resort to some vigilante type tactics. I drove around to get his plate and he had left. So perhaps my blatant snap shot unnerved him. Man I hate fn creepers.

@elise4270 - gotta trust your instincts on creepy guys hanging out in places they probably don't belong or have any reason for being. I too have warned other women/runners on occasion about creepy guys on our trail. Not lately because there are so many people out there in general. I am glad you were able to get out for a walk!
I on the other hand have done nothing. Nothing but sit here at the computer and read things on Twitter and FB. I hate it when I do that and I have no real good reason for not doing a workout or moving or cleaning or...
No date yet for the next appointment. I am sure they will call though, but first the insurance has to approve.
@quilteryoyo - that is a great idea for the seniors. I would think if they wear masks and the principle or whoever, has washed their hands or uses hand sanitizer the hand off should be fine.2 -
@Elise4270 My understanding is that squamous cell is easier to remove if caught early. So, it is easier to treat. Great job on listening to your gut with the creepy guy and scaring him away.

Gah ate too much. So so full. Way over calories again. Sigh. Oh well, life is a roller-coaster.1
-
@shanaber - wow, that is a lot of news. I've never heard of anything like that. But I have no heart experience other than my husband having the a-fib incidents last year. I hope you can make a plan soon.
@Elise4270 - wow, that is creepy! Glad you told the girl.
@quilteryoyo - we have a "take picture" day next week for our seniors as well. It's spread over several days.
@avidkeo - what's the foreshore?
@RunsOnEspresso - I've never done that streak. Only done the holiday streak (for about 4 years in a row), and this mental-health streak of my own. Today is day 60 (I think) and I am going to go thru May and then stop.
It was really nice to see some of my seniors yesterday. We have strict facial hair rules and length of hair rules and the boys all had beards and long hair! So cute. It was 12-3 and since I had eaten breakfast later than normal I didn't eat first. Then I was stuck there with no way to really take a break to brush, etc. But it's not like I HAVE to eat each meal I guess. They had candy out for us so I picked up M&Ms thinking, save for treat at home. So at 3 I left and had an appt to pick up my taxes at 5 from my tax guy (yeah, we are late this year). I went to Planet Smoothie and this lady comes walking out and says "they aren't wearing masks while making smoothies!!! and when I asked they got defensive!" So I left. Ended up eating a bag of peanut M&Ms, a chick filet small ice dream and a banana. Rushed home and brushed! I was down this morning, lol.
Peloton is arriving this morning!! Not clear if they will actually install it all the way, based upon the instructions Peloton sent me about setup. We can manage doing it, if they won't.
2 -
@ddmom0811 Funny about the senior boys all growing beards and long hair. Yeah for the peloton. Hope you enjoy it!0
-
@ddmom0811 It's a walkway that goes all the way along the sea front in our city - thought foreshore was a fairly world wide term but I guess not lol.
Pic to give you an idea...[\spoiler]0 -
@avidkeo - love that picture of you. You look great!!
@ddmom0811 - I am sure those boys love having long hair and beards for graduation! Won't they have a story to tell! Is the Peloton there? Have fun!1 -
@Avidkeo I agree, you look great! That's an awesome place to run!1
-
I've been eating 200-300 calories over every day and still feeling like I need more. Not necessarily hunger pains but like in my body. Not sure how to describe it. My meals have been fairly healthy and typical of my usual meals. My calorie goal is almost 2000 calories so not like I'm eating 1200.
Sigh. I'll weigh in this weekend and see where I'm at. Maybe recalculate numbers.3 -
I don't know how other people with chronic crap manage. I find it old, and I'm cranky. Might be time for a tylenol or 400.
Weight
not down. little up. and I feel beat that I can't seem to get this moving in the right direction.
Food
yesterday was bad. day before that was bad. fried chicken and mcdonalds. ugh i don't even like big mac's. Today? I'll try to pull it together and make something with the Beary's IP chicken, likely soup.
Positives
Violin is coming along despite the shoulder. I bought a small keyboard that just arrived so I can do some music theory lessons, major, minor, learn keys, inversions...and all that stuff. DD said it sounds like music now.
My face is back to itching today. I wonder if the lotion twice a day and the turmeric has helped. Yesterday I frumped and did nothing, (did violin, laundry, netflix). I think I've worn the same clothes for 3-4 days, I shower but put them back on cuz I'm too fat for regular-feel normal clothes. I keep reminding myself that this isn't out of my control, so quit acting like it is. 80% of weigh loss is kitchen. It's not because I can't get out like I want. I have a bra that I contemplated throwing out because it was just too big, now it's the only one that "fits".
Beary
He wants me to go outside with him and is playing the knocking game at the door. Suppose I could go try to find a place for some lavender DH bought me two weeks ago. Maybe trick myself into doing something today.
I think I'm giving up on the shoulder. It's not getting better. Deodorant is hard to put on. I've only contemplated shaving. Think I just have to wait this one out.3 -
Thanks @shanaber and @quilteryoyo
@elise4270 I'm glad you are able to do some violin despite the shoulder. Try to be kind to yourself, celebrate what you can do and forgive what you are struggling with, because we are imperfect people.
On that note, the roller coaster ride that is me attempting to lose 10kg... Its true what they say, the final 10 is the hardest! The lsdt 3 days have been food hell. I've eaten around 1000 calories over maintenance for the last 3 days. So of course I've gained a couple of kg. I do really well at work but have absolutely no will power at home. I don't know why. I am frustrated, but not feeling particularly stressed. I think part of this is the change I've had from having to send my watch in. It gave much a sense of control, and now I don't have that, I feel like im floundering and double guessing myself.
I keep wanting to chuck it all in and just get fat again. But I've worked too hard for too long to quit now. And I really really don't want to gain it all.
It's amazing the highs and lows we go on during any weight loss. Thanks guys for being there for both.1 -
@avidkeo - beautiful picture! I think we would call it a boardwalk, though it's not made of boards.
The final 3 pounds is my hardest. I can't seem to get < 150!
@elise4270 - I wish I knew the answer to get your brain in the right direction for food. But, as I always say, we knew how to figure it out, we'd all be millionaires. I think all of us have probably been right where you are and then one day something kicks in. For me it was summer and I realized I would have nothing to wear to school which was starting in two weeks if I didn't stop. Hugs!
The peloton is here and set up. I love it. I've only done 3 20 min sessions thus far. I realized today that it was meant to be a strength training day but I was so excited to use the Peloton I forgot! Oh well, I did 3 last week, so I'm just counting one for this week. I had a Doctor appt this morning for annual GYN. I cannot believe I let a summer go by without going. I really need to go every year because I usually get the bad paps and have to go back. Ugh! I was just so busy last summer with working on the master schedule using a new database (that I get to use again this summer), that I never went. Today I made many appts! -- mammo, physical, and an ortho appts for my numb two fingers on one hand. I decided it is Ulnar nerve entrapment. Though I don't know why this would suddenly happen unless it's because of being home all day using computer. But, it's not awful and doesn't prevent anything at the moment, just really weird.
OK, now I need to do a quick run for my streak!
3 -
I made chicken tortilla soup without cheese or tortilla. I thought I’d try to get moving a bit today and went to throw the tree trimmings into the ravine that dh cut a week ago. Bad idea. My back is killing me, again. I managed a little violin but it hurts to sit, stand or lay so I’m an unhappy person.
I’m okay on calories right now as long as I don’t eat anything else.
Drugs please
Valium has zero calories so that a possibility and I may count the rx pain killers I have and see if I can spare one. I’m saving them for after surgery. They only give you a weeks worth and I will have to go an additional week without, bone cutting pain needs rx meds. They are terrible, don’t provide much relief but something is better than nothing. Thanks prescription abusers. I will ask for something stronger that I can cut in half and make last the two weeks before my follow up/refil opportunity. Which by week 3, I think I was mostly transitioned to Tylenol.
When I went to grab the brush, my neighbor’s behind me were smoking pot. Ya I know, no big deal. But I sure wish they’d move. Like 8 cars there all the time, and they are loud. They are too close to my bubble.
@ddmom0811 congratulations on the peloton and appointments! Ha! I never do the pap, maybe once every 5 years the doc will catch me on it. Although mines not been abnormal yet. Last time I had one the gal, not at my pcp, put her finger in my rectum with no warning. Uh nuh lady. Should have let me know before. So I won’t be using them at all. I’ll go back to my dear pcp that’s like an uncle!2 -
@RunsOnEspresso I think that happens to all of us sometimes. Maybe it's our bodies telling us it needs a break from whatever we are doing to it.
@Elise4270 Hang in there. I think with all you are going through, you are doing amazing. Hope the back feels better with some rest.
@Avidkeo I'll say "hang in there" to you too. I am with you. I've been over 140 three days this week and have been doing well with my food. These last 5 pounds are going to kill me. LOL I sure hope maintenance isn't this hard!
@ddmom0811 Glad you are loving your Peloton. Good for you for making all of those important appointments.

I am just catching up. Busy day and the Covid Kid is back in town for Sisters graduation in the living room. I spent the evening trying ensure that my Ipad/Laptop or phone will cast ( not mirror) to our TV so we can watch her silly virtual graduation. I am mad but it will pass. Just a typical meltdown 🤬.
The good news - her teacher finally posted her grade tonight. A! She got the 4.0 that she needed. Big sigh of relief here. We will celebrate in the living room big time on Sat.3
