DH bought 3 pints the other day, one for each inhabitant of our home. I ate all of them.3 -
Ahhh the mid month appetite has kicked in. I'm absolutely ravenous and want to eat everything. And I'm bloated. It helps that I know what's causing it now, and I'm drinking a ton of water to compensate, but I just want all the things.
Fortunately the next 2 days I'm eating at maintenance... So that helps. I still have about 700 calories for the rest of the day (yet to have dinner).
But boy it's annoying. My brain keeps going "icecream, no bread, no muffin. Just one snack, it won't hurt."
Shut up brain!1 -
Yay @elise4270! Adulting is good and look at what you accomplished today!
Funny how you remember things from when you were a kid. We never went to McDonalds or any other fast food place. My mom didn't want to waste the money. But my dad would go to A&W usually once in July or August and get a gallon of root beer to make floats at home.
I had ice cream and berries last night. No more berries so the ice cream will wait. Hoping to get more berries tomorrow or Friday. Have to get there early before they run out.
@ddmom0811- so funny about the urologist! Hard to have those conversations especially when the doctor is cute!
Have fun with the VitaMix! You can find lots of recipes online too.
How do you like the 3D printer? I would love to have one just to play with to see how they work.
Test day today. It was pretty cool to see my heart functioning on the display, the tech did explain what I was looking at in general terms but would not explain/answer some of my questions leaving them to the doctor. I didn't really expect her to but things caught my eye and made me curious. I don't think I realized I was stressed about it but I came home and decided to take a short nap and slept solidly for 2 hours. No run, no exercise today...
Ate my usual yogurt breakfast, a snack for lunch and had a panera salad for dinner. Finished the Mother's Day cupcake sharing with dh too. Hoping to hear from the doctor by Friday but maybe it won't be until next week.3 -
Well i think I ended up about 200 calories over maintenance. Sigh. Oh well. It's just one day. So annoying though.3
-
I noticed that one of the blogs on the home page referenced this article: https://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/get-over-it/ which I thought I was pretty good to help yourself remember to not beat yourself up for skipping exercise one time, or overeating one meal/day.
@shanaber - The one I have in my classroom is a MakerBot. I've had it for about 4 years and so it's not that great compared to the newer versions. It's fun to print things though! The kids love it. I made my first smoothie today and yum!!! It looks awful, lol, but was so good. almond milk, spinach, athletic greens, pineapples, bananas and blueberries.
@elise4270 - your smoothie sounds great! Yay, more adulting!

Ugh. I had to put on jeans today to get out for my appointment. Shoulder is uncooperative, even putting on deo is a challenge. And the jeans are so snug my shoulder isnt strong enough to pull them up. Tomorrow I get a shoulder shot. Today, Tylenol. Would love a nap but have skin appointment this afternoon.
Food today?
Maybe an egg McMuffin! Haha! I had planned to make potato's au graten. But need to get gruyere. Maybe the red bull will kick in and I'll be up to it.
I have a freezer full of veggies. So maybe I can put together a soup.2 -
The bruise is even more impressive today @Avidkeo !
Yesterday dh was fussing about whacking the back of his hand while trying to start the gas chainsaw. It's about the size of my pinky nail. I said "that's not a big deal" he disagreed and I showed him my leg. He said "omg! You need to go to the doctor!". Ya. I win.
Hormones.
Testosterone zero
FSH high
Estrodiol low
DHEA low.
Thyroid fine
I wish I had a copy of it to digest.
Said I was menopausal. No surprise there. They gave me a low dose of DHEA, said that could be contributing to the weight gain, I admitted to eating way to much too. Estrogen and testosterone pellets today. I hope it'll help with my aches and sleep, maybe my scaley itchy dry face too.
Researching the DHEA according to Mayo clinic it is something to avoid. I think I'll take it a bit and see. It is only 5mg. Seems doses range from 25-300mg. So what they gave me is very low, and hopefully "safe". Any experience?
I made an appointment next week to discuss skin care. They have expensive stuff to fight sagging face skin. So, why not. What do you do for face care? I admit I don't do anything until recently since it's gotten so bad (sagging, red, irritated). I found ponds works well and use Rx hydrocortisone in petroleum jelly when it gets bad. (Doc endorsed).
Food
Half an English muffin with modest amount of butter and jelly
Red bull
Earl grey
My tmi contribution. I ate too many dried cranberries yesterday. They don't digest and live life in the fast lane.

@Elise4270 That bruise is impressive today. I don't have any experience with DHEA, sorry. I hope you get relief with the things they are doing for you. I took birth control pills for so many years to help regulate my period, that when I went through menopause, I didn't take any form of hormonal treatment. I figured I'd had my limit. I still have hot flashes, but not as bad as I used to. Love not having a period anymore. So freeing.0
-
@Elise4270 Adulting is overrated but you are killing it! That bruise though!!!! You win. Never heard of DHEA. Face routine - was using prescription Tretinoin creme from dermatologist (Vitaman A) for wrinkes. It's out. Also use Olay daily moisturizer and good daily tinted sunscreen brand called Elta.
@ddmom0811 More giggling from the cruise story. In reality, if I was to go on a cruise I would never leave my room due to the germs so I guess I may need some antibiotics too. You will love the Vitamix. I pretty much use mine for smoothies and of course, margaritas. But you can make great salsas etc. Soups.....just about everything. My favorite smoothie? Some form of milk, greek yogurt plain, Cacao powder, ground flax seed, banana, spinach and peanut butter. Add Ice. It looks gross since the chocolate and spinach make army green but tastes like chocolate. Yum.
@Shanaber Hope you get your heart answers soon.
@Avidkeo You run so much I am sure it will all balance out!
As for ice cream, did I mention that I literally ate the whole pint of Hagen Daz on mother's day. I really need to not have it in the house but it was my gift.
I made an appt with an endocrinologist for June. Gotta figure out how to preserve my skeleton before I become saw dust.
Exercise: I did a hard ride yesterday - HIIT and Hills - wore me out. Then a little core. Today, I walked for an hour and did a 20 min ride.
Food: Eggs, sourdough and grapefruit. Basically lunch since I am doing IF and don't eat until 11:30. Dinner will be on the fly since DD and I are going to take some graduation pics around the UT Austin Campus tonight. I will bring a protein shake and some carrots to work for a later pm snack.1 -
@avidkeo - 200 calories is nothing! It could have been so much more and I think you should congratulate yourself for keeping it all in check!
@elise4270 - I have heard that estrogen helps with the skin so maybe the pellets will help with that too? I have never taken any hormones either, mostly because of the breast and ovarian cancers that run in my family. I did have a patch once and it made me absolutely miserable (worse than I used to feel before my period) so I stopped using it. For lotion I use CeraVe at night for my entire body pretty much and Clinique during the day. For sunscreen I use SuperGoop for my face, neck and chest and Neutrogena everywhere else. Also I wear leggings and a nice top to my appointments, never jeans! So much more comfortable!
@ddmom0811 - I think most smoothies look gross especially if you put any greens in them. I like adding frozen berries and/or a frozen banana, coconut water and peanut butter with my greek yogurt. Usually I add in some protein powder too.
@bearly63 - I think it is so awesome that you are going to take pictures at UT! Have to make that graduation special somehow! How is your hip feeling with all the walking and riding?
Had my usual breakfast this morning, tuna I think for lunch and something from the freezer for dinner. Not sure what yet. I need to grocery shop again. We are just about out of milk, getting low on yogurt and most importantly completely out of lettuce and salad fixings. Sigh... don't really want to go. I disliked grocery shopping before all of this and dislike it even more now.
ETA - did my S&R class this morning and now getting to the strength training. So far so good on hitting it 3xWeek!
1 -
Supergoop sounds awesome! I tried the cerave and it makes my skin dry and on fire. I like Neutrogena... I have some stuff from the hospital that's pretty good, not irritating.
@quilteryoyo I don't know how you tolerate the hot flashes. I get warm flashes and dh is turning the temp up cuz he's cold.
Waiting at the skin clinic for my won't go away spot then I'm going to try to go walk. I still haven't done violin today, yet. Or studied. Ugh the school of nursing is leaving our courses open online so we can study through the summer. I mean, I planned on it. But now tell me to do 30 minutes a day? I dun wanna.1 -
@elise4270 - interesting about the CerAve. I wonder what is in it that causes your skin to react. The supergoop is expensive, at least I thought so when I bought it. But actually the can of sunscreen mousse has lasted me almost a year. I ordered the Sunscreen mist and the everyday sunscreen to replace it but haven't had to use them yet.1
-
Morning all.
@elise4270, very pretty bruise. Great mix of colours lol and yeah your DH doesn't get to complain! No idea on either the hormones or face cream. I have read they don't really do anything long term, it's just a temporary few hrs fix? I don't do anything at all apart from the occasional moisturiser and that's often hand cream!
@shanaber confession, at 9pm I was going downstairs to sleep cause I was on call and hubby was making a snack. That 200 turned into 1100... Someone described it once as completely losing all ability to stop until you hit some undetermined sweet spot. That's me. And even after all that my tummy was still trying to tell me it was empty!
So 1100 over goal, but I had shifted my goal back to 500 deficit, so when I look back, I'm still in deficit for the week. I mean that's only 600 over maintenance, and actually probably only 500 because I only got credit for exercise calories, and I was on my feet a lot - I really really miss my garmin! So not all is lost.
That said, scales were up 1.5lb. Lol. It's all water weight and will be off in the next couple of days. I know this. Because this is my normal routine. I had hoped to avoid it but maybe I should just embrace it and accept it? Anyway, 13k/8m run today, and 26k/16m run tomorrow so those calories will be needed! They say expect a bump in the scale when carb loading, so winning there!
Food today: yoghurt, muesli and coffee for break, feaux Pho beef for lunch (one of those pot noodles, surprisingly good)
Not sure about dinner, something light.1 -
@shanaber I think I might be able to useore products if I can get my face to heal. All the irritation is likely why. Soap even bothers my face. I was it with Cetaphil once a week.
@avidkeo I figure the lotion are all temporary. I was looking at noninvasive skin tightening procedures, even purchased one but covid happened, maybe I can get down there in a few weeks. Personally I think it's exercise related and less age. So I if I can ever get back at it!
Skin doc/pa
Removed my never healing seemingly ingrown hair. Will call Monday ish. She noted the freckle in my eye. It can be cancer. What? Said just make sure to ask about it on next eye exam, which is Monday. And Monday I should get a sx date for the leg. Ahhh, adulting.
Sorry for all the typos... Walking and typing...
My scale is still up... One day of good won't undo 2-10 months of no-nos. So I'm patient.2 -
@shanaber and @bearly63 - thanks for the smoothie tips! I've been in a rut lately with my old blender. Whenever I get to the grocery or order online I will buy more ingredients. Yeah, the smoothie looked disgusting, but it was so good. I guess I am going to need to buy extra spinach each week.
@bearly63 - very cool on the UT pictures!
@elise4270 - I'm embarrassed to even admit this but I use La Mer Creme! Yes, it's very expensive and maybe it isn't worth it but I've used it for 5 years and I love it. I can make the 2oz jar last 6-7 months. The sales lady I buy it from sends me tons of samples every time with my order so it's like getting another jar for free. And if I am traveling I just text her, "hey I'm traveling can you send me a sample" and she will pop 3 little jars in the mail. Each one can last weeks! But you have to use it the way the video says where you use very little. Once my DD was out of college I started this creme and a house cleaner!
@avidkeo - oh wow, we've all done that!
Nice 3 miles outside today. Tomorrow is a rest day. Repeat and hammer it in my head. Tomorrow is a rest day. Only one run mile for streak. I must rest!

hmm. @ddmom0811 I get it, cream you like and let someone else do the chores a little more often. I'll look at the cream. I have some la Therapie, we got on a cruise. I like it. Its rich creamy, what I'm looking for. It's heavily scented, which isn't so bad. Sometimes it makes my face itch- but I think everything does. I even have some that's tinted with zinc oxide to reduce the redness. I'll look at the La Mer, seems like it might be similar.
@shanaber I looked for the sunscreen and couldn't decide on which one to get and didn't see the mousse. I'll keep looking. I have some tinted stuff that I got from the dermatologist, skinceuticals ~4 years ago. It's ok other than it being tinted. The goop did seem expensive! But I'm down if it helps and I use it.
I'm making dh buy me lots of stuff. He claims I've been out all day spending money... uh... sort of.
A few of DH's spokes are broken on his front tyre, so I offered to run it by the bike shop. Man, I hate this store. I want all the bikes. Trying to support the LBS I ask about wall mounts for bike storage, hemhaw around and notice a bluetooth Zwift compatible trainer.... hmmm. ask Johnny about it.... hmmm... I'll talk to DH about it. Who said NO, then left to go get a new chainsaw and called me from the LBS that already closed. Haha! I said I'd think on it. Sounds like a good idea, but what if I don't use it, but rehabing it might motivate me to use it and no loading up and no traffic. BUTT my left sciatic nerve may not like it... I'm undecided. I just want the biggest plate of nachos and a nap.
Thanks for all the info!
OKay @ddmom0811 you should be embarrassed! wow! makes supergoop look free! ha! I'll spring for the 90$ half ounce.2 -
Well honestly the calories paid off! Today's run was so easy! I didn't feel tired or anything, just lovely! So actually it was worth it, if it makes the run that much better.
I am pretty sure strava overestimated my calories, it gave me 1050! I usually burn that doing 15km or more. So I reduced that to about 900 in MFP.
So will eat all the calories again today since I'm running 26 tomorrow. Then I have a cut back week, so can do 2 weeks and see what I lose that way.3 -
@Elise4270 Can you try the trainer in the store and see if it aggravates your sciatic nerve before you buy?
@Avidkeo Sounds like a great run! Hope the one tomorrow is just as easy!
1 -
@Avidkeo glad you found the sweet spot in fueling!
@quilteryoyo yes. I'm sure I can try the trainer out before hand. I might get on mine today, since it looks like rain and I can see if it's something I still wanna do.
Shoulder
My range of motion is worse. But he didn't push so far to make me cry so I feel like it's probably the same. Advised me to push on the home PT, and gave me another steroid shot and added some to the ligaments that are also inflamed. Ouch. We had a wonderful side conversation regarding my leg/hip. He was impressed. Also felt that I probably was destined for a hip replacement. And surgical nursing was ambitious with my chronic ailments. Haha! Ya, I kno.
Food
No plans, but I have lots of veggies and need to figure something out.
I finished yesterday well under and will probably have rebound hunger today.
Face/ hormones
Woke up, had coffee and no face itching or whelts! Yay. Although I did put lotion on twice yesterday and again with Benadryl this morning after a mosquito bit my face.
Scale
Still running errands/ spending money. But I feel like any day now it's going to move downward. I am in lazy pants so it's easy to feel like I'm not sausaging.
Tell me what we're eating today!2 -
I had my normal breakfast - egg, cheese, and one piece of toast. I mowed my lawn and then felt like I had some energy left, so decided to go for a short, easy run. Mowed for nearly 2 hours and ran 2.25 miles in 32 minutes. Burned a total of 818 calories. Drank a Gatorade slushy to cool down. (I put the Gatorade in the freezer as I start to mow. By the time I'm done, it's usually not frozen solid, but just slushy. It's the only way to have Gatorade!) I had a bean burrito and a banana for dinner. Still have over 1200 calories I can eat. I'll probably consume around 500 more before going to bed...almonds, cheese...
@Elise4270 I'm sorry the shoulder is still giving you so much pain. You are a real trouper.2 -
Eating today... a pop tart and half a banana before my run then a berry, banana smoothie and cranberry-orange '2-Bite' scone when I got home. So far that's it. Don't know what dinner holds yet. I am thinking BBQ chicken tomorrow or Sunday night though.
I'm tired today. I did run sort of. Went out, didn't feel great, went home because I forgot my mask. While there our grocery order was delivered so I put things away and then headed out again. Forgot my mask again and didn't bother to go back again for it. I figured I was just going to end up walking but I headed to the trail and was amazed that it wasn't busier. I did do some running but found I needed to stop and sit a few times.
Now I am just tired, exhausted into my bones.
Called the doctors office to see about next steps, do I need to make an appointment or what. Got the 'service' the office is closed and they aren't in today. Guess it will wait until Monday.
On the bright side my weight has stayed under 150 now for over a week! Going to take measurements again on Monday.
@elise4270 - hope the shots help your shoulder and then you can sleep better and adult more!
@avidkeo - hope your 26k run today is as good as the 13k run!2 -
Thanks all. I'm taking the turmeric/curamen now since he wanted me on an anti-inflammatory.
Scale update.
It is up another pound. 3 days of exercise and eating better and it's not even linear.
Food
Leftover butternut squash with pecans, cranberries, sauteed onion and garlic, salt pepper, parsley, and a pinch of cayanne. I added a can of chicken and served it on butter lettuce. And cooked roasted red potatoes with gruyere and parmesan. See? Better. Stupid scale.0 -
@shanaber Sorry you have to wait until Monday to find out the next step. Waiting is so hard. Great job on your weight!!!0
-
@quilteryoyo - thanks! I just have to be patient and hope I don't have to wait another week for an appointment visual or otherwise.
@Elise4270 - that dinner sounds delicious! You know you will see a drop, I suspect all the exercise is creating more water retention and inflammation.
I have a good turmeric supplement that I get on Amazon. Let me know if you want it and I will post the link.1 -
Somehow she knows this is for her 🤣

Sure! We a have some generic and a brand I can't remember, in a yellow and green box.0 -
Thanks guys, run today went great definitely well fueled.
Took the girls out for a special lunch at out favourite cafe. So good. Now I'm incredibly full and have no interest in food at all.
Probably good after I went 500 calories over again yesterday. But that's OK. I'll be good for the next 2 weeks and will see a drop.3 -

She looks like shes being patient. You'll have to share some in action photos! She is beautiful BTW.

I finished yesterday happy with my calories. I ate so much for dinner, the potatoes and threw a dollop of ricotta on them. Sure I logged everything fairly accurately and was only at 1100 for the day. Sure better than 2000-2500 daily and livin' slug life. DH offered to take me out for Mexican food and a margarita and I declined because I didn't have the calories for it and know it would break my 3 day streak of doing better.
scale
I haven't tested the scale yet today. But I am holding out that it will move my way sooner or later. And if not then I can talk to my pcp about it.
Trainer
LBS phoned that DH's bike tyre was ready. Told him I was headed to get it and he asked if i was getting the trainer. I rode mine yesterday, put on music and really enjoyed my ride, legs were even sore. I know the added energy, and improved mood is the hormone replacement. I didn't watch the time waiting for my 30 minutes to be up and went by when a song was over. I decided that the added virtual integration wouldn't afford any benefits. The time with music was fun and I tried to discern the melody as written music. Part of my violin homework is to train my ear, so I called it study time too. Dh said if I change my mind, they'll be available. So we are putting energy into transitioning the cat office to a people office. Dh thinks that he maybe going to a few days working at home, when the time comes.
Food
coffee.
The plan is to pick through Matt Fitzgerald's Racing Weight and find something we have all the fixin's for.
aches and pains.
same. Shoulder doc thought there was a chance the shot wouldn't be as effective this time. So far hes right, but I does take the steroid a few days to kick in. I have a bit of a headache and feel warm. Probably allergies, or covid from all the running around.
exercise
bike perhaps, seems overcast today. Or cat office work. Dh is looking to get a new desk from sam's two hours away... oh rain... well not today he isn't. Or I may call it a rest day.
I still need a nap. and its not even 8am.
ETA thanks @shanaber I ordered it!2
