This makes me angry too. I don't know how you do what you do, but I am glad you do. I hate seeing animals hurt and in pain0 -

Oh Dean that makes me so sick and so angry too. One of colleagues told me today at our meeting that three weeks ago their dog laid down out of the sun under the back wheel of her husband's truck. Yep...he back up over it and killed it. I cried when she told me.0 -
@Dave: I am worried about you. Keeping you in my prayers that things start turning around.
@vhuber: Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Still waiting for a killing frost here. It's coming.
On a good note. My pup is home from the specialty hospital after surgery yesterday. He is doing well despite such a difficult procedure. Now on to healing and hopefully buying him some time to be with us a little longer.
Oct. 27: Adding 12 miles today of walking and vacuuming leaves for several hours with my lawn vac.
TTD: 318 miles

We've seen that a few times this fall. A warm day and the old animals sleep so sound, they don't wake up to the sound of the truck or car starting. It's devastating to the owners.0 -

I'm glad to hear he is home and doing well. Those surgeries don't always go the way you want. Enjoy what time you have.0 -

Congrats on hitting GOAL go to @LEANZ, @SUFFERLANDRIAN, @WANDERAN, @LOVEMYALEX and @WILLNEVERGIVEUP!! :drinker: :drinker:
@VHUBER - Here in the SE corner of the Twin Cities we didn't get enough to stick around very long at all. But up around Duluth / Lake Superior they got 10.6" which was a one-day record for October. As much as i love snow and winter, I'm SO not ready for it yet!
@CLEPANT - I hope your furbaby is recovering uneventfully and restfully.
@WILLNEVERGIVEUP - Beautiful picture of the campus and thats wonderful...congratulations on your pending retirement! I look forward to that day more and more all of the time!
I sure hope I didn't miss updating anyone or forget to call you out for GOAL! I didn't get around to updating yesterday so there was quite a bit and I didn't want to leave it all for Janet. I had another rough night sleeping last night, but am doing a little* better now during the day. It was so hot in here last night. I had to turn the thermostat down and crack a window. I was up coughing on and off from 3am-6am and putting a hot/wet compress on my eyes because they were glued shut, but managed to sleep pretty hard from 6-11am. I get it about the antibiotics being for a bacterial infection and what I have is all viral but it just doesn't feel like enough what I'm doing. Today is day #7 and I'm whipped. The steroids are helping noticeably during the day.

@NeverGivesUp - what a beautiful image. You’re so lucky to have worked in such a lovely spot. I hope you enjoy retirement as much as I do .... it didn’t take long to wonder where I ever found time to work.
@Dave - take care and be kind to yourself whilst you recover.
@sufferlandrian - that is so sad. I am grateful that in fact your job is generally about healing and improving life chances for so many animals.

@Nevergiveup: congrats on your retirement. I hope you have lots of lovely plans. Your photo is beautiful. We are not getting a good leaf coloring this year due to our whacky weather.
@Dave: Have you tried a cool mist humidifier while you sleep. They have helped me sleep better when I have some congestion or bronchitis.
@Dean: My pup is doing remarkably well. We were prepared for the worst as the lymph node was close to the aortic artery branch. Of all my dogs, and there have been many, he has seemed to be doing the best of any of them. Resting comfortably, eating and drinking well, and very alert.
On sad note, a gal I met through my trail running club lost both her parents yesterday as they made a left turn in their car to cross a highway. They were hit by an on coming truck and killed at the scene. As she said, love those close to you and let them know it because you just never know.
Oct. 28: On dog watch today so not that many miles. Adding 7.

This is terribly upsetting both to me and for you. There are people in this world that do not deserve to have the trust and unconditional love that a pet (dog or cat) give their humans. To some a dog or cat are a disposable item, not a member of the family that needs to be cared for. 'Oh just let 'em out unsupervised, it will come back', well this one won't be. Dean I send hugs to you for the wonderful job you do as a caring and compassionate Vet.0 -

I think I have what Dave has ... head cold and bronchitis. Not getting any miles in. Hoping I feel better soon.

I never cease to be amazed at how the will of a spirit can overcome the weakness of our bodies; pets that live on with the sole purpose of trying to please the owners and make them happy. However, without fail there comes a time when even the strongest of us can't overcome the ravages of time or disease. I'm so sorry for the owners that lose a pet to the ravages of time. At the same time, I'm grateful for the relief the animal receives when the spirit finally submits and allows the body to enter the rest of those whos essence has passed on to another plane of existence.1
