@kar328 - that is very long time to be on permanent night shift, it must have messed with your body clock and rhythms. Enjoy your last shift, and as Dave said, you’ve well and truly paid your dues.
@Dave - a huge PS campaign has just started here emphasising the importance of NOT having antibiotics ...
This is the thing that really tickled me as I ran (a stock photo) - it’s a tram ... and it lifted our spirits each time it passed,,

Hang in everyone. Sounds like so many of us are having some rough times. Tomorrow morning we consult with a surgeon about her sweet pup.
@Kar: All the best on your last shift. I am happy that this change will be better for you both mentally and physically. I am just happy to be getting out. I keep looking the countdown clock on my desk that my hubby gave me. 229 days and counting.1 -
Hi everyone.. I missed most all of October but looking forward to joining you all in November!0

@K80FLEC - I get that the doctors are trying to correct their over-prescription of antibiotics in years past, but I feel like they should grandfather me in. My body has needed them enough times before that, odds are, it will again. This stuff doesn't go away in my case. It lingers for 2 months if left unmedicated. But I guess I'll have to try one more time...
I'm still out sick today. Heading to the gym to hit the steam room and hot tub only. Try to loosen this stuff up some more. I'm going to be close on getting my last miles this month. I'll have to hit the bike and do some slow miles in a day or two.

@Dave - antibiotics don't help bronchitis, they're for bacterial infections and bronchitis is viral. The problem, especially in this country with them being over prescribed is they don't cure the original infection and they lead to superinfections which are too powerful for current medications. People can die or become incredibly sick because there are limited medications at this time.
And no, I won't be too bored. I wouldn't mind less excitement and stress. I'll miss a good "stork code" where someone is about to deliver not on the unit and we have to go get her, or someone who is trying to deliver at the front desk, but not the rest of it. I officially clocked out at 07:21AM and it was magnificent The shift wasn't bad, I got hugged more than I'd like to be and one of the two coworkers I'd like to continue a friendship with started crying But that chapter is now thankfully over.
@k80flec thanks. I've been talking to a lot of people who do ambulatory care, especially ones who made the change from night to day and hear only good things.
@clepant 229 days, good for you. I still have a few more years, but plan to do part time down the road, and not necessarily in health care (think Target, a bookstore ...)
Will try to get some mileage tomorrow. HIIT class in the morning always gets some.

Two days off my phenytoin and finally I feel better and actually am thinking clearer. First night I finally felt like eating and no nausea. I will be on a lower dose again.
Our surgerical consult with our pup this morning ended with an opening for surgery this afternoon. My sweet pup ended up with two surgeries. The lymph node in the stomach was very risky. But the surgeon gave us some positive feelings that we may buy him some time even though this is incurable. I love that she got down on the floor and sat and petted him all the while she talked to us. Now it's getting through the next few weeks of healing.
@Kar: I am so happy for you. Closing one chapter is hard. Leaving people we enjoy working with is hard but now you will come to make some new connections.
I will never officially retire either. have lots on my bucket list plus I want to give back. I would love to work with training some shelter dogs to help them with their chance of getting adopted. Lots of volunteer work...so many choices so little time.
@anaconda469: You can do this...one day at a time.
@Dave: Have to concur with others on the antibiotics. They are used so much and so incorrectly. I listen to people who come to work and are constantly telling me they are on an antibiotic. No wonder our arsenal of infection fighters are running out and we are getting more super bugs. I still hope you feel better soon.
Oct. 26: Adding 11 miles today. Did lots of walking and managed a very slow two mile run to test the waters.
TTD: 306 miles

As for me, still coughing my lungs out. As sore as my abs are getting from it, maybe it's doing a little good too! I'm still home from work today (day #3), but I might have to go at least make an appearance tomorrow for a couple of hours. I just have to keep taking it easy. The doc wouldn't give me antibiotics (yet), but she gave me steroids and told me to keep taking the over the counter stuff as long as it seems to be working. And to drink water like it's my full-time job. lol
Dave
Why would she give you a steroid and not an antibiotic? Steroids may reduce inflammation but so will Ibuprofen. Steroids suppress your immune system and make it harder for you to keep infections at bay. I know there are a lot of people that will tell you to avoid antibiotics and I tend to agree with that; that doesn't mean you should avoid them if someone is suppressing your immune system. I know you don't have a tail so human medicine could be different, but it seems like a steroid is going to make breathing easier, but it will make the bronchitis hang on longer.1 -
@darkrider42 Hope you have turned the corner

Had a bad one tonight. Someone let their dog out unsupervised at night and it was hit by a train. Three of the four limbs were sheared off between the wrist/ankle and elbow/knee. The dog was still alive but in shock. We had to euthanize. No tag; no microchip. Someone thinks their dog is just out roaming and wont even know until later that it's dead. Makes me angry.0
