MAY 2018 CHALLENGE

Hi everyone! I'll be back for May which will be my second month of Keto, and so far it's been really great! I learn something new everyday, and my progress has kept me motivated. I
don't comment very often, but I do love how this group is so supportive of each other and I enjoy being part of a keto community and am learning so much from everyone!
May will be challenging for me since my son is graduating from HS, my mom is having a serious operation and I'll be living in a hotel for two weeks due to work. I will
have to figure out my eats and I'll be transporting my scale and bike with me. I am not going to set goals or restrictions this month other than try to continue to eat keto/low carb.
That’s a lot to have going on all at once! Best of luck to you.Just an FYI, my profile photo is me at Epcot wearing a shirt I bought from Italy***. That's how much time we spend at Disney. We have annual passes and my wife is a huge fan. I once told her how much more we could have, if we invested the cost of the passes (instead of going to Disney), she told me that I could continue to be married OR have that extra money. It wasn't going to be both.
***Bonus points if you can find that location and get a photo of where I was standing. LOL
Lol, that sounds like a conversation that would happen at our house, but the thing we spend waaaay too much on is soccer. The youngest two kids play on competitive club teams, we have season tickets for 2 different teams (our local USL team in the summer and our arena team in the winter) and attend most Sporting KC games and all the games our local semi-pro futsal team play. We regularly feed a bunch of the arena team’s players in the winter and most of our traveling is to one or another of our teams’ away games. I guess that means my comment about crowds isn’t exactly accurate...more like we avoid big crowds except at soccer matches.
I’ll do my best to get a matching pic - I love a good challenge!2 -

What she said !!!!! I think that is such a smart approach, especially after you've been on keto 3 months, you're fat adapted and your weight loss has probably tappered off. I'm with you. I hope to be better at keto and remain in ketosis this month as well.
Like you my nonscale victories (NSV) have been off the charts and other people have taken notice. No weigh goals for me this month either. However, I still weigh myself daily and I love cream cheese too.

I actually hate and love weighing myself weekly. I hate it, because I know I get too focused on just the number on the scale. But I also love it because it satisfies my curiosity and cheers me on to see the number going down.
But the NSVs are what I'd like to focus on more, especially now that I am fat adapted. My clothes do not fit me right any more. My jeans, for example, weren't tight or anything, but they fit comfortably. Now, I have to hold them as I walk up and down the stairs, otherwise they slide right off! (Yes, I know I should wear a belt, but I've never liked them. They've always hurt my overhang )1 -
@xDaniDragonflyx I bet that overhang is on it's way/weigh out! Welcome to the world of belts!1

Goodness I hope so! But I dunno, belts are so constricting!0 -
SOOOOOOOOOO what's our challenge for the month of May??? Come back every weigh-in and report at least 1 NSVs? I do believe keeping an account of those victories helps when we are going through a tough day/week/month.6

Been missing you all! Have had a not so great April, my dad passed away on 4/9. Dealt with the funeral last week, ate pasta salad! Yikes! Gained a little bit over the past week I managed to get going in the right direction again.
Have to make the next few weeks seriously count!! My birthday is on the 9th and my daughters and I are going to Hawaii on May 19!!! So excited!
Actually tried on a swimming suit for the first time in 5 years.
I’ll weigh before we leave and then not ‘till we get back. I’m going to try and be mostly good but hey it’s vacation right?!
Here’s to May!

By my calculations it looks like you have close to 60 lbs in the bank from your starting point. I'd say you deserve to relax a bit in the sun and surf. Enjoy yourself!!! May will be a better month.2 -

I'm in! Just started doing Keto this weekend, though I've been decreasing carbs and generally planning/researching for about two weeks. I know it's just day one for me, but I passed on my mom's chocolate chip cookies when I visited her today, and old me would never have passed up dessert. Also went for a walk this evening, the weather was perfect. As you can tell, I'm feeling pretty great! Looking forward to giving and receiving awesome support in this group. Will add myself to that spreadsheet. Yay!

Hi - I am excited to start Keto and would like to join your group. My first goal is to get under 200 lbs and my next goal is to get to a goal weight of 175 lbs. I don't think this way of low-carb eating will be a problem for me since I already don't indulge in Rice, Potatoes, Pasta or bread, it's the other unhealthy snacks I preference like potato chips, pop-corn, cookies and fried foods. I've been eating mostly meat and a small amount of veggies, but still cant't seem to lose weight. I hope this will be the break through my body needs to take off much needed pounds.
I need help entering myself on the spreadsheet

@Lisbydezign
I'm sorry to hear of your loss. (hugs)
Happy Early Birthday.
Just think of this - having a reasonably indulgent holiday (while seeing and doing all the things = lots of movement!) is why you've fought so hard lately. Life happens. Just don't let it set you back months. Restore your soul - that allows the body to do it's thing later, because no one can keep going forever on an empty tank!1 -

I've only been doing the keto diet for about 6 weeks now and I've lost almost 15 pounds. I also lost a total of 4 inches in April - so I'm excited! My personal goal for May is to break the 200 mark! On a personal note, my birthday is May 2 so I'm going to try very HARD not to over indulge and stick to my plan!

Gosh, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. My mom went into the hospital 1 year ago today, and died 5 days later. It's so hard to lose a parent...... you and your family will be in my prayers.3 -

Started Keto only 5 weeks ago and have lost 7 lbs. It's nice having a slow, consistent loss. I used to always want fast, dramatic results, like 20 lbs in 2 weeks, but am realizing that's neither good (or possible) for my body nor my psyche. I'm enjoying this process, especially reading all your posts.
Here's to a stronger, healthier May! Good luck and happy keto-ing all!5 -

Checking in for the first time in MAY. Here’s my 1st NSV for May Nikki. I the food I get to eat on keto. This an example: Fluffy cheese souffle omelet and ribeye steak. How can you not thrive on food like that?

Now THAT is food worth eating!!! YYYYAAAASSSSSS!!!3 -
I would love to join this challenge. I started keto last May 22 and lost a total of 25.4 pounds (from 167 to 141.6) by November 17. Well, life happened... My youngest daughter's best friend (whose parents we are also very close to) was hit by a car and suffered a traumatic brain injury. She was in the hospital for five weeks and we spent a great deal of time traveling (driving 45-60 minutes one way, 4-5 times each week) back and forth to the hospital during those five weeks so food was whatever we could grab on the go without much thought...often from a vending machine. I also battle depression and anxiety and I am an emotional eater, so here we are five and a half months later and I am up 10 pounds.
I tried to add myself to the worksheet, but it doesn't give me an option to insert a column. Can @NikkiJRM help me with that?

@eggfooyamyam that made me chuckle.
Here's my NSV for today. As I'm putting on some body lotion I thought to myself, "Gee, this stuff will last longer with less surface area to cover!". Yyeeeessssssss!!6 -
My NSV for today: my husband was cuddling me and said that my over hang doesn't hang over any more! At least not when laying down. ;^_^4
-
@NikkiJRM & @xDaniDragonflyx Less of everything, overhang and lotion - woot woot!! I'll have less to shave! Or will my leg hair just get more compact? Hmm....2
