Maryanne--Thank you for the info. The vet that worked with Midnight was new to the practice but that doesn't mean she didn't do her best. The vet today is the owner and one I have had the most interaction with. She was on some volunteer mission when I last had Midnight to the practice.
Good luck at the ophthalmologist.0 -
Still hoping for the best for you and Midnight!
Good news - so far, the shingles is not in my eye.0 -
I finally made it from the Raleigh Durham airport to Newark this morning after spending a very long and uncomfortable night in the airport. We were booked on a direct flight that was supposed to leave RDU at 8:00 last night and would have gotten us here around 10:00. Instead, we kept being told the flight was delayed due to weather issues in the northeast. They finally boarded everyone after a 2 hour delay, then held us on the plane another 2 hours. They finally told us could deplane and walk around or use the bathroom, and they hoped to be have an updated departure time around midnight, however just as we reached the boarding area, the announcement was made that the flight was cancelled. It was a little after midnight by then and the laborious process of rebooking everyone began. Luckily, while I stood in line for that and my sister reboarded the plane to collect our things, I received a text message with our new flight info. We were booked on a flight out of RDU to Atlanta leaving at 6:30 am, then connecting to another flight, finally arriving in Newark a little after 11 am. After reclaiming our luggage, my sister and I spent the night in an area of the airport by the bag check area since we could not check our bags until this morning. We are both exhausted, and heading for bed now. The sun isn’t down yet, but I don’t think either of us will care!0
-
Pam--What a horror story! I have no doubt that you are exhausted!0

Maryanne, I’m so sorry to hear about the Shingles. It’s a really nasty disease. Here’s hoping it doesn’t get into your eye. How did you break your wrist?0
-
Jean, I hope the vet figures out what’s wrong with Midnight and cures whatever ails him. Has he been sick for long or is it recent?0
-
Pam - what a PITA!
Helene - I broke my wrist a year ago in May. We had workmen coming and I was working on sequestering the cats. Had some upstairs behind a closed door. Was carrying Sammy upstairs. Saw someone trying to dart out. Tried to stop them. Ended up falling forward into the doorway catching myself on my left wrist. Crack. We know now that because of my at time time un-diagnosed hypertension my hand swelled up badly and made PT much more difficult than it otherwise would have been.0 -
I was going to play with the Cheeky Hamster a little and then sell it at the next show. Hah! DH is in love. That thing is going nowhere soon. LOL!0

Oh, this is IRONY:
President Donald Trump’s attorneys have vowed to appeal Monday’s decision in favor of a House committee seeking his financial records, but people on Twitter were thrilled about where the case will end up.
“We will be filing a timely notice of appeal to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals,” Trump attorney Jay Sekulow told Politico.
The current chief judge there is Merrick Garland, who President Barack Obama nominated to the Supreme Court in 2016 after Associate Justice Antonin Scalia died.

What goes around comes around. Pam, the beginning of your trip sounds like a nightmare. We’re checking out of our hotel in a few minutes to start the drive to NJ. We plan a stop up the road at a factory outlet. There’s a Clark outlet there according to the website. My sandals are looking pretty worn from so much wear. I need a couple of new pairs.0

The Raleigh airport slumber party was actually the middle of our trip. We flew to Raleigh last Thursday to spend 3 days with our cousins before flying up to New York. We enjoyed our visit there a lot. You might recall that I shared about my cousin who was diagnosed with a 6 centimeter brain tumor on Christmas Day last year. It was surgically removed the next day and he underwent radiation therapy, then was immediately started on infusion treatments with Keytruda every 3 weeks. Friday happened to be one of his treatment days, so we went with them to Duke University Medical Center. What a beautiful campus and hospital! We were very impressed by everything we saw there, including one of his doctors we were able to meet. After his treatment was done we walked over and toured the Duke University Chapel, which was very beautiful.
Yesterday was a very full day! After sleeping like the dead all night we woke feeling much more human. We went into the city with my niece and had a lovely tea party at a restaurant called Alice’s Tea Cup. My sister is a big fan of tea parties, so this was a late birthday gift from her daughter. The food was excellent and the atmosphere very fun. It’s a very popular restaurant, so reservations are a must, should you ever be in the city and want to go. After that we walked a couple of blocks to Central Park and spent a couple of hours strolling through it and people watching, then mnade our way to a Novotel hotel bar where we each enjoyed a glass of wine or cocktail while sitting outside above the crowds for more people watching.
We then went over to my niece’s theater and she gave us a very detailed backstage tour, introducing us to many of her co workers, all of whole were extremely gracious and complimentary of the great job she does working with them. It was fascinating to see how much work goes into making every performance as perfect as they can make them, and how much attention to detail that requires. We met the hairdresser who makes the wigs for all of the performers by hand, and then maintains them after every performance. He showed us a little of the process of hand making wigs for each performer and understudy. Each performer has multiple wigs because they need to have back ups in case anything unexpected happens. The highlight of the backstage tour was getting to meet the star — a 20 foot tall gorilla named King Kong! His “handlers” were doing some maintenance work on him, so he was on stage instead of up in the rafters where he normally hangs out. We got our pictures made with him.
After that we briefly met up with my niece’s husband while my niece went off to work. Daniel made sure we got safely to a restaurant for dinner and knew how to get back to his theater, then he left us to report to work. After a dinner of pizza and salad, we made our way to his theater and saw King Lear, starring Glenda Jackson. She was incredible! I’m not a fan of Shakespearean dramas and was not familiar with the story, but could appreciate the fine acting performance she and the other actors gave. It’s a very long show and I can’t imagine the stamina it requires of her, a woman in her 80’s! After the show we met Daniel and he got us to the bus that brought us back to their apartment. We talked for a few minutes then fell into bed.
Today all 4 of us will go into the city for an early lunch, then my sister and I will see a matinee performance of Oklahoma while my niece and her husband are working the matinee performances of their shows. We will meet my niece for dinner, then my sister and I will attend the performance of King Kong, The Musical. Tomorrow we head home, assuming that there are no flight issues this time. Luckily, if there were any problems this time, the airport is much closer so we could come back here more easily than we could have in Raleigh. It’s been a great trip, but I’m tired and ready to go home!

The rest of your trip sounds fantastic. My niece went to Duke and my sister lived in Durham. It’s a beautiful campus. The grounds are like a botanical garden. We visited the area frequently until she moved to Myrtle Beach.
Kelly and Ryan were doing Broadway week last week and one of the guests was the female star of Kong. She has a gorgeous voice. They showed a backstage segment and we could see Kong close up as well as how they move him onstage. You might be able to find that segment online. After seeing the show, you’d probably enjoy that interview.
I hope your travels home are smooth and safe,0 -

Pam - absent the airport slumber party, that sounds like one heck of a trip!0
-
Pam--Except for the airport hiccup, the trip sounds fabulous.
Helene--Hope you find your Clarks sandals and also a safe trip.
The vet called me this afternoon and discussed Midnight in a 20 minute call. There are some things she wants done with the Vitamin 12 a last resort. That test has to be sent out.0 -

Oklahoma was amazing! One of the best productions I’ve ever seen. Many of their cast were nominated for Tony’s and deservedly so. We are waiting now for our date with the big gorilla after a delicious pasta dinner. I’ve walked so much over the past few days I’m not even worrying about the calories!0

Not only did I find my Clark sandals, but they were buy one, get the second pair for $20. The first pair was the same shoe I was wearing but in a different color (black). The second pair is a navy blue. I told the clerk I was thrilled to find the same style 2 years later. He said it’s one of there best sellers and will probably be around for years to come.
Jean, I hope the vet has good news for you about the B 12.0 -
Jean, I’m so sorry that Midnight is ill. I hope the vet can get a handle on it and figure out how to help him quickly.
King Kong was amazing tonight! The female lead has been sick and only was able to do the first act, then her understudy went on for the second act. She was equally good in my non-professional opinion. My niece had warned us that the star might not be there at all, and told us about the scramble it creates when an understudy has to go on mid show. It was all seamless for the audience, but for the wardrobe crew it was chaos during the intermission. So interesting to learn about the behind the scenes activity. After the show the wardrobe director saw us standing near the stage door waiting for my niece and invited us backstage, so we got to meet a few of the performers, including the understudy who had performed.
It’s been a great trip, but I’m definitely ready to head home tomorrow.0 -
