Maryanne--Love the "cat commands and obediences."
The bladder and kidney cancer check went well. I've been "promoted" to having that scope done once a year instead of two times.
We have a 90%% chance of rain today. Getting tired of the rain. At least the tornadoes dodged us.0 -
Jean, that’s great news! Only having the procedure once a year is a huge step!0

The avocado frig (we had one until maybe 10 years ago):

Interesting headline in today's Baltimore Sun:
The future of work: Being a cashier is Maryland's most common occupation, but it's vanishing.0 -
That was an interesting story about the 70s kitchen. Did you buy the avocado frig or did it come with your house? We got married in 1972 and purchased a white side by side refrigerator. I loved the look of it. It slid into a cabinet that hid the side and their was a cabinet over top. We chose the same refrigerator in a cabinet at the Cape. I admit we bought it strictly for looks. The capacity of each side was less than ideal. And when it was on it's last legs,it was a nightmare to replace. Newer refrigerators are taller and wouldn't fit the cabinet. We looked for a couple of years,on and off. When it finally died. an appliance company found one replacement that would fit. We ordered it sight unseen. It's a stainless steel French door with the freezer drawer on the bottom. I love it. I finally have decent freezer capacity. I considered a stand alone freezer until I realized you have to defrost them . I've been spoiled by frost free so I'm not about to buy anything that needs manual defrosting.0

Jean, excellent news about your medical tests. You must be thrilled to be stable and only need checking once a year.0

We brought the avocado frig with us when we moved into this house, which already had a harvest gold stove. Both lived for years and years so it was a strange, colorful kitchen! LOL!
We now buy everything white.
Our standalone freezer doesn't need defrosting.0 -
What's the brand of your freezer? We were looking at the big box stores and everything needed manual defrost. We need to replace our washer dryer and plan to shop at a local appliance store. I could ask about a freezer. Lack of freezer space is why I never order NS frozen plan.0

Our freezer is a Fridgidaire "ultrafreeze". It's almost exactly the same height as the refrigerator it sits next to in the basement (which has a freezer section on top; we also have a side by side in the kitchen and another small refrigerator in another section of the basement - you'd think a family of 12 lived here).
Found these on google (neither the same as ours but "frost free" which is what I think you'd be looking for):

I notice that at the top of the page of that second link there are a bunch of other "frost free" options pictured.0 -

Maryanne--Midnight is a 3am cat also. Is that something they have in common?0
-
Knock on wood, we don't currently have any "3 am cats". We don't even have any that stand over me while I dish out breakfasts. This current crew is very laid back.0

See you later, alligator 🐊 A scaly 11-foot-long gator broke into a Clearwater home overnight through some low windows in their kitchen. Clearwater Police officers and a trapper responded to the scene to capture and remove the gator. There were no injuries.

A 15+ ft. python escaped from a truck near Morgantown, WV. The last I heard it was still slithering around somewhere.
We are actually having sunshine today, but rumors exist of late evening thunderstorms.
30 minutes of exercise or 10,000 steps or both?

Our FL home is raised on pilings because we are on an island. So unless gators can climb steps, we’ll be okay. But we know they are out there. The only thing waking me at 3 am is a trip to the bathroom. I vaguely remember when I could sleep through the night without waking up before morning. At least I can fall back to sleep.0

Pythons, gators, scary!!!!0

Well, another cat show in the books!
Yesterday morning was a little frantic. The volunteer who usually opens up Sunday morning, partly because she wants a close handicapped spot, and who also drives one of the two vans we use to transport our inventory, got in her van and was met with a check engine light. So while she waited for the car place to open I made frantic phone calls in case we needed to assemble several cars to take our inventory from the show hall (in addition to my van). If we'd gotten desperate I'd have rented a vehicle but it didn't come to that. Turns out a field mouse chewed through a spark plug wire (not the first time) and she made it to the show late morning.
In 3 weeks the Southern Regional CFA show is here in Baltimore so by the end of the month we'll be pretty tired!0 -
Maybe you’ll be out of stuff to sell after the second show.0

Maryanne--You do so much on benefit of cats. Where do you get your energy?

Since April 22 I've lost 7 pounds. I have 8 1/2 more to go to where the cardiologist wants me in mid September. I've suddenly started to think "wouldn't it be cool to surprise her with more". I better not get cocky here.
I'm almost done clearing out and organizing my diet food stash. Having packet day today. Immediately ordered something different for lunch as I do NOT like the wonderslim "lite entree" chili. Not even with FF cheddar on top (which sort of kills the whole idea).
Think I'll have frozen JC tomorrow. I probably only have two days' worth of that left in the freezer. Came from the samplers they used to sell (no more).0 -
Seven pounds in 2 months is great! Sounds like you will be able to at least get to where your cardiologist wants you, and anything else will just be a nice bonus. How is/are the shingles? You haven’t mentioned it in awhile, so I’m hoping that means it’s mostly gone by now.
This week I’m prepping to make carrot cake cupcakes for a surprise birthday brunch I’m attending on Saturday. I also have a cousin who is having knee replacement surgery Wednesday that I will visit, but the hospital is a good 45 minutes or more away and the weather forecast is showing rain that day. This time of year, rain can also mean thunderstorms, with possible hail and/or tornadoes, so not the best day to be venturing far from the garage. And another friend had a hysterectomy last Wednesday and she is having a hard time. I had planned to take her a loaf of lemon blueberry bread I had made for her yesterday, but she was readmitted to the hospital Saturday night due to a blood clot in her lung. She’s back home now, so maybe I can deliver it tomorrow. Right now it is in the freezer.
I made some decorations for the cupcakes yesterday and shredded and froze the carrots today. Tomorrow I can toast and chop the walnuts and get them ready, so when I’m ready to bake on Friday I’ll have as much of the prep work done as I can do ahead of time. It really helps me if I can spread out the workload so that I’m not on my feet as long. I seem to end up with severe pain in my toes on my left foot if I stand for long periods of time, even in good supportive shoes.0 -
Maryanne--Congrats upon the weight loss!!
Pam--I love carrot cake. Did you have to mention it?
I'm doing decent with my exercize. I had some off days last week because of the medical appointments, but yesterday I got in over 10,000 steps and today over 11,000 steps.0 -
7 pounds is great. Wouldn’t it be lovely if you could surprise him by surpassing his number.
Did I mention DH and I lost our primary care doctor? She left the practice while we were in FL. We got a voice mail telling us to call to choose a new doctor. I didn’t get around to it until they so they assigned us to a doctor. It’s actually the one I was planning to pick. I was scheduled for a physical mid-July. The doctor is booking physicals in November so I’ll see the PA instead at the end of July. I’m going to try very hard to lose 10 pounds before that because I don’t want him to say I have high BP. I have white coat syndrome so I often get higher than normal readings because of that. I think if I can lose some weight before then, I lower the chance of looking high. I have 8 weeks so it’s possible if I practice what I learned on NS. Here’s hoping. DH got a June appointment because it’s just a medication review and he’s out of refills.
I briefly considered calling the old doctor. She’s gone with a practice an hour away. I could do that but if I needed a hospital, I’d have to go to Boston instead of our Cape hospitals. The new guy will be my third doctor in this practice in about 4 years. I liked the first two so that may be my experience with him.0
