I called the podiatrist’s office for an appointment, thinking it would probably be a couple of weeks or more before they would be able to see me. Imagine my surprise when they offered me an appointment for this afternoon! I have a dental appointment in a few minutes, then I’ll see the podiatrist this afternoon. I still haven’t been notified that my prescription from yesterday is ready, so I will need to follow up on that later as well. Busy day, for me!0

I just lost a long post. I was saying on of my therapists suggested I raise my knee as if marching while still sitting. Then extend my leg out straight. Then bring the leg back into that March move and lower my foot to the floor. I haven’t done it consistently but it’s worth giving it a try. The object is to keep my leg from locking up when I stand and try to take those first few steps. Like you, my problem is muscular rather than the knee joint itself. It’s where the hamstring muscle attaches to the back of the knee.
Any improvement in your finger?0 -
Pam--Great news on gettng the podiatrist appointment so quickly. You do have a busy day with the appointments.
Helene--The finger appears to be better; I have my regular appointment tomorrow with my primary to go over test results which I already know thanks to the Portal and to enable continued prescriptions.
Tomorrow is trash day so some aged lawn decor in the rear of the house are finding a new home tomorrow at 6am. It is a beautiful sunny day for the first day in what seems forever but the ground is still wet.0 -
We got the rain overnight. It was a huge downpour. It should bring down a lot of the pollen coating the cars. Luckily, I don’t have allergies but it looks horrible on the cars. The rain stopped about an hour ago and it looks brighter out there.0

Finally back home after all my appointments. Good checkup at the dentist, picked up my prescription on the way home, then hurried home so I could go on line and fill in reams of electronic paper work before going to the podiatrist appointment. I liked the podiatrist a lot. He diagnosed the issue as a Morton’s neuroma which is an inflammation of the nerve that sits between the two toes that I’ve been having the pain from. Treatment consists of an expensive set of orthotic inserts and steroids, which I’m already taking for my hip. If that doesn’t help, then we can try a steroid injection and if that doesn’t help, there is a surgical procedure to remove the portion of the nerve that is causing the problem. Hopefully I won’t have to go that route. The doctor was young and got very excited while diagnosing the problem because it showed up so clearly on the ultrasound. He said it usually doesn’t show up that well. He was even more excited when he was manipulating my toes and was able to hear the nerve crunch when he squeezed my foot. He said it usually doesn’t make an audible pop like mine did. It wasn’t really painful but a bit uncomfortable. I go back in 2 weeks to see if there is progress with the use of the insert and steroids.0
-
Pam--Let's hope that your 2 week checkup will show that the surgical procedure is not necessary.
Helene--You got the rain that we have been having except for today. It was so nice to see sunshie.0 -
We got the sun for a bit in the afternoon and tomorrow’s supposed to be nicer. Then back to rain Thursday.
Pam, that’s interesting that the doctor could clearly see your toe problem. Here’s hoping steroids and insert does the trick.0 -
Pam - don't you love it when they're young and eager? LOL! Here's hoping you get some relief.0

I'm taking my aging minivan in today for its annual checkup. Always fun. Not!0

Off to see my primary for the routine 3 month checkup that keeps the prescriptions valid. It is a beautiful sunny day with rain expected tonight and tomorrow. I go to Columbus, OH tomorrow.0

My foot already feels better just from wearing the orthotic insert and probably from 2 days of steroids. I also ordered from from Amazon some inserts that stick to the sole of my foot and can be worn with sandals or shoes the insert won’t fit into. They should be here today. I had to search to find some that don’t use adhesive to adhere to my foot because adhesives give me a rash. I finally found one that claims not to use adhesive, although I’m not completely clear on how they stay on. However, they were only $8.00 so I figured it was worth a try. Getting relief so quickly makes me mad at myself for not investigating this sooner. I’ve been dealing with this for more than 3 years, and it looks like I could have cleared it up immediately if I had gotten it diagnosed properly. Lesson learned.0

Pam - that's great that you're feeling some relief already!

I've been on the internet figuring out the best way to get to where we're taking Dad for Father's Day tomorrow. Saturday in Gettysburg in June (height of tourist season). Whose bright idea was this? Oh, yeah, my baby brother's. LOL!
(Our other brother works weekends and our sister lives in Arizona so holidays are typically me, my baby brother, his wife and dad. We have to spend time with dad while we have him.)
I had a wild work week this week so I'm ready for a deep breath. For some time now I have made my email say I'm out on Fridays so I only have to deal with emergencies 4 days a week. It's about as much as this almost 70-year old wants to handle.
Today I have to pick up my van, pay the humongous bill (still far less than a year's car payments on a new van), and do some grocery shopping.

Maryanne--I'm sure where you finally choose to take your Dad for Father's Day will be greatly appreciated by him. Enjoy the time together.
Pam--Fabulous that you are finding relief already! Don't kick yourself too much for not going earlier.
I had a six hour round trip drive to Columbus, OH yesterday. Scattered showers? True, until I neared Columbus at which time it rained so hard that I could barely see the road. I have a fear of hydroplaning after an accident. I hoped that it would stop before I hit the six lanes of the beltway...and it did. When I came out of my appointment, I saw the skies getting dark and decided I had better high tail it instead of eating. Wonderful timing! I spent over 15 miles on
the beltway when the skies opened and poured. Everyone was driving far below the posted limit as visibility was severely limited. Five minutes after I exited to the route home, it stopped but I drove into another downpour about half way home. I was so relieved that I treated myself to a Burger King Whopper combo an hour from home.0 -

Jean, that sounds like a pretty harrowing drive. I think the Burger King combo meal was totally earned!
I’m continuing to see improvement with both my foot and hip. The Prednisone is helping both conditions, so I’m getting a twofer out of that drug, lol! I had my semi annual Prolia injection yesterday. This week has been unusually filled with medical appointments for me. I got the pad for my foot yesterday that I ordered from Amazon. It fits into sandals and flats that the orthotic insert is too big for. I can tell that it helps, but since it doesn’t have any adhesive it is a little more difficult to place correctly and keep in place. I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it in time, but for now it’s a bit frustrating. However, the pain relief makes it totally worthwhile to persevere until I figure it out.0 -
Jean - our Angel used to sit like that (like a little person).0

Sounds like there was a shortage of vowels in Baltimore. L OL. Was the accent he did accurate? I grew up in CT and we didn’t really have a regional accent. I enjoyed the clip.0

He WAY over-dramatized it. And it's not something you hear a lot in everyday life. I think it's fading away. Although natives calling everyone "hon" is surely accurate (as is, unfortunately, the wide spread racism).
Of course not everyone hears everything. When I got to college my first year English teacher said "you're Dutch" (i.e. PA Dutch). I said yes, but how did you know? She said she could hear it in my voice. No one else ever did.

Although I’m a native Texan and have never lived outside the state, my accent is almost never identified as Texan. I’ve been asked if I’m from New York or the Midwest. People are usually surprised when I tell them I’m a native Texan. Yet most of my family would never be mistaken as having anything but a Texas accent. Go figure, lol!0

I had a near sleepless night last night and today I’m exhausted. I’ve been on prednisone all week and that tends to make a person feel wired. It didn’t affect me too much until the last 2 nights, but it caught up to me in a big way last night. I tossed and turned for an hour and a half and finally gave up and moved out to the den with a pillow and my reader. I read for awhile then tried again to sleep, resulting in brief periods of alternating sleep and wakefulness. Around 5:30 I went back to the bedroom and finally slept for a couple of hours before DH got up and then I dozed for a couple of hours after that. Today was my last dose of prednisone and tonight I plan to double up on my melatonin, so hopefully I will be able to sleep. Not fun!
Part of my wakefulness was caused by not being able to shut down my thoughts. Yesterday afternoon I unexpectedly found myself offering to plan and host a dinner party for 12 to celebrate a dear friend’s 70th birthday next Friday. It was the only date where nobody was traveling or having out of town guests or babysitting grandchildren, so that was the date we chose. I did decide to accept help from the other attendees and made it a semi-potluck. We will supply the main course and a side, as well as dessert (birthday cake, of course), and I assigned the other 4 ladies a dish or appetizer to round out the menu. So all night I was second guessing the menu and working out (and reworking out) my timeline to get everything done before next Friday. A week seems like a lot of time, until I start thinking about what can be done ahead of time and what has to be done the day of the party. I know it will all work out, and I actually have very little on my schedule next week, but these were my middle of the night thoughts. I’m feeling more relaxed about it today, so hopefully it won’t keep me awake tonight.0 -

Dad, baby brother, SIL and I planned to meet at the Appalachian Brewery in Gettysburg yesterday at 11:30. What none of us realized - and the internet didn't clue us - was that there are TWO of them (only one is shown as "Gettysburg" on their web site). At 11:30 I was sitting at one and they were sitting at the other. They took pity on me, got up and drove to "my" brewery (they said their waitress laughed heartily and said it happens all the time - ya think maybe someone should work on their web site?). That one is in the heart of the tourist part of town. We took a window seat and watched the out of town tourists. Personally I think the food wasn't that great but it was great to see everyone.0

Pam - I didn't know pred could make you wired (I refuse to read the side effects of drugs because they've done studies that have shown that people who know the side effects get the side effects). Hopefully you'll feel more normal soon.0
