I feel like I'm just running and running. Trying to get all the things I need to do this week organized and into a slot. I feel like I'm trying to put together puzzle pieces. Dang holiday on Thursday!

I'm working on decluttering. I don't really have time but figure I should work on it now while we're still doing cat shows and the occasional flea market. I've got the basement 95% done which feels like a great accomplishment. I took out bags and bags of trash and have boxes piled up at the storage unit to go to shows. I didn't go through my decorations. I figure I'll do that as I get them out. When I got out my Jul/Aug/Sep decorations (yes, I decorate all year which DH just admitted he'd never noticed) I put a few things into the boxes for shows.

Now I'm moving on to kitchen/dining room/bathroom/hall closet. Don't know why my mind bunched those together but it did so I'm going with the flow.

Helene--It is great that the restaurant agreed to serve you dessert despite the kitchen closing. Sounds yummy!

I'm taking a friend for a checkup with her surgeon as she can't drive yet because of the arm surgery. It is a beautiful day for a two-hour drive one way.

Today I’m picking up a friend who recently had surgery and meeting some more friends for lunch. Afterward we plan to go and see the movie Yesterday.

Speaking of yesterday, yesterday I saw my family practice doctor about my hip pain. I saw the nurse practitioner in his practice 3 weeks ago and she prescribed prednisone for 5 days, followed by Motrin 3 times a day. I haven’t noticed any improvement so I went back. This time I saw my doctor. I was a little disappointed in this visit. Without doing any exam at all, he recommended that I see an orthopedic doctor and seemed to think I was going to need a hip replacement! I think that’s a bit premature, especially since he didn’t even do an exam. I did schedule an appointment with the orthopedic doctor that repaired my ankle, but can’t see him until the 18th of this month. I guess in the meantime, I’ll continue the Motrin or go back to taking Meloxicam and hope it doesn’t get worse. It’s starting to really affect my sleep as it is hard to get comfortable for very long in any position.

Ask if PT would help before trying surgery. I had extreme shoulder pain for months from the rotator cuff problem. Sleeping was one of the more difficult things. I wanted to deal with it at the least of treatment to start. I did 12 weeks of therapy and made a complete recovery. You can always consider surgery if that doesn’t help. Good luck.

I just had my snack of ten bing cherries. I’ve never been much of a fruit eater. I think I grew up with the mindset that fruit was too high in sugar and calories. By counting them out, I’m having a small number of calories (50). I’m surprised how filling they are and how long it takes me to eat a portion. The season is pretty short and I plan on making the most of it.

The stores around here have reached a new low. They now call everything just "red cherries". Dh loves good cherries so I've been on the lookout.

I'm struggling with both the Toyota dealer and Verizon. DH gets exasperated and wants to "fire them all". I get to play peacemaker. When I should be working. Oh, joy!

Happy Independence Day! We are having a very low-key, laid back celebration here. We will grill some steaks later today with a salad and some hobo potatoes in foil packs also on the grill for a very easy meal, then either watch fireworks on TV or possibly drive somewhere local to watch our town’s fireworks display. They usually do it over the lake and it is easy to find a number of good places to watch, but this year the lake level is so high that most of the parks are under water, so the launch site had to be moved and the viewing sites are not as good. One thing I will NOT be doing, is watching the toddler in chief’s military parade/campaign rally.

    Happy 4th!

It's very dark and gloomy here in Baltimore and starting to thunder. I'm hoping for a downpour in DC to rain out the would be dictator's military fiasco.

Enjoy the holiday!! Another day of rain. A flash flood warning has been issued in one area of our state because a dam is in danger of collapsing. If it does, the water will hit a town already experiencing a million and a half dollars in damage from last week's flood there.

I spent part of the day working in the house and another part preparing to make pre-need arrangements for Midnight when he crosses the Rainbow Bridge. I did this for my other cat long before it was needed, and I was so glad I did as I was not in any shape to make good decisions. Even this afternoon's planning was upsetting. I just need to go to the funeral home in the city to finalize the plans and then file them with the vet.

We have a beautiful day in the northeast. It’s about 70 degrees on the coast and the humidity isn’t bad. We’re doing a low key day as well. We’ll watch the Boston Pops concert on TV followed by the Boston fireworks. There are several local displays we could go to but we’re not into fighting the traffic. We saw our town’s display Monday. We met friends in a nearby shopping center lot. It’s five minutes from home. I’ll probably watch the replay of the Capitol fireworks at 10. I heard Trump should be back in the White House by 7:45 so no danger of seeing him. I heard on the news he’s planning a 1 hour speech, Yawn!

Jean - the first cat DH and I lost was our Beethoven. She was a black teenager when we got her from a barn. She wasn't our first cat but she was our first loss and I took it HARD. (Cat Rescue of Maryland is dedicated to her memory. I often say CROM is a memorial run amuck.) When I brought her ashes home, I assumed we'd scatter them somewhere. DH assumed we'd buy an urn. So an urn it was. And for each of 20 cats since we have purchased an urn. Except for those early cats, all our urns have come from Rays of Joy, who make beautiful stained glass urns.

This is from the Rays of Joy website:

Helene - fireworks are legal in Maryland (shocked us when we first moved here; there are portable firework "stores" that they haul to various parking lots before the holidays). There were loud noises every night this week and last night the noise went on for hours. People have told me they have to sedate their dogs all week to keep them from injuring themselves because of the noise. I'm sure there will be some for the next several days as well although hopefully last night was the worst.

Jean - I started my decluttering in the basement. Now I'm working on this floor (going to the basement whenever an idea for doing even more down there occurs to me). I'm NOT looking forward to when I have to move upstairs and face the clothes!

On the news last night, they reported the Randolph Town Hall caught fire when a firecracker landed on the roof. They don’t know if it was from the town display or people shooting off illegal fireworks. They happened at the same time. They saved the building but there is damage. Fireworks are illegal in MA but it doesn’t stop private displays. We heard them throughout the neighborhood all week and we aren’t talking tiny explosions. We watch the Boston Pops and the spectacular display that followed.

Fireworks are illegal within the city limits here, but that doesn’t stop people from driving outside the city and buying them. We heard some last night, but not very many and not for very long. In years past, some of our neighbors have set some off for a fairly long period of time. If the police catch them the fines are pretty high, but people rarely get caught. In years when we are experiencing drought, there is a lot of emphasis on TV and the newspaper reminding people that it is illegal, but in years like this one where all of the lakes are full and we’ve had a lot of rain, I don’t recall seeing a single mention about it.

I saw an article recently on needle felted cats. Wow! Gave a copy to Bonnie yesterday and now she wants to try her hand at it. Very lifelike which makes them very creepy especially when apparently some people will make your own cat.

I've never introduced a cat to a dog but of course I've introduced a TON of cats into this house and it's never the same twice. One I remember clearly is bringing Reggie in. That was early on. I'd read up on introductions and was prepared to follow the expert advice. I had a neighbor bring Reg in in a carrier. Well, of course when the neighbor came to the door our cats hid and they never even knew a stranger brought Reg into the house. So much for the best laid plans....

Now I start them out in the "big cage" in the laundry room. When they're used to me I open the door and what will be will be!

I'm making real progress on decluttering. I realized this is different than downsizing. I'm not taking anything off the walls, for example. But I'm making progress and piling up quite a few boxes at the storage unit headed for either a cat show or a flea market (I've signed us up for an extra space at each of the next two cat shows). I'm working on the living room now. Don't tell DH but I'm just pitching the videotapes. We've discovered there's no market for those even at a flea market.

I have to do this during the two mornings DH goes to work (just another reason to do it NOW before he completely retires) or after he goes to bed because he has a "stuff" problem. Definite hoarder tendencies. That also means I can't completely clear out any area because if I did that, and he filled it with junk, I'd probably be in jail for homicide. LOL!

DH has the same kind of tendencies as you husband. I’ll suggest getting rid of something and he’ll say not today. Our main TV was dead when we came home from FL. We’ve replaced it and the dead one is sitting on the floor next to the cabinet with the new one. I’ve suggested for weeks that we bring the old one to the dump. He’s had a number of excuses of why it’s not the right time. Go figure.
