    Good one!

(although I gave up wine, or anything liquid with calories, years ago, I remember it fondly)

Midnight has obviously had great care to live so long. I hope he breaks your vet’s record. Our Cagney made it to 16 and Cheyenne was 17 when she passed. We decided not to get another cat because of spending half the year in FL. None of our girls were good travelers. I do miss the company of having a cat in the family.

Right this minute there are two Dubbs cats at the vet and the house feels SO empty. Smokie sat in Tuffy's spot last evening but no one took his spot on the bed.

The oldest we ever had was Chiclet. He was elderly when we got him so we don't know exactly how old he was when he died but our guesstimate was about 18. He was a "pet quality persian" according to our vet. Someone at the vet originally said he was 5. A later revision much older was too late, by then there was no way we were euthanizing him. I had the hardest time figuring out what he'd eat. I opened a million cans. Finally, one day, the magic happened and I could almost see him smile. He also re-learned how to play while he was here. He and I were scheduled to go to Cornell for the feline epogen study (treatment for anemia). He died in his sleep before we could go. Which was probably lucky since I broke my heel and it ended up I couldn't have gone anyway. I found out some years later that the study was not a success.

PT is going great. I can tell I’m walking better than I was a month ago. Thursday is the last session covered by Medicare. I’ve hit my yearly cap. But I’m goin to do three extra sessions and pay for them myself. I asked about my range of motion and Ashley said it went from 115 degrees to 120. She thought that was a good improvement. I’m in less pain walking which encourages me to walk more.

A really good friend of mine is going to a PT place that's like the first one I went to. After insurance stops paying, you can keep going paying something minimal each month. To do that, they get licensed as a gym. I know she and I had the same experience. The therapist doesn't officially work with you but is there to answer questions and provide encouragement. Great deal!

I couldn't find one like that that had a certified hand therapist, unfortunately.

This place doesn’t operate that way. I’m paying full price but it’s worth it to me. There are 2 therapists and 2 assistants. I work with one of the therapists and the two assistants. I like their approach because I feel I’ve gotten to know them and their styles. There have been anywhere from 2 to 6 patients doing therapy at a time. I think most of the patients are recovering from surgeries on arms, hips and knees. I was talking to a woman who was rehabbing a back injury. We start the drive to FL on November 18th. We’ll drive to NJ the first day and visit DH’s family for a couple of days. We stay one night in a hotel in VA and then drive to SC to stay with my brother. My sister lives about a half hour from him and she’ll probably host Thanksgiving dinner. We spend about a week with my brother. We usually spend a night In Jacksonville before driving cross state to our winter home. I’ve recently reconnected with an old friend on FB. She lives near Atlanta and said she’d love to have us visit her on the drive south. I’ll check with her to see still wants us to visit. If she does, we’d drive through western GA when we leave an drive down the west coast of FL instead of driving across FL.

As you can see, it’s a lot of miles (1500 or so) so I want my knee in the best shape it can be. I was at the chiropractor this afternoon and he always has to adjust that knee. He could see a difference in it. It wasn’t that out of line and was easier for him to adjust.

If the knee needs additional therapy, I can start over in January. Medicare and insurance will cover me then if I need it.

Helene, if you haven’t already thought about doing this, you might want to ask your physical therapist for exercises you can do while on the road to try to maintain your progress. I seem to recall that the long drive often causes issues for you by the time you reach your destination.

We are starting to get ready for our trip to Greece. We leave Monday afternoon and arrive in Athens around 6:00 PM the next day. It will be a long trip, but I’m hoping to sleep some during the overnight portion from here to London. I think we have about a 3 hour layover in London before our flight to Athens. There’s a welcome reception at the hotel, but we probably won’t arrive in time, which is fine with me. After such a long time without any real rest, I wouldn’t be at my best for meeting my fellow travelers anyway. I’m sure by that point all I’ll want is a little dinner and a bed.

Helene--It just seemed like yesterday you returned from Florida. Safe travels!

Pam--A trip to Greece? How exciting! Good luck on napping on the plane; that isn't something I can do.

I return to Australia in late June providing health permits and I see no reason for it not to do so. I used to have the longest non-stop flight there until Quantas started the New York to Sydney route, adding an hour to what ours was.

The mid-week weigh in was very good, I take the mouser to the vet this afternoon. I hate spending an hour on the road to get there but they are so good and have great hours.

Maryanne--When I last had PT that was 2 days a week from September through December of that year, I kept wondering when the insurance would quit paying. I was told as long as the PT people told them that the PT was still justified my company would pay. My Christmas present for that year was "You don't need to come back as you are doing fine on your own now."

I’m hopeful, but not really optimistic about being able to sleep on the flight to London. I typically haven’t been able to sleep on long flights, but I’m going to take my melatonin, use a sleep mask, and hope for the best! DH and I each have an aisle seat across from each other, so that will make it a bit more comfortable I hope. We could have been seated together, but I elected to keep this original assignment for convenience when either of us wants/needs to get up and move around.

Pam--When my niece and I last went to Australia, we took a 787 which is a twin aisle with 9 seats across with the aisles separating it in a 3-3-3 configuation. We both like aisle seats so we took the center aisle seats leaving the middle seat empty. We figured that would discourage people from selecting the seat unlkess it was a person traveling along...and we all know how people like middle seats. We succeeded and it was great Even without the availability of the middle seat for us, the seats were comfy and the legroom very good. It was a very comfortable trip. Needless to say, we are doing that again. Having the aisle seat in the center configuration also makes it easy for getting up and moving around.

Pam, your trip toGreece sounds wonderful. I hope you get some rest on the flight over. I have at home exercises I can do when we make our stops. I think I’ll be able to manage it. I’ll know how I’m maintains because me knee stiffens up when I sit for a long time, like a car ride. I hobble those first couple of steps when I stand up. I can do some leg stretches during stops if that happens.

I believe we will be on a 777 for our flight to London. DH loves that plane as he actually was part of the team that designed it. When he looked at our seat assignment it looked like the flight was mostly full, so I’m not holding out much hope for empty seats next to either of us, but it would certainly be welcome.

After I broke my heel I actually went to PT three days a week for several years. When insurance stopped paying they switched me to the "gym". All the same equipment available. The same therapists around if I had questions. I only stopped when DH got laid off and I started back to work full-time.

My therapist told me the Medicare cap is $2400 a year. I was at that point from my FL therapy. She said it could go to $3000 if she could certify it was medically necessary. Tomorrow’s session will bring me to the cap. I made three more appointments and will pay myself. I’m lucky that paying for the extra sessions isn’t a hardship for me. Not everyone is that lucky. I consider it an investment in myself. When we get to FL, I’ll rejoin the rec center. They have treadmills, bikes, elliptical machines and other weight related machines. I think I can do some of the exercises they showed me there.

Helene, it’s no problem to quote Jean’s posts so you can see them, but let us know if they start showing up in your feed again. I just quoted your post by mistake, lol!

I’ll let you know if they show up again. Jean said she sees my posts so you don’t have to quote mine for her. I hope they eventually start showing up. In the meantime, I appreciate you and Maryanne keeping me in the loop with the quotes. How many days is the Greece trip?

The Greece trip is 8 days of the mainland where Athens is located, and 4 days by sea, with stops on Mykonos, Kusadasi (Turkey), Patmos, Rhodes, Heraklion (Crete), and Santorini. Some days there are 2 ports of call, depending on weather. So far, the weather is looking very nice, with highs in the mid 70’s and lows in the upper 50’s. I had planned for cooler weather, so now I am rethinking some of the wardrobe choices.

I work today and just tried unsuccessfully to inject liquid medicine into my cat's mouth. He may be over 16 years but he still has quick reflexes and sharp teeth.

I am off to work today but am tired from going to the vet and worrying about the cat who is losing weight as well as having a very loose stool problem.

I am still doing well with food so far this week. Exercise was off yesterday.

Good thoughts headed out to Midnight. I just boarded our Lola for two weeks to make sure she got her antibiotics (for a urinary tract infection). Only works when the drug is of finite duration. I don't look forward to her ever needing daily meds infinitely.

I've never had any luck at liquid meds (and have the wall stains to prove it).

I'm supposed to be getting a urinary acidifier in Smokie. To my amazement she's horrible to pill. One of those snap her head dramatically side to side to side ones. Haven't had one of those in awhile. Oh, joy!

    Anyway, some suggestions:

    1. Does Midnight eat wet food? Since you only have the one cat, you might try (a) getting a pill version of the meds you can try crushing and mixing in food or (2) getting some tranquilizer from the vet, mix in breakfast (I never met a cat that could detect valium in food), waiting half an hour, then do the meds.

    2. Get your vet to prescribe a gel version of elavil you can rub on his ear, again wait half an hour, then do the meds. Has to come from a compounding pharmacy but they all ship. Be sure to tell them you don't want runny but rather want a toothpaste like consistency (only way I've ever figured out to explain it to them).

    3. Pill pockets. https://www.chewy.com/rescue-remedy-stress-relief-pet/dp/135502?utm_source=shopzilla&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=Rescue Remedy&utm_campaign=f

    4. Some people swear by Rescue Remedy on their food. https://www.chewy.com/rescue-remedy-stress-relief-pet/dp/135502?utm_source=shopzilla&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=Rescue Remedy&utm_campaign=f

Sounds like a lovely trip. DH would love that. He's mentioned wanting to see Greece several times. He would never actually go but apparently he thinks about it. LOL!

I wonder if this would come out anything like the old (discontinued) egg beaters florentine (which I loved). It's a lot of ingredients to buy to experiment.

I’ve made Hungry Girl egg mug dishes before. They come out pretty good and are easy to make. Make the egg recipe without the sauce and see how you like it. You wouldn’t have to buy a lot of extra ingredients if you just do the eggs, spinach and Laughing Cow. It’s important to stop at one minute to stir. That makes sure the cooked bits mix in with the still liquid bits. And if you don’t stir, it can explode all over your microwave. I’ve never had a problem with exploding if I stirred. And stay your mug with Pam so it comes out easy.
