Helene - I have all those books in my piles downstairs (I think there ended up being 3 of them?) but I've not yet gotten around to reading them.

I recently saw the first one on a list of good reads. I’d never heard of Street Cat Bob before that. I couldn’t put it down. I think there are 3 books. The Christmas themed booked sounded like a complilation of the other books. I requested one of the other titles that picks up the story. Bob sounds like an amazing cat. He’s friendly to most people but reacted negatively to a few people who had threatening behaviors.

Pam--Concentrate on getting taller? At my age, that won't work either.

Helene--There are some videos featuring Bob. I've seen several of them but have not read the book.

I am having lunch featuring 8 month old Nutrisystem. I found several boxes tucked away and I refuse to let the money invested go to waste. This was when I decided it was good to eat out of the "Big Box" and organized it in various places...and this went forgotten. If I don't check in this week, it might be because of adverse affects.

Jean - I've eaten much older NS food than that. LOL!

I ended up working mostly this weekend instead of doing the chores I was supposed to do. I keep saying I want to work toward working part-time but it's tough.

This morning I tried the Quaker oatmeal that is replacing the weight control. The fiber + protein. The maple and brown sugar variety. Not very sweet IMHO. I added a sweetener packet to it.

Maryanne--I'll have to get that Quaker oatmeal and try it.

If any of you have read the Marie Kondo books or the Netflix series on decluttering, you know that the guideline for keeping something is "Does it bring you joy?" As a result, I love this!!

Interestingly, while our cats do most "cat" things, knocking stuff off hasn't ever been a problem (except when they get the "crazies" and start running around). E.g. I have three flameless candles on the coffee table - two of which are very small - and they never get knocked over unless Tuffy takes a short cut to the couch.

I saw the cardiologist again today. She's says my blood pressure is getting there. She thinks one more medication change will produce the results she's looking for (<130 and <80). Then it will be time for a repeat echo.

I’ve been binge watching The Closer on Amazon Prime. It was my favorite show when it was on first run. I’m enjoying seeing episodes back to back. The humor of the characters is stronger when you see them that way. Brenda reluctantly adopted a cat in season 1. I knew she had a cat from later seasons but I’ Forgotten how she got the cat. Several episodes have funny bits that revolve around the cat. Plus no commercials.

I never liked The Closer. Her fake southern accent drove me crazy and I hated her harsh red lipstick. Those two things bugged me so much I could never pay attention to the storyline.

I’ve always enjoyed medical shows and shows about lawyers. I worked in the legal field for about 8 years, so that's why I find those shows interesting. I’m not sure why I like the medical shows. My SIL is a nurse and she hates them because she says they never get the medical details right. She especially hates The Good Doctor, but I’m not sure why. I like that one, but I do agree that there are a lot of things that aren’t too plausible. However, it’s entertainment, so I try to ignore the details that I know aren’t right.

I had a manicure and pedicure today. I was way overdue for the pedicure, so I took advantage of the warm weather we are currently enjoying to go and do that. I think we have one more nice day ahead before another cold front comes through.

I’ll be baking a birthday cake on Friday for a friend’s birthday party that night. She usually asks for a cake called Dixie General’s Cake that was supposedly General Robert E. Lee’s favorite cake. It’s made with lost of fresh lemon and orange zest and juice, and 9 eggs that are separated. The egg whites are whipped then incorporated into the batter, which gives the cake its volume. The cake is delicious, but it’s a pain to make. This year she surprised me and asked for a different cake and it happens to be one that is much easier, so I was very happy to fulfill her request. Hopefully it will turn out well.

The medical shows on today - The Good Doctor, The Resident, Grey's Anatomy, Chicago Medical Center and New Amsterdam - I watch them all but boy are they SO very different!

Lawyer shows are lacking these days. I've got The Good Fight on my tablet but haven't really watched any of it yet.

I remember enjoying the closer. Being from the north, I'm sure I didn't fully appreciate her lack of authentic accent.

Rick Perry was the designated survivor last night? Seriously? Could Trump be any more bonkers? Kiefer Sutherland would have been a better choice even though he only plays the designated survivor on TV. The founding fathers are turning over in their graves for Congress' failure to put checks and balances on this psychotic wannabe dictator

I didn't watch the State of the Union address. I knew I could get highlights today. I respect the office of the President but not the current individual holding it. I think part of it stems from people who do not agree with every word being put down by those who have "drunk the KoolAid" and worship every word as "gospel." There is such a thing as free speech.

On another note, this might apply to me:

Jean, I agree with you. I respect the office of the president, but not the current occupant of it. I want the country to do well, but I don’t think we are headed in the right direction under his so-called leadership. I didn’t watch the speech last night either, for 2 reasons. One was I didn’t want to contribute to the ratings for it, and the other was as you said. I knew I could read all about it today and hear all kinds of analysis as well.

When I started trying to lose weight last year, I was really disgusted with the spare tire(s) around my middle, as well as the back pain I was continually dealing with. My doctor very bluntly told me that one of the reasons I was having so much back pain was because of all the “ballast” (her exact word) I was carrying in front. So I set out to lose weight and work on strengthening my back muscles and reducing the ballast. Toward that end, I started every morning doing some exercises for my back and planks for my core. I gradually worked up to doing 3 minutes of planks as well as a variety of other exercises. I’m currently doing about 20 minutes 3-4 times per week to maintain, and I’m really happy with my midsection now. I still have a slight roll, but it is so much better than when I started. Losing 20 pounds was a big help, but I think the exercises made the biggest difference in that area. And I’m no longer having the back issues, which is by far the best part. So although my stomach isn’t completely flat, it’s a whole lot closer than it was!

Like Maryanne, the accent didn’t bother me because I’m not a Southerner. It sounded okay to me .because in those days I didn’t hear the real thing too often. Since watching back to back, I cracked up when Brenda’s mother comes to town for a funeral. She brings homemade fudge to the squadroom. She uses the thank you, thank you very much that Brenda says and you can see Brenda learned it from her mom. That was a nice touch. Another time, Provenza is mocking the way Brenda speaks and gets laughs from the other detectives. He keeps it up not realizing Brenda is coming up behind him and hears it all.

I love medical and legal shows too. I’ve never watched Chicago Medical Center but I watch all the others. I was a big fan of House too.

Chicago Med is more like the old ER than any of the others, I think.

DH insisted I stop the world today (remember, Thursday, work day), do our taxes and then estimate next year. This year doesn't look too bad but next year - ouch! Required minimum distributions and no longer being eligible for IRA deductions.

Since I keep prodding him to keep working, I'm sure I got some evil glares when he saw the tax numbers. But I ignore. He's only working 2 days a week, after all, plus maybe an hour and a half total the other 3 days for which he gets paid for NINE HOURS. LOL!
