When I was a kid, I was very fortunate to have a lot of people who encouraged and enabled my love of reading. In the summer my mom would drive me downtown once a week to check out books from the library. I was the only one of her 3 kids who enjoyed reading, so it was a special effort just for me. I also had a 3rd grade teacher who allowed me to go to the school library as often as I wanted, as long as I could show her that I actually read all of the books I checked out. I think by the end of the school year I had read about half of the library. My family thought I was really strange because when I didn’t have anything else to read, I would take out a volume of the encyclopedias and just read about random topics. I truly believe that a child who reads has a huge advantage in life, and certainly in school.

Google FL bobcat on pool cage for an amazing video. It was on the local news last night. A young bobcat chased a squirrel up the side of a screened pool cage, looking for lunch. Spoiler alert..the squirrel has a close escape. It,s an amazing video that happened about 50 miles north of here.

It's funny how the concepts of distance has changed. I'm sure there must have been a library in Gettysburg which was only 8 miles away from us but we almost never went there. "Far". LOL!

I didn’t grow up near a library either. I was always a big reader. The local library was about 5 miles away. My dad would drop me off there and pick me up a little later. I would stock up because he only took me every few weeks. It was a small branch library
. By the time I was in Jr High, he’d drop me at the main library. I was in book heaven there. I read a lot of Gothic novels at that age. One strange thing I read was the Tarzan books. I think they had the whole series. I liked the Tarzan movies so that probably influenced my decision to read the series.

What if you snuck into an abandoned house to smoke some pot and stumbled on a tiger. Would you be surprised if met with skepticism when you called 311? LOL!

Just when I think it couldn't get more preposterous, from an account of Trump's El Paso rally:

Then there were the T-shirts: the new Trump/Pence 2020 shirt, the old “Hillary sucks but not like Monica” shirt, and a “We are Q” shirt, a reference to QAnon, the absurd and ever-evolving pro-Trump conspiracy theory that holds that the president is on the verge of destroying a pedophile ring that has been secretly running the U.S. government for years

Those Great Danes remind me of my friends’ dogs, Lewis and Clark. Sweet dogs, but they are so big!

Love the card--Choosing between you and the cat! :)

I grew up near a library and was always in it at a very young age. I discovered the truth about the "birds and the bees" in the library as my older than norm parents had been reluctant to let me know. Now kids know all about that at a very tender age.

I am so tired of the swing in temperatures. 75 was the high the other day, dropping down to the high 20s, back up to 56 today and expected to drop again with high in 30s tomorrow. Just as long as we don't get a lot of snow, I can tolerate it.

You can tolerate the temperature swings but it doesn’t sound very pleasant. We spent part of the day at the Toyota dealership, getting the truck serviced. I had stopped at my nail salon on my way to Toyota to see if I could get a manicure later in the day

I get the dry dipping powder and it lasts for at least a month. I had no chips but my nails were so long that I had trouble typing. I was also afraid one or two might break off. I checked my credit card receipt and I was there January 8th so it was just a bit more than a month.

We had time for a quick lunch after the auto service. The restaurant was across the street from a new Ollie’s which is opening next week. We wanted to check out exactly where the store is. We’ve been to Ollie’s in SC but this is the first one around here.

I made it to the nail salon with a couple of minutes to spare. I picked up a few groceries at Aldi. Now I’m home and I’m planning to watch TV and relax.

I'm off to grocery shop. Had to check emails first to make sure no one set up a conference call for me at the last minute.

Tonight I'm having dinner with my best friend. Here's hoping she's going to have work next week!

This struck me as funny. My vet's current hospital cat can't be petted which I find interesting. She isn't allowed down on the public floor.

I don't know if I ever mentioned that we have a NY Times bestselling author who's adopted 3 cats from us. She is a client of our vet and a client of the hairdresser whose colonies I'm helping to feed. (Baltimore is a small, small town!)

She recently took a cruise to Antarctica and wrote about it for her blog (which she writes with other historical romance writers:

Maryanne--I'll check out that cruise link. I just checked the video link of the NCL ship destroying the dock in Puerto Rico after having two engine failures at sea.

I’m exhausted tonight. I hosted a luncheon today for my friend I’ve mentioned who has been staying in Michigan to care for her elderly parents. She and her husband are here for 2-3 weeks to take care of some medical issues and get a break from her parents, so we took the opportunity to get together. My friends all pitched in and it was a potluck with everyone contributing to the feast, but as the hostess, there was still a lot of work. I didn’t mind and enjoyed having everyone here, but I am really tired now. It was great to see our friend, and she was really happy to spend time with all of us. We joked about flattening her tires and pulling wires under the hood of her car to keep her here, but I’m afraid it would only temporarily slow her down. She does have to go back as her sister was only able to take 3 weeks off from work.

Tomorrow I will be doing laundry and packing to drive down to Houston to my SIL’s home. On Saturday the two of us will drive to Orange Beach for a week, then back to Houston before I’ll drive back home. DH opted to stay home this trip, so it will just be the two of us. Hopefully we won’t get on each other’s nerves too much. It’s a 2 bedroom condo, so we can always retreat to our room if we need some space.

Pam - I'm glad your friend got to see all of you!

I had to google Orange Beach. I've never been alone with any of my SILs for even 5 minutes, I don't think. Good luck!

Before having dinner with my friend last evening I thought I'd stop in to Wockenfuss and browse. They are a local candy company and their store sells candy, cards and tchotchkes. I should have known better. I walked in and the store was FILLED with men of all sizes and ages. I turned around and walked right back out again.

She didn't have to go to work today so we had a little more time than usual (she commutes from far northeast of Baltimore to DC most days, which is brutal).

When we visit the in laws, mt sil and I will often spend the afternoon together having lunch and seeing a movie. I don’t know what it would be like to spend a week just the two of us.

Happy Valentines Day, my friends. I hope you all are enjoying your day.

My SIL and I get along fairly well. I do find some of her habits annoying, and I’m sure she finds some of mine equally frustrating, but we usually manage to deal fairly well with it. We both love being at the beach and enjoy doing the same things while we are there, so I think we will have a good trip. I think the 8 hours in the car, each way, will be the hardest part. When DH is along to do the driving I spend the time reading, but I doubt that will work with her. I’m sure she will want to drive, which is fine with me, but I think she will expect to talk the whole time.

I had a rough night last night. I woke up around 2:30 with my stomach hurting. I got up and went to the bathroom and had a bout of diarrhea and was feeling like I might throw up as well, but didn’t. When I headed back to bed I started feeling very faint, and did pass out after a few steps. I crashed face-first into a standing mirror then rolled over onto my back. Luckily the mirror came out of its frame, but didn’t break. I did cut my eyebrow and banged my ankle, but otherwise was unharmed. I think I scared a few years off DH’s life. He got me back into bed and I finally got back to sleep, but was pretty restless for the rest of the night. Today I’m feeling a little weak and lethargic and I have a headache. My face is swollen above and below the outer corner of my eyebrow and starting to bruise. A friend stopped by and said she had something similar last Saturday, so I’m guessing I picked up some kind of bug. I hope it moves on quickly since I need to get packed for my trip and have a 4 and 1/2 hour drive ahead of me tomorrow.

Pam, what an awful experience. It’s a wonder you weren’t badly hurt. You might be able to use it to your advantage. Tell sil you have a bit of a headache from the fall and ask to listen to music instead of conversation. You might even be able to nap a bit. Mention it part way there if you feel up to conversation the first few hours. Then you wouldn’t have to talk the whole 8 hours.
