Non Scale Victories

I still stop a lot for fast food, but I've learned to lighten up my choices. For instance: I stop by Arby's most evenings (well, back before Covid and before work at home started) but what I do is get a single turkey slider without the cheese, which is only 160 calories. If I pitch the top of the bun, that gets it down to 70 calories. For me, that's worth it - I indulge the "I want it" side a little and actually get it to compromise with me0

I have found that Arby’s has some good choices. At most places I can find something that isn’t too bad and will fit in my calories. This particular fast food place is a special occasion since it isn’t close to me. I am going to Missouri tomorrow but going to do my best to will myself not to stop again. We shall see how it goes tomorrow. Today was an empty day where it didn’t matter what I ate I was still hungry.1

Wendy’s has some good choices,too...I am not a big fast food fan...the grease sets me off...don’t get me wrong, I used to make regular drive thrus but fast food is really not a big deal for me....I like restaurants!..be safe on your trip!0 -
Is Panda express considered fast food? One of the last times I tried to lose weight I cut out all fast food. (I can't go to a fast food place and pare down a meal, when I go I go big.)
My definition of fast food was anything with a drive thru...Of course I had a loop hole, one of my favorite sub shops had one location without a drive thru....I could go there (only that location) when I had the urge. It was about 20 minutes from my house so it was far enough to dissuade me from going to often.
Now a days nothing is off limits, fast food isn't an everyday thing anymore but I'm still going big, just fitting it in.

I used to love Arby's. I haven't been "feeling" their food for quite some time now. I am not sure why. Maybe it is a phase.
Fast food is an interesting category. The term "fast food" is often said with an air of judgement. It is not always undeserved because you can get food from there that has been sitting around far too long. But normally their food is just food. There are certain places I will not go depending on the hour of day. Hardees is, for me, breakfast or lunch AT lunch time only. They do such light traffic most of the rest of the day that it is almost always just 2 or 3 people working and the quality suffers.
I pick my Panda Express moments carefully. They and all food like it almost always equals 5 pounds of water weight gain for me even if I am already up that much or more. If it was just that it wouldn't be an issue some of the time but when it forces me to 8+ pounds of total water weight and I whoosh it back out, it takes electrolytes with it and it can make me feel bad.
For me the reason to keep my fast food restaurant visits down is because their food is high calorie for low satiety, at least for me. I had taco bell yesterday and I ended up sacrificing half of my deficit for the day to keep my hunger in check. I knew that would likely happen when I got it and I was prepared for that eventuality but it is just not something I would do often. If they offered more vegetables it would be less of a problem. I never eat salads from them anymore because something about them makes me need to visit a restroom nearly immediately and almost always urgently.1 -
Taco bell chicken soft tacos fresca style are another snack for me, but yeah, taco bell isn't very satiating at all. And they quit selling salads all together so there are no sides at all at taco bell that I'll get. I can get a burrito down to under 300 calories there, so when I'm in the mood for it and have the extra calories, I'll go.
Hardees here is the same way, especially the one in the nearest town to me. I can't do well there, though - the only thing Hardees has that I can fit in is their 3 piece chicken tenders; they do have the best calorie counts on tenders than anyone else.
And I'm peeved at McDonald's right now because they've tightened up their menu and now do not have any salads at all and no grilled chicken, so I refuse to go to McDonald's except for a very very rare occasion until they get their grilled chicken back!
Wendy's is a big go to place for me along with Arby's. Wendy's has a great line of salads that you can customize and get the calorie counts way down, and a small chili is under 200 calories if you limit the crackers. I can customize down their grilled chicken sandwich to around 250 calories just by taking the sauce off and asking for a regular bun instead of the artisan one.
So yeah, I'm fitting "fast" food into my menu fairly often Though since the better Arby's in the area is still drive through only, "fast" is definitely relative.......1 -
@bmeadows380 Interesting about the salads...I don’t eat out right now because I’m just too fraidy cat of the virus and the reliability of the people prepping the food. That being said, I eat 95% plant based and have noticed that all the produce I get has been rotting really fast-especially the lettuce-it’s getting these weird brown liquidy spots in it a day or two after buying it. I started wondering if produce is not as safe? Or if perhaps is being sprayed with more chemicals? So your comment spiked my curiosity.1

I"m not sure. The chicken might be explained by the shortage, though I found it interesting that Arby's cut way back on its turkey products and instead introduced roasted chicken in its place (I'll eat their roasted chicken but I'm not a fan - its dry to me and I'd rather have the turkey). Taco Bell dropped their salads long before Covid, but I'm not sure why McDonald's did so - I suspect it has to do with the product as most of what they have left on their menu has to be fried or baked, though if that was the case, I'm not sure why they dropped the grilled chicken, unless its back to the shortage issues.
I have to watch my produce for sure and usually pay a little extra and get it at Krogers. It seems that any produce I get at Walmart goes back within a day or two while Krogers will at least last several days.1 -
Today I had someone coming to measure the doors at our house. (We're getting new ones soon—we'll be the house with the purple door, which I'm very excited about!)
I spend most of my time in my yoga gear and today I put on jeans for the first time in maybe a month because I didn't feel great about answering the door for a stranger in a sports bra. The jeans were pretty loose around the waist but always have been because of my shape. I didn't realize exactly how loose they were now until I put my belt on. I'm all the way on the last hole and it's still not as snug as I'd prefer it. That's a difference of four holes since the beginning of May! Guess I'll be investing in a new belt this week!5 -
@emmyjaykay A purple door sounds awesome! I think we finally get around to replacing our front door I am going to do a dark teal color.1
-
Jealous of your doors! the townhouse row I live in all have brown doors but the row across the street have red doors and I'm always coveting their doors. (But not enough to do something about it)1

I dug through my closet, and found a shirt from the first 5k I ever ran in 2013. It was too small then, and even though I've never been able to wear it, I've never gotten rid of it. So I tried it on... and it fits. I'd like a little more space in it for extra comfort, but I could 100% wear this out in public and not think twice about it.5

that's a great NSV! I was happy when I did the same and dug out clothes that I hadn't parted with even though they were too small only find that I could wear them now.2 -
It's always a great thing when grab something out of the closet that was unwearable (without looking like a stuffed sausage), and it fits. I've organized my closet in descending order of size and periodically try the next smallest size and sometimes I can wear it! It's like going shopping and buying new clothes!

Yes! It has been pretty fun. I don't have much more hidden away, except one cute sundress that I don't know if I ever wore. I got it zipped up the other day, but I think a few more pounds before it is actually comfortable to wear. I'm going to be a little annoyed if I don't get a chance to wear it!
Now if we ever go back into the office I'll be in trouble... I've lost probably 20 lbs since we started teleworking in March, and my work clothes were already getting too big then. I don't think they'll stay up at this point. But with COVID, I can't exactly go and try things on at the store. So I currently have no idea what size I am, what brands/stores I can shop in, and what will fit. At least for the foreseeable future, I get to keep wearing pajamas all day1 -

Yeah, I've lost so much weight that I had to give up most of my work clothes. I did get a few more dress clothes for church. And now my employer has pushed back the return to work date to 1/11/2021, so there's no point in working on replacing them now!
Though TBH, I notice that the people I work with all just wear jeans in the office. I had been wearing dress pants because at one point I worked in the main head quarters, but I'm thinking when january gets here, I'm going to go with the flow and just use jeans as I have enough of them1 -

I used Prime Wardrobe a lot to help me figure out my sizes. My fat brain made me keep ordering sizes that were too large for me.2 -
@NovusDies has a great idea there. You can also use services like Stitch Fix and Trunk Club if you want to try out a few different sizes.2
-
@bmeadows380 - I keep having to tell myself that I shouldn't replace them yet too! We are teleworking indefinitely at this point, so there really is no point of getting something that will fit me now...if we don't go back until the end of the year or later, it certainly won't fit by then. Though that didn't stop me from getting a cute work dress on PoshMark (I gambled on the size and got a L, figuring it might be small, and I could shrink into it by the time I need it).
@NovusDies and @emmyjaykay - Those are great ideas. I've felt a little lost, as I'm currently at the small end of plus sizes (14W) and no idea how straight sizes would fit me (particularly pants...I have giant legs at any weight!). Normally I'd be having a field day at the thrift store, but I've settled for finding used clothes on PoshMark or ThredUp instead. Great for the discount, but not for comparing multiple sizes. I haven't tried Prime Wardrobe or Stitch Fix, but I love that idea: try new brands/sizes/styles, return what doesn't fit, and get a nice outfit or two in the process.
In the meantime, I continue to rock the universal work from home look, which I've dubbed the Vertical Mullet: Business on the top, (pajama-) party on the bottom.0 -
I may have had a break through. Maybe. I very rarely get on the scale. Anyways, Last time I weighed myself I was 192.3. Two days ago it was 200.4 and my reaction was.. eh, it must be water weight or something. Yay!!!!! I didn't freak out. (and the next day I started my period so that explained everything)4

Today I pulled out my dress pattern to make my reward dress. Last time I had made this particular pattern I was a size 22 bust to 26 waist/hips with this designer. So I pull out my measuring tape just to be sure of the size and I'm pretty solidly an 18! I even briefly flirted with making a 14/16 size because of the amount of ease in the pattern, but I want to make sure it fits nicely now. I've lost 3 inches off my stomach at the belly button in the last month and a half. Feeling good today!8
-
Both a scale and non scale victory. Scale said 210 this morning! I have officially lost all the COVID weight I gained!
I am also wearing a size 16 jeans today. Even at my lowest I was still in an 18. Guess this time I am loosing belly fat! I'll take it.6 -

I pulled my shorts on this morning and didn’t tie the waist...as I walked across the room they fell down to my ankles!...2

It doesn't count unless you do it outside like I did!!
Kidding of course.
Try not to get in the habit of using your arms as suspenders. It is unpleasant.1 -
This is my favorite to date. My A1C is 5.3 without medication!!!8

@papayahed That’s absolutely incredible! Way to take your health in your hands!! 🎉2

Ccricofo thanks for the idea of organizing my clothes closet based on size. I think I have clothes ranging from size 26 to 18. I am now wearing size 22. It is a good thing that I am a seamstress (part time), and have scaled down some of the items that are now too large. It feels so good to say that! I love celebrating those NSVs! I treat myself every time I lose an additional 10% from the scale. Last time was a pedicure. The next gift to myself is a parfum I have had my eye on. It smells divine, and I deserve it.3
-
I was uncomfortable in a baggy shirt the other day. That is a non scale victory and a fat brain victory.4

I know that @bmeadows380 has mentioned not really believing she's really the size she is. I might have the same issue. I've been wearing size 22 pants/jeans from Catherines. I've long believed that Catherines is one of the worst offenders for vanity sizing, so I've always figured I'm a 24 or higher in any other brand. Well, I now also have jeans in size 22 that came from Walmart. Yesterday I was at Target looking at some jeans and the 22s kind of looked like they would fit, but I talked myself out of it and got the size 24........they're too big. I guess I really do wear size 22, at least when it comes to plus-sized brands! (Although I am still convinced that ALL of them are vanity sized. There's just no way these hips are a true size 22.)3
