Well... it was at least "not terrible" news. lol.
I was going to wait until later to get this knee checked but I realized since it was definitely on my road map I needed to know so I could plan for it.1 -
Ok, in the last two days I have received a compliment each day on my improved health (weight loss).
Not generally being a person that receives positive comments I did not know how to react when each of my friends noticed that I'm looking better than I did a year ago. I post this in the NSV thread because it has been awhile since the scale has trended downwards but I've kept swimming, golfing, and walking and owning my lifestyle commitment.
It was affirming to me to hear that I look healthier.
P.S. I've settled on a reply when faced with a compliment, "Thank you!" is all that is needed.7 -
It's strange how we find it hard to accept compliments, this is hard work a lot of the time so take it and be pleased with your progress. Well done1

That is a good NSV even if it feels a bit awkward. Also it seems like you have a good strategy for all the future ones you are likely to get.
I am okay with direct compliments like "you are looking better" or similar. I find comments about pride either felt by someone else (for some reason) or that I should be feeling to be odd. It actually just happened yesterday. My FiL told me he was proud of me for losing so much weight. I know people say that all the time but in literal terms it makes no sense to me. Last week I was also told I should be proud of myself. I don't spend a lot of energy on pride in the first place but secondly I am not done losing weight so why would I be proud of a job not yet finished? I am not saying that other people should not be proud of every pound they lose but I am not wired that way. I have had 4 people take time to try and convince me I should be proud. Why is this important to them? I am happy with the progress I have made, can't that be enough? Again, I am not passing judgment on how others should feel but I do not want to get ahead of myself. I just want to do me without being lectured. Sorry for the rant.3 -
Learn to love yourself and live in the present. Don’t put off what you can do today until tomorrow.
Learn to love the process of becoming a healthier you. It’s ok to accept complements and take pride in your progress and your commitment to yourself.
Be sure to ask yourself powerful questions and review your answers regularly. Why do I want to lose my excess weight? What will be different when I lose all my excess weight? What will be the same?1 -
I've loved reading these. My NSV's started with the scale
I'm a happier person. I know it's not a given that being a decent BMI will make the world smell of roses but I am so enjoying my efforts to get there. For the last 5 years I've had a benign brain tumour and spend most of my time in a wheelchair - I'd fully convinced myself that I couldn't do anything remotely linked to exercise. At all. I'm surrounded by love & support (& over protection) and my employers are excellent so I always have people to do this and that for me. I had no reason to move if I didn't want to. My house is full of electric equipment to help me move so I didn't even have to put any real effort into showering and getting in bed.
I ate like a demon and any social events revolved around food. My favourite meal was an all-you-can-eat. And I did.
My rock bottom was being told in April I needed a new wheelchair as I'd gotten too wide & heavy for my current one and it was massive! I'd struggle to fit it through regular doorways and getting it in and out of the car would be impossible. I told them to give me a month and I'd lose weight to get under the weight limit of 20st / 280lbs (I was 287lbs). I didn't have any real idea how to do this but panicked and thought I'd figure it out later
That was 45lbs ago. I'm now walking the best I have in a long long time - not far, fast or for long by anyone else's standards but excellent for me. I do chair yoga twice a week and I go on the elliptical 3 x 20 mins a week. My RHR was 84 - it's now 65! I now have faith in my body and it's (dis)abilities and I'm happy to push myself to see what I can do.
I know how to eat healthily and to cook properly. I'm finding myself loving foods I've never had before. I'm more social and don't find excuses to stay in. I also stumbled on mindfulness and that's probably been the main driver keeping me motivated when times have been hard. I love it! I'm a mum, wife, daughter and friend again and not just 'the girl in the wheelchair'.
I'm excited to lose more weight so I can be more myselfThat's gotta be the best NSV out there.

Labor Day weekend I hit up a sale at Peter Harris and bought a bunch of 2xl shirts to "grow into" (shrink into?). The first of them fit this morning4
-
@merph518 I have a few X’s to go, but I am excited for you.1
-
@Satisfiedwithbetter Thanks. I started out at 4xl, in some of the looser-fitting range of that size, threatening to need a 5xl. Dropped 2 shirt sizes now, fitting into looser 2xl shirts and 4 sizes of pants so far.1
-
I’ve gone from 6xl to 5xl and loose 4xl, plus 6”s in the waist.2
-
I haven’t lost any sizes because I had every piece of clothing I owned stretched to the max!....at least now my clothes are looser and seams aren’t popping!3
-
You will in time, Connie!1

My nsv this past week, I was able to buy pants at Walmart, that fit, and aren't too tight, that are 2xl. I used to be in (nearly bursting) 3xls, I probably should have been in 4xls, but I'm stubborn like that.3

Some great results here, well done everyone.
I had a clothes related one this week too, I bought a new jacket from the high street rather than a plus size store.
I'm currently wearing, mostly, a UK size 20, down from a 24/26.2
