Thanks! I've been working really hard on making my goals. Sure, I don't see why intervals wouldn't work on a stationary bike. It will just be different because you will have to increase the speed yourself, instead of the machine doing it for you.
On the treadmill, I'll walk for a minute or two, then run for as long as I can, which is anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 minute. Then I repeat that for however long I can manage it. I sometimes vary the speed.
Today I did a couple of intervals at 5.5 mph, I could only keep that up for about 20 seconds-definitely have to work my way up to longer.2 -

Thanks! I've been working really hard on making my goals. I am enjoying getting better sleep while I'm off. I get to sleep at night tonight, then back to work tomorrow.
Sounds like you are really busy with your boys' hockey tournaments! It does sound stressful but as you say, there are the positives too. They do get to learn a lot in playing sports.2 -

I think I slept a little too much yesterday afternoon. I woke up around 2:30 in the morning to use the bathroom, then couldn't get back to sleep. Was awake probably an hour or so before I fell asleep again.
I had two NSV's today:
I'm able to take my jeans off without unzipping or unbuttoning them. Yah! They're too big in the waist already. I'm going to have to check my closet for the next size down to see if they fit. I should probably measure myself again soon.
I went past the restaurant where I get the salad, soup and hot fudge cake. I thought about pulling in and getting it but knew it would put me over my limit and I wouldn't make my fruit and veggie goals if I did. I drove past and went to a different restaurant where I got their grilled chicken dinner, which comes with roasted potatoes, broccoli and a dinner salad. I took it home to eat and added my fruits to the salad.4 -

There's no shame in getting help from Overeaters Anonymous or from wherever you need to get it from. It may be hard to go to the first meeting but make yourself go anyway. You will probably learn something from the others that are there.
Even though I already do know what I should be doing, I don't always do it. I saw a dietitian a couple of years ago to get some help and I am still getting help now from my trainer at the gym. I log my food, water and exercise with pen and paper and give it to my trainer each week to help me with the accountability.2 -
@tryingagain5 I am going to try the intervals on the bike. What awesome NSVs too! I bet you may be at least a size or maybe even two down. I also know that is one of your favorite treat meal so it is awesome that you went for the healthy option! Great job!

I hope so! I'm planning to measure myself tomorrow too. I think it was October the last time I did that. That is my favorite treat meal. I haven't gotten it now for several weeks. I think the meal I got from the other restaurant is becoming another fast favorite. Thanks! I'm impressed I went with the healthier option too. I've been working really hard on it.

I had an epiphany while listening to the podcast yesterday. I am not sure which one since I jump around the podcasts. She was explaining how the brain works. To paraphrase basically your brain works to make things into a routine for us. That is why there are so many things we do unconsciously. The brain is going to fight us when we try to change a habit or routine. So we need to reinforce the new behavior instead of giving in and cementing the old behavior. Just like that little ball in the sand Cyndie had posted a while back. I am posting that post again for everyone to look at again. Changing direction in your life is hard and I will use the following analogy to explain why. Imagine if you will.... a giant sand hill.
At the top of the hill, there is a giant metal ball. You push that ball down the left side of the hill and it creates a small groove in the sand. Next time when you are at the top of the hill with the same ball, you push it to the left and it is easier to push and follows the same path. Over time you hardly have to touch the ball and it goes into the groove that is now a lot deeper and the sand has become really packed down, almost like cement. The groove to the left becomes a well worn path and the ball cruises effortlessly down the hill that way.
Now imagine that you're at the top of the hill and you want to start the ball rolling down the right side instead. The first time you roll it, you really have to push hard to get it started - even harder than you did when you first started to roll the ball down the left side. The balls momentum, the worn path to the left, has been cemented in by years of repetition. The ball automatically wants to go that way. But you have decided that you want the ball to go to the right. With much expended energy, you push hard to the right and the ball rolls down the right side, starting a new groove.
The second time you push the ball to the right, it becomes a little easier. Over time, the groove on the left side starts to refill with sand and the groove on the right starts to get cemented in. After the 4th or 5th time of pushing the ball down the right side, you get tired. After all, you have had to work twice as hard to make this new groove on the right. You are not only creating a new groove on the right but also changing the balls tendency to want to automatically go to the left - like it had done for years. You have worked WAY harder creating this new groove than you had worked when you started this ball rolling journey in the first place. You assume that because you have been rolling it down the right side for some time now that it will just automatically roll toward the right. You just let the ball go. Because the groove on the left was very deep, very compacted and had been created over years, the ball automatically takes the path of least resistance and also very quickly creates original groove on the left without any problem.
In order to make true change you need grit. Grit is consistency, tenacity, and perseverance. You must have grit to change the direction of the ball. It is the only way to truly change course. Eventually, the groove on the left with disappear and the easy path will now be on the right. Just keep pushing that ball down the right side of the hill.
