New restrictions in Baltimore City:
The following rules go into effect in Baltimore on Thursday:
All indoor and outdoor facilities, including restaurants, theaters, malls, casinos, entertainment venues, event spaces and religious facilities, should not exceed 25% of their usual maximum capacity.
Bars that are not licensed to sell food must shut down.
Restaurants and other food service establishments must halt indoor dining by 10 p.m.
Gatherings at homes are limited to 10 people.0 -

DH finally opened his mind to actually deciding between replacing and repairing the furnace. In "normal" times I completely agree that spending money on repair would be foolish. But these aren't normal times. It just so happens that we would have to completely clean out the furnace room and move a huge stock of food that wouldn't ordinarily be here (and put it all where? this house is overflowing with supplies) and sequester cats who've been sequestered too often recently. I finally managed to tip the scales in favor of repair by agreeing we'd use any future stimulus money to repay the budget.
I'm working on CROM paperwork this weekend. I'm SO far behind but I'm digging in and making good progress!0 -

Miracles do happen! When President-elect speaks to Congress as President, he will have two women backing him or sitting behind him: Nancy Pelosi and Kamala Harris. I am with Maryanne, there is joy in knowing that we apparently will have a woman vice president.0

It’s a glorious day. I love seeing people dancing and celebrating across from the White House. Sanity prevailed. So what will Trump’s legacy be? Will he accept the inevitable and call Biden to congratulate him and concede. Or will he be remembered as the sore loser who had to be dragged kicking and screaming from the White House. I hope his minions remind him of that but I don’t expect he can accept reality.0

With millions of people largely stuck at home, book sales are up this year. But much of that shopping is happening online, and independent bookstores across the United States have rushed to reinvent themselves even as they watched their sales crater. The American Booksellers Association said recently that more than one independent bookstore has closed every week since the pandemic began.
Among the stores struggling most are the larger independents, which have higher expenses for space and staffing and need more sales to keep going. They also tend to be more reliant on events like readings and signings for their revenue. The Strand usually hosts about 400 events a year.
In their place, the store has done online readings and is experimenting with offerings like a Book of the Month program and boxes of “book hookup” surprise titles, which are grouped by genre. The store is also providing private guided tours of its rare books collection, a staff expert to curate and stock home libraries, and “books by the foot” sold as decorative space filler in the new era of bookshelves as Zoom backdrops.

I loved Biden's speech last night. I also loved how the gatherings across the nation were peaceful. Truly a historic moment with Kamala Harris being apparent vice president-elect. Her speech was inspirational to young women.0

Jean, I remarked to DH on the same thing. We witnessed a lot of joy last night and no violence. The country may have a long ways to find common ground but it feels like everyone is taking a deep breath. Every news report I see mentions Trump is still claiming he won but they are prefacing that by saying his comments are baseless, false and other variations of that. Van Jones, on CNN, broke down in tears saying how much Biden’s win meant to him and other Black families. Reporters strive to show an impartial face so it was wonder that he got to release all that angst and stress of the last 4 years. And how great that a man could let us see the tears and emotions he felt.0

They went back and forth between the pro Biden parties and the cheeto protests. The first crowds were masked; the second weren't.
DH talked to his (cheeto fanatic) brother today.
He still thinks COVID is fake even though both of his in-laws are fighting it.
He thinks he needs a gun.
He's convinced a nearby town had ballots that didn't list the cheeto as a choice.
DH finally managed to switch the conversation to his nieces and nephews (what the heck hope do they have coming out of that home) and his sister's son's continuing legal problems.0 -
My sister doesn’t believe Trump ever had Covid. She thinks he faked it to change the conversation away from how little paid in taxes. I think he had it but she’s right about the tax stories being overshot by his Covid. At least there are no Trumpers in my family so I can talk to them without hearing alternate reality presented as truth.0
