Maryanne--That is a good price but I'm trying to watch my expenditures. It may not last, but so far I'm doing fine with the food and exercise. Because of the age and metabolic level, I may not lose much but I'm focusing more upon healthier habits and the cardiologist wants me to exercise.

I work tomorrow so I won't be posting until the evening.

I lost a pound last week. Headed in the right direction at least.

Maryanne--Congrats upon your weight loss. I remember using those tickers. They are great visual reinforcers of the right direction you are going.

I had an eye doctor appointment today. For the past few weeks I’ve been experiencing an annoying pain in my left eye, which is the eye that had a retina detachment about 9 years ago. The doctor today confirmed that there is an issue and secured an appointment tomorrow morning with the retina specialist who did the surgery on my eye. I’m not sure yet, but I suspect it will mean another surgery on that eye to remove the “girdle” that was placed in my eye to hold the retina in place. Apparently it is rubbing against part of the conjunctiva of my eye, resulting in an extremely thin place. I don’t know if they can put something else in its place. I guess I’ll have more answers after tomorrow morning’s appointment.

In other news, my cousin who had the brain tumor and 2 subsequent surgeries is back in the hospital and not doing well. They can’t determine if he is having strokes or small seizures. So far they have run dozens of tests and scans but have no conclusions, which is extremely frustrating for all of us.

And my friend with cancer has been readmitted to the hospital. The family has not provided much information about why, only saying she has had better days and they are requesting no visitors at this time. I really feel she doesn’t have much time left.

Sorry to be such a downer, but it’s been that kind of month for me.

Don’t apologize for the negative news. It’s helpful to have a place where we can share life’s stresses and feel supported. I hope the surgeon can repair your eye. Technology has advanced so much in 9 years so he may have better options for saving your sight.

That’s sad news about your cousin and your friend. If your friend does have little time left, it’s a comfort that you were able to reach out to her while she could know you were there. I hope the doctors can figure out what’s happening with your cousin and that they have some treatment to offer.

I hope everything goes okay with the eye. I see a Hopkins retina specialist routinely and I know it's not fun but oh so important. My sister and I have both had retina issues even though neither of our parents did. Funny how much of adulthood you can say that about - not fun but necessary.

How sad for your friends and family that folks have taken a turn for the worse. All you can do is be there for those who are open to it.

I’m back from my visit with the retina specialist. He thinks the buckle that was placed in my eye may be trying to extrude itself, which may require surgery to remove it. However, he first wants to try treating it with an antibiotic steroid drop to calm down the inflammation and irritation around it before deciding whether to remove it. Apparently buckles don’t often extrude themselves, and it’s not ideal to remove it, but there’s a risk of it puncturing the conjunctiva of my eye if it continues trying to work its way out.

I just spoke with my sister and got some news about our cousin. At this point the infectious disease team is consulting on his case and they think he has possibly contracted Legionnaire’s Disease, or a lung disease common to people who lived near the Cincinnati River. My cousin was born and lived all but the last 10 years or so of his life in the Cincinnati area, so this fits. I think the disease is known as Histoplasmosis. They are still waiting for tests to confirm this, but seem fairly sure of the diagnosis. He continues to grow weaker and it looks like he won’t be able to return home without first going to a skilled nursing or rehab facility for awhile. His daughters think he will not agree to that without a fight, but I’m hoping he will be reasonable and realize that his wife wouldn’t be physically able to provide all of the care he will need until he regains his strength.

It’s a cold, wet, rainy day here today. I guess winter has finally arrived.

Pam - I'm glad your eye doctor has a plan!!

I hope your cousin agrees to do what he needs to do. Men can be so stubborn!!

I've been trying to track down a cousin to send a sympathy card on the loss of his mother. After my mom's death I sort of lost close touch with that side of the family. And I didn't worry about keeping in touch with this particular cousin after I heard he tried to get his parents to disinherit his sister because she's adopted. His sister's address I have and have sent her my sympathies.

Alex Cross TV series in the works: https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/alex-cross-tv-series-amazon-james-patterson-1203475996/

    May or may not watch.

I should be excited about the Harry Bosch series - because I love those books - but I just can't get into a series that's essentially one long story. I want 2 hours max on any given story. There I said it. I'm old!

Pam--I do hope your eye doctor's plan works out. I haven't heard of Legionnaire's in a long time but I do hope your cousin follows the recommendations.

Maryanne--Talking about a series that is one long story, I stumbled across "Manhunt--The Unabomber" on Netflix. Apparently this series "Manhunt" focuses upon one notorious person per season. It involved 8 episodes but I really enjoyed seeing the hunt unfold.

I have no idea what I weigh but my clothes are getting loose. A male student asked me today what I was doing as it looked as if I had lost a lot of weight. It is likely an optical illusion but it was nice hearing someone notice a possible weight lost.

Jean, that’s fantastic that a student noticed your weight loss! Sometimes we really can’t see it ourselves because we get so focused on the fluctuations and don’t notice the overall downward trend. Your efforts are paying off!

I don't know about an illusion. I'd think it would take a lot for a student to notice!

Jean, that’s impressive that a student noticed the loss. I would think it must be 10 pounds to show. So far, I haven’t had any comments yet and I’m down 25 pounds. I think part of it is I’m wearing the same clothes. They have gotten baggy so the loss doesn’t show. One correction...my sister did mention my pants looked baggy. I’ve asked DH if it showed and showed him my driver’s license photo. It’s 18 month’s old and the loss shows in my face.

Pam, that’s good that your doctor has a plan for your eye. I hope the steroid drop helps. Does he think you’ll still need surgery after the inflammation is gone?

Maryanne, the Bosch series are only about 8 episodes and it’s great to binge watch. I think you’d like it if you watched a couple episodes so you got into the story.

I've got it on my tablet so I should give it another try. I do like Bosch!

The bluetooth headphones I was using on my tablet while on the treadmill died. I don't like what I first ordered to replace them. While I await for my replacement to arrive, I'm using regular TV and my TV headphones. I stayed on the treadmill without much thought for 25 minutes last night. I was definitely more engrossed in the program than I was the last 2 weeks watching my 600-lb life. Hmmmmm....... I was watching something "on demand" so no ability to fast forward through commercials so I didn't even have to fret that I wasn't doing that. Maybe I'll have to mix and match the tv and tablet to keep myself interested and on the treadmill. I'd like to eventually routinely do 30 minutes 6 days a week.

Well, bolden by the student's comment about apparent weight loss, I decided to get on the scales this morning. Big mistake! I am up two pounds. My whole day was ruined, compounded by a full day lock down at school.

Oh, good heavens! When it rains it pours. I take it nothing bad actually happened at school?

Maybe your exercise is building muscle?

The Linda Spangle emails have a definite advantage over doing her books. I sit here multiple times a day and do emails (personal, work and CROM) so opening hers a couple times a day and reading is easy. I probably won't do the writing exercises.

I did 25 minutes on the treadmill last evening. I've also started a new routine at the grocery store. A lap around the store, walk every aisle whether I need to or not, then a final lap around the store.

I started a truly bizarre my 60-lb life. A huge man in Kentucky who had two children with his "girlfriend" while she was still married. Her husband had no idea they weren't his apparently. She finally left the husband and they apparently told the children who their real father is. He's now become bedridden, with legs that look like they are rotting off. His caretakers are his girlfriend and his daughter (daughter is NOT a happy camper, who can blame her??). They are trying to fund raise to go to Houston. I thought the show paid? Anyway that's how far I got in 25 minutes!

The man is seriously unhinged. Case in point:

"You know, we have to protect Thomas Edison and we have to protect all of these people that -- came up with originally the light bulb and -- the wheel and all of these things." -- Trump

What the hell??? I alternate between thinking he’s unhinged or an idiot. Or both.

    I vote both.

I bought a bunch of South Beach apple cinnamon muffin mixes at Ollie’s. It’s a store like Big Lots. At forty nine cents a package, how could I lose? I had one this morning. You make it in a mug after adding water to the mix. It was a little dry but it actually had apple pieces in it. It was 160 calories and surprisingly filling. It reminded me of some of the NS breakfast items I used to buy.

We were at a volunteer reception at church last night. They were showing slides taken through the year of volunteers doing various things. There was a photo of me at the ministry fair from last January. We were looking for additional choir members. The difference in my weight really showed from that photo. I didn’t realize how heavy I looked until I saw the photo. I’m glad I decided to start over last May. Seeing the difference really motivated me.

"Both" works for me! I'm bored by the impeachment trial because I just don't get why anyone would hesitate to say "OUT WITH THE IDIOT" if given the chance.

I have a bunch of the south beach muffin mixes (apple cinnamon and chocolate). Like you I thought it was a little dry but it's a decent change. NS also now has a bunch of things you make in mugs. I accidentally stumbled on what I think is the perfect mug for that at the grocery store recently. I spray with Pam and pop out whatever I nuked.

Helene that's great that you have before and (somewhat) after photos!
