November 13th. The meal replacement is pre-surgery. Afterwards it's clear liquids for a couple days, then full liquids for the remainder of the first 2 weeks post op, then a couple weeks of pureed/soft food diet. I am scouring the 'net for a good cream.of chicken soup recipe I can doctor up2 -
Soon! Sounds like you are going to be fully prepared. Can you include jello (gelatin) in your days of clear liquids?1

Sugar-free jello, yeah. And fortunately I love it. Stocking up on lime, orange and black cherry.3 -
I didn't know they had black cherry!

My body didn’t get the memo that we got an extra hour of sleep due to time change. So I was up an hour earlier today than needed. Decided to make a pot roast in the crock pot. Little bit of onion and potatoes and carrots. Looking forward to dinner tonight!2

Sounds like you made the best of the situation!

What to eat on days in November when it’s 85+ degrees? Obviously not soup weather. Looks like the end of the week and future looks more promising for “winter” foods. This might explain why I’m eating yogurt and cereal for dinner!1

Oh my oh my oh my.... I had a long long long ago frozen commercial pumpkin pie sitting in the freezer. I took it apart! FROZEN! With a pair of knives and other instruments! Separated the crust from the insides! Logged the difference for the day... because let's face it we all knew that all of the 1300 Calories that were left were going to get eaten! (Turfed the crust pieces. Logged the inside of pie at the full pie calories per gram so definitely didn't underestimate given that the crust has comparatively more calories per gram).
One of the pie sections (the top/over the crust edge more cooked part) was consumed during deconstruction. Some was consumed after it has mostly thawed like crust less pie.... but about HALF got mixed into half a can of pure pumpkin (not pie mix can but pure pumpkin). With three drops of sucralose. And a bit of pumpkin spice... and a bit of pure cinnamon. AND... some greek yogurt! The yogurt helped round up the macros a bit!
Near the end of the day caved a bit and added variety with about 600 Cal of chili and baked potato at Wendy's while saving some of the pumpkin "mix" for today The mix was better today than it was yesterday. I mean not as good as the undiluted inside of the pie.. but definitely NOT terrible. Split the logging of the Wendy stuff with today. Oh well. It is all the same person and I wasn't wildly over/under anyway.
The adventure continues!1 -
Well at least there were a few veggies in the mix!1

CONNIE !!!!!!!
Did you read that???!!!!!2 -
Mine is exciting. I have bronchitis, so my diet is:
Copious hot herbal tea.
Fishermans's friend and sugar-free honey throat lozenges.
Albuterol inhaler.
Solumedrol.
Azithromycin (antibiotic which is super nice on my pretty empty belly)
All the Sudafed and Mucinex DM I can legally consume.
A new cough syrup to try in the morning because Saturday and Sunday night sleeps were of little to no value.
3 meal replacement shakes a day, to which I add decaf instant coffee granules, 50ml of fairlife skim milk, and ice and water so it blends up thicker for a better mouth-feel.4 -
Wow that’s a lot to deal with Nic. Hope it all gets better before your surgery!1

Today is a crazy day. We are doing our big plan meetings for next years finances. Each meeting is multiple hours long (how long depends on the department). I tried to eat something this morning because this meeting goes right through lunch time, but I have been trying NOT to eat in the morning so my stomach did not want anything. So I ate less then half a banana.
Dinner will be some pan grilled chicken breast, some fettuccini alfredo (freezer type from Trader Joes), and then will have either a salad or some frozen broccoli. I was supposed to make that last night but ended up not being hungry until later so skipped it.
Saturday I am taking a trip to do some stocking up, which includes a trip to a giant HMart. Thus next weeks meals are ALL Asian. Fresh tuna poke bowl, beef Bibimbap (with extra veggies), a veggie tofu stir fry (fingers crossed the tofu doesn't cause a flare), and my favorite chicken hibachi bowls.
Also going to Aldi, Walmart, and an Indian grocery. Maybe Target (but may just to Walmart- want to go there to look for a xmas tree. Normally I hate Walmart.).2 -
Meetings! I recall how much I hated those endless meetings. 😤 hope yours are going smoothly and quickly Athijade. Can you bring some discreet snacks to the meetings if you can’t face breakfast?
Your all-Asian food week sounds fabulous. 💕1 -
So Tuesday was the first Tuesday of the month.
So 10% off at Safeway if one is buying more than $50.
And Crave frozen dinners (ranging from 380 to 570 calories each. With only a few veggies and a bit high in fat mainly due to sauce /cheese).... they were on sale @ CAD$2.99 each when buying 2+
so let's call them $2.69 each after the 10%
And when buying six you got a thousand scene points per half dozen. These are worth $10 on your next grocery bill if you want to cash them out.
So let's see...
That would be $16.15 for six (normal price for, at best, four) and I get back $10.
So $1.025 for each microwave tray ”dinner"
Hmmm ..
I wonder why a couple of dozen little boxes have taken up residence next to the bags of veggies in my freezer🤔🤔🤔🤷♂️0 -
But PAV are those little frozen dinners worth the calories and salt? Hubby - like you - can’t resist a bargain. So he often hauls in some frozen “treats” as quick meals for me. But honestly I think the majority are very disappointing. Mystery meat with overcooked second rate veggies.
The worst part is they’re too small but not very satisfying resulting in my looking for a snack immediately afterward. Doctoring the meals up is doable but that kind of defeats the whole point of the frozen meal.1 -

Thank you Yooly! I am excited for all my all Asian food week.
More meetings today. Another big one that will be 1.5 hours. I should be able to eat after the first 30 minutes or so as I could turn off my camera. May grab a quick snack of some nuts or fruit right now though cause I am HUNGRY.
I skipped the fettuccini and chicken last night and heated up some Cincinnati chili. Served that over spaghetti with onions and cheddar cheese. Not healthy at all, but hit the spot. Right now I just want to survive the week!0 -
Well I could move in with @Athijade and have variety and occasional surprise menu changes! But, @Yoolypr , while I wouldn't claim they're worth the salt, remember that I tend to start the day by nuking a 340 to 750g bag of frozen veggies. Which I add into most of my meals.
I guess the total calories come into play in terms of accommodating these dinners. They fit for me because I tend to have meals in the 700 range (500-1000) given that my days tend to be in the 2.5k range.
So calorie wise they fit. Volume wise they don't unless I add veggies.... I guess they are replacing the (ready made/instant noodle type) soups I've been throwing into the rotation and they would both be sodium bombs
Sodium wise currently nobody including "specialist" has mentioned a restriction though this may change if I ever get a diagnosis 🤷♂️3 -
Whatever works for you PAV 👍.
Funny about the salt thing - hubby’s cardiologist wants him to eat MORE salt. He has low blood pressure and if he’s not hydrated and properly salted he has dizzy spells. We have all manner of dill pickles, canned/ bottled tomato products, chips, crackers….. All of which I must avoid!
Love Cincinnati chili Athijade! Sorry about the grueling meetings. You meet for hours and then something comes up in a month to change everything. 🙄2 -
Laurie..... You made a sale for Galen!🙀😹 I fell upon pc plant-based mini chippits and on the strength of your mention and on the fact that their other plant-based goods are actually good tasting and have nothing wrong with them other than their price... Well I bought a couple! 🤷♂️🤔
So now I have plant chippits.... But no sale yogurt as they were all out! 😡2 -
Is “chippits” a Canadian term for chocolate chips? I usually can spot Canadians by the way they pronounce out (oot) and about (aboot). Also the use of the word “keen”. No one in the USA ever uses keen - probably most couldn’t define it.
Funny same language but subtle differences.1 -
Chip its more of a brand name. I would refer to them as mini chocolate chips if were weren't being specific about brand in our conversations
2 -
But - a quick look found - Hershey's calls there chocolate chips - chocolate chips on their .com site, but Chipits on their .ca site! You might be onto something, Yooly. Perhaps it is a "young 'uns" thing?2
-
Nah - chipits is definitely a Canadian thing! Never saw/heard of chipits until I saw you and PAV use it. At least I choose to think so.
I’m just fascinated by semantics and verbal differences 🤔. Like courgette (zucchini) or aubergines (eggplant) or clotted cream or castor sugar. Brits and Aussies are the most different from US but you Canadians also sneak in a few.
Then there’s the spelling differences- colour, centre, theatre….2 -
It is definitely a Canadian branding - and I think relatively recent?1
-
This one has a bit of a mystery, Yooly. My vision is great these days so I don't trust my research skills completely but I could not find anything about when the Canadian side of Hershey's took on the term Chipits and or whether or not it's a trademark and if it is when that happened.
I've honestly never used the term chipit's until this conversation with Pav... my kids don't use the term not even my grandson nor his nephews who refer them as chocolate chips...as in can he have chocolate chips in his pancakes.
It is a mystery!
PAV do you use the "Chipits" as a generic term for this ingredient or specifically when you're referring to this brand?2 -
I've only discovered them in the past few years as an item of interest and mostly got the Hershey ones ... hence chipits in my brain!
I haven't really been keen 🤣 on discusing them with anyone though until now! 😇1 -
I don't purchase them often either. I'm not a chocolate chip cookie fan - my go to when baking is oatmeal with nuts/raisins. So it we need an expert to chime in
