I wish I thought the cheeto and baby cheetos would be done making trouble in 13 days.

I read somewhere about wrap a piece of deli turkey and cheese around a pickle spear as a protein snack. I like all the components separately so I’d probably give it a shot if I had ingredients in the house.

If BLM protesters did what the Trump riot squad did, they would have been beaten, taxed and perhaps killed. It is so obvious that black people are treated and judged much more harshly. It’s horrifying to see how dangerous being black in America can be.

I miss the deli sometimes. Yet another thing to look ahead to in the "after times" if we make it that long.

Maryanne, I’m not sure about the calorie count, but what about pretzels with either cheese or peanut butter filling, or dipped in either cheese or peanut butter?

I've been faithful all week with logging food. The odd thing is that I have had no cravings this week.

No cravings is amazing. I wish I could say the same. We’ve had access to the deli counter for months. Maybe it’s because we have a smaller population?

I have vowed to conquer making pie this year. I asked for and got some tools for Christmas that will hopefully help. Today I made an apple pie. Overall I’m pleased with the appearance, but I still need to work on getting the edges to look pretty. We haven’t tasted it yet, but hopefully it will taste good.

I love pretzels and peanut but but tons of calories. Hmmm..... maybe I should revisit PB2.

Rachel Maddow was just talking about ministers, including Rev. Warnock, being arrested for praying in the capitol rotunda. What a difference from yesterday:

Pam--That pie looks great! That is something I know I don't keep around. One bite leads to another. I re-learned that last year so this year the only real desserts will be when I eat out--and usually I am so full that it is "take home." I love the Outback's carrot cake.

I am not one that gets much from the deli.

My NS order left Hagerstown last night and is out for delivery today.

    Yesterday was a typical day. I am big on protein as it satisfies me long term. I had more sodium than usual yesterday because of one item but one I don't eat frequently;

I try not to bake treats for us very often, but DH really does love dessert so I do occasionally bake something for him to enjoy. I try really hard to limit myself to very small pieces of whatever I make. Last night I had a piece of pie that was about half the size of the one he had with a very small scoop of ice cream. When I stepped on the scale this morning I was pleased to see a small loss over yesterday’s reading, so I guess I didn’t do any damage with the pie and ice cream. It won’t last long around here as DH will polish off the pie in a couple of days, probably.

Jean, those stats look good. Keep it going. When we do the deli, we buy low sodium ham for DH. He has to watch his sodium because of his heart. I rarely eat sandwiches myself but to me, I can tell the difference in the taste of the low sodium version. If I tried them side by side, the regular version would probably taste too salty.

WASHINGTON - Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07) has released the following statement concerning calls to remove President Trump from office after Wednesday’s deadly riots.

“This president is guilty of treason, sedition, and inciting a riot. His actions yesterday, and over the course of four years, have been egregious, despicable, and most of all - deliberate. For too long he’s benefitted from his cloak of immunity.

    That stops now.

I strongly support all calls to legally and constitutionally remove him from office. Working with members of the Judiciary Committee, I have cosponsored legislation to be introduced next week. This bill would not only start the impeachment process of Donald Trump, but will also permanently disqualify him from holding and enjoying any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States of America.

This president has blood on his hands.”

I have been ordering an apple crumb pie for DH every week from the one grocery store. I've never had a piece but he gives me his crust (which is still pretty daggone good).

Fake apple pie: Fix one Diet Direct pancake and top with sugar free or low sugar applesauce. I used to do that all the time for a dessert.

Some states have threatened to let other people cut ahead of health care workers in the line for shots.

(and they should if health care workers are going to balk...

Maryanne--Thank you. Before getting it, they have you fill out a questionnaire regarding any health issues plus reactions in the past. Afterwards, you have to sit 15 minutes before leaving the site. You are given a document that explains Covid-19, the vaccination process, etc. So far, I can't even tell I got a shot. My flu shot hurt more but time will tell.

Helene - from the NS site:

In Florida people over 65 can get their shots. They said on our news that people are coming in from other states. Problem is you need an appointment at most counties and if you're from out of state you'll have to make sure you can get back for your second shot. In my county all the appointments are taken. I'm hoping they open up more appointments at grocery store and maybe drug stores. Right now the main place for the shots even with an appointment it's about a 2-3 hour wait

My sister and her husband got their first vaccine last week but we are still waiting. One of my friends got hers this morning but she’s the first of my circle of friends to get one. I think I signed up the same day she did. She said the process went fairly smoothly, taking about 2 hours total. I hope to get an appointment soon.

I’ve never been very fond of pie and I think I’ve finally figured out why. My mother and most if not all of the cooks in my family always made their crust with shortening and I never thought the crust tasted good. In fact, I rarely ate it. I would eat the filling (after scraping off the meringue if it had any) and leave the crust. I still don’t like meringue and never top my pies with it. I’ve been making my crusts with butter and I actually like these crusts. Of course, neither is very good for you, but in moderation I think it’s ok.
