Kim - I am wanting to read that Jody Hedlund book! I have it on hold through libby in audio format and am hoping to get it before long.
0 -
I really liked the first one, this one is about her sister and the guy in the wheelchair! I'm going to start that one this evening.
I finished VINES OF PROMISE AND DECEIT, very good, can't wait for the third book to come out.
Feeling bad today, hoping it's just an off day, but a mild sore throat, coughing and very tired. I felt warm to the touch, but my temp was actually lower than normal - strange. Normal for me is 97.5, with the forehead thermometer it was 97.7, but with the mouth thermometer it was below normal. Odd! I actually have felt warm on the outside and cold on the inside today - hmmm??? Driving to see Mom has taken a toll on my knees, back and my thigh muscles, all very sore and it's difficult to walk. We didn't go to see Mom today and it will depend on how I feel as to whether I can go tomorrow. She kept telling us to take her home with us when we were there last time - we don't want to do that to her! She just doesn't understand that she can't come home anymore, we just can't take care of her. Just so hard seeing this vital independent woman like this.
Hope y'all are having a good weekend, have a blessed day tomorrow as you go to your worship services.0 -
I watched my 5 month old grandson last night and started The Face of the Earth by Deborah Raney while he was napping.

Of course, everyone knows that I am a huge Deborah Raney fan. There are two of her books that I haven't read and I refuse to pay the price for them. She has taken her back-list books, and her self published books to KU, but these two aren't part of that. They are available ebook from Hoopla, but I really don't like reading ebooks from them. I love their audiobooks, though. She will be publishing a new one this spring (part of Camfield Legacy series).
Currently I am reading FINDING A MEMORY by Chautona Havig (Independence Islands #19). It is pretty good. A lady ran across a diary when going through a box of donated books, and is caught up in its story.
I am listening to MRS WITHERSPOON GOES TO WAR by Mary Davis (WW2) and it is soooo good that I didn't want to turn it off to sleep. I think I re-set the sleep timer three times and wanted to just keep listening, but I was smart enough to not touch it again, or I probably would not have slept. It is definitely one of those books that the cover doesn't do justice. I probably wouldn't have checked it out if I hadn't heard good things about it.0 -
Connie, I have 11 Deborah Raney books and it looks like they are loanable. Which ones do you need?
I am re-reading a book called BEAST by Chawnda Shroeder (or something like that). It's really good, kind of an allegory. A young girl has a defect and is treated like one of her master's dogs. The only name she has ever known is Beast. Slavers attack her masters home and she is taken and brought to a city where she is to be sold. Another young girl was also taken and she reassures Beast that her father will buy her out of her slavery as well - but that doesn't happen. The man who buys her uses her as prey on a hunt and she does what no other has done, with the help of one of the men who helped capture her (a good man sent to help the other little girl and protect her) she is able to escape. The girl and her father find her, and he is known as Majesty, and he wants to make her his daughter. They try to get her to understand that she is worthy and she isn't a beast but a little girl, but she's been abused all her life and just doesn't feel that she is worth anything, and especially not being Majesty's daughter. As the story goes on she finds she is stronger and more able than she realized. It's just a very interesting story.
I did start the Jody Hedlund time travel story, and so far so good.0 -
Oh - I never thought about the possibility of a loan. I keep an eye on her books, but have never seen a good price on these two. If all else fails, I will probably check them out of hoopla ebook...I just don't like using the application for ebooks and save my borrows for audio. Of course, I can always use Bill's hoopla account or one of the other libraries if I run out of borrows.
The two I don't have are part of the Chicory Inn series
4. Close to Home (2016) by Deborah Raney
5. Home At Last (2017) be Deborah Raney
0 -
I have Finally Home, but neither of the two you mentioned. Bummer!
I've been able to use Hoopla, but my other library sites won't work until I get a PIN for my library card. I was using it earlier in the year, but for some reason they suddenly want a pin, and I don't have one! I need to call the library and find out how to get one, but I haven't wanted a book bad enough to go to that trouble. They don't have much of what I want to read anyway! Hoopla has more than my library has.
I finished BEAST and am reading another by her, but the title escapes me.0 -
Thanks for checking, Kim. It was a good idea. I will get them someday, someway. I just double checked Libby and they have the first three in the series, but not those last two. I have enough stuff right now to last me for a few days (or years), so nothing I am anxious about.
Current:
UNTIL LEAVES FALL IN PARIS by Sarah Sundin (WW2) - Just a few minutes into it, but will be good.
An Idaho Christmas: Past and Present -KU
A CHRISTMAS ANGEL by Robin Lee Hatcher (historical) - I finished this one quickly - very short
A CLOUD MOUNTAIN CHRISTMAS by Robin Lee Hatcher (contemporary) - Just getting started on this one, but it seems like it will be good.
Finished:
MRS WITHERSPOON GOES TO WAR by Mary Davis (WW2) Best book of the year, so far. I was surprised.
FINDER OF FORGOTTEN THINGS by Sarah Loudin Thomas (historical) - Very good, very different. It was about a water diviner that was a bit of a confidence man.

There are so many authors offering free audiobooks on YouTube, now. Evidently there is money to be had, especially if they get at least 1000 subscribers. I don't understand it, but I have enjoyed a few. Yesterday I listened to a couple of short ones by Lindzee Armstrong. They were ones that she had taken out of circulation and decided to add. Evidently she has re-written, lengthened and re-named them, but I enjoyed. They both had one light slang word that I noticed.
TWISTERS AND TEXTBOOKS by Lindzee Armstrong (romance) YouTube
FIRST LOVE SECOND CHOICE by Lindzee Armstrong (romance) YouTube
TOGETHER FOR GOOD by Melanie Dobson (family drama) - This one wasn't YouTube, but hoopla. I have really become a fan of her books. This one was very good.
Current:
IN SEARCH OF A PRINCE by Toni Shiloh (royalty) - A bit of a different twist on a royalty book. So far, very good. I always enjoy her books.
DEADLY RIVER PURSUIT by Heather Woodhaven (LI susp) - I haven't read in it for a while. Yesterday, I just did the audiobooks. I will get to it later.

Connie, are those books you borrow, or get to put on your device for free? How do we find it?
Fell asleep early last night so didn't get a whole lot of reading done. I finished THE VAULT BETWEEN SPACES by Chawna Schroeder which is a spiritual battle type story. I didn't like that some of her "angels" exhibited not so nice human emotions or attitudes and that God wasn't viewed as Sovereign in parts of the story. Overall I enjoyed the book, it was just near the end when these other "angels" came into play that it fell off for me.
I re-started one that I had barely begun earlier and didn't get very far before I fell asleep, I couldn't even tell you what happened in it, but it's an LI suspense with a baby and Christmas.0 -
Kim - you listen online when you are ready. I have a list of authors that I have been finding...mostly from email, but some on Facebook. If you subscribe to their channel they are easier to find, and how they make their money. I also started to actually download one and it wanted me to start a free trial of something to do that. By just listening online, it doesn't do that.

Oh and I just finished listening to IN SEARCH ON A PRINCE by Toni Shiloh. Wow! That narration was amazing and I loved the book. The accents were incredible. I can't imagine that reading it could be nearly as good.0
-
That books sounds interesting, Connie. I looked on my Hoopla, but they just have the e-book. I have it on my Amazon wish list.
I got TRUE VALOR on my mind the other day and found I didn't own it - but, Hoopla had the audio version so I downloaded that and started listening to it last night. I really need to read and listen to the ones I've already downloaded, but I've been so tired at night I just don't want to have to figure anything new out. I have a few new ones I've downloaded from KU so when we get Mom figured out I will work on those.
Mom is still at the far away place. It turns out that the place we want her to be isn't working as hard to get her there. They are going to wait until Monday to work on getting her there. They say they don't have the paperwork, but the place she is at has sent it to them. She said she will do it all again when they are ready - but I am going to talk to another place this afternoon and see if there is any hope of getting her in there. There are memory centers that have a "1 person move" rule, and mom is a two person move, although she's lost so much weight that one person could move her now. We are considering bringing her home and just trying to care for her here. She's fallen two more times (a total of six times) where she is. They are going to put a fall mat down by her bed and lower the bed as far as it will go so when she tries to leave the bed she won't fall very far and it will be on a soft surface. It's crazy, it's against the law for nursing homes to use any kind of restraint (seat belts on wheelchairs, bars on the beds, even tucking in the sheets is restraint). We can keep her from falling at home, but we can't take care of her medical needs. Sigh, it's very frustrating. Anyway, sure would appreciate your prayers that where the Lord wants her to be, they would be willing.0 -
Oh my, Kim. I don't understand why you are having all of the problems, but I do know that when and where your Mom is supposed to be, it will work out. God knows the entire situation, even when we don't understand.
Kim - I got IN SEARCH ON A PRINCE through Scribd while I still have my free trial. If you decide you want to do it, just let me know and I can get you a 60 day free trial. I won't pay for it past what I can get free, but it does have some pretty good books. This was one that I had really wanted to read, but was excited to see the audio there, so I took it off my wishlist on libby.
Currently I am listening to WHEN THE LAST ROSE BLOOMS by Ashley Clark (split-time). I am having a little bit of a problem keeping up with the different times on this one. Usually I love the split-time, but I think I have just been distracted and haven't really been able to really get into it. I will probably back it up a little bit and try again tonight. It is dealing with slavery and current day, along with snippets in early 1900s and during Hurricane Katrina.0 -
It's really strange, Connie. The admissions guy at the near place was fighting to help us get her in there, and suddenly it feels like he's not interested in helping us. You are so right, God knows where He wants her to be and He will open the doors. We feel like we are between a rock and a hard place, we can keep her safe from falls, but we can't take care of her medical issues (insulin, pain meds, iv's when she's dehydrated, etc...) and as her liver progresses to fail she is going to need even more help; the places we want to send her can't keep her safe from falls but can take care of all her medical needs. She's fallen six times where she is. They've finally implemented some things to keep her from hurting herself when she does fall (a fall mat, lowering her bed, and moving furniture out of the way). We'll get there eventually. Thanks so much everyone for your prayers.
I am really enjoying NEVER LEAVE ME by Jody Hedlund. It gets a bit steamy in one place which surprised me, but doesn't go over the line. We'll see how it goes from here.
Still working on re-reads as well.
Oh, time to get my hair cut. Talk to you later.0 -
Kim- I have that audiobook on hold...and have had for a LONG time (before release date). It says 3 weeks, now.
Finished:
COLLISION OF WILLS by Evangeline Kelly (romance)
PROMISE OF PEACE by Juliette Duncan
WHEN THE LAST ROSE BLOOMS by Ashley Clark (split-time) - this wound up very good. I was pretty sure it was just me being distracted.
Current:
FOUNDATION OF LOVE by Amy Clipston (Amish)
I haven't started on an ebook. I have found that I am getting a bit burned out on romantic suspense and that is pretty much all I have checked out. I have been reading a few that I already have, but need to find a few just romance or women's fiction on KU for a while.
0 -
Okay, NEVER LEAVE ME is into a part where there's a lot of "lust" going on between the characters. Ugh! Okay, here's a vent: cover up ladies, dress modestly. In this story she's wearing a dress above her knee and one shoulder is uncovered. Now, the author has it right, he's looking at her legs and he's wanting to kiss that shoulder - he has to turn his back on her so he can get his thoughts under control - yeah, that's what dressing like that does to a man! Yeah, you are responsible. That's why we are told to dress modestly in the Word, so we don't cause anyone to stumble! I went to a "Christian" school graduation and most of the girls there were wearing shoulderless short dresses. If you were just passing by you would have thought you were outside a night club or bar! Seriously. Just 'cause the world says it's the thing to wear doesn't mean that we as Christian women should. Okay, end of vent! Enough with the guys in stories being lustful and barely keeping their desire in check! When it goes on and on it just gets old to me, nothing romantic in that. Sigh.
Listened a little more to the Dee Henderson re-read, ? VALOR. Enjoying it.0 -
My hold just came up on Never Leave Me. I enjoyed the first one.
I have been at Mom's with no concerns about diet, and tonight I just feel yucky. Need to get back to my regular diet.
I will catch up on what I am currently reading and listening to when I jump on tomorrow.0 -
I gave up on NEVER LEAVE ME, just too much "desire" going on and very little of the story. I'm sure it will get better as it goes along, but this part has been going on for a lot of pages. Let me know what you think, Connie???
Almost done with TRUE VALOR by Dee Henderson. Enjoying it as much this third time as the first two.
I can't remember what I listened to last night - sigh. I was quite tired so fell asleep about 10:30.0 -
I have been using YouTube audio books a bit for the last few days. Elana Johnson (Liz Isaacson) has several of a series that are pretty good. They are clean and wholesome and have a hint of Christian content. The books start out with several ads, but the longer you listen the less ads you see. These are about a large ranch that takes in a prisoner from a minimum security prison with 6 months or less on their sentence. The first two books are about prisoners that wind up in the program, the third is about one of their friends that gets out of prison, and gets hired.
Hope Eternal Ranch Romance:
HOPEFUL COWBOY by Elana Johnson (romance)
OVERPROTECTIVE COWBOY by Elana Johnson (romance)
RUGGED COWBOY by Elana Johnson (romance) - current
Currently reading - IN PURSUIT OF A PRINCESS by Lenora Worth (LI susp). I haven't been reading a lot, just basically listening to audiobooks. I have this checked out from the library, so I do need to finish it fairly soon. I am just kind of burned out on LI suspense, so am not so excited about it.
This is my newest list of authors putting some of their audiobooks on YouTube.

I just re-signed up for Kindle Unlimited (thanks, Connie, for replying on the other thread) and had 5 books suggested to add to my library, based on my reading habits. Three of those were Christy Barritt books from the Lantern Beach Blackout: The New Recruits series, so I downloaded those: Rocco, Axel and Beckett. I'll start on Rocco later tonight. Today is a house cleaning day. Took a coffee break. Time to get back to work.

I've been re-reading some of my fantasies, but have also gotten into one by Pegg Thomas called EMBATTLED HEARTS. I saw it on my MeWe page and saw it was part of KU. It's about a brother and sister who are on a wagon train with their mother and step-father who is a horrible brute. The mom dies and the step-father nearly beats her to death. She and the brother run and end up at a pony-express station where she is hiding in plain sight as the "boy" who is taking care of the horses. The brother becomes a pony express rider! So far it's been pretty good.

Kim - I usually like Pegg Thomas' books. I discontinued using MeWe because I just found so much more information on Christian Fiction on facebook, and then all of my high school, former Illinois friends and family are on facebook. I just don't want to do two different social media platforms.
Still working my way through the Elana Johnson series on YouTube. Currently I am working on the 5th book out of 6. She is also downloading another series - one book a week. I had only read one of her books written under that name, but there is definitely some Christian content, although not overt.0 -
I listened to a boxed set on KU last night and this morning. It was pretty good, but all of the novellas had a little bit of slang in them. It was shown as clean and wholesome, so I went with it. Valentine's Day Collection
Currently I am reading the Dangerous Pursuits boxed set. I bought it several months ago and never got around to reading it. It has 15 suspense novellas in it by well known Christian authors. It has been pretty good, but I really need to get away from the romantic suspense for a little while. I don't know what is going on with me, but I have been enjoying lighter reads lately.
So far:
THE LAST DAY by Lisa Harris
STEPPING FROM THE SHADOWS by Cara Putman
THE WINTER PEARL by Lenora Worth
PROTECTING THE HEIRESS by Terri Reed
A TIME TO HUNT by Cynthia Hickey
A DARK ROAD by Dana Mentink - Current read.
Also, I am listening to ONE WAY HOME by Jennifer Youngblood (romance) on YouTube. The only thing that I don't like about the YouTube books is that there is no sleep-timer on them for going to bed. I am really spoiled with setting a timer to shut my audiobook off.
The Elana Johnson books had a lot of commercials in them - especially early in the books. Later in them, the commercials quit. Most of the books just have a commercial at the beginning.
If anyone wants to check them out, please subscribe to their channels. The authors have to have 1000 subscribers in order to get paid. I'm sure that they would appreciate the subscription, even if you don't do anything with the books.

Connie, I have the DANGEROUS PURSUITS boxed set, did you like it?
I finished EMBATTLED HEARTS, it was good. The story moved along well and I liked the characters. It was a fairly light read even though there was some tension in the story, it wasn't dragged out.
I finished re-reading the first book in the Ravenwood series and am moving on to the second. I've never read the third although I did start it, but it had come out so long after the second I had forgotten a good part of the story. Hoopla has the third book, so when I get done with the second I can go right into the third!0 -
Kim- I still have 5 of the novellas left in it. They have all kept my interest, but are only about 75 pages each. It has 1197 pages, so it is taking a while to get through it.
0 -
I finished the three Christy Barritt books from the Lantern Beach Blackout: The New Recruits series - Rocco, Axel and Beckett. They were good, but very formulaic - all of them being very similar. I downloaded the fourth in the series last night (Gabe), but haven't started it yet. When I'm done with that, I think I'll look for something in a different genre.
0 -
I know what you mean, Cindy. I am trying to go from genre to genre right now. I have a time-travel by Jody Hedlund that I want to listen to, but just can't make myself get started on it.
I always enjoy Christy Barritt, but I don't usually "binge" read her series. I can imagine that they would seem very similar. I have thought about doing some of her older books, but just haven't gotten around to them.
Current:
Still reading on the Dangerous Pursuits anthology. I am almost done. All of the books in it are pretty good, but just a LOT of them (15). It was funny, they were in a totally different order than I originally had listed them, and then there was one book not shown in the contents page of the ebook. I thought it was left out, but it was there. I should finish it today.
I am listening to two audiobooks. One is REMEMBER ME by Sharon Garlough Brown. It is a shorter book relating to the Sensible Shoes series. That is a really deep series and very good. I did find an area in this book that I didn't agree 100% with, but they are basically very scripturally sound. Even if I don't totally agree with this one area, many main-stream evangelicals would argue its soundness. I didn't want to listen to this before bed, because I didn't want to doze off during the book. I will probably finish it this afternoon or tomorrow.
I am also listening to LOVE COMES HOME by Ann Gabhart (post WW2). I haven't gotten too far into this one, but it is about men coming home from the war. It is good, so far, but she is not one of the authors that I totally love. I will enjoy it more as I get further into it. It is book 3 in the Rosey Corner series.0 -
Connie, as far as I got in that Jody Hedlund book, maybe 60 pages, there hadn't been any time travel. The sister had a moment when she was in the same room as her sister back in time, but that passed quickly. I think, as the story goes on, the bad guys try to get them to go back in time and bring back the healing water.
I am enjoying the second book in my re-read of this Morgan Busse raven series. I just worked on that one last night.
0 -
Kim - I know that you really didn't like the premises on the first book. I don't know if you finished it or not. I am about 40% through this book and haven't had any issues with it at this point. She has now transported in time and is in a LOT of trouble. There are bad guys in the past and she wound up there and they are threatening to hang her. I don't know if they will actually stay as the bad guys, or not. I know that her books sometimes have some steam, but to me as long as the line isn't crossed, that can be read quickly and discarded.
I finished the Dangerous Pursuits boxed set and LOVE COMES HOME by Ann Gabhart (post WW2). The Ann Gabhart book would have probably been better read or text-to-voice. One of the reasons that I don't listen to more of her books is that she does her own narration and I think it sounds stilted. I should put a note about that on my "author page" that I have set up for her.
Currently I decided to read GRACE IN THE FLAMES by Michelle Massaro (wms fiction) KU. I read one of her other books and it was so good. This has been highly recommended, but boy does it start out heart-wrenching!
Editing - Whew! This book covers some serious subjects. It definitely is not an easy book!0
