Day 1 of this job. My room is quite a hike from the convention center area - the walk is all indoors though. It's not yet 10am and I'm just 281 steps away from my 6,000 steps/day target. I've walked from my room to the convention area, back to the bell stand in the lobby to pick up a case, back to the convention area and back to my room to change into short sleeves. The walk back will put me over 6,000 steps. It's a good start to the day0

What a great way to exercise while traveling, Cindy! I hope your trip continues to go well.
Kim, it seems like Biden and the liberals (one in the same) want to blame everything bad on either climate change or conservatives. I don't dare say more for fear I couldn't stop.
Dwight came home yesterday, a huge praise! He's doing better, but standing up is his main problem. He does good if he has the arms of a chair to push down on. But today, the problem was the bathroom. We have bars at the toilet, but it's difficult for him to pull himself up with them. The side effect of one of his meds, magnesium I think, is diarrhea. That's all I'll say, but you can read between the lines and figure out the situation. Caregiving has some rough moments!
Beth and I aren't ready to leave him alone for very long, so she's staying with him tomorrow while I play piano at church. I thought about not going, but decided it will do me good to be around my church family. I'll stay home next Sunday because Beth has a retreat. We'll see what happens after that.
Have a blessed Sunday, everyone!0 -
Carole - I understand where you are coming from! I don't know how your house is equipped, but we have a bedside potty with the bucket taken out of it sitting over the toilet. This adjusts and we raised the seat be a couple inches as well as having firm armrests for Bill. The in home health team told us to do that for my dad when he broke his hip, so I did it when Bill started having issues.
The weather here has been nasty. We just have a skiff of snow, because the temp has been a degree or two above freezing, but it looks slick this morning. I have a while to make up my mind about driving to church...they closed the road we take to church and the alternate routes are much further. They have completely removed the entire 4 lane highway right before our exit and the exit before is through a railway area with long trains. It's quicker to add the 5 miles to the journey. I hope they get the highway put back together soon.
Tomorrow and Tuesday we are supposed to have a bad storm. We will just see what happens.0 -
I think that storm is expected to hit us on Tuesday. Of course, that's my return travel day.0
-
I loved watching the snow fall on TV but am so glad we got none of it here. We did get some rain, but that's about it!
Cindy, awesome job getting steps, although it doesn't seem like you had much of a choice, unless they offer you a motorized cart!
Carole, huge praise the Lord! Caregiving is very hard, and we had three of us doing the work! We had a porta-potty in Mom's room. We ordered the bags for the potty so all we had to do was take those out and toss them in the covered garbage can we had just for that. It made things so much easier!
Still having some trouble with coughing and head congestion. I'm not sure what is going on. It's been three weeks! Last night I started having trouble catching my breath again, not bad, but more than I had been having in the last three weeks. This morning, no problems, but taking a deep breath does cause me to cough.
I have a dental appointment tomorrow, my 6-month cleaning. I am hoping that it's the sickness that is causing that tooth to hurt. It hurts when I bend over, but not when I eat! That sounds like sinuses to me - I sure hope so!
Love you gals.0 -
Well...5-8 inches expected overnight through mid-afternoon. We will see what happens. It may be my 1st missed day visiting Mom. Tomorrow afternoon Bill's doctor (NP) is supposed to be here. The appointmemt is sometime between 2pm-4pm....A long window. We will seem what the weather blows in!0
-
Connie, that's a lot of snow in your forecast! We've had a couple of light dustings, but the ground has been too warm for anything to stick. Occasional snow or rain/snow icons appear on our extended forecast, so we'll have to see what happens.
Several people have recommended the bedside potty that you and Kim mentioned, and I think it will be a big help. His primary care doctor will probably order one for us when we see him on Thursday. I didn't know you could get bags for them, Kim. While we wouldn't need them at this point, that's helpful information.
Today was a good day - busy, but good. PT came for an evaluation, and then the sweetest personal care lady helped him with a bath and washed his hair. Dwight ate good, too. But it seemed that no sooner had I finished preparing one meal, it was time to start on the next! Managed to to a little reading along the way.0 -
Carole, these are the liners we used: https://amazon.com/Vive-Pack-Commode-Liners-Absorbent/dp/B07811BWTT They have the absorbent pad in the bag all ready to go, much easier.
Going to the dentist shortly. When I described the pain in my tooth the gal was pretty sure it had to do with my sinuses! Will talk to y'all later.0 -
Back from the dentist! Great visit. I thought it might not be as good since I didn't take care of my teeth like I should while sick! The pain I was having in my teeth was from inflammation in my sinuses. The roots of one of the teeth goes right up to the sinus and the post for the implant is right against my sinus cavity too, so when there is infection or inflammation it puts pressure on the teeth! Interesting! and Praise the Lord it wasn't the tooth itself! The right tooth doesn't hurt any more and the left one isn't hurting like it had been - God is so very good! Doing much better over all.0
-
Glad to hear you're doing better, Kim.
I'm actually online in the air right now. I have just under an hour to go before I'm home, where I'll be until I leave for my next trip out of town on the 14th. I can't remember, Kim, are you in North Carolina? Or Carole? Or Both? 😁0 -
Well, we got about 6 inches of snow with a glaze of ice underneath. They scraped out road, but it still looks icy. I need to get to Mom's early today, so we will see if it is possible. I'm not taking chances. Luckily we are only a block off of the road the fire and police stations are on, and only about a mile away. They usually keep that road cleaned and de-iced. Now, we are expecting more snow on Friday and below zero lows on Friday and Saturday. Sunday the high is showing -1 as a high with -11 as the low. I am thinking that church may not be on my horizon.
Bill's doctor wanted to do a telehealth visit, but I told him no, that PT and OT wanted him seen personally, so it needed to be re-scheduled.0 -
I am in NC! We live on the coast now, we used to live in Hickory which is on the west side of NC, in the foot hills! Carole is in TN now, she used to live in Ga! I can't remember where in TN you are, Carole. I thought it was close to where I used to live in TN, Crab Orchard!
Hoowee! What a storm last night. Wade and I got into the closet in our bedroom during a tornado warning, but it didn't last long, and we didn't have a tornado near us, although there was one in NC somewhere. Hope y'all weathered that storm well. I think there are supposed to be even more of them. Eek!0 -
I think we flew through part of that storm yesterday. About an hour before we got to the Detroit airport we hit really bad turbulence.
I thought you might be in NC, Kim. I'm flying into Charlotte on January 14th. I think if I have an early day off or maybe some time after the program on the 17th, I might drive to Hickory and visit the Hickory Furniture Mart. We bought furniture from there years ago and I remember it being a good experience. I'd like to replace our bedroom dresser and chest of drawers with quality furniture that doesn't cost an arm and a leg0 -
I had an aunt by marriage who lived in Charlotte (Mom's sister). She passed away a few years ago. There are just two of the seven siblings left! Hickory Furniture Mart is still there, although I don't think it's as big as it used to be. Still lots of nice stuff there. The drive from Charlotte to Hickory just just around an hour.
I was watching a weather channel on YouTube and this whole country is headed for some frigid weather. Even Texas is going to get below 0. I think we are in a very small band that won't get frigid, but we will get in the 20's. Connie, you should be in the below 0 area, I know that where my BIL lives in Missouri, they are going to have below 0 temps for a couple of days. We are looking at more tornados here. We had friends whose electric box mounted on their house blew off! Trees came down around here too, but no houses were really affected - praise the Lord for that! As Bren (from my other team) would say, Me no likey!
I can't remember if I said yesterday, but I do have a sinus infection and started on more antibiotics yesterday. I think I'll know it's gone when I don't get pain in my teeth from bending over or putting pressure on my face (like into my pillow when I sleep on my side or back). I was able to actually get some stuff done today, laundry and dishes! Woohoo!0 -
Hope it continues to heal quickly, Kim.
I edited my post to indicate I was flying to Charlotte on January 14, not June0 -
We are definitely in the cold zone! I am not looking forward to frigid temps! Saturday, Sunday and Monday the lows are showing -9. At one time the high Sunday was showing negative, but now they are predicting a balmy 1 degree.0
-
I like to think that maybe the surrounding mountains shield us from some severe weather, but I could be totally off base. The mountains have had snow accumulations a couple of times, where we've only had a light dusting. A low of 7 degrees is predicted next Tuesday, then back into the teens or higher.
Cindy, we moved from busy Atlanta to the mountains of east Tennessee, not far from the NC and Virginia areas. Kim, what is Crab Orchard close to? Love that name, by the way! We're in Johnson City, in the tri-cities area of JC, Bristol and Kingsport. Beth likes to take me on occasional day trips, like NC's Blue Ridge Parkway, Blowing Rock, etc. and the Carter Family fold somewhere across the line into Virginia. I loved watching clogging and walking through the Carter homeplace. I even sat in Johnny Cash's favorite chair!
I took Dwight to his primary care appointment today. He did well, but it was hard for him to get out of the car and we were both tired afterward. His doctor has a team who goes to the home for doctor's visits and is referring him for that. He'll still have to go into the office once in a while, but not as often. The healthcare system seems much better here than back in Georgia. Love you all!0 -
Carole, Crab Orchard is on the plateau between Crossville and Knoxville. We went to town one day, no snow anywhere to be seen, by the time we headed home we almost didn't make it up the mountain it was snowing so hard! That was an exciting time! LOL! There used to be a TV show about Crab Orchard, a hillbilly-type show. I haven't ever gone to your neck of the woods though, but I have been to Asheville, Blowing Rock, and of course the outlet malls in Boone. I haven't ever been to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge either! It's so nice that you are able to get home health care! My doctor's office does the teledoc appointments if it's not convenient for us to get there. That's what my NP did with this sinus infection. I go to see her for my yearly physical on the 30th.
Hope the weather doesn't keep you from having a safe and healthy time, Cindy! You'll be in my prayers.
Feeling better! Praise the Lord. I'm hoping that I won't have any more symptoms of the sinus infection so I will be able to be in Church on Sunday. I've been to one Wednesday service in the past two months, a slight window between pneumonia and then the coughing sickness! We encourage folks to stay home if they aren't feeling well, one to keep them from catching anything worse while their immunity is down, as well as not giving something to someone else! I'm so glad we have Zoom, it still allows us to be involved in the service rather than just watching it, like the live ones on YouTube.
Hope y'all have an awesome day. Love you

There's lots of pretty towns in Tennessee, Kim. Crab Orchard sounds delightful and I can understand the sudden snow surprise. Weather seems to change quickly here.
This has been a weekend that I'd like to forget! We had high winds on Friday/Saturday, causing a tree to fall across a road not far from us on Saturday morning - and that resulted in over 8 hours without power, from 7:45 am to around 4 pm. Not much we could do except stay under cover. Then I woke on Sunday morning to discover that our heating system wasn't working. A repair guy in our church said he would come by in the afternoon, but the heat suddenly came back on around 2:00. At least we had power and could turn our blankets on. And finally, we both came down with a stomach virus, so it was hard for me to wait on Dwight. I mainly had diarrhea and finally took something over-the-counter for it last night. Much better today! But Dwight got dehydrated and spent a few hours in the ER. He still doesn't feel good, but I think it will just take time.
Today we are enjoying the most beautiful snowfall! It's supposed to snow through tomorrow morning, with 3-5 inches accumulation. Not everybody loves this, but I sure do!0 -
I love to watch the snow come, and then melt away after I get to enjoy it for a few hours! LOL! We are 62 degrees today! I think tonight and tomorrow our cold weather comes in.
Woohoo Iowa caucuses!0 -
We had three days in a row of -10 degrees or more. One day we had a low of -16, a record for us.Today was really nice and got up to about 30, but it is supposed to start snowing again tomorrow. I am so tired of it!0
-
I would get tired of that much snow, Connie. Our problem was cold temps on top of the snow, but roads were better today. Down to 9 tonight and 0 on Saturday, then warming up after that.
Dwight was able to eat some oatmeal and applesauce, in addition to juice and water, so that's an improvement over yesterday. His doctor's nurse will do a home office visit tomorrow and I'm working on a list of questions to ask. She could be very helpful.
I came across a quote from a novel written in 1956 that seems awfully prophetic for today - chilling, even. "We can't let a cop be killed because a cop is a symbol of law and order. If you take away the symbol, you get animals in the streets." Thoughts?0 -
I agree completely, Carole! Although, even with the cops in the streets, the courts are making our world far less safe! Oh, and letting in all of these illegals who have already viciously murdered several people. The last days are very scary!
I'm so glad Dwight was able to keep something down. So important to not let that dehydration settle in! I had a terrible headache last night and finally took something for it this morning. Got a bit nauseous, but, praise the Lord, never got sick! My whole head hurt with this one, from my neck forward!
We did a Zoom service last night and will again on Sunday because of the cold. We have a metal building and although it does have (argh, my mind just went blank - but you can figure out what I mean) it still gets hard to bring up the heat. Our lows were in the 20's and will be again on Sunday. Bright sunny weather with no snow to go with it! We're 46 now and will get up to 55 today. Woohoo! Wade filled our birdfeeder yesterday and within about 15 minutes it was empty! Hungry buggers!
Hope y'all are doing well other than the weather. You remain in my prayers. Love you0 -
Kim, I keep thinking if only... If only Biden hadn't been elected. If only George Floyd had lived. If only someone had the backbone to stop the liberals/socialists in their tracks. I don't like our political system because you have to give favors in order to get what you want, and elected officials lose their moral compass in the process. That being said, I understand occasionally making a concession to certain groups within your party, but Biden has given over completely to the left! It's all about power and keeping that power. Enough said. But I just can't comprehend how and why all this is happening. No one knows the day or hour, but maybe we are inching closer to the end times.
Changing the subject, a sweet family from church brought us the best meal today - pork tenderloin, wild rice, green beans, and stuffing. Dwight can't keep solids down yet, but I greatly enjoyed it and will share with Beth in the morning. Also, I saw an extended outlook that shows February to be cooler than normal for TN & NC, with March and April warmer than normal. I think Connie and Cindy's areas are also warmer than normal.0 -
I'm so glad I am where I am. Today and tomorrow we will be in the 50's, but then we go back down for two days into the 20's-30's, then we go back up again into the 50's-60's! Woohoo!. Can't wait to sit on my back porch and watch the chickens! LOL!
When Gaza attacked Israel so brutally I kept waiting to get snatched up in the rapture. The Middle East is blowing up. In my studying, I've been doing some End Times study, and the birth pangs sound an awful lot like what our world is going through. We may get a short reprieve if the former president {I'll use that since the FBI is looking for target words in people's posts, on checks, etc... to flag them as possible domestic terrorists; they are also looking for people who have made more than three religious purchases!} gets elected, but the world has sold out to satan {I was taught in elementary school that capitalizing a name or place as a proper noun in a way shows respect - I can't capitalize any name for satan!} and it's not going to come back. We watched a YouTube video on the World Economic Summit - these people are crazy. They are talking about devices being put on people that will read their emotions and they can correct those emotions if they aren't what "they" think they should be. Say what??? They want to make eco-crimes something that you can be charged with (like your carbon footprint being too big), or taxing you for higher carbon footprint products (like plastics rather than glass). It's nuts! Our pastor has a saying: sin makes you stupid and stupidity makes you sin. It's a vicious spiral downwards! Here's the Strongs definition for "fool": "H5036 nâbâl naw-bawl'
From H5034; stupid; wicked (especially impious): - fool (-ish, -ish man, -ish woman), vile person." Pretty much fits the folks at this summit, and in government.
Phew, what a crazy world!
I'm so sorry that Dwight still can't keep down solids, what a bummer! And what a lovely friend to bring you that meal!
Wade and I recently purchased a Ninja Speedi (1/2 price) and it can make an entire meal. It can basically be a steamer and an air fryer at the same time. You put your rice and veggies or noodles and veggies on the bottom and you meat on the top and cook! It also shortens the cooking time - like baked chicken can be done in 15 minutes rather than 30-40 in the oven. We haven't used it yet,... Oh, they also have a site where you can put in your ingredients and it will give you a recipe with the correct amounts!
Be safe, be well, and stay close to the Lord. Love you

Ugh! Well I came home from this last job with a full on cold. It started with just a stuffy nose but now I'm very congested and coughing at night. I started feeling sick on Monday and it's already Saturday. Slept a lot yesterday and I'll probably sleep a lot today0
-
Oh, I hope you didn't get the cough and head congestion thing that is going around. Almost everyone in my church got it and the worst of it lasted three weeks and all of us are still coughing at times! The fatigue hangs around too. Praying for you!
I was listening to The Five a couple of days ago, and one of the people on there said that they also got several different things in a row - pneumonia, strep throat, then the flu. Eek!
We are back into the cold realm today and tomorrow, then warming up again. We'll do Zoom services tomorrow. Even though we have insulation and heat in our metal building, it can't overcome temperatures that low, and since we've all been so sick recently it's safer for us to Zoom. Can't wait for things to get warmer and healthier so I can be part of worship services again in person!
Love y'all.0 -
I just saw where Carole's husband passed away.

Thank you, Connie. That just might be the sweetest write up I've ever read.0

Dear friends, it's good to be here! The last three days have seemed surreal after Dwight's passing. Even though his health had been slowly deteriorating, it was still a shock when his heart suddenly stopped on Saturday morning. Daniel, Beth's husband, said that sometimes, when a person is nearing the end, it's like a chain of events where something goes wrong and is fixed, then something else breaks down, and the cycle repeats. I think that's a good description of what's been happening. They were able to get his heart started back for a while, so we got to be with him in the afternoon hours - telling how much we loved him, reading Scripture, and praying.
I'm glad you all got to read his obituary. It was written by Daniel, who is a journalist. He did a lot of listening, then put his heart into the writing. I've never tried to envision life without Dwight, so it will take a while to figure out the "new normal." Each day is a little better (I was actually able to read some today), and living close to Beth and Daniel means everything. I also have a very caring and supportive church. It's good to be with all of you.0
