I think the most vials I had taken at one time was eight or ten. Ten seems high, but eight seems about right. As long as she didn't have to stick me for each one I was happy!
Good work on the walking, Connie. Your numbers look good too! I'm back on plan today.1 -
Talking re needles - I don't like them and always tend to be a bit anxious when having blood drawn - but just have had the normal amount taken when I go have blood work - think it is 4 vials might be 5. What I freak out with is going to the dentist and having my mouth frozen - have a good dentist so usually it doesn't really hurt it is more in my mind. On saying that I had a molar pulled yesterday ($265.00) so am in the healing stages now - and am so hungry but he has said to try to say on clear fluids till at least the weekend if not till Tuesday of next week giving it 7 days to form a covering over the hole where the tooth came out of.
House is quite - hubby is having a nap and daughter is in her room listening to music so I am going to stretch out now for a bit before the next repair man comes in about 1 hour

Marilyn, I just put a piece of gauze over the hole and ate on the opposite side of my mouth. I think I did clear liquids for a couple days, but did the gauze for a couple more and then just ate on the opposite side until my mouth felt comfortable to eat on the side that the tooth was pulled from. I've had quite a few teeth pulled and I don't think I ever did the clear liquids for that long - but your dentist knows your mouth, so...0

October 7 they start on an implant for me. I put off making the decision for too long, but it is a necessary tooth, so I can't just have it pulled. $4500. At least I will be paying as the work is done. The first payment is the largest. It is a root canal gone bad, and of course my little dental policy doesn't cover anything on it.1
-
Reminds me of my last time at the dentist. He went thru his plan to "get my mouth healthy"....pull 7, 2 partials, a two step cleaning and all for around $5300. I told him I didn't spend that much on my car! My one root canal was poorly done, then my dentist took ill and passed away...the new dentist went thru 2 rounds of antibiotic for a massive infection and I had the tooth pulled anyway. Me no likey!1

I had a meatball sandwich with onion, chips and 2 SF Popsicles for dinner. No eating after. Those meatballs are yummy but 60 calories each so I need to watch myself. The chips balance needs to go in the trash as they add no nutritional value. I could have 3 meatballs for the chip calories. LOL Other than a small potato at 3 PM, I stayed on track yesterday. I traded half my lunch salad w/tuna...for that small tater.1
-
I tend to get too many nuts when I have them in the evening, so, I am restricting that!
Bren, I did that with two root canals. My teeth were funny and the antibiotics couldn't get rid of the infection so they had to yank them. From now on we are going to yank before we go through the root canal!!!
I'm going to try and walk this afternoon and get my five laps in - we'll see.1 -
I was so whipped on my off days that the only activity I got was the hiking for labs/appointment, minor kitchen cleaning and sorting the fridge, getting the trash out (big box plus)...and minimum of real activity.
I plan to do more today, and plug in some moves on purpose. I was SO hungry that I ran off to Taco Bell when I took the deposit to the bank. So needless to say, I am over my sodium limit already. I may do an omelet for dinner and at least be OK calorie wise. I am happy to have my iced tea. I get an extra cup of ice as well. I didn't bring any from home this morning. I did toss the rest of the chips and will aim to stop buying them.1 -
Third day of September and seem to be in the ditch somewhat. Lots of expenses re the house - central air is going to have to be replaced - approx $5,000 / oven went and it cost more to have the computor part of the stove fixed to solve the problem then to by a new one but a new one cots $600 (cheapest one we could find) washing machine and dryer are one component with dryer sitting on top - washer is on its last leg - repair man suggest running it till it completely stops - so depressing everything breaking down at the same time.
Then there is my health - had a molar pulled on Tuesday - anxiety has decided to come on board making me think I am getting a dry socket which I have never had before - and dentist is not in his office today and Monday is a holiday sooooo have to hang tight till Tuesday to talk to him as I really don't want to bring him to the office when he is 'off'. And last night my tailbone decided to act up - it did this a few years ago and was terrible. I don't sleep in a bed due to some medical problems so I sleep on a recliner which means I am on my back - and at 3 am I woke up with it being uncomfortable to sit in my chair - so was up on my feet, then sitting normally for a bit, then trying to put the recliner back. Am tired!! Called the doctors office to get a reminded of what I did last time and if I needed any medication at hubby says it looks a little red. He is off on Fridays and wont be in till Tuesday. So stalled on that one also. Of course there is the hospital but WILL NOT go there - 28 nurses just walked off the emergency department last week due to being overworked and covid - and there is a shortage of nurses at the hospital as it is so now it is going to be even worse. And they are turning people away at emergency due to covid and wildfire smoke - not nice - no wonder that my anxiety is running high the last few days. So as for my tailbone I need to work on getting up off the chair every hour walk for a few minutes, have hubby rub down the cheeks of the bum all to make sure a bed sore does not develop. Oh isn't life fun
On the good side the sun is shining today. And God is in control I will get through this and if I don't I would go to a better place though I would like a lot more time here with hubby and my kids.
Not eating much the last few days due to extraction of tooth - jello puddings, apple sauce, boiled eggs - so nutritious right!!! But am going to hang on it will get better - I will make my goals for September - each day I am working on each goal - only one right now that is off is the intake of food but my time with the Lord is doing much better - as I am spending less time on the computer and more time in the Word
Numbers 6:24-26
The Lord bless you and keep you
The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you
The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

I finally identified the new pain in my frozen shoulder. It has been different than the right one was and more stressful/painful but I couldn't "describe" it.. Last night I realized it feels like my leg cramps do...groin to ankle. Not sure what it means but I'm sure not liking it.
FBS is 283...wrong direction. However...the BP is 119/79...hooya!1 -
I looked up some natural remedies for a dry socket and here is what I came up with:
1. Dab Clove Oil
Clove oil has proven to be an effective treatment for a dry socket. It’s anesthetic and analgesic properties help reduce the throbbing pain that makes it difficult to even move your head.[5]
Clove oil works by acting as a physical barrier between the exposed bone along with the exposed nerve endings and the oral environment. It helps relieve pain and decreases the number of visits to the emergency room.
Dip a small cotton swab in clove oil.
Place the swab in the socket for 1 minute.
Remove the swab and rinse your mouth with warm water.
Do this a few times throughout the day.
2. Apply Cold Compress
Pain in the jaw and cheek is common among those suffering from a dry socket. A cold compress is a tried-and-tested remedy that you can easily use at home to alleviate pain. The cold temperature has a numbing effect on the nerves, which reduces pain.[7]
Dip a thin towel in cold water and wring out the excess water.
Place the cold towel on your face in the area where you are experiencing pain.
Hold it there for about 15 minutes.
Repeat this four to five times a day for 2 days.
After 2 days, switch to warm compresses to help decrease the pain and swelling.
3. Rinse Your Mouth with Saline Water
Gently rinsing your mouth with warm salt water 24 hours after a tooth extraction is highly effective at preventing dry socket. The warmth of the solution helps reduce pain and swelling, and the salt helps prevent any infection.
These things won't hurt even if it turns out not to be a dry socket! I'm so sorry that all of these things are happening all at once - welcome to life!
Okay - I was 236.8 this morning. Better! We ordered dinner last night and I did a shrimp burger without the bun, so it was in a bowl covered in cole slaw! Yummers. They do their shrimp dark and crispy, just the way I like it!0 -

Things are getting better - talked to dentist think all is well - pain / discomfort is getting less but still needing some tylenol a day but have been taking 2 at night to make sure I sleep
@Bren5535 - see you posted your FBS - when I convert that to Canadian Number (283 divided by 18) it would come to 18. I never know when in USA numbers if it is high or low - are you on the needle or pills for it - am sure you talk to your doctor about it right. I know for me the number goes up depending on what I eat - this morning my FBS number was 6.8 (6.8 x 18 ) would give me 122.4 for USA number - my doctor is happy with that number. I really work hard to keep it under 7 (7 x 18) which is 126 because once I had it higher and doctor freaked me out about how high it was. Is there anything I can help you with regards to food choices - I know when I was first told I had diabetes I freaked and would test before and after every meal - I ended up getting a lot of information on what food would bring the number up. For me for instance beets bring it way up, watermelon brings it way up and any food with sugar or flour seems to make it go up - but everyone I think is different. At any rate if you want to email me if you want to talk food choices - maybe we can share what works - just reaching out to see if I can be of help - but must say I am a long way from getting 'healthy' - oh to lose 100+ pounds is difficult right - but I have come to understand that it is only as difficult as we make it - and for me I have been making it really hard.
So once this tooth extraction completely heals I will be back 100% on plan - but for now going softly on myself - and I must say at times this is hard -
Be blessed

Prayers for you Marilyn! I ended up with dry socket in my early 20's after a dentist with alcohol on his breath mutilated my poor mouth. Hope your pain eases and the mouth heals promptly!
I am on meds and insulin...Novolog and Levemir. Too much... but reckon it's necessary at the moment. I've been diabetic since about 2008? I know what to do but have been extremely reckless in getting done what I KNOW to do! I have heart disease (2 heart attacks/4 stents) kidney disease etc. so need to juggle things better than I've been doing. My Dr. wants my A1C at 6.5....and I'd like to reach that by January when I do labs and see him again. Gives me 4 months to work on the weight and other issues.
I played with my charts this morning, having to re-work 2, found my retirement budget one and made some changes there...was able to print them out. It's not so much the printer as the fouled files after the windows updates. They did something stupid to all my personal files. Oh well....1 -
Well, I decided to take Kim's lead and walk inside the house. I did 6/10 mile, and it was a little quicker than if I actually walked the block. It also didn't have hills. I should have walked outside, but the temperature got pretty warm, and then the neighbors have a big kids birthday bash going on, and the road is full of cars, and half are parked on the sidewalk (no curbs).

Aarg - I hadn't weighed in for quite a while and was hoping for a bit of a loss, but it didn't happen. No gain either, so that is good, anyway.
I got out early this morning and the weather was perfect for my walk. I almost went further, but had told Bill I would be back in 20 minutes and wanted to live up to my word (usually takes me 16 minutes).

Nothing really looks terrible, but I'm not going to say it was a particularly "healthy" dinner. I pounded 4 slices of pork loin, sliced very thinly and fried in olive oil, then made gravy with the left over oil. Tasted good, I hadn't done that in probably 35 years. It was low in sat fats, low in sodium and was really yummy.1 -

Mouth is healing well from the pulling of the molar - just having to learn patience. Lost some weigh this week due to being on soft foods all week - so it will be interesting to see what the next week brings as I get to 'chew' again.
Connie you amaze me how diligent you are in keeping your calories and all so under control. I have worked a long time to keep my calories between 1000 - 1200 which really does a number re carbs and cholesterol. When I reduce the cholesterol all other numbers go out of wack - but am working on it. One thing I have found though on the days that my calories are under 1000 things that if I keep it under 1000 for more than 2 days, I end up with a gain in the weight - my body just does not take eating low on calories -don't know if it is the choice of food I make or what but the fewer the calories / or when it is too many calories means a weight gain. But I have found 1,000 to 1,200 seems to work for me best
Well supper is cooking (hubby is doing it tonight - hamburger patty (4 oz) with boiled potato (4 oz) and 7 oz of a vegetable probably he will make a combination of peas and corn as those are his favorites and they are ones that my digestive system can handle. Now to see how it goes with eating on one side of my mouth
Take care

Mom and Wade got their first vaccinations today and we had McDonald's for lunch, so not on plan for me today. I will do just a protein drink for dinner and probably some veggie straws for a snack. I did walk seven laps yesterday and will try to do seven laps again today, that's about 550-600 steps. I'll do seven laps this week and then up it to 10 laps next week, and then work on getting in 15 laps five days a week after that.
I ordered some THM organic protein. The only ingredient I saw was 100% de-fatted hemp. It has just two carbs (as opposed to the 8 that my vegan protein blend has) and no fat, which my KOS has 3.5 saturated fat, I didn't look at total fat. It also has just 70 calories in a serving where my KOS has 130! It was very similar in price as well, although the shipping from THM is $9.99 which makes it more expensive! Hopefully one day Amazon will carry it!1 -
No walk today. It was really hot and now it is looking like rain. I may do an indoor walk again tonight. We will see.

Got my Covid test done today. I'm 99.9% sure it will be negative since I've had the symptoms for almost two months now! As soon as that comes back I'll schedule my vaccination. Mom is doing fine after hers, Wade is very tired but no other symptoms.
Phew, the A/C went out again! We had it fixed a couple of months ago, but he told me then it was an old unit and would probably have to be changed out soon - I sure hope it isn't going to be now!!! But, the Lord knows and He will make a way!
236 this morning. I did do about 5.5 laps yesterday, my legs really hurt as I was walking. I think if I were able to wear my tennis shoes I could do it with less pain, but my feet have been swollen for most of the summer and can't get into them, or when I can they rub against the bulge in my calf just above my ankle and it's painful - so right now I'm just wearing my flip-flops! I hope cooler weather will take that swelling down or my tootsies are going to get very cold this winter! LOL!1 -

Kim - can you wear compression socks to help with the swelling. I know that it is a complex medical issue, but it seems like there should be something to help with living your everyday life. Bill retained a lot of fluids and the doctor told him to start with 15-20 compression socks and then to go up to 20-30. At first he had problems, but now he doesn't even think about them. It has made such a difference in his feet and legs, too.1 -
I have compression socks and have purchased quite a few of them, even ones through a medical supply company that measure me for them - every single one of them strangles my ankles. With Lipedema my legs are big all the way to my ankle, then there is a sharp dip into my ankle. My feet aren't usually swollen, but lately they have been, so the socks dig into that itty bitty space between my foot and the bottom of my leg and just choke it out. I spend much of my day pulling my socks up and trying to get them out of that gap. I do wear these neoprene wraps that close with Velcro so I can use the compression that I need (tight to mildly tight) as well as ace type bandages that I wrap around my legs. Those two things work well, but in the summer are very hot if I go outside. I'm just not good about putting them on or using them every single day. I need to do my massage as well, but again, I just don't think about it so end up doing it just two or three times a week when I should be doing it twice a day! I need to make that one of my challenge goals! I found a site called Cheap Compression Socks in hopes of finding something that would work - same problem with the ankles as well as not reaching to the bottom of my knee so it was strangling that area of my leg as well. Me and socks just don't get along! LOL!
Oh dear, there is a whole string of Zulily tunics at the bottom of my screen, makes me want to go and find something. There is one gorgeous one with a beach, then ocean and then sky, but it doesn't have sleeves and my arms look awful so I don't go sleeveless. The shirt I'm wearing now has cap type sleeves but I plan to be in the house most of the day - but if I go out somewhere, I'll put on something that has 3/4 sleeves.
God hungry later this morning and had a biscuit and a piece of bacon so will have to go light the rest of the day. I need to get back to tracking my food but have been called away from the computer nearly every day this week so haven't taken the time to come back to it later in the day.
So far, no results from my Covid test - ugh. I really wanted to get that early so I could schedule my vaccination. Oh well, Lord knows.1 -
I've not done well the past 10 days I reckon. Very little activity other than what's absolutely necessary. I did get my apartment in order at last, only about 70% of what I used to be able to do but much better than the minimum of late. Got trash out on the way to the office, laundry sorted and ready for Sunday before work, vacuumed yesterday. Need to do the dusting and clean the bathroom....and work on my collections for give-away.
I got lunch from Chicken Express today. The Catfish and goodies. So yummy but dinner needs to be really light. I've gained weight again. Too much sodium and carelessness. SF rice, Fried okra, canned beans and the like. I've had way less beans of late due to the potassium but they are good with my okra. Most are in the bag to leave out for a neighbor.
I have an HEB order to pick up after work and ordered a pack of calf liver to cook. I haven't had any in maybe 9 years or more. I like chicken livers too and had those recently...my last Chicken Express run actually, a few weeks back.
I hear you on the socks, Kim. My compression socks, being the shorties type are awesome and do help when my feet are swollen and complaining. Mostly I wear the thin little ankle type....when my feet are behaving.
1 -
Isn't life great - so glad to be alive but sometimes wonder what it would be like to be my age and not have any medical issues - but the Lord is in control and I am so happy that He is because if it was up to me I would make a big mess of everything.
Compression socks - I too have some. I get them from a place where they measure your legs and go from there. I wear them up to my knees but I know of people that have them from the ankles to the knees. They sure work but for whatever reason I havent worn mine for sometime so now my legs are much more swollen because of it. When I first put them on it feels 'tight' but within an hour I forget they are on and they feel so good - have open toe ones as I can't take things over my toes. On the topic of toes I am getting the my toes and calluses done next week by a registered nurse that specialises in feet - she is also a diabetic who has lost 175 pounds and looks so good - so she is aware of what to look for when treating my feet. Once I have them done I will go back to wearing the socks as I need to get the swelling down some. Would be nice to have ones that come up over the top part of my legs but they a no go for me. The lady that I deal with has suggested that when I lose a bit more weight to invest in some spanx as that would help for the upper leg. So will see when the time comes if I will invest in some.
Going to my doctor this afternoon - have been dealing with what I call a sinus headache but he did not want to give me meds for it until he checks the sinus out - and truthfully I think he wants me to take a covid test to rule that out - I don't have a fever and not aches and pains or couch that comes with covid - just sinus (and a tooth that needs a root canal). Also having trouble with my left foot - the heal - hurts at times to walk on it - no cuts, no callus, no bumps but just is not right - so need to find out what it could be - am starting to wonder if a person can get arthritus in the heal of the foot - if so that could be the problem. Getting old is not all that they say about being golden - to many aches and pains to my liking.
Went back to my TOPS chapter last Tuesday - has been about a year since we were locked out and the ladies have been meeting again since June and keep calling asking me to come back. So I took the leap - discovered I am 16 pounds higher than the last time I weighed in with them - not good - now to get those 16 pounds of immediately as I am sure that is some of the problem I am dealing with.
Am dealing with pain in my right shoulder - always feels like a nerve is pinched but I know osteoarthritus has started in there - guess this is something else I need to have the doc look at - I know he is going to smile and mention that my anxiety is bringing up all these little things but good to have them looked at regardless
Got the quote for a new central air conditioner - $5025 plus tax. And then there is the washer dryer combination that is 30 years old and needs now to be replaced - $2,000 plus tax. And the oven on the stove -well it is best to purchase a new stove which if we look at the plainest and cheapest it will cost us $750 plus tax = and I also need to fit in there the cost of the root canal $650 = so that all comes to $8425 plus tax = dont like it when everything breaks down at one time when we are on pension - we just seem to get a bit saved (for emergencies - and I guess this is the emergency) so if we get all of these paid for now we are back to starting over on our pension to put money aside -isn't life great!!
I have always lived my life in putting Christ first, turning over all problems to Him and listening to His advise on how to deal with things - but I think I am like so many people that when it all seems to come falling down at one time I turn to my faith which tells me 'He will never give you more than what you can handle' -though right now I believe I am at the door of not being able to handle much more - but He is in control and things will work out for the best
Take care very one

When we had Covid at the beginning of this mess fever was one of the things they were checking, and then asked about coughing as well. Wade had a fever for about one hour, I never got a fever (and I haven't had more than a one degree rise in temp since I was 18). We knew to check when we both lost our sense of smell and he lost his sense of taste. We both had the cough and I was exhausted, he was tired. Mom was asymptomatic. So, a fever isn't necessarily a good indicator of Covid. The smell and taste thing is a dead giveaway, but not everyone experiences that one either. If you've never had it or you aren't vaccinated then I would say a Covid test is a good idea. The vaccination doesn't mean you can't get Covid either, so even if you had been vaccinate, you could have a milder form of it!
I'm still waiting for my results. Must have a lot of tests to do!
Bren, I'll meet you at the noodle shed -
Didn't end up doing a smoothie last night, had a PB and J sandwich instead. I finally have a THM approved bread! It is flax and oat based with some whole wheat in it, but not the first ingredient. Lunch today will be a smoothie so I can get my fruit and veggie powder and my tummy powder mixed in there!
So glad our A/C came back on! Praise the Lord for that blessing. I don't know of a verse that says that He won't give us more than we can handle, but rather that no matter what we go through He will never leave us nor forsake us. If we could handle it we wouldn't need Him!
Jms 1:2f Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
We experience stuff to test us and to give us the opportunity to grow in our faith. Fix your eyes on Jesus and know that He already knows what is going to happen and He has you in the palm of His hand!1 -
I'll see you there Kim! Glad you saved the pic! LOL...I lost mine with updates and the like knocking things about on both my home and office computers.
Oh...PB&J sounds good. It's been about 3 months since I had that. I had bologna sandwiches last night (2) with onion and tomato. Yum. I put the rest of the bologna in the freezer.
I had 2 LC tortillas with the rest of my deli roast beef for lunch with half a slice of pepper jack per roll and mustard. My carrots/celery and Ranch was the only nod to a veggie. I have a grilled chicken thigh and salad planned for dinner. I put a pack of pork chunks in the fridge to thaw for a crock pot meal soon and hope to cook my liver and onions Monday or Tuesday when I'm off.
I had a note at home from management. She will be doing inspections of our apartments starting Monday. I hope she gets mine quickly. She will start with 101 and I am only 6 from the start spot. Means I need to keep things tidy and check my smoke alarm. I have a battery handy if I need one. I'll finish my cleaning this weekend and work on laundry between Sunday and Tuesday.1 -
Kim - the wound care doctor gave Bill a compression "sock". I don't remember what she called it, but I think is was a Tubi. It was just like an ace bandage, but it was as long as a sock. She measured around his calf, and measured how long, and then found the right width and just cut the length. We really didn't like it because it didn't match his other sock, but he wore it under his cast quite a bit.
I found a link for them on Amazon, but didn't research. https://www.amazon.com/Tubigrip-Tubular-Bandage-Natural-10-9yards/dp/B003TKJFHC0 -
Got my planned meals tracked. Over some in sodium and a lot on potassium but I sure do love my veggies. I'll try harder to behave myself so I don't fall in the ditch again.1
