I guess I didn't post my day yesterday. I ate on plan and walked 3/4 mile. I am trying to make a plan for today. I really want to make stew for dinner tonight, but Bill doesn't need red meat two days in a row. I took out some chicken, but have no earthly idea what I am going to do with it. I want chicken spaghetti, but Bill can't do the sodium in the cheese, so I will probably just slice it thin and sauté it with a little bit of flour coating. It is not easy staying away from both red meat and sodium! I'm just glad we haven't had a problem with his potassium in recent years. He went through a little while a few years ago that his potassium was a tad high, but they thought it might have been from a medication. It was only twice, and now is in line, so who knows.

I'm on 2 potassium sparing drugs so really have to watch mine. It was high in April, normal with my labs 2 weeks ago. Yippee. Sodium...now that's such a tough one for me. Not well disciplined at all.

I was hungry at 10:30 so had my lunch early, minus the veggies to make way for a tater and greens at dinner with some roasted pork. I'll do that in the Air Fryer.

Well, I couldn't figure what to fix for dinner without red meat tonight. I got a package of chicken out of the freezer and saw corn on the cob. Well, to make a long story short - CARBS

    Calories - 958
    Carbs 120
    Sat Fat 9
    Cholesterol 87

Oh well, everything else is okay and carbs are in their range. AND I actually got a mile walk in today!

Kim, hope all is well at your spot. I'm hanging out at the shed by myself today.

I adjusted my goals a bit...allowed myself 500 more on the potassium as I'm way over many times and I do love my veggies....and coffee. I did a split on my carbs/protein and fats as well. 30/35/35. Will see how that works the remainder of this month and watch myself. Nobody has been "watching me" for much too long and I've gotten myself in trouble.

I got a message from my kidney Dr. yesterday. I'm to decrease the Vitamin D, as it's in normal range, kidney function is stable, Electrolytes are good and no urgent interventions are needed at the moment. That's a good report and I am thankful. All the more reason to get myself on track and out of the Noodle Shed.

We had stew from the left over pork loin. So good, but with that and a 1/2 sandwich with pretzels for a light dinner, it took a bit of figuring out my evening snack to fit the goals.

I got in another nice 1 mile walk. This kind of weather makes me really enjoy my walks! Kim - I am making my weekly goals, believe it or not.

Got my mile walk in today (after fighting my hair flying in my face for half the walk). We had breakfast for dinner, so I went a little over in cholesterol, but stayed good in calories, carbs, & sat fats.

I have a roll of that. When I do my Ace bandage type wrap I put that on under it. I usually keep those wraps on for three or four days at a time. I found some ace bandage type wrap that I can easily get on and off and I use that when I don't use the neoprene wraps. I have socks that have feet, that don't have feet as well as some that don't have toes. I have them in colors and even ones that zip up, but all of them strangle me at some point during the day and I just rip them off they hurt so badly. The wraps and the bandages work the best.

Ooo, hope you pass your inspection, Bren!

I think that I will wait until Monday to start working on my 10 laps a day. I just got two days of walking in this week rather than the goal five days - sigh. Just want to feel less tired. I looked up some of my symptoms and Celiac disease came up. I only have two or three of them and sure hope that's not it, but if it is it is just a matter of deleting gluten from my diet and I don't get a lot of that anyway. The other possibility for some of the symptoms is taking the IBgard. I think my body doesn't like it, so I am stopping it and seeing if that gets rid of some of the symptoms, but I don't think it will affect the fatigue. Sucralose used to make me feel this way, but I haven't had any of that in quite awhile. Hmmm???

I hope y'all have a very blessed evening.

Praying that this week will be the start of things improving.

Waiting for the air conditioner man to call back re financing to get a new one as he said that the quote he gave is only for 30 days so patiently waiting.

Used to be a member of TOPS (taking off pounds sensibly) but with the pandemic did not go. Re joined last week and had a 1st weigh in today - like using them for accountability re weigh in as someone else weighs me in and records it. Looking forward to having a nice lose next Tuesday

Hubby has the news on - makes me want to cry listening to all the bashing re covid and vaccine - we need to pray for each other and come together caring for each other helping each other to get through this pandemic

    Be blessed

It has been cloudy, ugly and hot today, so I didn't take my walk. Then I made a couple of changes to my tracked food and now I am over in my Sat Fats. If I take even a short walk, it would be okay. I need to decide if that one over fat is worth walking the house or taking a chance on getting rained on for an outdoor walk. Hmmmm. My goal is twice a week, and I have been doing more, so I won't feel guilty about the walk - just the sat. fats.

I fixed a big bowl of strawberries for the guys and put out a package of sugar-free cookies (BIL is diabetic). I ate two of those little cookies and they had more sat fat than an Oreo which is what I originally had tracked. I just hated to eat an Oreo and not offer him one.

Sat fats 14 (goal is 13 without exercise)

I got nothing of a constructive nature done yesterday. I rested all day. I had 2 nights of extreme pain and am hoping to be at the end of that cycle. I need to check into the anti-inflammatory diet tips again and actually use them.
It's back to work today. It's sale day so I'll stop at Dunkin' for the donuts...against my will. I do make the office buy me a large coffee for my troubles but need to make sure I keep my paws out of any donut box.

    Am back on track today.

As a food addict I took back to drinking ginger ale - any pop is very addictive to me - as there are no nutrients in them I am giving them up - again - I went 6 years without any when I was used to drinking on average 2 of the large bottles a day - so today I am starting the process of not having any pop anymore

So with that being said today I am

    (1) having 3 meals only

    (2) not having any snacks

    (3) measuring all my food on my digital scale

    (4) all food eaten is written down in on the food tracker here on MFP

    (5) not having any pop today

So that is what is happening with me today (plus other things but that is another thing)

Marilyn - I found that if I drank sodas and coffee that I couldn't get my water intake. I decided that I could do without sodas, but don't take away my coffee! I gave up soda in 2008. Once in a blue moon I will have a carbonated water, but that is a rarity and I haven't had a soda since. They really don't even sound good, anymore.

I also know that if I don't plan in a snack that I won't stick to my plan. I need a late evening snack, but try to keep somewhat healthy....of course I don't eat breakfast, so that still would be 3 meals, I guess.

    Kudos, Ladies!
I still have an average on 1-2 diet cokes a week, mostly when I have popcorn as a snack. Water is my beverage of choice and like you Connie...gotta have my coffee. I have cut way back on it since the office was closed to the public for a full year and I didn't have to make it at the office. I normally do my 4-5 cups a day.

I made up my Bento Box for lunch so I wouldn't be running off for fast food. I did the Chicken Express thing yesterday when I made my bank run. I normally only have breakfast 2 days a week...on my off days.
I have 2 boiled eggs, some lower sodium honey ham, carrots, broccoli, grape tomatoes and a mini sweet pepper...and a small cup of Ranch to play with.

I made some yummy soup on Sunday and will finish that off tonight with a nice salad. I'll miss the cornbread but it won't miss me. I would have made some on Tuesday if I'd had any milk.

If I want something carbonated I drink my Izze which is basically carbonated fruit juice. Satisfies that urge for something fizzy and I still get something nutritious. My water is SoBe Water because plain water makes me nauseous (usually). SoBe Water doesn't have any calories but is sweetened with Stevia and has some type of fruit or veggie in it to give it it's color. It is also fortified with different vitamins.

We are going out to eat tonight for dinner - steak. I had my protein drink for breakfast and will do my smoothie for lunch and then have a steak and hopefully sweet potato fries for dinner.

You ladies are doing so good - so proud of you.

As I mentioned I have once again given up pop - this time I plan to get past the 6 years as it just does nothing for my health. So because I gave it up I have noticed this week already the scale is moving down - like 2 pounds since Tuesday - and the only change has been the pop.

I don't do sugar of any kind which means I read all labels and if sugar is listed in the 1st 3 ingredients I don't have it. Has been an an adjustment but it has been awhile now and is normal. I found that having any type of sugar made my cravings run high. I truly am a food addict.

Flour is the next that I will be working on eliminating. Have read up on flour and how it is processed - it is another trigger for anyone that has lots of cravings. I have had many people tell me not to give up a food group just because of flour. I don't give good groups - I just watch in each food group to eliminate flour as I know what it does to the body and how it affects me. I did get 2 months without any and boy how much better I felt - less pain, less swelling, less bloating - and no brain frog. But for whatever reason I started eating food containing flour and so am now back to the start of getting it out of my system. It does mean being creative with different foods. For instance sandwiches - love English Muffins with an egg and some cheese on them - so now am in the process of figuring out how to adapt that replacing the English Muffin with something that is not made of flour - if you have any suggestions would be great. Right now I am having the egg with a slice of cheese melted over it, an extra 1 oz of cheddar cheese and then some fruit - usually green grapes (6 oz) for my lunch. It works but my mind is telling me that I am being cheated not having the bread and I do believe that is temptation talking to me but if I can find something to replace the 'bread/flour' would be appreciated.

Thought I would share what my food looked like today - you will notice that I did not have any pop (90 oz of plain water which was somewhat difficult to get down but glad I got it down but did have some flour - that will be next weeks challenge)

    Breakfast
2 hard boiled eggs (1 protein serving with green grapes, 6 oz (fruit serving)

    Lunch
1 English Muffin (need to delete this tomorrow) (this would fall under the grain group)
1 fried egg with 1 slice of cheese melted over it (this would fall under protein 1 1/2 serving)
1 oz cheddar cheese (1/2 serving of protein)
6 oz green grapes (1 fruit serving)

    Dinner
4 oz grilled chicken (1 protein serving)
4 oz boiled potato (1 grain serving)
7 oz vegetables - kernel corn and peas (vegetable serving - aiming for 10 0z)

    90 oz of water

Came in at 1284 calories and the food tracker told me that if I eat this way for 5 weeks I will lose 8 pounds so maybe need to consider this - big change would be the English Muffin)

Well that's me for today - have met my goal for today looking at meeting it again tomorrow

Got my mile walk in this morning.

    Calories - 854
    carbs - 87
    Sat Fats - 12
    Cholesterol - 67

I didn't eat my yogurt that I had in tracker yesterday, and I also have one in the tracker that I may not eat today. I should due to the calories, but I am not hungry and I need to quit eating for the evening in 23 minutes.

Marilyn - You should be able to find a gluten free bread. They are becoming a lot more popular and a lot more accessible. There is a "cloud bread" that is mainly egg white and cream cheese that you could look up, but I wasn't overly excited about it. What I did when I was really watching my carbs was eating a chaffle. 1 egg- 2 ozs shredded cheese and any type of seasoning desired fixed in a mini waffle maker (they say it make two, but I always can get three out of it. If you make it in a regular waffle maker, try to just fill 3 sections. It makes a great pizza, good sandwiches, add sweetener, vanilla and cinnamon for a dessert option. I usually made two from the cheese/egg and then added a bit of sweetener, etc to make dessert out of the 3rd one.

I'm with Connie, I loved eating the chaffles. If Wade can't find my chaffle maker (Dash tiny waffle maker) I might have to buy me a new one! You can also use different flours than wheat flour. I like coconut flour best. Then there is rye flour and almond flour and brown rice or buckwheat flours as well. You can make flour out of oats by just blending them to death. I also found a wheat free bread at Wal-mart in the gluten free section, but these breads are expensive and really don't taste as good as other breads. I have three of the symptoms of Celiac Disease, although I don't believe I have that, it would have shown up before now if I had that - but I have something similar and I think it is from eating wheat and possibly dairy. I had a couple of the symptoms before, but then a new one showed up and that lead me to Celiacs. So, I am going to work on getting as much wheat out of my diet as I can, but I know there will be times when I am going to eat it (like today when we decided to get something to eat after Mom saw the doctor and one of Wade's favorite places to eat (a little car hop type place) has a shrimp burger. I was ready to order a hamburger patty, but he said I needed to do better than that and get that shrimp burger - which was very good. I get the shrimp burger without the bun from the place near us and it's awesome - they put the shrimp and coleslaw in a bowl for me - yum. So, I will watch what I eat for awhile and try to avoid the wheat. I do have something called Joseph's Lavash bread which probably has whole wheat in it, I didn't even read the ingredients, but it's an approved THM item and I do love a PB and J now and again, so I will just have that when I need a sandwich! Dinner tonight will be a smoothie!

It is cooler out today and raining - the weather report says we are going to get a lot of rain this weekend - makes me wonder way we didn't get an during June and July when all the wildfires we causing so much damage around us - but God is in control and knows what He is doing

Flour -thanks for all the suggestions. The program I am following (on the advise of my doctor) is called Bright Line Eating - it is written by Susan Peirce Thompson and is a very good read even if you don't follow the plan. She has a degree getting her PhD in Brain and Cognitive Sciences. She specialized in how food affects the body. Through her studies she found that sugar and flour are the things that make us crave - and food addicts just have a hard time eating in moderation. At any rate if interested in reading the science behind what sugar and flour do to the brain give the book a read. Thousand upon thousands are now following the outline and many have lost all the weight and are keeping it off as they have learned what is causing the food addiction and not avoid it.

In essence when I am on track with 'my program' I don't have any sugar at all and absolutely no flour of any find. Please don't interpret this as eliminating a food group as it isn't - I just shop the outside isles of the grocery store where all the good food is - meats / fresh vegetables / fresh fruits / dairy products / and grains such as potatoes. For 'bread' should I really want one there is one called Ezekiel which has no flour in it at all - but truthfully when I have a slice it triggers me to eat more as it tastes like bread, reminds me of bread and all the 'toppings' I would put on it and makes me want to snack - so I avoid it. I just get more creative and use lettuce a lot for wraps when wanting say a tuna sandwich.

I have the cookbook that comes with the program and it has many interesting recipes - lot of the food truthfully I just dont like such as I am not a big fish eater and there are a few recipes with shrimp and lobster ect.

There is one recipe though that I did try and it was not bad but I would modify it a bit. I will share it here now

    Banana Rice Bake
    recipe serves 1
Each serving provides: 0 vegetables / 6 oz of fruit / 1 serving of protein / 0 serving of fat / 1 serving of grain

    6 oz mashed banana
    1 egg
    4 ounces cooked rice
4 ounces of milk of your choice
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    oil spray

Preheat the oven to 350 F

Place all the ingredients in a bowl and mix to combine

Spray an 8x8 inch baking dish with oil. Pour the mixture into the dish

    Bake for 20 minutes

Men's option: use 2 eggs per serving

My notes when I made this
    (1) I would bake it a bit longer
    (2) I would use vanilla and nutmeg
    (3) I would use 2 eggs instead of milk
    (4) next time I would try it with: 3 oz banana and 3 oz pumpkin spice plus extra cinnamon

At any rate I am not 100% on the plan right now but I am doing the following
    (1) 3 meals a day
    (2) no snacks at all all food to be eaten at meals / this is to help the brain heal from cravings
    (3) all food would be measured using a digital scale
    (4) no sugar / no flour

So I am doing the 1st 3 and with #4 I am not having sugar but have taken back flour but am working at getting that out of my life just because I feel so much better not having it.

Anyway this message has gone on long enough - praying for all of you and sending you good thoughts and with the help from our Lord and Savior we will eat healthy foods only today.

Well, not an especially successful day today. It is still 88 degrees and I am not seeing a walk in today's realm. Also, I was trying to figure out something different for dinner and decided to make chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes. I knew I was going to blow my carbs, but it did taste wonderful! It could have been better, but I did used dried noodles and made without salt.

    Calories - 1167

Again, I may have overestimated my evening snack (like the last couple days), but I would rather track and not use, than still be hungry.

I had a chicken burger at home last night...hate the buns! I have yet to find a bun that does not crumble to dust and allow all the fillings to fall all over me. I think I'll take a page from Marilyn's book and have my burgers like a "salad". It's the innards I want anyway! I did that at the hospital during a stay and it was great! I did the cod often as well as it was delicious!

Today, I packed my little snack bags of veggies for my cucumber salad and to refresh my Bento Box I have in there. Love those lunches. I'll have a boiled egg and the last of that reduced sodium ham. (never reduced enough!) I have my ice and lemonade mixes and a small Gala apple in there too. I brought some of my popcorn bags for "movie time". I watched The Hiding Place a couple of days ago. An excellent movie.

Marilyn, that recipe sounds a lot like rice pudding, except you are using the banana as the sweetener rather than sugar. Sounds interesting - and a dose of potassium as well.

We've been busy doing and having celebrations here and it's been hard to stay on track. I'll start again on Monday doing a 900-1100 calorie a day plan. I rarely have sugar (well, not lately, but generally, when I am on plan the only sugar I eat is palm sugar or unprocessed sugar. Back on track on Monday. There's a graduation party tonight, a young man in our Church is graduating from home-schooling. Not sure we'll be able to go, it might just be Wade. I'm not feeling well (bad headache this morning) and not sure Mom can do the steps into their house. She does our three with difficulty and they have five or six; so she'd need a couple of the men to help her in and out and I'm not sure if she would want that kind of attention.

Have some dishes to do today but otherwise will probably take it easy, just super tired again even though I had six to seven hours of sleep last night. Getting up around five to use the restroom doesn't help!

Am having a relaxing weekend. One load of clothes to wash. And the screen door to the front door needs to be washed down so both of those will be done for today - the chore we picked to make sure gets done for the day.

Yesterday hubby agreed that the chore to work on would be the china cabinet. When we moved here we painted it as it was a horrid brown - took the doors off the top so that the 6 shelves show. On these shelves I have a large collection of ceramic pics - think I might have shared this before. Anyway 4 of the shelves are glass then the bottom two are wood. So out came all the little piggys, all got washed down and the shelves all washed, then put it all back together. The top of the cabinet we have 10 large pigs sitting on it - took them down to wash them off, put up fresh parchment paper to help with keeping that shelve clean and then returned the 10 pigs - glad it is done as it took some time to do as there are well over 100 close to 200 as a lot of the pigs are rather small. This coming week I need to wash down the rest of them (about14 I think and are all rather large) - people always comment on them as they are my 'ornaments' all around the room - no I am not a hoarder but do have a large collection of them. Started 36 years ago and just grew - one day I will take a few pictures of them all over the living room and post them here. Many of them have been given to me from people from all over - it is really amazing how you can find different pigs rather than all looking the same.

We had our kickoff weekend at Church last week and they are going to extend it to this weekend also. We are getting involved in a few things (1) life group (2) course called Rooted which goes for 10 weeks and just helps to get everyone to understand that when we say we love Christ and are walking with Him what that means and gives ideas of what we could and should be doing (3) Prime Timers which is for 55+ and meets once a month for 2 hours for encouragement and just some fun things. Hubby is also looking at talking with the Worship Pastor as he has a beautiful singing voice and plays the guiater very well so he is going to see about joining that team. We are so thankful to our Lord for directing us to this Church after being in the other one for 16 years - still dealing with the grief of having to leave that Church due to the leadership but the Church we are going to is being so kind and understanding and helping us walk through the grief and remembering to turn to the Lord.

Food wise am doing better - understanding how my body reacts to food and what is causing the cravings is a major thing - so am taking it one day at a time - it can be done for any of us that have a large amount to lose - we just need to lean more on our Lord for strength / wisdom and be willing to make the changes that are necessary. For me being a food addict and coming to understand that there are foods that I just need to stay away from completely like the person addicted to acholic drinks can't have just one they need to abstain completely - I truly believe that this is so with many of us that are dealing with food issues - but I know that there are a lot of people like me that really don't want to admit that they are addicted to food and just 'cannot give up' certain foods - but with the Lord's help if these foods are harming us and causing us to stay unhealthy and overweight we need to put more trust in the Lord and lean on Him to get the help to not have those foods around to tempt. There are so many healthy foods out there - we really don't need the pop, chips, chocolate bars, sweet deserts - what we need is food that is full of healthy nutrients that will aid our health - and our Lord will direct us to those foods.

Anyway what started out to be a 'short' message has gone on to be a long on - sorry about that

    The Lord bless you and keep you;
    the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. - Numbers 6:24-26

The calorie count is a bit low today, but in trying to bring it up, most everything had either too many carbs or sat. fats. That's okay. I am full, anyway.

Had breakfast: 2 eggs and a bit of cheese. Then had a sugar drop at 11:00...so had a bottle of orange juice and a small Gala apple. "Lunch" was a bag of Smart Popcorn, 7 Crunch Master's crackers and a slice of Pepper jack cheese. So did get the carbs in and am stable now. That's the first low in awhile and I'm glad to know I can still have them.

Activity wise: Did a round of laundry and the hike to the laundry room and back counts as a "walk"...plus the running about at the office. I've had 3 rentals and been out to take a lock off today. It's 96 today and supposed to hit 102 tomorrow so I'm glad to be inside. Tue-Thu in the high 80's.

Today wasn't an especially good day with diet. Sundays are left-over days. So the high carb things we had during the week was what was left-over for today. Tasted good the second day, anyway! I also didn't even think about taking a walk. I usually take Sunday as a rest day, and today it definitely was.

I rested well last night, went to bed really early (habit of late)...got up at 5:00 and shuffled around a bit before getting ready for work. I have plenty to keep me alert and busy today. I am ready for my off days tho.

I had a wee walk, back to my apartment to turn off my coffee pot. I debated whether there was enough coffee in it to avoid breakage. LOL I was glad to have it off, tho it was a struggle to make myself go tend to it.
