Today I didn't walk. Yesterday I kind of wrenched my knee and it hurt all day yesterday, then was sore when I got up this morning. It did quit hurting, but I was a little afraid to misuse it but walking very far. I also decided to cook up some hamburger that we had in the freezer. I hate to just let it go to waste and since it had been quite a while since Bill had beef, I decided on burgers and potato soup. Wow - these were 85% angus burgers and the sat. fats were out of control!

    Calories 1177
    Carbs 93
Sat Fats 23 - Whew, but 9 of them were that burger! That was impossible to work around.
Cholesterol 170 - 100 of that was that burger. I think it is a good thing that we are trying to clean out the freezer.

I have been so tired I haven't had the energy to get what needs to be done let alone walk as well. I hope this passes soon because it's wearing me out! LOL! I'm going to send a note to my functional med NP and see if she has any suggestions.

Connie, have you tried bison instead of beef. Quite a bit more expensive, but if you only have it once in a while it is better than beef - more protein, less fat. I get it once every few months but would love to have it all the time, it's really good. I hope that your knee is doing better today. I have a brace for each knee when mine decide to give out - I actually have an ankle brace, two knee braces, a hip brace and a back brace and a shoulder brace - sigh! I used to have finger braces as well, but since I don't play volleyball any more I didn't need those! LOL!

Eating on track yesterday as well as today. I had a yummy spinach salad for dinner last night with some of the chicken tenders I made coated in coconut flour and parmesan cheese. The chicken was good, but the coating was a bit dry even though I used an egg to coat it before the dry stuff. I need to figure out a better way to make those. Dinner will probably be a smoothie tonight.

Kim - Bill can't have red meat on a regular basis and Bison is actually "redder" than beef. I wouldn't have fixed the angus burger if it hadn't been in the freezer and wanted to cook some burgers for my BIL's freezer. Right now, we are eating a LOT of turkey burger. It works fairly well. I am trying to find new recipes without beef or pork that the fellows will enjoy. The reason for my really bad fall off the diet wagon on Monday was Bill's desire for KFC...and fries....and macaroni and cheese, and my desire for cookies!

Today's numbers are a lot better, but I didn't get my walk. It was in the 40's this morning and then I was having to wait on utility companies to mark lines for new fencing. They still aren't here, so I'm afraid to leave now that it is beautiful!

My bed time glucose check was 97....nice surprise. AM is 164 so I should have taken more of the Levemir I suppose. I had 2 meals and nine naps yesterday....it seemed like 9 anyway.

I made a run (against my will) to Wal-Mart for my Novolog and I got one box, 30 day supply instead of my 90. No arguing worked this time. The last time this happened, after checking the scrip, they corrected it. I emailed my Dr. I don't see him again until January.

Hiking in WM was hard on me. I should have used my cane. I got trash out when I got home so got 4 wee walks in. Prayers for us all in the days ahead. I feel you, Kim, on the fatigue as I'm in it as well.

It's back to work today for me.

My calories were on point yesterday but sodium/carbs were over. I really enjoyed my meals. Will do them again, minus the Michelina's chicken stir fry with 1100 mg sodium. I used the last one for dinner with some stir fried cabbage that was so good and a half cup of peas.

I brought lunch for today and my ice for my PM drinks. I did my tracking plans for the day and it looks good. Just a bit over on fat and sodium. I have an order for HEB to pick up after work. I cancelled my Wal-Mart order yesterday tho I had to go for my meds. I just wasn't up to dragging stuff around...other than myself and that was iffy.

I do feel better right now and am so thankful. I am seriously considering retirement the end of this year...but will reevaluate as time goes on.

Am having to change my eating some since talking to my FMNP. Less protein drinks, more real protein. No wheat or dairy and hopefully the problems will right themselves.

Connie, I didn't realize that bison is redder than beef! It's better in other ways, I thought it would be better in every way! LOL!

Well, it's lunch time, so I am going to have some tuna fish and veggie straws. Yum.

Glad you got some input from your FMNP.
I have some Hamburger meat that I've been pinching off of this week. I have about 3-4 ounces left. I don't do red meat often but enjoy it when I do. I have some minced chicken thighs and will use some of that in my next stir fry round. Tonight, I have a baked Salmon filet, apple walnut salad bowl and my cucumber salad planned. I haven't had the salmon in the air fryer yet but plan to tonight. I have popcorn and my diet coke as a snack.

Activity: not much today except staying upright, doing my work duties and hope to clean the kitchen tonight when I get home....as I prep dinner, I can unload/reload the dish washer.

I ate on plan yesterday and got my walk in. The weather was so beautiful that being outside was wonderful.

Today they should come and start on our fence. I am sitting here waiting for Home Depot to call me so that I can pay for the materials. I think these guys will be pretty good, they did the fencing for two of our neighbors this summer, so they came highly recommended.

I'm trying to plan dinner, but I have 2# of turkey burger in the fridge that I haven't parceled and frozen yet. I think it is calling for a meatloaf. That would make two meals...one meat loaf and one meat loaf sandwiches. Good for Sunday lunches.

Well things have somewhat settled down with my household - still some issues that are long term that we need to deal with but need to take those a week at a time.

Am back on track with my weight loss goal. I rejoined TOPS (taking off pounds sensibily) on September 7. Nice to see the ladies again - they haven't changed - havent seen them since the pandemic started but have been in contact with 2 of them. This past Tuesday (Sept 21) we were given a challenge - in the next 12 weeks (Sept 21 - Dec 20) to set a realistic goal on the basis that the healthy weight loss is between 1 - 2 pounds a week (so a person could lose between 12 - 24 pounds in 12 weeks) Most of the ladies - all but 3 of us - said 12 pounds was not realistic so they set a goal of 6 pounds and 3 of us set a goal of 12 pounds. Truthfully I would prefer to lose 24 pounds but I see that being realistic 12 pounds is the better goal. But I have in the past lost 17 pounds in 4 weeks when sticking to my food plan (remember I have over 100+ to lose). I weighed myself today and am down 2 since the challenge started now to keep that off plus a little more before this coming Tuesday. I know when I am eating according to the plan I follow that the 1st month I can lose around 10 - 12 pounds and then it averages out to 5 - 6 pounds every month until I get close to goal weight. So there is a chance that I will hit 24 but 12 will make me happy.

When I logged my food for today the weight it gave me if I ate like this for the next 5 weeks would have be lower then my goal for Dec 21 -sooooo guess what I am going to be doing - eating like I am today.

We have relooked at our budget now that it is the fall - and one area that we have changed up is the groceries budget. Absolutely no junk food (pop, chips, cookies, candy, any snacky food) will be brought into the house - only one that can afford to eat that way is my hubby so he has said should he want that type of food from now till Christmas he will get it from the store and eat it there. But with the budget we have worked up there will be no money that can be put toward that type of food as we all know the healthy food does cost more and only the healthy food is being brought into the house. I am so pumped for this challenge as I really need to see some success before the end of the year.

That's is for now- stay safe and healthy

Marilyn - Sounds like your goals are specific and attainable. If I got rid of all of the unhealthy stuff in our house, there really wouldn't be much...cookies now and again, but I have a bag of Oreos that we have had for two weeks and still hasn't been opened. Bill has really good restraint - I don't. The most "unhealthy" things that we keep and eat are pretzels for me and low sodium chips for Bill. I am really learning an entirely new way of cooking.

Got my walk today. Beautiful day for a walk, except I couldn't see through my hair for half of it.

I think this was the best turkey meatloaf that I have made. Bill had 3 pieces. And there is enough left over for meatloaf sandwiches on Sunday afternoon! WooHoo!

My right foot took a hike last night. Am thankful it seems to be a less severe "outage"...and feels fine in my shoe. I did mangle them a bit last night, clipping nails etc. and they weren't happy.

I semi-sorted my fridge this morning so I can see what I have. Did up a container of cucumber salad, a Bento Box with baby carrots and broccoli w/Ranch for lunch with my tin of Mackerel I haven't had in awhile. I brought tea bags (have one steeping) and my ice. I plan a stir fry tonight with some chicken (I need to cook it and the rest of that HB meat) and a lot of veggies. I use the Coleslaw mix for the cabbage I love. Wal-Mart's is rather chunky and I like that better than the Angle Hair cut.

I have lots to do to stay busy today so will get at it shortly. I used the Voltaran? on my shoulder this morning after hunting it down. I need to cover much more area.... I'll go see Bob and Brad later.

How wonderful, Marilyn. So glad that you are psyched to reach that goal and you have your TOPS ladies to help you. My Nana went to TOPS years and years ago. She passed back in the 90's when she was in her late 80's. I think she did TOPS more for the "fellowship" than she did to lose weight! I hope you reach your goal.

On track with my eating the past couple of days. Last night I did have some Little Debbie Oatmeal Cakes cereal (dry). It was a very small bowl, but it was yummy - no wheat or dairy in it! Yippee!

Have had three migraines in the last two days so am super sleepy. Will try to do what I can today.

Praying that you are all having a great weekend - remember to include Christ first and the rest of the day will go even better. Our Pastor was just talking about that - he asked 'As a believer when you get up and finally sit down what is the 1st thing you do? - He suggested that most of us turn on the news. He asked how many would consider 1st thing in the morning to take out the Bible and read from it and/or turn on a sermon from your pastor or from a pastor that you trust is teaching the Word correctly. It made Norm and I look at each other as we started listening to a sermon from the archives from our Church some time ago - we have gone through all of the sermons in 2018 and we are now in Oct 2019 sermons that our Pastor has done. Prior to this Church while having breakfast we listened to John McArthur sermons which are also good but his do go for 1 hour where our Pastors go for 45 minutes - not much difference but truly it has blessed us a lot starting our day hearing the word of good preached / taught each morning and then going into our daily devotional - when we don't follow this way of starting our day we just seem to run into problems.

With our church we have life groups (some churches call them care groups) From middle of September till end of May they post on the website weekly devotional from the current sermon - we have just started using those as part of our devotional as our life group will start on October 4 when we do a program for 10 weeks with the group. Love going deep into the Scripture to gleam out just what it means and how we can apply it today right where we life.

Am on track with my eating - slow going but taking it one day at a time. My food plan, as I have probably mentioned before is Bright Line Eating, but I am also now back to TOPS for the getting weighed and support - the ladies are doing a little better then they were 18 months ago but most of them have admitted that though they have lots of weight to lose that they are using it more for fellowship. I think that is good but I also think that if you are going to join a support group such as TOPS you should be showing some form of progress otherwise it is bad advertisement for a great non profit support organization. I find it difficult at time when I see people that are really overweight - such as myself at over 100+ pounds to lose - that are in leadership and when asked how long they have been with the organization they say something along the line of 15 years / 25 years and they admit they might have lost 5 pounds in all that time. Funny our weight recorder (lover her to bits) is as big as me maybe a little more and she was limping on Tuesday. I asked her if she had a bad back and she said no that both her knees had to be repaired. I asked her when she was going to be able to get them done as she is in really a lot of pain and her answer was 'The doctor told me that because I am 100+ pounds overweight that I need to lose at least 50 pounds if not the 100 before they would consider it as to repair them with all that weight just would not work. She smiled and look at me and said 'Yeah, like I am going to lose all that weight' - pretty discouraging that she is so encouraging to us but does not apply it to herself. I pray for her constantly.

Scripture verse I want to share for today is this

So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets - Matthew 7:12

One more which is the one that is my motto

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you. = Matthew 6:33

Did well in my goals today, but just was not motivated for my walk. It was a perfect day to walk, just didn't interest me. There is always another day. We all need a day off now and again.

My husband used the voltaren before it was available OTC. When we talked to the doctor about it not long ago, he told us that the diclofenac gel that he had used before (and was over $100 after insurance) was Voltaren now and available. We still have about a half tube on the other, but I am glad to find it OTC and so much less expensive.

Wow! That gives me hope, Connie. The shoulder pain has me near tears at least twice a day it seems. Glad it's OTC too! Yikes. That's high dollar stuff!

I got a lot of work done yesterday, had some sun and air time, going down to open a gate for a guy who had a 26 foot U-Haul down there. It was a beautiful day!

This morning, I am doing round 2 of laundry and perhaps I can do round 3 on Wednesday and be caught up for the first time in almost 2 years. Round 3 is all sheets and mats. I forget what goal I set for this task. I'd have to go back to see if I make it!

Next Tuesday, I see my PCP, then starts the rounds....

PS: I forgot to mention...my FBS was 150 this morning! I am praising God! I KNOW I can do so much better than I have been and really need to buckle down and get things done. BP is still running high and has been for awhile. I think the stress of this shoulder pain must have an effect?

I was a little higher than my norm in calories, but still a little under 1200. Good on other nutrition goals. Sunday is leftover day, so everything doesn't always work out perfectly in all nutrients.

Well just wrote a message here and guess I pressed the wrong key as it is gone - so guess I was not to post it

At any rate am doing well. Great service yesterday at Church - am so glad that we made the decision to leave the church that we were going to though it was a difficult decision but we have gotten into a great church - people showing lots of love to us, making us feel so welcome and that we are loved. September is the month where the different programs - life groups, different courses to help us grow in the Lord, Prime Time which is for 55+ is back and starting on Fridays which we are really looking forward to getting involved in. We are having the lead Pastor come over on Thursday for a visit to get to know him a bit more and to ask a few more questions to make sure we are in a place (church) that is not going down the same road as the church we just left.

Anyway, it is coming up lunch time and I also need to get up and move some as I have been sitting now for 45 minutes and need to move get up and walk every 45 - 60 minutes in order to increase my mobility issues.

We've had some really nice weather and I need to get outside and do some walking in the fresh air!

Went to get Mom and Wade's second vaccinations today and had lunch at McDonald's. I did do nuggets and fries and had part of a Sprite. I think this is the second soft drink I've had this year! I dumped about half of it when we got home so I wouldn't be tempted to drink more.

Marilyn, make sure that you measure what John MacArthur preaches against what the Word actually says, not what he says it means, but what the words actually say (in context). I can understand what the woman in your TOPS group means though. Some of us just can't lose weight no matter what we do. I'm one of them. The only way I have lost weight in the past 10 years is to eat less than 1000 calories a day - then, as soon as I go up to a healthy amount of calories (for my weight and height) I gain it all back and more. I can lose 10 pounds (usually over months) and not change a thing gain it all back within a month - that's happened several times. I've been working on the same 100 pounds for 16 years! I've gone from 263 to 236 in all that time. I've been to a nutritionist and to a functional medicine nurse practitioner and done special diets, and my doctor and they all can't understand why I can't lose the weight. It took me a year, when I was in my forties, to lose 20 pounds. That was doing a special diet and working out at the Y five days a week. My body just doesn't want to let it go! I also have lymphedema and lipedema and both add fluids and fat to my body. I can move the lymphedema out to an extent, but the fat is there unless I do liposuction, no diet or exercise can get rid of it. It's now in my legs, arms, chest, tummy, and upper back. I can tell where it is because those places are painful to the touch. So, maybe she is just one of those people whose body won't let go, or she may have a disease that she knows nothing about (I was in my 50's before my doctor said, "Hey, I think you have Milroy's Disease (the genetic form of lymphedema)." I found the lipedema and then had it seconded by a therapist who works with people who have both. Doctors don't acknowledge lipedema because it isn't recognized by the AMA, so my doctor had diagnosed me with fibromyalgia for the pain it caused. Anyway, that's my saga and it may be hers as well. I can encourage others while I struggle with my own because I know that it is doable for most people.

Still tired, not sure if that will ever change, but cutting out the wheat and dairy has helped a little bit with the stomach problem - it just may take some more time.

Today was not a good day, either. I thought I was doing well, but I forgot how much Sat Fat is in ground turkey and I had a small amount of leftover taco meat for lunch (2 oz) and a large burger for dinner. I still wound up high. I didn't think about that SF pudding that I had, either. My carbs are a bit high, too. Just not a great day.

I remember walking on purpose, many years back, but it's a very rare occurrence now. Hence the "wee walks" that I count. Yesterday, it was checking mail and getting the trash out...and trotting around in here for coffee and doing light chores.

I'll spend some time today considering the errors of the past months and see about getting a U-Turn done. Maybe visit the Boyz for some therapy tips.
I need to catch up my charts and work on my budget for October, pay my rent online and get busy...taking care of Bren and her business.

I did do an outside walk a day or two ago and had quite a bit of trouble catching my breath - not sure why it shows up outside more than inside, but I do better inside, so will work on doing more of that.

    Weight is slowly going down.

Got my mile walk in today....no excuses. Hmm, I wonder how many calories I burned pushing Bill through WalMart to the pharmacy. He thought he could walk it, but he just got in the door and asked me to get the wheelchair. Usually they would have one available, but one of the electric carts was out of order, the others were in use.

Bren - Before I retired, I walked between 7 and 9 miles a day at work. I didn't do a lot of purposely walking then. I got home and crashed, the last thing I wanted to do was more walking. Now, I enjoy it if the weather is nice. I hate using the treadmill, though. I get too bored when I walk on it.

Back in the day....I'd do 3 miles before work at the HS track. Once Meniere's hit the left side in 2000, I was down and out. Had 2 years of violent dizziness and drop attacks, came very close to losing my job. After things settled down, I was still unstable and didn't trust myself much. Then the foot thing happened and I went south after that. I applaud anyone who pushes and attains those personal goals.

Today is a new month, new start and I hope to boost myself up and out of the ditch and finish well. Had a 3 hour insomnia bout last night but other than being achy...am good to go for this new day.
    Starting stats:
    230
    136/86
    164
Praising God for the gift of this new day. I'll drum up a simple goals list for October....and see what I can get done.
