Upping your steps can definitely help. I know @DaffyGirl88 made some correlation between types of calories and success on the scales in her own personal journey. I think it was keeping her carbs under 100 grams. Just doing that, and not changing total calories, she found made a difference. Sue, if you could corroborate what I just said (hate to be spreading untruths) that would be great!
